Parking garage off site on a sleepy Sunday evening (no on site valet) made a lot of hay about how they have a right to not accept my pickup truck. If you’re looking for an experience like that consider using the hotel lot. Check in is 100 percent self serve. As in you make your own key and navigate an iPad and hope everything is correct. If one key doesn’t work (in my case) you might get stuck in an elevator for a ride up and down but at least you might make a new friend. One strong suit is this property used to be staff attitude (super upbeat and warm in late 2021, a real low point in the history of staff morale). Now instead you get an iPad. Downstairs cafe would not serve cut fruit at 1130am, had no iced or cold coffee options except hot over ice, and the service vibe was decidedly inconsistent with this hotel groups typical standards. HVAC in my room was set to cool at 67 or 66F and could not be turned to warm. Turning it off the room did not change temp during my entire stay which made it so cold and unpleasant I decided to go home and sleep in my own bed. Sadly this will be my last stay at this property. Would rather pay more for a more reliable and seamless hospitality experience

wonderful stay in beautiful hotel! close to everything or if you don’t want to walk the subway is super convenient to use to go anywhere!! nice staff, swank hotel room and even kinda big for nyc hotel! rooftop bar is spectacular views and good drinks and light bites!!!

Public is my go to hotel for all of my nyc trips. Location is great and you literally have everything you need in this hotel. Restaurant, coffee bar, amazing rooftop with epic music. Definitely worth booking

This hotel has an incredibly strict “no laptop” policy in all common areas after 6pm. If you’re a hotel guest, the only place you can work is in your room. If you try to work in any of the lounges or common spaces, they’ll yell at you. It’s totally impractical. I understand wanting to maintain some laptop free zones. But in 2025, to say that you can’t be on your computer anywhere, in any space, is totally outrageous.

Nice property and clean stay. The only downside that they don’t tell you about is that there’s a club upstairs, downstairs and 2 bars and on Saturday nights it’s jam packed outside and gets super loud.

There is a water pipe valve banging noise constantly. Sounds like a water pump. The noise continues throughout the day and at night. Noise from the roof top bar can be heard until 2 am. Hallway carpets are filthy. Sheets had stains on them. Staff is not service oriented at all.

My daughter and I stayed at Public hotel while visiting my son who lives in the east village. The location was perfect for hitting all our fave spots in SoHo, Nolita, East and West Village as well as train access to Brooklyn. Amenities were great and property was modern,clean, and safe. Friendly and accommodating staff as well. Would definitely stay again.

We stayed in the kind room with a sofa bed and the room did not look as advertised in the picture. It was also dirty. The shower head had so much dirty buildup on it that some of the spouts didn’t work and the grout in the shower had mold on it. There was also hair all over the bathroom when we first checked in. Walls were dirty. Would not recommend

Our first room was dirty, mold in the bathroom fixtures and what I can only hope were water stains on the pull out couch. To their credit the hotel rectified very quickly. Our second room was adequate however one of the wood panels fell off the closet and left exposed nails. This was repaired quickly and cheerfully. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful and accommodating and we enjoyed the food. The location was great but I don’t think we’ll return.

air con didn’t work for the first 3 days, even after calling front desk. engineer was rude when he came to fix and used bathroom. bed sheets were dirty and there was someone else’s previous pink star pimple patches on the side of the table after i checked in, so was not cleaned well. wifi did not work for awhile and would also disconnect frequently.

Loved how easy it is to get around with all the subways around. Also super close to a lot of shops which is nice. Not a fan of the thin windows that don't block noise. Combine that with their club that is super popular and runs until 4am and you've got people yelling and screaming all night when you're trying to get some rest for the next day. Was disappointed as this place almost has it all and for the price I was paying for it I would've expected the room to be more sound proof. Word to the wise, don't spend the extra money on a room with a great view as that just puts your room right by the club entrance and you will be kept up all night.

Hotel is cool concept, common areas are nice, but things were broken in the two different rooms I stayed in, from curtains broken to shelves in bathroom falling off the wall. The rooms are super noisy, with very little noise proofing to the street, and you'll hear the club until late into the night.

Odd hotel. Designed to be streamlined and intuitive but check in is glitchy and it is self check-in at a kiosk. This seems very budget level versus this price point. Since it had issues, it just made it annoying. Everything is controlled in room using a touch pad and it was just so so. Room experience didn’t match price point and it feels like they are forcing a vibe that doesn’t fit well.

The beds are on 4” platforms so low to the base. The Queen rooms are very close to the window so walking around to get into your side is a bit challenging especially if older. We switched to 2 single bed option. Worked perfectly. Hotel was very accommodating. Thankyou!

The hotel is very good-looking, but I wish I had been given a disclaimer about the club on the second floor since my room is on the third. Overall, the room and the amenities were great. However, the sound system at 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights was not.

Gorgeous property but I don’t know… there’s something especially egregious about expensive hotels who don’t ensure guests have a great view of the city atleast. A decent city view is an additional premium which I find really greedy. Also, the hotel rooms prioritize aesthetic over function. The toilet was literally in the same space as the shower which I find really gross. For those reasons, I probably wouldn’t stay here again.

The hotel doesn’t do a typical check-in and you are to check-in yourself through a computer. As a result we never received any of the gold status VIP or learned about what the hotel offered and what we had access to that we were paying an access fee for. There is also a night club in the basement of the hotel and if you want your room on the lower floor to be shaking, well then this is the place for you. If not maybe find another hotel.

I had a fantastic experience with Public. Air Canada went on strike and only a few us arrived. We booked a suite and they accommodated us to a smaller room and refunded us for the bigger one. Unfortunately the first night, there were a couple fighting the room right next to us. And we told the hotel, they upgraded us to a nicer room the next day and also compensated us for the night before. And I had to stay one extra night and they just let me stay in the same room for a basic room price. Overall the staff were so friendly and I really enjoyed my time there. 5 star! And I will come back again. The only thing is at the restaurant below. The restaurant wasn’t super clean, it had hair on the couches. It doesn’t seem like they do a through clean of the breakfast restaurant.

The computers went down. We could not check in until the next day. Never had that happen with a hotel before. Manager came at 10:45pm to see why we were not checked in. Miscommunication? The staff was friendly. Good location for restaurants, vibrant area.

Great staff. Professional and friendly. Sink drained slowly, asked for it to be fixed on day one, but the issue was never resolved. Asked for a different room because the black-out drapes where not fully retractable, but this issue wasnt resolved. Asked for the tissue box to be refilled, but this also wasn't taken care of. Free room upgrade wasnt honored.

Please don’t waste your money. Staff is non existent, room is not comfortable, it is not worth what you pay for. I know the location is supposed to be worth it but honestly it isn’t. So expensive for a tiny tiny bedroom where you get two towels for two people. It’s a self service hotel now so good luck getting the staff to help you with anything. The security guy at the hotel signed for a package I had delivered to the property and lost it, a $350 USD package ! Even though I alerted the hotel before hand about the delivery and it was signed by Gabe, their security guy, no one could give me an answer about my package, and it was lost. Truly such a bad experience.

I’ve stayed at this hotel 4 times and ‘had’ always loved it. The staff were wonderful, but didn’t make any effort to honour my upgrade and heating in my room was broken for the entire stay. They fixed it on the final day. The overall feeling I got from the hotel was that they couldn’t really be bothered about my stay and just wanted to get me in and out! It’s lost its ‘shine’, so this will be the final stay at Public!

The staff (when we could find them) were great and very kind. It was hard to track people down as it seems the hotel has attempted to utilize systems in place of staff. The hotel was a GREAT location but had more of a hostel feel vs. a hotel. Particularly at night, the nightclub vibe and presence of people in the lobby who were clearly NOT staying in the hotel was something we weren’t prepared to encounter. We did love the rooftop bar for an early evening drink and the coffee bar downstairs was great. Those were perks. Our room was extremely small and there weren’t many amenities - no lotion, no bathrobes, slippers, etc. Maybe it’s on us for not doing more research but I feel this is more of a hotel for younger/partying travelers vs. young professionals/moms like us trying to have a nice weekend away. I sadly don’t think we’d come back to this hotel however we would return for a rooftop drink!

The staff is always friendly. Love the bartenders at the main bar and at ‘The Roof’ always. Very convenient area, 15 min walk to Soho and 6 min walk to some of my favorite drunk night food stops like Prince St Pizza. I always stay here when I’m visiting the city for events. A short ride to areas like Brooklyn as well, if you need to cross the bridge. The crowd is always a great mix but overall very hip.

Room is a dream. I asked ahead of time for my "queen great view" to face downtown. Lobby people were friendly helping me get checked in early and got me a room with a clear view of the one world trade center. Location was #1 for me. Area is super convenient being between downtown and midtown. All of the surrounding neighborhoods have a distinct personality. You can walk for 30 minutes in any direction and anywhere you land will be lively. F train is around the corner from the hotel. It made going uptown to popular attractions like central park and museum of natural history a breeze for a first timer. Staff very friendly as well. Their uniforms are fresh

I had an amazing stay at PUBLIC Hotel in New York. The view from my room was incredible the kind that instantly makes you feel like you’re really in the heart of the city. Loved this property! Clean, comfortable, fantastic aesthetic! Great coffee and snack bar, restaurant, roof top, exercise amenities! It was the perfect choice to be close to where my daughter lives while visiting her! I’ll definitely be back and would recommend!

if you like nightlife, this is the hotel for you. my husband and i enjoyed the lobby bar, rooftop, speakeasy and the nightclub downstairs. our bartenders were friendly, helpful, and the other staff we interacted with were excellent as well. everything is self service, even getting towels etc. the juice bar was out of their signature juice which was disappointing but the food options were good. loved that it was next to a whole foods. they kept our luggage after checkout so we could explore. the room was spotless when we arrived. toilets were a bit uncomfortable. overall enjoyed the experience.

The property was good and clean. Room was clean and spacious for a no mad feel. Not much staff interaction except with The Roof ordeal. We was told go to level 5. Then we was told outside entrance to show ID and a hand stamp. Which was weird when hotel guest. Then walked around the building to find the entrance then was told special access elevator to floor 18. Finally got on the elevator and to The Roof. Service was slow and bad for 5pm opening.

Great location with plenty of eating places, a wide range of shops and art galleries in the neighbourhood. The hotel was inviting with panoramic views from the rooftop. The entire staff team were professional, courteous and always helpful. Great breakfast at Louis with a super team of staff who always strived to please. Thank you.

Perfect location and nice hotel. Roof is beautiful and a hot spot. Only thing that caused less then a full 5 star rating was a server on the roof top who was miffed that only water was ordered and showed it 100% in voice and attitude.

A very beautiful hotel! Has everything you could possibly need and within a walking distance to everything. Aesthetically pleasing, the food at popular was amazing. The vibe at The Roof was everything and not forgetting the bar man Ricky with his excellent service! Not forgetting the guy who works at Louis who is so good with names and makes you feel special even if you just grabbing and cup of coffee. I definitely recommend this hotel and hope to be back soon!

Great room and great amenities. Enjoy a complimentary morning exercise or drinks at their stunning rooftop bar. Will definitely keep Public in my back pocket for the next time I return to NYC! Affordable yet luxurious, located near the heartbeat of the city but still felt relaxed. You’ll come for the aesthetic, and be back for the convenience!
