Dog friendly hotel, staff are polite & happy to help with anything you may need. Lots of coach trippers but good fun and great entertainment. Second time staying.

Good bar staff, service excellent and friendly. Room was ok, bit tired but it served it's purpose. Parking at multi story very close and payment made at hotel. Will use again.

We've stayed at The Torbay many times before and has been our go to hotel in Torquay. I think it's been sold to a coach company since I booked. It's nice to see some of the familiar people still working there. The good points: The location is perfect. Right by the marina, bars and shops. It's 4 minutes walk from the Princes Theatre. The bad points : There is only one temperamental lift. The only egg choice at breakfast is scrambled. It was quite liquid. There used to be fried eggs too. The rooms are hot, although there was a fan. The rooms at the front can be noisy throughout the night from street revellers. We booked a room with beach view. Sadly our view was mainly trees. Our bed wasn't very comfortable. I asked on 2nd day for a mattress topper or to move room. They popped on a mattress topper. It was a bit better, but the mattress didn't have any structure. We stayed in room 424. If you are over 5ft 3 refuse this room. The bathroom is rediculously small and badly planned. Whilst trying to use the toilet you have the toilet roll holder just about sticking in you and the heated towel rail in the way of your knee. The shower has no power. It's also quite hard to set the temperature of the water. I'm not sure if it will be available to book in the future, but it may be they are keeping the best rooms for their coach guests. We've had lovely rooms before. Will be more specific when booking in future. Can't seem to get photos to attach.

Overall we had a pleasant stay at the Torbay Hotel Breakfast options could be improved eg different egg options as specially the scrambled egg option tasted and smelt fish Our room had been renovated good size lovely sea view this was a superior deluxe and family were in a deluxe room which was also a good size with lovely sea views. No housekeeping on a Sunday or a Wednesday which is disappointing All the staff we came across were lovely and friendly / liked a laugh with you, bar staff worked very hard. The lift is the main issue within the hotel as it works sporadically and stops between floors with you in it and you have to wait for it to be rebooted by staff They are generally very observant of this. Great location to all that is going on around the area. If it wasn’t for the lift we would have rated it 10/10

The lift was broken taking 20 mins or more to get down stairs. The staff look misserable and it was full of pensioners staking claim to food areas sleeping in the lounge area. We was given an ironing board but no iron when we asked. Definatly over priced.

The lift was too slow and a building that size should have 2, but a lovely place to stay with lovely staff 😊

Old building, few quirks! Clean, tidy, doggy friendly. Lovely bar/lounge area. Close to all amenities, the gardens & harbour is across the road. Staff are friendly, informative. Breakfast is buffet style and you can ask for alternatives. I would stay here again. I took my 2 dogs, their allowed anywhere in the building. Transport links for Railway easy. The number 12/22 bus takes you allover. There is the land train stop opposite to help you get around. Evening entertainment in the ballroom. Price is reasonable even for dogs too.

I really like this hotel and have stayed twice now, we are local and come for a night. The location is brill and close to everything in the centre, the staff are lovely and look after you. It has a lovely feeling to it with the nice bar area and entertainment. All the guests have been friendly travelling for miles to stay here. I’d definitely stay again and again. Parking is also a bonus £6 for 24hr in Fleet Street.

An older character property in a very convenient position overlooking sea. Good value for money, but some attention needed to old rotting window frames. Noisy room overlooking road, and our room was not serviced after our first night of two. Entertainment in evening an unexpected bonus. Breakast buffet fine. No parking but reduced rate available at nearby multistorey by purchasing a pass. Major roadworks causing traffic jam outside hotel making difficult to drop guests off for check-in. Generally a satisfactory stay for our purpose of going to Princess Theatre.

All good except the lift was an absolute pain and kept breaking , was due to be mended on one of the days we were there but engineers didn’t turn up so not hotels fault . Very nice helpful lady who ran the bar in the evenings .

On arriving the welcoming was absolutely amazing very welcoming and friendly and nothing was too much. Very clean rooms and spacious

Very run down property. Bed uncomfortable and no option to have kingsize bed. Had to clean the bath before using to remove the scumline. Brick wall views out both windows . Asked to move rooms but the one offered was even worse and was only one night. Bonus was it vry close to princess theatre .

Reception staff were amazing always ready to help and very friendly.Staff at breakfast were also great and breakfast was nice. Position of hotel was very good right in the centre.Hotel is in need of an update but to be fair for what we paid we couldn’t grumble. Hotel its self was clean but our room was not.The carpet was very stained which ok if its stained but clean n hoovered you wouldnt mind but there was a 5p piece on the floor, bits of tissue and a used coffee sachet on the floor so it hadn’t been hoovered.The bed side table had spilt coffee on it.I cleaned the room myself with hand santizer . The cleaner of our room needs training on how to clean a room. Apart from that bed was comfy, shower was good and it was a big room. Apart from the cleaning of the room on arrival the hotel was ok and if this changes we would stay again . Thanks to all the other staff for making our stay enjoyable

The gentleman that checked us in was friendly and professional. The hotel is very dated, paint chipping throughout the facility, carpets stained in room, cobwebs coming down from bathroom ceiling, pubic hair on bed sheet. Parking was in a structure quite a walk from the hotel. Not convenient when traveling with suitecases. View from room was horrible.

Hotel is very dated …outdated decor & overall cleanliness was poor!! Walls in corridors were grubby with stains. The bathroom was terribly dirty. The shower cubicle had not been cleaned in weeks by the look of it, there were stains on the floor. It was a shame because it looked like it had been renovated not too long ago. The carpet was not hoovered properly in our room, the dust behind the door was thick. The window was so so old we struggled to open it & then to keep it open. We had to open it because the whole hotel was stiflingly hot & there was horrible stench from sewers. The staff were very pleasant & helpful so that was definitely a plus. Breakfast was mediocre…bacon was hard like plastic.

Bathroom needs attention, especially the shower Could of done with a hoover Mattress not very comfortable

Terrible stains on the mattress protector. Bed not maid every day. Towels not change. Toilet paper cheap and not fit for purpose.

The staff were lovely, breakfast was very good but oh my, the room was really bad. It was tiny, on the top floor with a tiny window. The floor was uneven so made me feel giddy, the toilet seat was hanging off, the shower had virtually no water pressure, the carpet looked filthy, the phone didn’t even have a connection wire so no chance of calling Reception and the bath towel was stained so couldn’t use it. I know this was a dog friendly room so didn’t expect a great deal and it was cheap but it really was quite horrible.

First room 414. Friday 24th. Went to the restaurant at 18.45 “have you booked a table sir? “No I didn’t know!” The chef couldn’t accommodate us and I was flabbergasted. Dined at Weatherspoons. I asked reception on our return regarding food refusal “shortage of staff, only 9, yes 9. Taking into account only 10 eating. That’s almost a personal chef for all…. Room 414. Freezing cold, radiator didn’t work. Window wouldn’t shut properly. Saturday morning 25th temperature was -01c. Given a superior twin room 429. Heating good. However the shower was deplorable. Goodness knows the last time the glass and tiles were cleaned throughly. The shower mat had black mould patches, never cleaned. We didn’t use it. I will provide pictures, hopefully later in this review.

Location was excellent for Torquay town centre and beach. Hotel was welcoming and friendly. Room had a see view and was large tith all the amenities you would expect.

The location was excellent for shopping/dining, the marina. The staff were polite 😊 The room was dated, not particularly clean and did not look like the picture on the website, we chose the hotel as it says in Expedia’s description that there is a marina view. However, this is not the case, you cannot see the marina at all from your window, only the trees that are in a line infront of the property.

We arrived early for checkin and asked if we could leave our bag which was no problem. Only stayed one night but found it very good value, nice room with a sea view, comfortable bed and a good breakfast in the morning. Cant really ask for more. Thank you, we will be back!

Location for the princess theatre was really good. Staff very friendly and helpful. The bedroom was warm and clean. Sadly the window wasn't double glazed so I could hear traffic and chatter as I was on the road side of the building.

Room was clean comfortable and pleasant, we booked a room with a sea view and was in a good position except the huge trees outside on the main road were not being kept by the local council and blocked the view completely. Staff as always were excellent extremely helpful. I love this place

Noisy

The hotel and room it’s self were out dated, but I guess that’s what you get for £55 a night. There was no AC that i could see so I had to open the window. As soon as it was opened in walked a seagull and jumped from the window on to the bed where I was sleeping. After about 2 mins we managed to get him to leave. Now I tried to block the window up with some items to allow air through but to deter the seagulls trying to enter. I kinda worked but gulls are cleaver

I booked a family room. Great size for 3 people. We were looking over the harbour. Great view. Shower in my room was not good, no pressure. Crack on the floor of the shower, felt like I was going to fall through. Bath mat provided was mouldy and disgusting to stand on.

Over night stay Nice hotel and great staff

My second visit. Helpful and friendly staff. Very good central location. Like a home from home. Looking forward to returning again

Greeting from staff was welcoming and informative. I could not use their suggested car park due to height restriction and they were helpful as to alternative arrangements, although unfortunately this does then add onto the cost of your stay, per 24hours. Worryingly, from talking to other staff I got the impression Torquay may have high crime rate, which made me feel uneasy about open air car parking, Room was far better than expected, spacious and clean. I think we may have been upgraded due to time of year and hotel not being fully booked, which was an unexpected bonus. Despite hotel being very well looked after, from a cleanliness point of view, it did appear to have some damp and maintenance issues in the entertainment bar area, but this did not affect our stay. We did feel our booking was good value for money. Regarding the town shopping area, sadly as with many places, there were empty shops and felt run down, on the other hand, seafront area appeared to be well maintained and beach area looked nice. Overall we enjoyed our stay

Lovely stay as a group of 7 ladies celebrating for the weekend. Our rooms were lovely and spacious. The beds were really comfortable. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was nice, although the plates are quite small - so just pop things on top of each other if you're hungry. There is a good selection of cooked items and cereal or fruit. The location is perfect if you're going to see a show as it's literally 500 yards away. Great for the shops and bars too. The lift can be a little tempermental, so if you have mobility issues it may be worth mentioning this. The room was quite warm, but there was a fan in the wardrobe if we needed. A lot of hotels say they are 500 yards from the beach etc, but in Torquay that may be 500 yards down a cliff. This hotel is on the flat and a 20 minute walk from the train station.

A good value hotel in a great position. The breakfast is OK but would be better with better quality ingredients and more staff. Due to the lack of staff there was a long Queue which could have been avoided. Also more staff would mean food would have been stocked better. The quality of the sausages needs to be improved - even my dog turned up his nose. Take a look at Beefeater suppliers as my dog loves those! Porridge would be a good addition and better quality bread. I felt the coffee was an instant rather than a fresh bean coffee. If all was better quality I would be happy to pay more.

WE ARRIVED EARLY TO HAVE DAY SIGHTSEEING BEFORE WE BOOKED IN AT 3PM,WE WENT IN AT 8.30 AM TO GO TO TOILET AS WE PARKED OUTSIDE HOTEL,WE WAS GREETED BY THE STAFF AND BROUGHT A TEA AND COFFEE,BECAUSE WE WAS EARLY THEY ARRANGED FOR OUR ROOM TO BE READY AT 12 INSTEAD OF 3,THIS WAS EXTREMELY KIND OF THEM,AND SOME ONE FETCHED OUR LUGGAGE FROM THE CAR TO THE ROOM,YET AGAIN EXTREMELY HELPFUL AS WE ARE BOTH DISABLED.GREAT SERVIVE GREAT STAFF,ALL HELPFUL,(SPECIAL MENTION TO ALAN WHO HELPED PUT LUGGAGE IN AND TOOK LUGGAGE TO CAR WHEN WE WERE LEAVING).

The location if the hotel is great and the hotel was good for the price paid.

Good value for the price paid. Very busy hotel. It is situated in a central location for the popular attractions. Stayed for 4 nights, staff pleasant and helpful. Car parking is a shirt walk away from hotel which is on a busy main road. Overall had a great time and would recommend for a cheap week end away.

Excellent central location

I stayed late October and booked a single room for two nights. Nice walk from the station (there is a bus that stops outside) and the hotel is opposite harbour/quayside and close to the town centre. Excellent value for money - £35 per night!! No breakfast but I could have paid it if wanted. Staff good, has a small bar, discount parking if you drive and the bus outside goes to Paignton and Brixham.

Central location - perfect for quayside, theatre and beach. Busy roadside location. No parking, but public parking within a couple of mins walking. Staff very friendly and helpful. Good value for money, a little tired in places but what do you expect for a value/budget hotel. I would definitely stay again. Location perfect.

Problem with lift so if you have mobility issues, advisable to contact hotel first. We were on the 4th floor with our 83 year old mother & often stuck without it. Hotel dated but comfortable nights sleep. Ideal central location.

Good hotel in an ideal location. For the money it was just what we needed.

Staff at the property were lovely, location is great, very central to Torquay. Only slight gripe is the lack of air con in the rooms, it was one of the hottest days in fairness, and the room was boiling hot all night.

The only thing that let's this hotel down is the breakfast. Tables are never relaid for other people to use, you have to go look for cutlery, cups. The buffet cooked food is not good quality, as it use to be years ago. Not enough staff to tend to the customers. So from now on we will just pay for room only. Apart from that the staff are friendly and helpful

It’s a nice hotel a little dated, breakfast was between 7.30 and 9.00, check out was at 10.00 so it leaves very little time in the morning as most hotels breakfast is 7.00 to 11.00 checkout at 12.00. Not much selection at breakfast it offers a buffet style yet there were no pastries or fruit on offer.

Nice hotel very central, have stayed here a couple of times before good value for money, only problem we had this weekend the breakfast buffet had rang out and lots of people were waiting for food to come out of the kitchen, due to the restaurant staff probably not keeping the kitchen informed? On the whole though this is a good comfortable hotel .

Hotel is very dated and not in the best condition my window was all rotted with next to no paint on it the shower was a waste of time. I turned up for breakfast at 8:45 and there was next to nothing left so no breakfast..
