We recently stayed at the Mitre House Hotel and overall had a pleasant experience thanks to the excellent staff and location. Everyone we encountered at reception, the bar, and restaurant was friendly, welcoming, and very helpful throughout our stay. The hotel itself is charming and full of character, set in a historic building in a lovely Kensington neighborhood. It’s also very convenient for Paddington Station, only about a 5–6 minute walk away (though be careful to use the correct station exit). Our balcony overlooked a beautiful street, although signage recommended not to use it. The included breakfast was adequate with plenty of toast and tea, but it was fairly basic and not what I’d consider a full English breakfast (no sausages and only 1 bacon) The main downside was the layout of family rooms 101/102. The setup is awkward for families with younger children: two separate rooms with two different keys, and both doors spring shut automatically, making lockouts easy. The kids’ room has no bathroom, so bathroom access is either through the main bedroom or via a public hallway entrance, which isn’t ideal. The rooms are also very small, with limited outlets and storage. The bathroom was cramped, with a half shower curtain that easily floods the floor. Overall, the setup may work for families with older children, but I wouldn’t recommend it for younger kids. Also, the lift is very small and slow.
