The property was beautiful and exceptionally clean. The amenities were excellent, and our room was incredibly spacious. The location was perfect—close to Ferndale and Highway 101—which was exactly what we needed.

Very interesting and well restored older property. Currently no restaurant or food on site. Grocery just across the street. Easy drive to options in neighboring communities. Closest property to Humboldt Redwoods and amazing hiking. Be prepared for lots of stairs and no AC. Bed was comfortable. We booked a suite with two bedrooms and one bath in between. Not really suited for 4 adults, better for family with kids. Probably would have preferred two separate room but price was right. Overall, enjoyed our brief stay.

Lodge has an old fashioned vibe. Restaurant not serving meals, just small bites. Not a lot of dining options in Scotia, so we ate a couple towns away. Never saw an elevator, only stairs. No screens on the windows, but we didn’t notice any bugs in our room. Staff was nice.

This is a really beautiful hotel, set in stunning scenery. The interior is really carefully thought out and designed for entertainment. Unfortunately it was very quiet during our stay (Tuesday-Thursday) so I hope it’s just because it was mid-week and early in the season. The main disappointment was that there was no food offering in the hotel. The restaurant opens Friday and Saturday, but this isn’t made clear on the website. We had to go out for food, which was ok but after a long drive we had hoped we could just kick back in the hotel. There is a grocery store opposite the hotel, which has a good deli counter and you can also buy hot coffee from there.

This property is in a very convenient location. It is an easy on and off from the freeway. The updates they have done to the property are awesome. I loved the design. The beds are extremely comfortable! There are just a couple things that would have made our stay a little more enjoyable. Just a small selection for continental breakfast would have been great. Also, the hallways could use a little more lighting. Overall, a very nice property with a great story and we really enjoyed our stay.

The inn is located just a few miles North of Humboldt Woods - a great place to start from. The property was nicely refurbished in styles from the 1920's. Our stay was a nice change of pace from modern hotels. Everything was in perfect condition. We were disappointed that the restaurant and bar had been closed, but there are plenty of restaurants 15 minutes away by car.

Gorgeous hotel!!! The front desk staff were excellent and the lobby area was beautiful, the restaurant was closed but the “small bites” offered by the front desk were delicious and very reasonably priced. The room was very clean. The only thing was that *every* flat surface in the rooms is wood….the nightstands, tables, console under the TV, floor…and sometimes drinks and ice buckets sweat, and there are no coasters or anything so there’s nowhere to set drinks that you don’t worry about damaging the beautiful wood accents. But other than that minor thing, highly recommend and would absolutely stay there again.

The hotel is old but nice but we could not stay because my 81 year old mother couldn’t walk up the 3 flights of stairs to get to the room. This hotel does NOT have an elevator. Also the website says there is a restaurant on the premises and there is not one anymore.

Historic hotel renovated. Carries the history with its beauty and quirkiness, staff is excellent. No restaurant on site anymore, with short drive to neighbour villages there are a few basic dining options. Very quite place, amazing surrondings and air.

Scotia Lodge is great, however they no longer have a restaurant and the bar is only open 2 nights a week. The town of Scotia doesn’t have much except for a gas station and a market, so for food you have to drive to another town. The breakfast items are just frozen food that they heat up for you. Coffee was good though, and the staff is very friendly. Beds were comfortable and rooms were neat and clean. Because of the lack of things to do in the town I would probably drive a little further north and stay in a different town, but the lodge itself is wonderful for a place to sleep. Did not use the spa services so I don’t know how they are.

My room was dirty, white toothpaste debri on shelf near mirror. Hairs in bathtub. Bath wash container almost empty. Missing items in mini bar and I was charged after checkout ( refunded). Obviously my room was not cleaned after previous occupants. Disgusting!

We had a great stay at this charming, historical lodge! The history page at the beginning of the binder in each guest room was great and informative, we really enjoyed that as an introduction to the place and surrounding area. This was part of a longer roadtrip along the west coast, and we ended up getting there around 10pm after stopping at more beaches than expected, but the lovely front desk lady called at 8pm and let us know that staff would be leaving overnight but that she had set us up for late check-in (key was in a lock box, full instructions sent for entry etc., very thorough and helpful). This made for a stress free travel experience and was very appreciated! As for cleanliness, they have done a quality job with refurbishing, everything was spotless and worked well. The sink's water runs quite close to the edge of the sink- maybe harder to wash up for those with huge hands- but being that that is our only complaint, you can tell the place is pretty great! The freebies in the fridge (juice, chocolates) and complimentary spirits were also nice to walk in to. I wish we had had the opportunity to explore more of the building itself, because the ballroom area looked exquisite! A couple other random things worth noting: great water pressure, HUGE bathroom, comfy bed, and TONS of plugs! I didn't expect that last part being that it's such an old building, so I have to give credit where its due! I'm pretty sure one of them even had a euro plug built in. We'll be back!

It is a very unique lodge: beautiful rooms: we found everything we needed and the room was very clean. The hotel left some alcohol samples in the room, which is a great touch, along with apple juices and chocolates. The staff was extremely friendly, and accommodating.

This is an amazing turn-of-the-century property that has been amazingly maintained. Some of the hall carpet could be replaced, but you can tell they have put their efforts in all the right places. The rooms are brilliantly updated yet keep their old world charm. The included amenities are top notch and the staff is amazing.

Beautiful historic lodge, very clean and nice antique decor. Bed was very comfortable. Front desk and housekeeping were friendly and helpful. Convenient location to Avenue of the Giants and hiking trails. Definitely recommend!

The Scotia Inn was beautiful. Within driving distance of some nice spots to visit like the Avenue of the Giants and down the street was a few really good eating spots. There is a convenience store across the street that was really convenient too. We also ordered some local pizza (at the suggestion of a ln inn staff) and hanging around the Inn for the afternoon was quiet and a good vibe. Definitely recommend! Only "complaint" I'd have was no AC but also no screens in the windows. We're not from Cali so maybe that's normal, but we never felt comfortable leaving the windows open at night. Fortunately the room would cool down enough and they provide a fan.

Absolutely beautiful room; photos can't do it justice. Unique and tasteful, with a 1940s feel western noir feel. Custom-made wood touches inside my very large room were beautiful, dignified and in sync with the setting while still being modern and cool. No internet to speak of. In walking distance: an impoverished nearby town and a lumber mill that operates 24/7, causing noticeable noise and air pollution.

The room was amazing. Spacious, comfortable with lots of sweet touches. You really can’t beat the price point on this, at least in the off-season when we visited. The front desk wasn’t staffed a lot of the time, which wasn’t a problem for us, other than a bit of a wait when we first arrived. Cool place with a real feel of history.

We had the two room suite and loved having a king size bed. I’m just not a fan of the softness of this memory foam. The lodge is beautifully decorated and preserved. We enjoyed the decor and coziness. Everything is so clean.

Beautiful furniture, lovely big rooms. However, dining options are almost non existent (two restaurants in site but one menu with pre made frozen pizza and pre made sandwiches) that’s for dinner btw. Spa seemed closed. No hairdryer. Odd. And it’s very off the beaten path, the closest town looks a bit unsafe. It’s overall a good choice, a bit overpriced and oh the bed! Dips in the middle :(

Very well appointed hotel, bespoke & to the untrained eye pretty consistently mid-century modern in appearance ( maybe except for the weird ornate wardrobe ) furniture, great staff, wished the rooms including the bathroom had more surfaces, maybe a larger desk. The shared spaces are immaculate, The bath faucet would direct at most 10% of the otherwise great temp and pressure water to the shower head.

I really wanted to love this place. There were rooms available last minute. We were able to get a two room suite for cheaper than two separate rooms at any of the other places in the area.The building was really beautiful and the rooms were cute. The staff we met were helpful and very nice. The room came with a couple free drinks and chocolates, which was a nice touch. The rooms, bathroom, and common areas were clean. The not so great stuff: The beds were uncomfortable. If noise bothers you, this is not the place to stay. One of the windows banged around with every gust of wind and did not block any sound out. We were able to stop the banging with a little piece of toilet paper. Also, the water pressure in the shower was very weak and there wasn't really anywhere to set stuff down near the sink, which was mostly bothersome because the toilet didn't have a lid, so if you set something it could easily fall into the toilet. Also, one of the reasons we chose this hotel was that it was supposed to have a restaurant, but it wasn't open during the hours indicated. The bar was also not open. The person at the front desk was really helpful though and suggested a couple places not far away. We didn't really see any other guests, so maybe we were there in the off season or something, but it would have been nice to know in advance.

Also, one of the reasons we chose this hotel was that it was supposed to have a restaurant, but it wasn't open during the hours indicated. The bar was also not open. The person at the front desk was really helpful though and suggested a couple places not far away. We didn't really see any other guests, so maybe we were there in the off season or something, but it would have been nice to know in advance.

Interesting old building. Our room window wouldn't stay open. It kept falling down. The restroom sink didn't have mixing valve. It had separate faucets for hot and cold water, similar to what you would find in the UK. The floor squeaked a lot and the walls felt paper thin. You could hear people flushing their toilets all the time. I guess one can expect that given the age of the property.

We had the two room suite and loved having a king size bed. I’m just not a fan of the softness of this memory foam. The lodge is beautifully decorated and preserved. We enjoyed the decor and coziness. Everything is so clean

Great gal at check-in. The historic building is pretty. No hairdryer, small room, and the price is too high. The bathroom decor is very cool.

We had a great stay at this charming, historical lodge! The history page at the beginning of the binder in each guest room was great and informative, we really enjoyed that as an introduction to the place and surrounding area. This was part of a longer roadtrip along the west coast, and we ended up getting there around 10pm after stopping at more beaches than expected, but the lovely front desk lady called at 8pm and let us know that staff would be leaving overnight but that she had set us up for late check-in (key was in a lock box, full instructions sent for entry etc., very thorough and helpful). This made for a stress free travel experience and was very appreciated! As for cleanliness, they have done a quality job with refurbishing, everything was spotless and worked well. The sink's water runs quite close to the edge of the sink- maybe harder to wash up for those with huge hands- but being that that is our only complaint, you can tell the place is pretty great! The freebies in the fridge (juice, chocolates) and complimentary spirits were also nice to walk in to. I wish we had had the opportunity to explore more of the building itself, because the ballroom area looked exquisite! A couple other random things worth noting: great water pressure, HUGE bathroom, comfy bed, and TONS of plugs! I didn't expect that last part being that it's such an old building, so I have to give credit where its due! I'm pretty sure one of them even had a euro plug built in. We'll be back!

It is a very unique lodge: beautiful rooms: we found everything we needed and the room was very clean. The hotel left some alcohol samples in the room, which is a great touch, along with apple juices and chocolates. The staff was extremely friendly, and accommodating.

Confirmed via email after reserving that the front desk would close at 11pm. Arrived at 10:30pm to find the hotel closed due to "new winter hours". Upon using their ring camera to contact someone, they said to look at my text messages to find instructions on how to enter the hotel. I said thanks and hung up the ring doorbell call. I attempted to use their text message instructions to enter the hotel, but the provided key code did not work to open the front door so I could not get my room key from a supposed lock box. Never was able to get through the front door. Upon calling back on the ring camera, no one answered. So I called the hotel's phone number, got an automated service, pressed the necessary numbers, but no one answered once again. So I went back to my car and my wife quickly found a hotel room up the road where they actually picked up the phone when we called them and they had someone working at the front desk to give us our room key. Upon calling the Scotia lodge again, they finally answered, but we were already up the highway towards our new hotel. We were exhausted from driving all day and were not keen to play games with getting in a hotel, so we stayed somewhere that was actually able to accommodate us. We never stayed at the Scotia lodge due to their errors, and they are still trying to charge us for the stay. Needless to say I'm getting the credit card company to give us our money back. Shady hotel all around. Skip the headache and book somewhere else.

This is such a beautiful property that is a reasonable drive to a lot of cute and interesting places in Northern California. I loved the room. However, there was hardly any staff and I found out a couple days before arriving that the restaurant was closed. There were a few times no one was working the front desk and when I called, someone from a remote location called me back. I understand how hard it is to staff service establishment, but it felt a bit like the place was abandoned.

Historic building with a lot of potential once they can staff up appropriately to handle the guests. Boutique amenities were nice- branding, gift shop/merch, welcome drinks & complimentary coffee in room and lobby, complimentary juice in room. Staff was friendly, however not enough were on schedule to handle the restaurant, bar, lobby, and housekeeping services. We stayed 3 nights, had the service tag on the door and never had our room serviced or supplies restocked. When I asked front desk, they seemed at a loss and offered to clean the room themselves right then, but at that point, we’d already gone 2 nights without, so we just asked for a coffee replenishment . We also had an incident where we needed help with being locked out of our bathroom and didn’t receive any follow up from staff- luckily we were able to figure out ourselves. They need to have evening and off-hour support on call at minimum. There are no elevators, so be wary of the luggage you bring. Carpet throughout halls and common areas desperately need to be replaced.

The Scotia Inn was beautiful. Within driving distance of some nice spots to visit like the Avenue of the Giants and down the street was a few really good eating spots. There is a convenience store across the street that was really convenient too. We also ordered some local pizza (at the suggestion of a ln inn staff) and hanging around the Inn for the afternoon was quiet and a good vibe. Definitely recommend! Only "complaint" I'd have was no AC but also no screens in the windows. We're not from Cali so maybe that's normal, but we never felt comfortable leaving the windows open at night. Fortunately the room would cool down enough and they provide a fan.

This was a very unique and interesting hotel with great history and ambiance. The hotel is easy access and close to Avenue of Giants and Eureka. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. This is a very cool experience and my family and I enjoyed it so much that we extended our stay.

There isn't a great amount to do in this historical locale, but a short drive puts you in the redwoods or to some dining options. The grocery store across the street makes great fresh sandwiches. The rooms are unique, quiet, and well appointed. There was a very nice sitting area just outside the door of our room. The staff persons were all nice, accommodating, we enjoyed our arrival refreshment. If you want to stay in a peaceful, historic building, this lodge woorks well.

Unfortunately it was very quiet during our stay (Tuesday-Thursday) so I hope it’s just because it was mid-week and early in the season. The main disappointment was that there was no food offering in the hotel. The restaurant opens Friday and Saturday, but this isn’t made clear on the website. We had to go out for food, which was ok but after a long drive we had hoped we could just kick back in the hotel. There is a grocery store opposite the hotel, which has a good deli counter and you can also buy hot coffee from there.

I LOVED the Scotia Lodge, beautiful, clean, comfortable, friendly staff. The town feels ‘odd’-abandoned. It is an old “company town” with limited residents, services. The scenery is beautiful there ARE bigger cities nearby. If you are looking for some peaceful, relaxation this is your place.

The inn is located just a few miles North of Humboldt Woods - a great place to start from. The property was nicely refurbished in styles from the 1920's. Our stay was a nice change of pace from modern hotels. Everything was in perfect condition. We were disappointed that the restaurant and bar had been closed, but there are plenty of restaurants 15 minutes away by car.

Historic hotel renovated. Carries the history with its beauty and quirkiness, staff is excellent. No restaurant on site anymore, with short drive to neighbour villages there are a few basic dining options. Very quite place, amazing surrondings and air.

Great historic lodge feel, fascinating old lumber company town. Really nice people at the front desk (10/10), really some of the best in my extensive travels. The room was attractive and perfectly clean, had lots of character with all the modern conveniences. Only one fairly serious complaint, which is no restaurant. Not even food at the bar there. Had to go to the neighboring town for a take out sandwich for dinner. That needs to change.

They do not have any food service. Their restaurant closed, and they were “temporarily down” for preparation of their room service menu. Many many other complaints but the staff is not one of them. The hotel owners need to update the website and travel listing and stop being dishonest.

This historic Inn is lovely, very well appointed & restored accommodations. Excellent service, beautiful upgrade to the property a few years ago. It’s a really quirky and interesting little town with areas of interest to explore, if you stay here, definitely take the time to walk across the bridge it’s a beautiful view. That being said there aren’t really any restaurant options that then other than the hotel but they’re closed during the week in the off-season. The town itself is really unusual and odd but if you’re up here to see the redwoods or drive the avenue it’s a nice place to stay.

Scotia Lodge is great, however they no longer have a restaurant and the bar is only open 2 nights a week. The town of Scotia doesn’t have much except for a gas station and a market, so for food you have to drive to another town. The breakfast items are just frozen food that they heat up for you. Coffee was good though, and the staff is very friendly. Beds were comfortable and rooms were neat and clean. Because of the lack of things to do in the town I would probably drive a little further north and stay in a different town, but the lodge itself is wonderful for a place to sleep. Did not use the spa services so I don’t know how they are.

The room was shockingly dirty. The lobby is beautiful, but it gave us a completely different impression than the condition of the guest rooms which were absolutley discusting. I had actually paid to upgrade our stay to a suite, expecting a more comfortable and elevated experience. Instead, the suite was absolutely filthy. The room reeked of a musty, old-bathroom smell the moment we walked in. The floors were filthy and covered in stains. There were crumbs in the bed sheets in one of the beds, the sinks were visibly dirty, and the shower curtain had pink mold all over it. This wasn't a matter of the room simply being dated, it was a matter of basic cleanliness. We were in town for a wedding and had booked the hotel for two nights. After spending one night there, we were so uncomfortable that we packed up and left first thing the next morning. I politely asked if they would consider refunding the prepaid second night since we were leaving because of the condition of the room. The woman at the front desk was very nice and professional, but she explained that her boss would not allow a refund. I would absolutely not stay here again, and based on the condition of our suite, I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone who expects a clean and comfortable room. The photos may look beautiful, but our actual experience was just grimy. Thankfully, we were able to find another beautiful hotel in Ferndale and move there, which completely changed the experience of our trip.
The room was shockingly dirty. The lobby is beautiful, but it gave us a completely different impression than the condition of the guest rooms which were absolutley discusting. I had actually paid to upgrade our stay to a suite, expecting a more comfortable and elevated experience. Instead, the suite was absolutely filthy. The room reeked of a musty, old-bathroom smell the moment we walked in. The floors were filthy and covered in stains. There were crumbs in the bed sheets in one of the beds, the sinks were visibly dirty, and the shower curtain had pink mold all over it. This wasn't a matter of the room simply being dated, it was a matter of basic cleanliness. We were in town for a wedding and had booked the hotel for two nights. After spending one night there, we were so uncomfortable that we packed up and left first thing the next morning. I politely asked if they would consider refunding the prepaid second night since we were leaving because of the condition of the room. The woman at the front desk was very nice and professional, but she explained that her boss would not allow a refund. I would absolutely not stay here again, and based on the condition of our suite, I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone who expects a clean and comfortable room. The photos may look beautiful, but our actual experience was just grimy. Thankfully, we were able to find another beautiful hotel in Ferndale and move there, which completely changed the experience of our trip.
