Stayed here a few times very good, hair dryer fused the room but it was fixed & replaced straight away The Hudson bar now closes between 10pm &10.30pm so can't have a night cap before going up to room, apparently it has different owners now

Wifi would not connect. Elevator out of service. Desk staff too busy to receive calls. But, restaurant & bar staff were very kind & helpful. Hotel Mngt needs to stay up on their maintenance.

Good hotel just over the road from the station. Reasonably priced. Great breakfast. Friendly staff. Minor observations: 30 mins in the queue to check-in (needs another desk). One of two lifts out of service (another queue…..). Rooms small and hot, but at least there is a fan provided. Would happily stay again.

Lovely period hotel with good decor and clean throughout; staff also friendly and helpful. Only minor gripes were noisy creaking floorboards in room above and inability to get on the Wi-Fi. Gave a low ecofriendly score as unable to reduce room temperature (other than opening a window) and shower gel and shampoo in individual disposable bottles. Great place to stay though :-)

The bar had no pumps for the entirety of the first day but we were not advised of this when checking in. The second day it was still being worked on but I think was fixed around midday. This spot our trip a little as we like to come back to the hotel in the evening after dinner and sit and relax with a drink, we were not able to do this. The breakfast staff on the first day weren’t very friendly. We were quite amazed when asking for a cappuccino at breakfast that this would be an additional charge! Breakfast was quite poor. Cooked food was ok but the pastries were very sad looking and not at all appetising as was the fruit. The selection was not what we are expected to receive from lots of other hotel stays this fell way below par. The location was good though and the hotel itself was clean and the reception staff were friendly and welcoming it’s just other parts of the hotel which let it down. I wouldn’t stay here again if we visited Newcastle again.

Unfortunately the bar was closed when I arrived (seemingly earlier than advertised) but the room was exceptionally clean and well-proportioned. Would happily stay here again especially considering the exceptional value.

The hotel was in a great location. Unfortunately we could not park in the hotel car park as it was quite small and was full. The hotel staff were friendly, the bar staff were unfortunately a bit unfriendly, but the delicious drink made up for it. The room was nice of a little compact in places. The room and bathroom were both very clean. The room was unfortunately very hot and we could not see a thermostat.

The dust bunnies in the room were over the top, it was insane how much dust was piled up on top of tall furniture and along the walls where the carpet meets. Had to ask for a portable heater as the radiator was not working. The mattresses should have been replaced a LONG time ago, every time my son shifted slightly another spring flew up and jabbed me in the ribs. The bathroom/shower was really nice but the ventilation not great, every thing was soaking wet in there after showering, even in luke-warm water. The food was ok, breakfast pretty good. All the employees we interacted with were very nice. Location is in the center of it ALL, central station right across the street, plenty of restaurants nearby along with museums/shops/groceries.

Lovely clean apartment was a little bit noisy outside on the evening due to the location. Lots of facilities inside the apartment, although the sofa and armchair in the living room were a bit tired looking and worn out. Could do with replacing, and the bath plug seal in the on suite needs replacing. Had a bath but water kept slowly draining away, and had to constantly top up. So not the relaxing experience that I was expecting. All in all it was a great location and I would stay there again.

The hotel overall is really nice and we chose it as a nicer option to what we usually choose. It was a nice sized room but very beige. However the bed was especially uncomfortable,so much so I woke with backache! It was particularly hard and just not good. The room also wasn't 100% clean. There were some marks on the side where the tea/coffee facilities were and there was a stain on the bed runner that looked like food. A bit dusty in places too. I did expect better for a 4* hotel. The shower was a bit poor too but the bathroom was nice and clean. I didn't use the restaurant so can't comment on that.

We stayed in an apartment which was in a totally separate building further up the street. The apartment itself was basic and quite dirty. Multiple stains on the floor and sofa and not much in the way of free products in the bathroom to use. If you wanted to purchase any drinks or snacks, they were a ridiculously high price. Will not be staying here again.

I chose this hotel for location to the train station and good price point for a one night stay after going to the theatre. I was very impressed with the cleanliness, it was immaculate. Comfortable bed, though we were facing a main busy street, the noise did not affect us. Polite, friendly staff and impressed that when we returned late at night, a member of staff checked we were staying before allowing us in. The room was compact, but perfect for our stay. A beautiful old building, well maintained.

We only stayed for one night. Didn't explore too much. Breakfast was ok. Room clean but as we were coming back from a longer trip, there was not much room for 2 larger suitcases. Big bathroom.

The hotel is perfectly located right opposite the station and looks lovely, The rooms and beds are comfortable however as it’s a very old building there is no air con in the bedrooms

This is a nice hotel in a very busy area. My only complaint is the lack of A/C, which causes you to leave your window open in a very bustling and noisy area of town.

Reception was very curt and unpleasant at check in. Room had so many warnings about water being too hot, keep bathroom door shut or steam will set off fire alarm, etc that it made showering a nightmare. Tub will fill in 60 sec and you will pay for flooding damages. I have long hair. Breakfast was buffet. Not a fan of buffets. Chose for location and parking. Tried to double charge us for food at checkout.

Booked for one night only. Checked in quite late in the evening, which wasn't a problem. Friendly reception staff. Comfortable room and no noise issues despite being on main road opposite train station. Only issue was that after going for early morning stroll my room key wouldn't work when I returned to hotel. there was a staff member in the corridor but they said they could not open room and I'd have to go to reception. Got lift from 5th floor down to reception and they recharged keys. However, after going back up to 5th floor it still didn't work! Had top go back down again, and was getting anxious as I had a train to catch and needed to check out. They couldn't find manager who had master key, but tried to recharge the key again and a member of staff went up with me and thankfully this time it worked. Staff tried to help and were polite, but it might be best practice to have a master key behind reception to avoid such an issue in th efuture

Staff were very helpful, especially Paul who helped me get a taxi, room was spotless & had everything you could need. Was a bit concerned when i saw my room was right opposite the railway station but it was really quiet & peaceful. Would definitely stay here again & recommend it

The hotel is great, rooms are nice and clean. Very comfortable and had a great nights sleep. Unfortunately we had to wait 25 mins to check in as the queue stretched the length of the foyer. This was caused largely because one group had made an error and booked a single room instead of a double and we’re arguing about it, tying up one of only 2 check in staff on one of the busiest days where the hotel was fully booked. We also had no hot water in the morning for showering. We waited 30 mins hoping but ended up having to have cold washes.

The hotel is great, rooms are nice and clean. Very comfortable and had a great nights sleep. Unfortunately we had to wait 25 mins to check in as the queue stretched the length of the foyer. This was caused largely because one group had made an error and booked a single room instead of a double and we’re arguing about it, tying up one of only 2 check in staff on one of the busiest days where the hotel was fully booked. We also had no hot water in the morning for showering. We waited 30 mins hoping but ended up having to have cold washes.

In line with a lot of other reviews, they took a £50 deposit on check-in and still not repaid this a week later. Very worrying.

Lovely up market hotel. The room was very big and spacious. Not much of a view though, but in all fairness we didn’t book a room with a view specifically. The hotel is ideally located a couple of hundred yards from the train station and close to pubs, restaurants etc.

The County Hotel is a beautiful hotel right across the street from the train station in Newcastle. The room was very nice, clean, large compared to many, the breakfast was excellent, and we especially appreciated the lift for someone who cannot climb stairs. I highly recommend.

Perfectly situated within the city. Train and metro right next door. Ability to walk easily for food, drinks, and site seeing. A plus was we were able to check-in a couple hours early after an all night flight.

We had enjoyable stay. Reception staff were very helpful and pleasant Our room was very comfortable and clean. The breakfast was ok but we did expect more choice given the 4 star rating of hotel. More cereals fresh fruit and choice of breads etc. In fact we have had much better breakfasts at Premier Inn. Excellent location in the city.

The stay was pretty poor. 5 of us all booked a room at this hotel to grab dinner or bar snacks and a few drinks before heading out to a retirement party. What the hotel didn’t pre warn us that was both their restaurant and bar were fully shut the day of our stay. We couldn’t order room service, or get a drink in the bar or even sit in the bar. No apology, just a “it’s not open you can’t go on” no discount on our stay despite us booking this hotel so we had a restaurant and bar facility. Breakfast was overpriced and awful, lukewarm food, dry bacon, cold mushrooms, hard eggs and you could hear all of the chef’s conversations clearly.

The bar had no pumps for the entirety of the first day but we were not advised of this when checking in. The second day it was still being worked on but I think was fixed around midday. This spot our trip a little as we like to come back to the hotel in the evening after dinner and sit and relax with a drink, we were not able to do this. The breakfast staff on the first day weren’t very friendly. We were quite amazed when asking for a cappuccino at breakfast that this would be an additional charge! Breakfast was quite poor. Cooked food was ok but the pastries were very sad looking and not at all appetising as was the fruit. The selection was not what we are expected to receive from lots of other hotel stays this fell way below par. The location was good though and the hotel itself was clean and the reception staff were friendly and welcoming it’s just other parts of the hotel which let it down. I wouldn’t stay here again if we visited Newcastle again.

Staff were absolutely fabulous, warm welcome and very helpful. The dining room and bar were in beautiful condition and the breakfast was lovely; bacon, sausage, eggs, black pudding, hash browns, beans tomatoes plus pastries, cereals yogurts and a fresh fruit salad. The beds were comfy and the shower was powerful. Some of the carpet on the room was a little tired as was some furniture. The mirror was high and the chair was low. The hairdryer is attached and with bit a long cors so can make drying your hair a little awkward but we managed. The issues were slight and wouldn't put us off stating there again. The location is opposite the train station so very handy. Again - staff were absolutely lovely.

We’ve stayed here a lot and each time the room has been spacious. However this time it was terrible. There was not enough room between the wardrobe and bed. We had to squeeze past it. But the worst was the breakfast. We paid £15 each. There was no bacon no sausage we had to ask for milk, the toast didn’t toast, tea was like water even though it had 2 tea bags in and I had stirred it. The coffee was like tar even though we asked for a weak coffee. When I waited for bacon the chef only cooked 4 rashers which went rather quickly so I gave up! Our friends had their breakfast round the corner at Wetherspoons and paid £13 for 2 small breakfast with unlimited coffee. I would stay again but I definitely will not be paying for the breakfast.

Dissappointed the Hudson bar didn’t serve drinks after 10-30 pm I would have expected 11pm. The breakfast was not worth the money I thought the continental selection was very poor and having to make your own hot drinks from hot water jugs was very poor. The cost of breakfast was one of the dearest in the area. The hotel was immaculate clean and the staff very friendly and professional.

Overall was a lovely stay we were pleasantly surprised how modern the rooms were and actually the photos don’t do them justice. The staff were also really friendly. Just a couple small points though, the hairdryer didn’t work and also they don’t make it completely clear that the snacks / drinks on the dressing table are not free. For anything that needs to be paid they should really just be stored in the mini fridge it was a bit misleading. For a 4 star hotel I think they could do better on toiletries aswell I’d recommend bringing your own shower gel and shampoo etc. the one bottle they provide is tiny. the bed was comfortable and the breakfast was lovely and the location is incredible.
