Block Island Beach House

The aesthetics and cleanliness of the hotel and outside beach bar were great. Private, quiet pool area that was nicely maintained. Perfect location- just a short walk from the ferry port and close to restaurants and shopping. Would go back to the Block Island Beach House in a heartbeat!

Hotel was in an amazing location, so easily walkable from the ferry and all the main shops/restaurants and bars. They stored our luggage for us until our room was ready (early!) and then when we went to check in our bags had already been brought to our room which was great. We stayed in The Gothic which was a a bit up the street from the main building however I was happier with that because it was definitely more quiet and we were on a ground floor (I'm 6 months pregnant so didn't really want to be walking up and down stairs all day). The only slight negatives was that the ice machine was right outside our room which was loud if people were using it early in the morning, and they do allow non-guests to purchase the beach loungers so there are times when none are available. We loved our stay and would definitely come back!

The location is excellent and the views from the deck are the best. The bars are very nice too, good Bloody Mary. The room upgrades from the old days now have en suite and wall mounted AC and the pricing reflects that. The king bed fills the small room so there's not much space to get around. For the high price, this is not a luxury hotel but very nice for Block Island. The beach area has a lot of broken glass in the sand, so be careful. It would be nice if the personnel working the beach did a morning inspection and picked up whatever glass they can.

Hotel had a private beach. Lounge chairs, umbrellas, and towels were supplied. Hotel also had a pool. It was possible to order food and drink delivered to your lounge chair! Bed was very comfortable. Room was tiny. Staff was friendly and helpful. Hotel allowed use of all the amenities while waiting for room to be ready. Restaurant and bar on premise. Complimentary coffee and water available. We thorough enjoyed our stay.

Really enjoyed their pool. It was quiet and warm. Also enjoyed their beach for hotel guests only. They provided nice lawn chairs. Would stay again.

I stayed at the Gables Poolside King Suite. It was nice to be down the street, next to the pool, in the quieter area. The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance from the ferry and shops, dining, etc.

We liked the location, we liked the parking. The room with a king bed was on 2nd floor and had very little floor space to walk around. The bathroom was supertight, very little floor space between pedestal sink, toilet and shower stall. We also had very noisy neighbors above us. On-facility restaurant and beach were great conveniences.

Kids love pool. Its closed to everything!

Our room was clean and charming, albeit small. We were disappointed that our room wasn't serviced. Despite our best attempts, we tracked sand into the room and, given how small it is we had difficulty not tracking it into the bed and bathroom. We expected better housekeeping service from this hotel.

Clean and comfort

The hotel’s location can’t be beat. It’s a short walk from the ferry and has plenty of restaurants that are within walking distance. The condition of the hotel however is a little run down. We noticed visible mold throughout the property (on the walls behind the surfboards hanging), there was visible water damage (bulging wallpaper/plaster), and the rooms were very small. Keep in mind that although there is an elevator, this is not a true handicap friendly hotel. Overall, the view from our room was wonderful and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

We are dog lovers. We actually thought about bringing our dog. But I have to say, that was one of the things that hindered our happiness at the beach house.the girls both stepped in dog poop didn’t realize it and it was everywhere all over the porch the stairs in our room it was a disaster. The beach was a mess and also had dog poop on it The guy Nicola at the beach was absolutely fantastic and so helpful so I really want to give him kudos. The rooms were not cleaned very well there was popcorn all over the floor in my room and in the kids room was a beer and fishing gear underneath one of the beds. For $1,300 a night I have higher expectations.

The property was clean quiet and very well kept. Food was delicious also. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly.

Everything was great. Need more beach chairs for guests. To many guests get them early then leave beach leaving nothing for the rest of us who sleep in a bit. Should have a sit down breakfast. Paper thin walls at gothic house. Exceptionally clean though.

Updated, clean and convenient

Overall our stay was good. The staff was great. Nice, friendly very accommodating. At first glance the property is really nice. very well appointed. Until you look around and you see it need a serious cleaning and paint refresh. Some porch railings look like they weren't even cleaned before the season began. The pool area is lovely but needs a major cleaning also.

Loved our stay, the property is in a great location and really enjoyed having access to the beach as well as a pool down the street. Check-in was a little bumpy as we stood at the desk for over 10mins before staff appeared to help but otherwise ALL staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. We also did not realize our room was not in the main building but down the road which at first we did not really like but it turned out fine and maybe even better! We definitely enjoyed the privacy of the guest house we stayed in and would not of gotten this in the main hotel. Plenty of parking. The room could have been cleaner as there was a dirty cotton round with makeup on it on the floor in the bathroom but things happen. Will definitely be returning!

The room was so small you couldn’t open the door without hitting the night stand. There were rats outside in the lounging/eating space. Also, the walls were so thin we could hear everything in the neighboring rooms and hallways. It wasn’t a TERRIBLE stay but the experience definitely did not match the price point of the hotel.

The price of over $1k a night with a bed on the floor and a 10 x 10 size room over the bar in a very run down hotel, I would never stay here again

We were assigned a room in The Gables on the 3rd floor. Very steep stairway but our bags were delivered to our room. The room was ridiculously small. One of us had to sit in the bed while the other got showered and dressed. Shower door only opened a quarter of the way before it hit the toilet. Had to turn sideways to walk between the end of the bed and the tv on the wall. Called the front desk this morning to have our bags carried down and let it ring for 15 minutes and no one answered. For a cost of over $1300 for 2 nights, we expected much more. Terribly overpriced!

Noisy & small room rooms

Didn't realize that my room was down the road away from main lodging building. Poor design of room... bathroom tiny, living room tiny and not very useful. Maybe, increase bathroom size and eliminate the useless living room??

Front desk servicewas great. The location was convenient and we liked hanging out back and enjoying the water view. It’s a very, very old building that desperately needs updating. They painted swipes up the walls and added tons of surfboards as their decor (a shortcut to actually updating) The light fixtures are lovely and bohemian and the bathroom was updated but the shower is so small I can’t turn around (5’4”). The room was tiny. The rooms were pricey. Someone else might like it but it was not my cup of tea.

Our room was great with ocean view. Excellent bathroom. And although it rained the entire time we still had a great time.

The staff checking us in were friendly and upgraded us to a room with an ocean view. When we discovered the AC didn't work in our room, they responded immediately and moved us to the room next door - still with an ocean view and a lovely room. The rooms are small but efficient with dresser space and plenty of electric outlets. The bathrooms are spacious and lovely. The hotel has been nicely renovated still retaining the original flavor of the building. It is located on the beach and also in town near restaurants and shops. Housekeeping staff were also friendly and helpful.

Staff were nice. The room was very, very small. Had to walk sideways to get betweem tv and bed. It was uncomfortable. But then again, what do you expect fot $777 per night.

The room was extremely noisy, in a busy part of town, and there were no available quieter rooms. It was also extremely small for what was advertised to be an upgraded suite. You're much better off finding an airbnb or vrbo for the same price.

Staff is amazing. Dedicated to its customers. Shout out to Christi on how she handled our stay. She deserves a promotion. Ryam GM did great as well. Tish and Georgiana at the front desk were friendly, clam, and supportive. We got the wrong room assigned by Expedia, and BIBH had to fix it and well they did the best job they could....however Expedia messed up.

We were underwhelmed from the start. We checked in to 3 agents and since we didn’t pre check in they made us do it on our phone instead of checking us in. They seemed very annoyed we hadn’t done pre check in. They also did not explain any of the amenities (that we were being charged $30 per day for)Then we went to our room that we had spent a great deal on. It was in the basement of one of the off site properties, the gothic house. Room was musty smelling and the floors were so uneven - almost seemed like there were tree roots underneath. The AC unit made noises all night that kept us awake. The price is not worth the stay at this hotel. Book something else and just go to the restaurant for lunch and drinks.

First of all, the staff was incredibly nice and tried to be as helpful as possible. The poor rating was for the fact that we had to carry our bags up two flights of stairs upon checking into the room and the room wasn’t refreshed twice when we asked. This is not the staff fault exactly, it is the result of poor training. The rooms are very small and the overall accommodations are NOT worth the price at all. The stay would have been fine if the rooms had been more reasonable but when you’re paying $650-700 a night for multiple nights, there is an expectation of great service and accommodations.

I told them I had Expedia vip membership and they had no idea what I was talking about. I am also a member of the Lark club but they said bc I booked through Expedia I did not get any benefits. The staff was nice but not at all knowledgeable. The room was supposed to be cleaned but it wasn’t. The outdoor features and free coffee were the best qualities of the property. Just did not seem worth the night room night charge except for location.

Initially, we booked the Oceanview King Suit, and a week before we came we were offered an upgrade to the Gables Poolside King Suit, which we took; we were celebrating our honeymoon. When we arrived, we were given the ADA Suite that is positioned on the street, with a window that overlooks the handicap elevator. Apparently there was a water main break up at the Gables location, but still, this was poorly taken care of. The employees have no idea what’s going on, and they also don’t really appear t care. We asked to speak with a manager right away because it’s unacceptable, especially with no notice or explanation as to why they resorted to give us an ADA room… the bed was at our ankles & we had to squat to look into the mirror and brush our teeth…. We didn’t get in touch with a manager until the next afternoon when she decided to come in (we were told by the staff she would be in at 9am, and we had to stand around waiting for her to be told she wouldn’t be in until later). The manager, McKenna, gave us another room, and this one had broken AC unit. We downgraded our room & no discount?We also had a family enter our room one evening because they were given the keys.. The employees treat you as if you’re a bother, if you don’t wanna work and engage with good customer service, go home. I have never written a review before, but this is warranted considering the experience we had. If we ever come back to BI, we definitely will not be staying with Block Island Beach House.

Amazing stay! Cannot wait to come back. And McKenna at the front desk and Jess at the bar…. Dream team! Made us feel like Family.

Friendly front desk and host staff

No service, tiny rooms and broken bathrooms. Not bad for $650 a night.

We are regular travelers to BI and have always loved the Surf Hotel (BI BH) but never stayed until this time. Everything about the service exceeded expectations. Our room was ready, the online check in expedited our process. The room was immaculate, fabulous shower (which you can almost never say on the Block) - super friendly bartenders, and the guy setting up beach side umbrellas and chairs was incredible in 96 degree heat. The food was great, the check out was super easy- we will always come back.

This hotel is in a perfect location from the ferry landing, the beach, shops and nearby restaurants. We loved our stay.

We have been coming to block island for 20 years and this is our new favorite spot! Amazing staff, beautiful room and you can't beat the location!

Although it’s an old building (which gives it charm), we loved our stay here. It’s a unique experience and the staff were all friendly. The location is perfect since it’s right near ferry and there’s a ton of shops nearby as well as restaurants. The outside of the place has the cutest sitting area over looking the ocean and has outdoor bar(s) as well.

Great location to walk to and from the ferry. Great drinks and food. Cute pool area. Room was clean and comfortable, however, very small. Staff was friendly and accommodating!

The rooms were small but comfortable, the air conditioning worked great, tv was good. 5 minute walk from the ferry which was convenient. Hotel staff was friendly. We unfortunately were awakened three times during our stay by teenagers banging on our door and running down the fire escape stairs to get away. Food at the Surf was great but we didn’t enjoy dining on paper plates with plastic forks. Overall a nice time we spent our days at Ballard’s beach as the water and sand was cleaner.

This hotel was great for the weekend. The room was clean, comfortable and aesthetically pleasing. The location of the hotel itself is in the middle of everything. The main hotel has the restaurant and beach access while most of their rooms are located in what seems to be houses converted into a hotel down the street. The restaurant at the hotel is not worth your time, the food is lackluster and over priced. However the national hotel across the street has a pretty good menu and service. The beach was nice and the attendant was great, just make sure to go early to get your chairs/umbrella they go quick. If you want nice sand clear water and privacy go to mansion beach it’s about 10 mins away from the hotel. Block island was a great weekend getaway with a Caribbean vacation feel without taking a flight.

Gorgeous Inn overlooking the ocean. We went after labor day & it was perfect, no crowds. The food at the hotel was also delicious. I would recommend and stay here again.

Beautiful property, comfortable, clean beachy renovations. Boutique hotel with ocean view and perfect 2 mile beach walk to the bluffs. Outside area for lounging and the beach are excellent. Loved their food- especially the lobster roll. Excellent ambience. Only downside was lack of service in restaurant. Must order from app or walk to the bar - no servers for the tables except to drop off food. But the food was excellent and came quicker than all other restaurants in the area. Would definitely stay there again.

Great location. Friendly staff. Nice lobby. Bar/restaurant had a great view. Comfortable bed. Staircase was a challenge with luggage. Coffee availability on our floor was not as promised. Size of room (small) made it hard to get in or out of door.

Beautiful property that’s located right by the Block Island Ferry — you can be at the beach in < 10 minutes, drink in hand! Really cute space and incredibly accessible. Good drinks and decent food as well.

I absolutely love this location, there's just a few things that need fixing to fit the cost of stay. This is my third stay, and coffee in hallway has been empty by 8am every time. The exterior on room balcony has needed to be fixed and painted for a couple years now. Bathroom door leading to balcony should be covered with something different than breakable shade (maybe frosted glass instead). More hooks in bathroom needed. The bathroom vanity does not allow you to lean over sink to wash your face or brush your teeth -- you hit top of your head on shelf (I love the look, just doesn't work). I miss the welcome gift on bed that used to greet guests (flower honey pops). It was a super nice touch. Our room wasn't ready at check-in time both this year and last. Such a special place to stay, and to pay price, a little more 5-star experience needed.

Pros: perfect location right on Crescent Beach. Lounge chairs and umbrellas available if you get out there early enough. Staff was nice and responded professionally to every interaction. Cons: Pool? Never told there is one & did not see it. I was in the king with balcony first few nights. Shade Missing off the door so people outside could see you showering. Staff at desk was nice and brought up a temporary shade. The balcony is off the bathroom 👎. Room is extremely small. No room to move about. Rug under the bed filthy and tv did not work. (See video of rug. Still pic of rug is what it looks like in the queen room and what it should look like). Ac ran all night even though it was turned to off. Moved to queen with balcony for last night. This room is so much better. Cleaner. Rug looks normal. I wish I was in the Queen whole time as I feel it is a better value and the balcony is where it should be. It also costs a lot less for a better room. Restaurant: for the amount of money we are paying to stay here there should be waiters. Instead you have to order your food at the bar and seat yourself. No water or soda machine for when bar is closed. They could put one outside on their porch or the gravel patio outside. The hotel doesn’t sell bottled water either. I get it. It’s block island. You are paying for location but if you are going to charge the same price as an exclusive resort in the Caribbean there should be improvements. King with balcony video attached.

I love Lark Hotels - this one in particular was absolutely incredible. Having coffee right down stairs with such friendly staff [shout to Sarah & Austin] was a great way to start off the morning. The patio outback was amazing to sit and enjoy after the beach!
