Wonderful inn outside city but walkable with trails and park’s nearby. Restaurant on site with bar was great and staff were amazing! If you want that rustic countryside experience this is wonderful! No frills, but cozy, clean and comfortable beds. No A/C but provided fans which adds to the no frills country experience. Thank you to the wonderful staff for their hospitality!

Stayed here several times lovely hotel set back on a quiet road. Short walk to train station to get to newcastle. Easy walk to town centre. Lots of bars and places to eat around. Room clean and everything we needed for a 2 night stay comfy beds and good breakfast although it finished a bit early for a weekend. Car parking free . Will be back.

The hotel / bar staff were very helpful and friendly. Really good selection of food cooked to order. Plenty of onsite parking. Most importantly for us the hotel is extremely dog friendly. The walk into Durham city centre is approximately 10 minutes. We would stay here again and recommend.

Kingslodge Inn is a lovely English country inn conveniently located near Durham train station and bus station. The room is spacious and comfortable, and the bar & restaurant offer great good in a cozy environment. Just note that there isn't an elevator; I had to carry my big suitcase one floor up.

The Kingslodge Inn was chosen as it was close to the town centre, had good car parking and well reviewed food! We did choose to venture into town one of the days, and it was about a 10 minute walk away, just the right distance to be 'close enough' without actually stopping in the town. Second 'must' was a decent car park, the Kingslodge has a great little car park, feels nice and secure and just tucked away enough so you feel safe leaving your vehicle parked there. Last on the list was food, we had breakfast both mornings, with a continental buffet followed by a cooked to order hot choice - all were superb! We also enjoyed evening meals on both nights, these were also of excellent quality, all served by excellent attentive staff. My only criticism, is that maybe the rooms couls do with a spruce up, mine was a little tired around the edges, but the bed was comfy, nice bedding and a TV/coffee making facilities. A nice touch was the offer to trade your first days cleaning for a free drink, helps using so much cleaning products and was more than happy to get a free drink instead - great initiative. Would happily stop here again, and recommend to others!

The Kingslodge Inn is in a great location, close to the train and bus station and the city center. With a full service restaurant and bar, and breakfast being included, it was great. The food was very good and the service all round was great! I would highly recommend staying here.

This is a great property for a short stay. Full beakfast was included. All staff were fantastic. No elevator so be prepared if you have lots of luggage. Rooms are small but comfortable and clean. Walkable to city center

Situated in a quiet cul-de-sac a short walk to the city centre. Rooms were clean but the decoration was a bit dull and the bathroom was starting to look a little tired. One of the very few places that provide free parking. Breakfast was excellent and we would have no hesitation in staying again

Nice Inn, about 10 minute walk into town. We don’t have a dog but there are woods at the rear of the hotel for walking your dog. Comfy room but bathroom had a bit of a drain smell, not sure why. Another guest said the same, so sounds like the drains need looking at. I asked for a quiet room but we were above the entrance so it was a little noisy but not too bad. Staff were very friendly and helpful, especially Annalise for whom nothing was too much trouble.

Really perfect for our trip to Durham. Within walking distance of the university. Very clean and comfortable. We got a warm welcome from all the staff, and the dining room was a good place to get work done--even had charging at the booth.

Was very very impressed with the cleanliness of the whole establishment considering it is a dog friendly hotel. There was nothing we could fault with our entire stay. Would definitely recommend and hopefully return for another visit soon. Very handy for seeing all the sights and super close to both train and bus stations.

Stayed here for 2 nights. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Upon arrival the housekeeper helped my mum upstairs with her bag. The rooms were extremely clean, so special mention to Fiona for this. The hotel is handily situated for the town centre and train station. We ate in the bar both nights and the food was good.

I stayed two nights at the King’s Lodge. Excellent staff and dining options. My bathroom was very clean, well appointed and it had great water pressure. 👍 It’s just a stone’s throw away from Durham High Street and some magnificent views. My biggest take on the Kings Lodge was how polite and friendly the staff were. Makes a good stay.

Very pretty pub with nice rooms above. In a great quiet location. The rooms were quaint but with modern amenties and well maintained. Breakfast was great as was dinner in the pub. The staff were very friendly.

Don't take Amex. Bed - mattress was okay but not the most comfortable. No sweeteners with tea/coffee, only sugar (I'm diabetic). Poor water pressure in shower. Good lighting options in room, nicely decorated and very clean. Nice option to forgo cleaning/towel change in exchange for a drink in the bar. Above average food, friendly staff but food was excruciatingly slow to be served. Overall, a good 3* hotel close to the railway station and road links, and within walking distance of the Cathedral and city centre. Would use again, if/when return to Durham.

The rooms were adequate (although the bed was uncomfortable due to our double being two singles pushed together and so the middle was a hard edge of mattress bump). The staff were generally quite inattentive (waited 15 minutes at the bar for one member of staff to walk past twice and ignore me). The breakfast was very average. My toast with scrambled eggs was burnt, the continental was okay, although no pastries. We wouldn't return unfortunately.

Saw Ella Henderson at the cathedral so only 24hrs in Durham but lived it. Comfortable twin room, super clean, was a hot night but fan provided. Helpful staff on hand with advice . Great breakfast, would definitely recommend and return.

The bed in the hotel room was shockingly small and thin walls meant that I heard my neighbours until the early hours of the morning. I don't quite understand how they can charge the rates they do.

Overall, a most enjoyable stay, the only let down being the management, who seemed disinterested, and lacked basic understanding of courtesy. I wondered at times, had they received any training in hospitality? As a contrast, the Housekeeper, Fiona, is delightful and a gem - very friendly, extremely helpful. I'll explain my gripe about the management! On the first evening of my stay, I chose to eat in the restaurant. Not having had dinner in the Kingslodge previously, I had expected to be briefed on the protocol for ordering food - but that didn't happen, and I sat at my table being ignored for at least 20 mins before I went to the bar to ask if someone could take my order. The manager then told me bluntly, without apology, that "It's order at the bar - it's printed on the menu." And so it was - but I had just seen a couple having a food order taken at the table, and I certainly didn't appreciate being talked to in that way. The following morning, I arrived at breakfast to find the water heater for tea was empty, and the coffee jugs down to the dregs. Pointing this out to the chap behind the bar (another manager, it transpired), he disappeared for a minute and returned - with a teapot full of hot water! There was no "sorry sir, let me top it up", or "what would you like to drink, sir". These may seem minor points, but it is reasonable to expect attentive management in any hotel or inn, and to be treated politely and with some effort at customer service.
Overall, a most enjoyable stay, the only let down being the management, who seemed disinterested, and lacked basic understanding of courtesy. I wondered at times, had they received any training in hospitality? As a contrast, the Housekeeper, Fiona, is delightful and a gem - very friendly, extremely helpful. I'll explain my gripe about the management! On the first evening of my stay, I chose to eat in the restaurant. Not having had dinner in the Kingslodge previously, I had expected to be briefed on the protocol for ordering food - but that didn't happen, and I sat at my table being ignored for at least 20 mins before I went to the bar to ask if someone could take my order. The manager then told me bluntly, without apology, that "It's order at the bar - it's printed on the menu." And so it was - but I had just seen a couple having a food order taken at the table, and I certainly didn't appreciate being talked to in that way. Stayed here for 2 nights. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Upon arrival the housekeeper helped my mum upstairs with her bag. The rooms were extremely clean, so special mention to Fiona for this. The hotel is handily situated for the town centre and train station. We ate in the bar both nights and the food was good.

Very average place to stay, unfortunately. The rooms were adequate (although the bed was uncomfortable due to our double being two singles pushed together and so the middle was a hard edge of mattress bump). The staff were generally quite inattentive (waited 15 minutes at the bar for one member of staff to walk past twice and ignore me). The breakfast was very average. My toast with scrambled eggs was burnt, the continental was okay, although no pastries. We wouldn't return unfortunately.

I loved my stay at Kingslodge. The staff were all friendly, the restaurant was cozy with delicious food, the setting had charm and comfort. In addition to all that, the room with full breakfast was very affordable.

Shabby decor to actually torn/broken seats. Breakfast service was atrocious, food running out mid service time and cooked food still hadn’t arrived after 45 mins so had to leave without it ( had paid inclusive rate)

Stayed here several times lovely hotel set back on a quiet road. Short walk to train station to get to newcastle. Easy walk to town centre. Lots of bars and places to eat around. Room clean and everything we needed for a 2 night stay comfy beds and good breakfast although it finished a bit early for a weekend. Car parking free . Will be back.

The hotel / bar staff were very helpful and friendly. Really good selection of food cooked to order. Plenty of onsite parking. Most importantly for us the hotel is extremely dog friendly. The walk into Durham city centre is approximately 10 minutes. We would stay here again and recommend.

Kingslodge Inn is a lovely English country inn conveniently located near Durham train station and bus station. The room is spacious and comfortable, and the bar & restaurant offer great good in a cozy environment. Just note that there isn't an elevator; I had to carry my big suitcase one floor up.

The Kingslodge Inn is in a great location, close to the train and bus station and the city center. With a full service restaurant and bar, and breakfast being included, it was great. The food was very good and the service all round was great! I would highly recommend staying here.

Very short walk to station, centre of town, cathedral and central colleges. Very good food and drinks. We stayed for our son's graduation. The organization of the graduation was not user friendly but the location of the Kingslodge Inn simplified things.

Don't stay here if you like TV in the bar, fruit machines, etc. Stay here if you like free car parking, pleasant surroundings, peace and quiet, good food, friendly, helpful staff and a clean, comfortable, en-suite room that comes with a good breakfast, a pleasant stroll from the centre of the city of Durham. It's like pubs used to be years ago, but without the darts and dominoes! Thoroughly recommended!

Don't take Amex. Bed - mattress was okay but not the most comfortable. No sweeteners with tea/coffee, only sugar (I'm diabetic). Poor water pressure in shower. Good lighting options in room, nicely decorated and very clean. Nice option to forgo cleaning/towel change in exchange for a drink in the bar. Above average food, friendly staff but food was excruciatingly slow to be served. Overall, a good 3* hotel close to the railway station and road links, and within walking distance of the Cathedral and city centre. Would use again, if/when return to Durham.

A lovely friendly place to stay. Staff were excellent. Only a short walk from the city centre meaning we could park our car for free and leave it for the length of our stay. Evening meal was tasty and cheese and onion pie was plentiful. We didn't have a cooked breakfast but what we had was good .

Would recommend .Great location in the city , short walk from the railway station. The rooms are comfortable and clean . The staff are friendly and helpful. There is free parking and WiFi which works well. Despite being in the city there is woodland path behind the hotel. I liked that the hotel is dog friendly. Being a popular pub there is some noise in the evening but not excessive and I found the breakfast a little disappointing.

Good free breakfast for all guests although we were charged extra by Expedia which was annoying. Dated decor in the rooms but clean bathroom. Our room was very cold and the heating only worked intermittently (we turned the radiator to full but it came on for about an hour one night and roasted us on the final night, two other nights had no heating at all). Parking was ok but we got the last available space on a couple of days after going out… I think you can park in the approach road for free until 8am but don’t quote me on that.

The only minor criticism I have is that breakfast wasn't served until 7.30am which I think is quite late. Also you have to order breakfast from the bar rather than table service. Otherwise, nice hotel and I would definitely stay there again.
