The White House Inn

A few kind hearted suggestions. Since it appears the rooms are all upstairs, a bell hop would’ve been very very helpful. As it was, my daughter had to drag up two suitcases and two bags up 2 flights of stairs with no assistance. It was very very difficult. I followed with things to carry up the stairs and as a 64-year-old woman, it was also very difficult. I almost fell on the last few steps before Suite 12. I suggest a nightlight in the bathroom. Maybe a sign that says “watch your head” for the loft, because that was unexpectedly painful. A clock in the suite would’ve been nice. housekeeping needs to do a better job cleaning out the shower. There must’ve been a clog or Hair & I took a shower standing in water the whole time. Very unpleasant. I also suggest educating the person at Check in. She didn’t know where the “game room” was and didn’t know you had a pool table. She told us to ask a server where it was and this was a dinner time. We probably wouldn’t even have known there was a game room or a chessboard, if it wasn’t for the paper left in the suite which provided some information. The speakeasy really the only good part of our stay. We spent our time on the property watching the Cubs game in the speakeasy. We were mostly by ourselves, & it was very pleasant. I doubt we would stay there again. I didn’t feel the hospitality and customer assistance that should’ve been provided at an Inn, for that price.

We stayed only one night at The White House, however wish we could have stayed longer. After our arrival, the bar opened at 4pm. Mike the bar attendant was very friendly amd made great Old Fashioneds. We did not eat at Clara's but expect the food was great. Mike mentioned they make their own pasta. Rooms were spacious, updated, clean and had a great view. As a bonus our rooms had gas fireplaces, perfect for the crisp New England weather.

The place is beautiful and the rooms comfortable. But if you are hoping for service apart from the courtesy of staying in your room, you will be disappointed. They are catering to people who are coming to the restaurant and the vast majority of those people are not staying at the inn. If you are a guest at the inn, know that there are no reserved places at the restaurant for guests as is customary for inns with an on-site restaurant. More unusually for restaurants in general, this restaurant neither has a wait list for impromptu eating nor will let you eat at the bar. You are on your own and they will not let you eat if you don’t have a reservation. We experienced this firsthand. Again, the inn itself is nice, but they are more interested in serving people who visit the restaurant. Paying guests who want to enjoy the amenities are a secondary concern. Visiting this area in the future, we will stay at one of the inns in town where there are also restaurants off site. The inn is only large to ensure it can service non-guest restaurant visitors.

Gorgeous, classic New England property with a stunning sunset view from their front lawn. The bar and restaurant area were excellent. Just a few minutes drive to downtown Wilmington. The room for 2 had a cozy loft bedroom upstairs that was a welcome unique feature. My only minor complaint would be the room didn't have a fridge, but everything else was memorable and we had a great stay!

Beautiful hotel. super comfortable bed, nice linens. Restaurant was lovely and the food was great. Speakeasy game room downstairs was great to hang out in after dinner. Will definitely be back!

Beautiful edifice full of recently renovated old world charm. The main areas are beautifully appointed with a newly renovated bar area. The rooms themselves were spacious with fairly comfortable bedding and superior towels. However, there was an annoying periodic chiming that was occurring overnight likely related to the heating system that led to infrequent sleep interruption. There is an Italian restaurant on premises. Unfortunately, we didn't get to experience their dining experience due to it being fully booked for the days we were there. However, we were told that we could eat their official cuisine at the bar, beginning at 5 PM on a first come, first served basis. We did just that at 510 PM- sat down, ordered drinks and awaited the opportunity to order, but instead, we were informed by the bar tender and maitre 'd that we would not be served for unclear reasons as all others at the bar were being served and even those coming in after us were being served as well. Perhaps it was my sweater or was it my haircut? LOL!

We were let down that the bar and restaurant were closed both days we were there. Limited staff also.

The room we stayed in was comfortable and had a great view from the balcony. The bed was very comfortable. I would have liked more space in the bathroom to put a cup and other things. Also, an exhaust fan would be nice in the bathroom. But it was pretty. The staff were all very gracious. We had a good meal Sunday night in the restaurant and our waiter was very nice. I knew that the restaurant would not be open on Monday and Tuesday, but it would have been nice to have the bar open for drinks on the patio in the evening on those nights.

The inn is a beautifully renovated building. The staff was very friendly, bed was comfortable and having a tavern on site was a plus for us.

The property was beautiful, the hotel was beautiful, the room was beautiful. It appeared to be very clean until I found a used condom in the shower totally turned me off. Mary the night clerk, assisted in cleaning it up. And my stay was Tuesday, October 3 to Wednesday, October 4.

Very well maintained beautiful inn with the size that feels more like a hotel. Comfortable and friendly. The walkway from the parking lot was a little hard to discern but generally I really liked the White House and would happily stay there again.

There was no hot water the first night.. I let the staff know the next day .. the young man immediately checked room availability and offered 3 options.. he also asked if he could help move us The room was clean. The fireplace was wonderful staff was friendly and accommodating

This was a very charming inn and we had a great experience. The staff was friendly. It was clean and tidy. The restaurant on site was fantastic. The only complaint I have is the very early delivery truck noise right outside our window.

Everything was great EXCEPT for an intermittent buzzing sound in the air conditioners. I assume this is a general problem throughout the building. It was true for our two rooms and we heard other people talking about it at breakfast.

Absolutely beautiful! The views, the inn, the rooms, and staff. Came here last minute, and I think we got the best room in the inn. Will definitely be back!

This is a beautiful inn. But my husband experienced no cold water during his shower! During breakfast, we had no napkins, and no server could be found. And to make matters worse, we heard loud footsteps from the room above us ( for 2 hours in the evening and an hour in the morning).

Room was in good condition. Bed was very comfortable. Hot water took a long time to get to the room. Staff was not that attentive and sometimes hard to find. Kitchen ran out of key ingredients, no asparagus Saturday evening, no yogurt at breakfast Sunday morning.

Property is lovely and it’s clear effort was taken in restoration. Sadly, the bed was very uncomfortable and that really is priority one when sleeping away from home.

Beautiful from a distance. Our room was next to a large kitchen fan that was malfunctioning and rattling, with the sound traveling thru the wall into the room. Staff were apathetic, unhelpful and unapologetic.

Very pleasantly surprised. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They accommodated all of our needs.

This was a beautiful property with excellent staff. They were informative, kind, and willing to help in every way. We will be returning very soon. We are very happy we found this gem.

We loved staying at the White House Inn! Staff were so helpful and friendly, and we were impressed by the breakfast. The location is idyllic and the balance of historic details and modern comforts is just right. We were nervous about noise from other rooms (we could hear our neighbor on the phone as if she was standing right next to us) but didn't have an issue sleeping. Can't wait to visit again!

Do not book!! We booked as my daughter was stuck due to road conditions. No one available to let her in. We had to rebook at the Nutmug Inn.

The property was absolutely beautiful, so much excellent attention paid to keeping the majesty of the estate intact, and the proximity to the quaint Main Street area was wonderful!

lousy breakfast

The room that I booked was not available and although we were offered an upgrade....that room did not have the features that the other room had....1st floor patio and fireplace. The 2nd day at breakfast the english muffin I picked had mold on the underside that I did not notice until I cut it for toasting.

The White House Inn offered a lovely stay on a cold evening! The sitting room was magical--beautifully appointed with a blazing fire. The bartender took amazing care of us and was for certain the kindest, most engaged of the staff. We would stay again, but skip Clara's (which was overpriced with mediocre waitstaff).
