We stayed for three nights with breakfast. Unfortunately I do have some negative feedback but will start with positive; close to the centre, exterior visually impressive and reception area spacious and grand with plenty of seating. Check in was quick with room ready 15 minutes early, there’s a good selection of hot beverages with packets of biscuits in different varieties. However… Internet is absolutely dreadful, I had teenage boys with me and this was a major issue for them, we had a movie night and for the last half hour tv was glitching and pixelating, so disappointing as we had to turn our movie off. Kettle is tiny, has to be unplugged to use. Four lovely big cups but drinks have to be made in twos which means there’s a chance of scalding yourself with steam between making. Very squeaky floors inside our room and outside so if you’re a light sleeper… Room too hot, no air conditioning but no electric fan either. Breakfast - hit and miss, please get a hot drink dispenser. Morning one my mum (like Goldilocks) said ‘too cold’, morning two she said ‘too strong’ and today ‘a long wait and luke warm’. She didn’t like the meat sausages, or the vegetarian ones, her poached egg was hard, she would have liked hash browns and mushrooms every morning and no courgette mix and fried bread alternatives. The whole catering team were friendly and attentive but let down by the cook/chef who was constantly having to be called out from the kitchen, who was flippant and simply ‘going through

Would definitely stay here again despite the hotel being in need of a lot of money spending on it. Very large room. Good walk in shower (needs a safety handle/ rail for walking in and out), terribly tiny sink with nowhere to put toiletries (small glass shelf above like leaning tower of Pisa, needs a spirit level). No fridge. One chair near small tv. Great view and privacy. We were attending a crime book festival nearby hotel. The atmosphere, decor, gloriously old feeling, and the size of the Cairn hotel with its wandering corridors and large ballrooms/ dining rooms put us right there in the right mood. Breakfast was a 5* offering with the best service we've had for a long time. Hot drinks and toast brought to the table was wonderful. Staff totally wonderful throughout our stay, except the 2 men behind reception, when I came back for our luggage, who watched me struggle to get 3 cases from luggage room and out through the foyer with no assistance offered. (A guest took one from me and took out to waiting taxi for me! I could manage the other 2, I am 73 and my 85 year old husband was in the taxi). A very enjoyable stay. Real ale in bar good. We saw people having afternoon tea and it looked far better than Betty's. Scones enormous and delicious (they were on offer at breakfast).

Grest value for money.Room was clean and whilst the hotel rooms are a little dated they were clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful and the free parking is a bonus in tourist magnet Harrogate.
