The Guv'nor Inn & Pub

What you’d expect from a three star hotel. If you’re looking for an affordable night not far from St. John’s Airport, this is a good choice. The attached Guv’nor Pub is a great bonus; it has very good food.

This hotel has a beautiful ambiance to it. And the food in the pub was excellent. So many great choices. I could eat there three times a day for a whole week!

Staff are very welcoming and kind during our stay. Easy to get to downtown St John's by driving. Went to the pub for breakfast and food was really good!

I recently stayed at the Gov’ner Inn in St. John’s and overall had a comfortable experience. The room was very clean, which is always my first priority when traveling. I especially liked the convenience of being able to park right outside the door to the room as it made unloading luggage quick and easy. One thing to note is that the room was quite warm, even with the colder weather outside. I turned down the heat, but the bathroom seemed to have its own system that I couldn’t adjust, so I kept that door closed. Even then, the room stayed hot enough that I had to run the fan on the A/C for relief. The walls are on the thinner side, so you can hear TVs and conversations from neighboring rooms. It didn’t bother me much since things quieted down after a while, but light sleepers may want to keep this in mind. On the positive side, the bed was very comfortable and came with plenty of pillows, which made for a good night’s sleep. The room was well-equipped with a fridge, microwave, coffee maker and coffee supplies that are great for anyone who likes to have snacks or drinks handy. The bathtub was another nice touch, offering the option for a soak after a long day. Staff were friendly and check-in was straightforward. The location is convenient if you’re looking to explore St. John’s, with easy access to nearby restaurants and shops. Overall: A clean, well-equipped room with some quirks around heating and soundproofing. Comfortable beds, lots of pillows, and handy ame

Aight I'm not trying to get into it but every car in the parking lot had windows smashed out including ours, huge bummer.

Lock your car doors.

A Truck had a window beat out , no fault of the hotel but hotel never even clean up the glass on the ground. Rooms weren’t clean especially around the windows.

I liked that were rooms you could park your car in front for convenience

Vehicle broken in to. Hotel was aware of vandalism and made no effort to alert us. Terrible.

We had mice in our room that chewed a chocolate bar we left on the table and also found silverfish in the bathroom.

The good-the Guv'nor was very conveniently located close to where I needed to be. The sheets & towels were clean & the staff at the front desk were helpful & efficient. The bad-the room smelled, I wondered if I would smell like it after spending a few days there. The bathroom toilet needed a good dose of javex & under the bed hadn't been cleaned in probably a few years. Overall, it worked for my purposes but I wouldn't stay again & I would have a hard time recommending it. It needs cleaning & updating!

Clean rooms bed very comfortable

Dirty wet towels behind the door in bathroom . “Clean towels” had thick black hair in them . Entire hall smelled wet and damp

Room smelled musty like old smoke. Corners and baseboards were dirty. There was a hair in the bathtub.

The property had dust everywhere, bed headboards, baseboards, trims. The window AC was dusty, and very loud. My husband had to turn it off to get to sleep. As a result it was very warm. The entrance to the property was unkept, dust and dirt on floor. Our departure morning my husband saw some sort of bug, I’ve never seen one like it before. I would not stay there again

We booked 3 rooms. The beds were good. The rooms had layers of dust on the bed frames, table base and on the tv box

Nice room, comfortable bed, room very clean, good location.

I thought we would be closer to downtown. Rooms were tiny but the bed was fabulous.

The staff were very pleasant and agreeable. However the hotel is old and showing its age. I would suggest this is more like a cheap motel. Rooms are clean but lacking maintenance. Mattress was old and sagging in the middle. We. Kept rolling to the centre of the mattress. Over priced for the quality

Staff seemed fine. Room was a bit dated. Walls thin. Pipes made a lot of noise. But for $100 it wasn’t awful.

The room was really small but served the purpose for our stay.

We stayed 4 nights Aug 8,9,10,11. Given a horrible ground floor room in back area (Room 104) One window looking onto parking lot that you couldn't open curtain on because there was no privacy sheers and people were walking back and forth outside of it and parking large pick-up trucks in front of our space. It was like being in a cave. No daily housekeeping service and when we asked about this, front desk agent was surly with my husband, saying "We don't do that." There was only 2 electrical outlets in the main area of the room and we had to rotate what we plugged in. There was only one bedside table on one side of the bed and nothing on the other side. Baseboards were dirty with dust. Bathroom vanity was coming loose from the wall and tilting forward so toiletries would roll off if not placed strategically.

It was ok for what we needed, it could just use an update. Stayed there years ago and it doesn’t seem like much has been done with the place since. It was clean, and the bed was comfortable, convienient that it was close to a lot of things but it could definitely use an update. Front reception was ok, not overly friendly. Not terrible either. It was fine for what we needed like I said.

Room rate for the size of the room and the soundproofing in the walls are very poor.

Small odor in room. Room was very wam and ac noisy. Staff were fantastic.

The room service and the guest greeter “Patrick” did really good job in customer service. The atmosphere was very good.

Everything was going great at the beginning. They let us check in early which was appreciated. What went wrong was when we turned in our keys at 4:30am (early flight) we got notified that we didn’t pay for the room. Room was paid for through Expedia. Don’t know what went wrong. They said they had a new system. I had them take a picture of my receipt stating room was paid for and gave them my phone number and left. Wanted to make our flight.

This place double charges MORE. I paid in full on Expedia for two nights. Upon check in there's the standard security deposit. I found I was charged and the transaction was posted a total of $600 on that day by the Guv'nor Inn. This is way higher than the room total. Upon calling to tell them of the huge charge, they claim to not have information and transfer to extensions that are not answered.

There were a few hiccups, but staff was there to help and make everything better. Couldn't say enough about the the great service.

The room was quaint, but cozy, and the beds were really comfortable. I was really happy with the shower as well - it's uncommon for hotels to have such good water pressure! Bruce at the front desk was friendly and extremely helpful, and we had a great stay! Thank you so much!

A nice place to stay and the staff went out of their way to help.

Maintenance and front desk staff went above and beyond the call of duty to accommodate our needs of a freezer to store freshly purchased fish. It really made the whole experience stand out and apart from other compatible hotels in the area. Thank you and I'll definitely stay again!

We came and checked in and everything was great and everything was going well I had ended up starting my period and it was unexpected so I went to the front desk and asked for some feminine products and they had no feminine products I asked about conditioner they said no conditioner and this is the first time I stayed in a hotel that didn't have conditioner or feminine products and so I went to get a shower and since 4:30 this morning until 12:30 this afternoon I had to wait for someone to fix my shower I could not shower I had no feminine products and at 20 minutes to 1 The lady from the front desk come down beaten very loudly on the door and I was in the shower and she knew I was in the shower due to the delay of everything that was happening with the shower not working and having no feminine products and she was spoke very ignorant and disrespectfully to me about how I had to leave at 1:00 after I had to wait from 4:30 to 12:30 for a shower because the shower was broken and staff couldn't fix it I guess and when I booked my room yesterday it said check in at 3:00 and check out at 4:00 And when we addressed the lady at the front desk about how we couldn't shower and it was broken and we literally would turn on the shower and the hot water would be gone and we asked if we could get something done like we wanted to come and stay another night And with all this is if we could get a second night discounted and they were very rude and would not do anything to help us

The way google will tell you to get to the attractions from this hotel is definitely interesting. On my back from a museum I stopped and talked to some people and after an hour one of them got assaulted and I was very politely informed that that part of town wasnt typically for tourists. Lovely hotel, lovely town, but be careful when walking from the hotel to the attractions

The Guv'nor was perfect for St. John's Newfoundland. We could easily walk down the hill to the city's main sights and take a cab up hill for a safe, clean rest. It saved driving our larger vehicle over hill and dale. The staff was knowledgeable, helpful and friendly.

Great location!

Staffs were friendly and helpful. Room was neat and clean. Bus stop is right in front of the hotel, 10 mins to downtown.

Wonderful staff in the Hotel and Restaurant, Nice patio area outside. Very laid-back. Close to shopping area. Great area for walking.

Nice central location, tv did not work properly, AC was not great. Some skeets loitering around parking area in morning.

Walkin distance from hospital convenience and friendly

Inconsistent messaging about damage deposit expectations. First visit was $600, second $300 and no explanations why. First visit room was carpeted musty, mold in bathroom, old beat up furniture and the room left our luggage and clothing smelling, second marginally better half renovated but still old furniture worn down. Tiny windows in rooms. No breakfast. Nice restaurant next door though! Shady people walking by that may accost you as they did us and verbally be aggressive, physically approach and look through cars, bum smokes. Rat traps outside. For the price go up the road to a well known quality establishment.

The location was perfect for what I for needed

Restaurants food was super expensive and not great. Rooms need updating as they are tired looking. Was given a one bed room, but originally paid for two bed room which would have been bigger. Room was very small.

Staff were polite and friendly restaurant conveniently located on site. Good food

The staff was pleasant and accommodating , the pub menu was well rounded; the food delicious. The VLTs on property were a plus. The room was nice the bathroom very clean with the exception of one spider surprising me in the shower. The smoke shack was big and comfy. One bus to downtown, 10 mins on foot to the mall. All in all a great stay.

This is a historic establishment with all the character expected. It has all the amenities of a newer build, and is quite adequate. The restaurant serves a complimentary breakfast with the room rental and it was delicious.

Did not have good water pressure, like a lumpy shower but it did the trick. Staff were really good. Pub food wasn’t my favourite. The walk downtown seems short but it’s straight uphill. Overall place was good for that I paid. :)
