We only stayed for one night but we found our Smyth experience to be an all around good one. We didn't eat there but there is a lovely bar area with fireplaces that stays open late enough for an after show/plans drink. Staff was always nice and the room was large and well kept. It is also extremely close to the subway. Would definitely recommend if you need a place to stay in the area.

The Smyth was centrally located in Tribeca. It had a very cool vibe. The front desk was very friendly and helpful. The gym is great, one of the best I have seen for a small boutique hotel. I did not think the bed was as comfortable as other hotels.

Construction going on all around the hotel, also at the hotel which has (decorative) scaffolding up. Nice hotel, have stayed there before, not cheap but more reasonably priced than others in the area, like the Conrad.

A great hotel. Bellman Mario was an exceptional help. Cool design and love the smell of the place. Room was huge for NY standards and impeccably kept. We received champagne upon checking in. The bar lounge at night is a total vibe. The restaurant and food was the only thing that could use improvement, but hotel restaurants tend to be sub par and overpriced, so no surprises there. Would definitely stay again!

Loved this hotel. Their Queen room with Terrace is just perfect. Fridge fully stacked with anything and everything you could need after a long night. The best part in room breakfast service option! Something that many hotels do not offer. We enjoyed breakfast in our beautiful terrace surrounded by blooming wild lavander flowers! We will definitely be visiting again for another weekend getaway. Thank you for the hospitality.

The Smythe has a great accommodating staff, and it’s very quiet. Most of the rooms are nice as we have stayed there before however this time, room 505, where we stayed, noticeably needed updating and all surfaces we’re not as clean as we have seen in the past.

Service was great!! Very nice people working there. Things were clean except the carpet was badly stained in several places, definitely needs replacement. The thermostat did not seem to be working. It was 70 when I checked in, I tried to make it a bit warmer, but it went down to 67.

Our bathroom shower had hair in it and the shower was also void of soap. They did change our room, but it would be difficult to stay there for more than a night or two.

From the moment we checked in until the moment we checked out everyone was so cordial and friendly. The hotel room was clean and smelled clean, housekeeper was super sweet and kept our room tidy. We love taking quick trips to New York so this hotel is definitely on our list and will stay here again!

When I opened the door to my room the maid was still in there. The alarm clock went off before 6am - I did not set the alarm. There was only one shower towel in the bathroom. The trash can in the room wasn’t emptied and there was trash and clip-in fake hair left behind. Super gross. Then when I retrieved my car from valet, the seat belt clip that allows me to drive without wearing a seat belt and setting off the seat belt signal was missing/stolen. Overall, I would never stay at this hotel again or recommend it.

Great property and value. I stayed on the 5th floor, which was in need of some reconditioning (carpeting and furniture was a little banged up). But, it was clean, quiet, and comfortable.

This property is extremely dated and not well cared for. The room was filthy (mold, feces left in the toilet, a massive brown handprint on the black out curtains, hair everywhere) and when we told staff about this we were ignored. The gym is in the basement and requires that you shimmy between stacked up tables, lamps, and other discarded materials. Very disappointed in this property.

The Staff was excellent. Rooms and hallways filthy dirty. In our room, the vent had thick dust and looked like they haven’t been cleaned, smelled smoky. Fresh brown stain on the carpet, hallways had dust and didn’t look like it’s been edged. Dirt and dust in the platform of the bed and mattress. Super disappointed for what they charged us.

Generally great staff. Rooms are very well appointed. The restaurant food was very good. Location is great for getting around, but, the hotel is effectively on top of the subway stop and if you are at all a lite sleeper you will hear it. I’m not a lite sleeper but on our second night, Dec 24, the MTA decided to either test the PA system of just have a friendly staff conversation at 1am-til 3am. There was no way to sleep at all. The hotel only has three rooms per floor not facing the street, so the probability of getting a back-facing room is low. The windows are double pane, that didn’t help. It’s too bad about the noise situation, I would stay there again if not for that.

The location of the hotel and the staff was amazing. It's a quiet location with easy access to the subway, multiple restaurants, bars and stores nearby. As for the rooms, they need more electrical outlets, I struggled to find where to plug something in. The doors were very loud when they closed and the automatic lights in the bathroom were an inconvenience. Since the bathrooms are separated by a glass wall, everytime my husband went to the bathroom at night, the room lit up and I woke up.

The Smyth is hit or miss with their rooms and their service. Some rooms are great others absolutely horrible. Same with staff. Depends on who’s at the front desk. Location is good. The bathrooms have annoying motion detected timer lights with no dimmers that can’t be turned off. Really annoying in the middle of the night. The Queen balcony rooms are the size of a shoe box. Balcony is bigger than the room practically. Corner King is a great room. Junior suite is dark and dingy. No sunlight practically.

Great location. A little surprised at the condition of the furniture and fixtures. Lamp shades were broken and tilted. Desk rocked back and forth. Tables were chipped. The strangest thing was the bathroom. A frosted glass wall in the shower that was adjacent to the bedroom. You could see the outline of the person in the shower. Also, if you got up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, the light lit up the whole bedroom because of the frosted glass shower wall. Very odd. Unless there was another room design, I wouldn't stay here again. The staff was nice. Complimentary glass of champagne on arrival but the snack in full view when you were walked into your room were actually mini bar priced and it was very unclear they were not complimentary. Lose M&Ms and nuts in mason jars- appeared to be complimentary. The bar and tavern were very pleasant but surprised at the hallways- seemed to be very low budget for the price of the rooms.

Needed to extend my stay by 1-day. I informed them of this on Day 1. I was told not a problem and that they would send me a confirmation of the additional day. I checked with them multiple times, via multiple people over the subsequent 3 days, before I got confirmation the day before I was originally scheduled to leave, when they finally told me my room type was not available, but they had a room for double the cost. I was in a bind, so I had to accept their terms as getting a comparable room for the same day at a Hotel in Manhattan was next to impossible. I will be looking for a different hotel for my next monthly trip to NY.

We love The Smyth! The location is awesome. The rooms are spacious and the bed is very comfort. The lounge really nice. There is always a doorman and someone on duty at the front desk. It’s a hidden gem. We will definitely stay there again.

Smyth Tribeca was a great value. We were impressed. Easy location for downtown west. Walk to restaurants, World Trade Center sites, next to a subway stop to quickly go uptown. Staff were incredibly friendly, helpful and attentive.

Great location that allows for walking or east access to trains depending on your choice. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The rooms are decent sized for NYC. There is a cool bar on one side of the lobby. We plan to return.

I had much higher expectations for the property due to high price and the perception of a luxury boutique hotel. The whole experience was average. The staff was not particularly enthusiastic or helpful and forgot entirely about requests made (e.g. asking for utensils). Food Room service food was good and solid, and arrived quickly. Room I upgraded to a corner king suite and other than the larger size, it didn't seem to provide anything additional over the standard room. Appreciated the numerous outlets and USB plugs. There were tons of windows and the drapes and blinds had to be drawn manually by squeezing behind a desk - this is really inconvenient and should be automatic. The cups were not clean and had a bad smell. Bathroom The room was generally clean but I did find a few stray hairs in the bathroom. The hairdryer was unacceptable and needs to be upgraded. Towels were small, rough and cheap. Toilet paper and tissues were of unacceptable quality (see-through, flimsy and rough). The Malin Goetz toiletries were good. There is a sensor that turns on the bathroom light automatically which is actually quite annoying when going to the bathroom at night. Again for this price point in NYC, other hotels will provide a few extras that just feel elevated - turn down service, not having to request items (slippers, kettle), little perks or personalized touches.

Is this the “nicest” hotel where you’ll ever stay? No, BUT super clean, great staff, big room, GREAT location, great eating options in and around the hotel, and a cozy bar in which to debrief after a day of sightseeing. It’s definitely better than “adequate”, not super fancy, but perfect for a long weekend.
