Center Hotels Skjaldbreid

This is not a good property for people with mobility issues. As you enter the hotel, you must climb up three or four steps and then once inside, you have to climb another four steps to get to the elevator to take you to reception.

Close to everything! Restaurants are plentiful and a good variety. It is a little walk to P3 parking, but very doable. Overall, very nice location and good hotel.

Parking can be difficult

The general hotel and room decor was a bit tired and in need of a refresh. The hotel is also situated on a pedestrianized street, so it's hard to get close to it with luggage from a car.

Older hotel starting to show its age. No parking and no loading/unloading area. We had to park 4-5 blocks away and there happened to be some events going on that closed off some of the streets. We didn’t want to carry all our luggage through the activities, but wanted to check in. The reception desk refused to let is check in because we didn’t have our passports on us (still in luggage in that car) even though we had Real ID licenses. This was the only hotel of 13 places we stayed in Iceland that required passports to check in. Room was basic and the bar across from our room had a live band blasting music until almost midnight.

Property had an excellent location, good breakfast, right in the middle of town. Only negative was you had to go up 3 stairs and then about 5 stairs to get from street level to the elevator level. Had to carry your bags up and down those levels

Property is not as I expected it to be: Not accessible by car as road is blocked off to auto traffic so not easy to navigate if you are physically challenged. Also, there are steps to get into the property and more steps to get to the elevator to get to reception on the second floor. Breakfast is passable for a budget-conscious traveler. Otherwise, location is excellent.

Good location, extremely noisy as there is live music playing one building away. Also there are steps you have to lug your suitcase case up to get to the lift. 3 steps to the entrance and a further few steps.

They have a few stares until you reach the elevator, hard to Cary luggage. The shower was very small Elevator didn’t work a couple of times

As the hotel is on Laugavegur it is on the main shopping street and cultural area of Reykjavik, and very close to the centre with all the main attractions. Staff on reception very friendly and helpful, as were the staff serving breakfast.Room and en suite was clean, plenty of towels, soaps etc, kettle and tea/coffee in the room, and plenty of plug sockets to charge cameras, phones, tablets etc. Some of the rooms overlook Hús máls og menningar (The Old Bookstore) which every evening has a band playing live between 8pm-11pm (free entry, the band is very good!), so if you want an early night you might be disturbed. Although there is a lift to all the floors, there's a few steps to access the entrance from the street, then a short flight of stairs to the lift.

Although the room was very small and the bathroom very tight it was clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location cannot be beat. Plenty of restaurants and shops and pubs right outside the door.

Staff was good. It was nice to have breakfast included everyday. Room was spacious and clean. Hotel was right in the middle of everything. Bus stop #6 is your friend

This is a very no-frills option for staying downtown. As many have repeated, the biggest draw is its location. What I dont see mentioned is just how many hotels are avaliable in the area. There may as well be a hotel on every block of the major downtown area. This option is very basic. Its got small rooms and a breakfast that can barely be called that with a few cold meats, yogurt, and some rotating sliced fruits. No hot options. No microwaves in rooms. Fridge in my room didnt work. Shower took a few tries to figure out how to get hot and had some mold growing in the wall tiles. It was a very small. No bathtub. On the second floor there is some street noise. Not unbearable with closed windows and upper floors may be slightly better. A staff member opened a window without permission or lettind me kbow and one night was extremely loud because of it until i discovered the cause the next morning because the window is covered with a curtain at all times. I personally dont like people messing with my hotel room outside of cleaning so was not very pleased. Others staying on the same floor as me were often louder than the outside noise which was also not great. Overall its an option that puts you close to the center of the city with multiple bus stops but i would probably choose to stay elsewhere for the price and lack of amenities.

I would not recommend this hotel anyone, unless you want to be close to the city's night life and don't mind Spartan conditions. I booked this hotel for one night post-cruise. Our first disappointment was in order to enter the hotel you need to walk up some stairs to get to the "lobby" on the second floor. While there are not that many stairs, if you are carrying luggage, it can be strenuous. Our room was very disappointing. Very small, consisting of a queen bed, desk, and night stands which are in need of an upgrade. Very few electrical outlets to charge our phones. The small bathroom had some mold in the shower. As we were there during a long summer day, the curtains did not keep the daylight out and since we were close to bars, we did not get a comfortable sleep. On a positive note, the front desk attendants were very helpful and pleasant. I don't know how the rooms in the other Center Hotels in Reykjavik are in comparison, but when we passed by them on our sightseeing, their lobbies were larger and more enticing. I would steer clear from this hotel and find other accommodations.

J'y ai séjourné pendant 4 nuits. C'est un hôtel très bien placé et proche de toutes les commodités. Ma chambre simple qui était très confortable, était située au 2ème étage, côté cour donc c'était très calme. Le petit déjeuner est bon et varié. Le personnel est très sympathique et donnent de bons conseils concernant les restaurants et les endroits à visiter.

We have no complaints. The hotel is in the middle of town with numerous places to eat, things to do, and even the Corner Market grocery store. It is only a couple of blocks from Bus Stop #6. Our room was very clean and comfortable, breakfast was wonderful, and the front desk staff were very nice and helpful.

Dette var andre gangen jeg har bodd på dette hotellet. En av grunnene er at det er veldig sentralt og du er midt i mellom alle severdigheter du ønsker. Rommene et romslige, gode senger og veldig bra renhold. Det er litt lytt ut til gaten og til nærmeste nabobar. Men med ørepropper så gikk det fint. Frokosten er enkel men jeg synes den er super da jeg ikke har behov for noe annet. Jeg bor her gjerne igjen.

The room was clean; however, they did not come in the second day and make the bed or check the bathroom for needed towels and amenities that needed checking.

Great staff and location! Staff helped immediately anytime we asked for any help. Clean room, perfect for our week-long stay. Beautiful dining area and breakfast spread. Only issue was our room was across the street from a bar and the band played nightly from 8-11.

There was the Bookshop Bar across the street that stayed open all night. We heard noisy people at the bar and right outside out window, drunk and laughing. One moning they even tried to enter the building - so drunk or drugged out. Never slept because of all the noise. We could not wait to get out of that hotel.

Hotel was good for shopping locations and walking to many sites. Very bad with the nonstop noise/music from the shop right next to hotel. No sleeping for us.

City center/excellent location, room was tiny-2-star room, 2.5 star hotel, 5star location

This hotel could definitely use some updates in its furniture and decor and there was some peeling paint, but nothing major. The elevator is a little slow and malfunctioned once for us which was not great. Centrally located, friendly staff, the room was a comfortable temperature plus front desk staff was able to get us a fan since we like cold sleep. There is quite a lot of street noise so be prepared for that with earplugs or a noise machine if you're not a night owl.

The location can't be beat! I stayed 2 seperate nights. The first night the room was tiny with two small single beds. Was right on main street with no soundproof. The second stat was much better, room was larger with doublebed, back side and quiet.

Large and pleasant corner room with a comfortable bed. Location on a pedestrian street was charming on one hand but too noisy at night for us.

Loved it! Very clean. Excellent location. Nice breakfast. The only issue for me was that the heat was on very high and I had no way to turn it down. It was May and very warm outside, so I roasted in my room.

I like that it was in the heart of the city, and the breakfast was included. I did not like that. There were two sets of stairs necessary to get to the elevator, which wasn’t clear and the hotel description. I chose the hotel because of the elevator, and it was very difficult, lifting suitcases of the steep stairs from the road to the interior of the building and then from the interior of the building to the elevator. Because there was only one small window the room was stuffy because it was warm and there was no air-conditioning. other hotels that I have stayed in in Iceland provide a fan so you can have air movement in the room.

Pablo who was at the Reception desk was absolutely wonderful. He seemed to go out of his way to make sure my accommodations were to my liking. I must say when I first entered my room I felt it was a bit small, And without A/C I felt this wasn’t going to work out, Having a opened window without a screen was to me unacceptable with the fear of flying bugs entering the room. But Pablo assured me I had no worries and he was right. I soon adjusted to the room and found it comfortable and slept well because Pablo accommodated me with a room where The street noise was unheard from my room. It was quite all night. Would I choose to stay here should I ever return to Reykjavik? Perhaps I would. The Breakfast was much better then I thought it would be because I enjoy hash browns and sausage with my Scrambled eggs that most Hotels serve, All that this Hotel didn’t serve, But they did have hard boiled eggs and a decent variety of breakfast items to fill you up for the day. Yes, All in all my stay was much better then I thought it would be from when I first entered my room. And Pablo is responsible for making my stay that much more enjoyable.

Got to hotel and they said they moved us to another property. Something about bed being destroyed days earlier. If they had let us know we could have cancelled and booked something else

We were so grateful for the hotel's offer to store our baggage when we disembarked from a cruise ship early in the morning, so we could enjoy local sightseeing without dragging bags around. Wera was delightful & chatty, as she also did a pre-check-in, while giving us lots of local tips about nearby venues on a map provided by the hotel. Our room 409 was clean & super convenient to lots of venues. The included daily breakfast was more than expected & started each day's exploring on the right foot. We also thoroughly enjoyed the Expedia VIP-bonus of a complimentary drink at the Sky Lounge, which we might have overlooked otherwise.

The receptionist was amazing! We need a room in the quieter side of the hotel after delayed flights. They didn't have any available but she promptly checked with partner locations close by and offered to move us at no extra cost. As it was a bday booking, they were kind enough to ensure that it felt special, and memorable!! Huge thanks to the staff member who helped us out on April 7/8.

Everything was nearby. The different women at the desk were very helpful. Called us cabs and a van to the cruise terminal.

We have no complaints. The hotel is in the middle of town with numerous places to eat, things to do, and even the Corner Market grocery store. It is only a couple of blocks from Bus Stop #6. Our room was very clean and comfortable, breakfast was wonderful, and the front desk staff were very nice and helpful.

The staff was very helpful, especially when we needed them to contact a restaurant and the FlyBus service. The room was spacious and had a nice sitting area. The location was perfect. No complaints whatsoever! Over the last 10 years we have stayed in at least 6 different hotels in Reykjavik. This is our new favorite!

The staff was amazing. Gave us tips, checked us in early, called a taxi for us, and was very friendly. Room was made up nice and it was in the best location.

we enjoyed the facility... however, we were booked into a different area of the hotel and when we arrived we were told we were moved to a Boutique hotel... leaving us to manage our luggage, walking, another number of blocks We would have appreciated knowing that they were moving us ahead of time so that we could have gone directly there.... we were a party of 10 !

The best thing about this hotel is it's location. Right in the walkable area with lots of shops and dining options. Parking was available with a couple of minutes walk. We were very happy with the accomodations.

Very good situation right in downtown. Very quiet as well. Our room was small however very comfortable for a one night stay.

Older hotel on a pedestrian street, one business away from the corner where a taxi can drop you off. There are a few steps to navigate with your luggage to get to the elevator. Reception was very hospitable and allowed us to get into our room around 10AM, 6 hours early because it was ready and available (our flight arrived at 6:30AM). The room was very adequate and clean; beds were comfortable and the breakfast included was great. The location ofthe hotel was right in the middle of Reykjavik and lots of restaurants, bars and attractions were within walking distance as well as many bus stops which were easy pick up points for tours.

This is a lovely hotel! Staff people are very friendly and helpful. Our room was immaculate. We had a corner room (304) with lots of windows and a great view of the activity on the streets below. Many restaurants, shops and attractions are within easy walking distance. We arrived early in the morning following an overnight flight from Chicago. Since our reserved room was already unoccupied, the staff offered us the opportunity to check in early and go directly to the dining room for breakfast. The extra cost of 35 euros was well worth it. The breakfast buffet was simple, with fresh fruits, juices, cheese, sliced meat, cereals, boiled eggs, yogurt, a variety of delicious breads and condiments. We had breakfast six days in a row, and the offerings were identical each time. I would have liked to have some variety in the meat and cheese from day to day; it got a bit old eating the same thing every day. But everything was fresh and plentiful. The dining room, located on the third floor, is bright and cheery, with windows on three sides for a great view. Just for guests' info, I would point out that this small hotel does not have a lobby/common area where guests can hang out. The check-in desk is in a small space on the second floor. Also, there is no bar or restaurant. These are not complaints: I'm just pointing it out because it's different from most hotels which have large lobby areas. We loved this hotel and will definitely stay there again when we return to Reykjavik!

This is right in the middle of the hot area of Reykavik. The only negative i guess for some is noise but I found it ended by 11pm and was quiet. Didn’t even hear my neighbors. The European style breakfast is a nice spread with different condiments and creams and breads and danish. Good selection and staffed well.
