Great stay at Darwin Townhouse. We stayed in one of the garden rooms which was lovely. It had all the amenities needed eg hair dryer, iron, kettle etc. crisp clean sheets and comfy bed. The garden was lovely with seating areas for the nice weather. We bought a bottle of wine from the nearby wine shop and sat on in the garden one night. The breakfast was lovely and plentiful, as was the food at the Loopy Shrew (discounted if you stay in their property). Staff were lovey. The building is just a minutes walk away from one of the main streets but far enough away for a peaceful stay. Would recommend a stay here and would love to bring the family back here to visit the lovely town of Shrewsbury.

A wonderful hotel right in the heart of Shrewsbury. The recommended car park is less than a minute's walk. The hotel is really tastefully themed with lovely homely touches. The breakfast and honesty bar were a highlight!

Lovely townhouse and a nice change formt ehnusyal chain hotels. Super helpful and friendly staff who went above and beyond to. Help with recommendations for dinner. Lovely lounges and the honesty bar was a lovely touch.

Stayed in a single first floor garden room for one night. I have stayed here before and the rooms are always clean and well stocked with coffee bags and tea, and the bathroom toiletries are lovely. The garden rooms are quiet as they are at the rear of the property, so once you’re in your room you should get a reasonable nights sleep. Room 18 has French windows so you can open them and relax in your armchair with a book and cup of tea. Breakfast is good and there’s a lot of choice whether you’re vegan, vegetarian or omnivorous. I would heartily recommend Darwin’s if you’re planning on staying in Shrewsbury.

I booked it for a one-night stay with some friends—the perfect location for exploring Shrewsbury. The rooms are comfy with quirky Darwin-themed decor. They have a well-stocked honesty bar so you can enjoy a drink in the lovely garden or the snug. The breakfast must have been one of the best I have had in a long time and is freshly cooked. Although there is no parking at the property itself there are two car parks close by and we had no problems finding a space. Prices for the car park are very good, especially Abbey Foregate car park. Plus, there is the best gelateria just around the corner.

Great staff and excellent breakfast (with some of the best bacon I have ever had). The location is great and there is paid parking very close (£1:20 an hour) but only pay 08:00-18:00 otherwise free

Lots of healthy or hearty options for breakfast .staff wonderful. Gardens were lovely if only it was summer. Paying car park next to hotel. Plenty of dining places. Rooms were stylish. Definitely a womans touch and thought had gone into the rooms

My visit started with a wonderful welcome by checkin staff who ran out to help me with the door and my bags. They went on to provide a lot of local information to help our stay. And the rest of the stay continued like that. Fantastic breakfast. Fab honesty bar. First class all round

Nice place good breakfast - nice rooms to relax downstairs and in garden. Good staff. Room number 3 was scruffy marks on wall needs a repaint. Very noisy too at night. Water in shower wasnt always hot and slow drainage. TV remote not working and tv very small too. Bathroom layout funny too with high step to toilet. Door after hours locked and was difficult to open. Expected more from room to match downstairs. Good stay overall but not so sure on value for money of room allocated.

I'd stayed here pre-pandemic and booked again for an overnight stay following a meeting in Shrewsbury. Check in was quick and efficient and the staff were really friendly and helpful. I had room 17 which is in the garden annexe building and overlooks the enclosed gardens to the rear of the hotel. The room was reasonably sized and beautifully decorated and the bathroom was clean and well stocked with toiletries. Breakfast was very good, with a vegan/vegetarian selection in addition to the usual fare. Please note that you have to indicate what time you're going to come down for breakfast so that they can make sure they accommodate everyone who wishes to eat! The cafetiere of coffee was very welcome and the cooked Vegan Garden breakfast hit the spot. You're only a 10-15 minute walk from the station and 5 minutes from the town centre, so if you're planning on heading out for food or bars you're in a great location.

We can see why there are LOTS of excellent reviews for Darwin’s Town House. It really is a delightful place to stay. No doubt MOST people are allocated rooms in the main house. And most of those rooms are lovely! The free breakfast is excellent and the staff are lovely. Unfortunately, we were allocated one of the ‘not so good’ rooms in garden area. Read a few 1 star reviews to get my gist. It was awful! Grubby looking grey carpet, thin walls, you could hear ALL the bathroom activities from the room above. Not nice. A very dispiriting experience where you can feel your heart sink. But, as luck would have it! We were reallocated another room at the top of the main house! OK, it meant climbing up two steep, winding stairways but (albeit we are in our mid seventies) we managed it fine. Especially with the help of Daisy, a truly lovely member of staff and an absolute credit to the B&B. However, one can’t help but think about what other poor unsuspecting souls might be allocated the room that we were initially allocated. On departure we attempted to mention this concern to the manager/owner of this establishment. Like the descriptions of others in the one star reviews her response was deeply unpleasant. Do read the 1* reviews they are telling the truth. And one was an absolute tonic to read because his description was so much in a similar vein to ours but expressed in such a way it made me laugh for a good five minutes. So, problem now solved for us. We won’t go there again.

Lovely place to stay, our room was on the small side and the bathroom door didn’t close properly, but overall really enjoyed our stay. Location is great!! Breakfast was good, only complaint would be that my poached eggs were over done, but the homemade granola was excellent and made up for it 😀

Great location. Lovely decor. The staff were very friendly. The WiFi wasn’t great, which also affected the use of some TV channels. The room was lovely however the sound proofing wasn’t great, could hear the people in the room above from the early hours.

What a super hotel. Never stayed in an octagonal room before but it gave the feeling of space. Nicely furnished throughout with plenty of nods to Darwin. Comfortable bed. Breakfast was superb, both for selection of options and friendliness of staff. I haven't had better anywhere (including in a lot of foreign travel!). One small and insignificant point: Our bed/room was adorned with 6 pillows and 10 cushions of varying sizes. Possibly excessive!

Darwins townhouse is a lovely place to stay. We loved all the quirky references to 'the origin of species'. Our room was small but perfectly adequate gor our one night stay. Breakfast was excellent and the staff were very friendly and attentive. We were on the front of the building which meant there was a lot of noise from people until quite late, we had the window open because we stayed on the hottest day of the year! Although, a fan was provided to try to help cool the room it was still extremely warm in the room. Overall we loved staying here and will be back at some point.

We loved the styling of the hotel and the room we stayed in was comfortable. Breakfast also great. My only reason for a 4 star over a 5 star was the noise from the street did carry up so I had to wear ear plugs to sleep. Bit noisy inside too when people were coming back in on the evening too. Other than this, we found staff very friendly and loved the theme.

Great location, lovely hotel, great breakfast, friendly service. Our room was a bit hidden away and quite small with low ceilings, but it had charm, and I think it was the last one left.

Staff were very friendly, we had our dog and although he was not allowed in the main eating area, the team accommodated an ensured we had breakfast delivered to our room. Breakfast was great and good quality food. Very lovely hotel and great location, definitely recommend

We very much enjoyed our stay--this is a great location and the rooms were very nice. We very much appreciated the staff's willingness to help us check in a little late and for staying around to give us some great recommendations for our stay.

The breakfasts are great, the rooms cozy and comfortable, but the standout thing about the place is the friendliness of the staff. Julie - this even includes you!!! (In truth, especially you!). This was our second visit and won't be our last!

Lovely, helpful staff. Very caring and highly accommodating for my needs (I am disabled). The garden room was fabulous. Comfortable, clean, beautifully designed. What a fabulous place to stay. I highly recommend staying here.

Really excellent! Stay a couple of times now and always really love it, proper look forward to my visit. Everyone is super friendly, the place is really well looked after and decorated and makes for a fun stay. They leave water by ur bed and have an honesty bar you can use if wanted. The breakfast was really nice and the room super comfy. Thanks for another amazing stay!

My visit started with a wonderful welcome by checkin staff who ran out to help me with the door and my bags. They went on to provide a lot of local information to help our stay. And the rest of the stay continued like that. Fantastic breakfast. Fab honesty bar. First class all round

We can see why there are LOTS of excellent reviews for Darwin’s Town House. It really is a delightful place to stay. No doubt MOST people are allocated rooms in the main house. And most of those rooms are lovely! The free breakfast is excellent and the staff are lovely. Unfortunately, we were allocated one of the ‘not so good’ rooms in garden area. Read a few 1 star reviews to get my gist. It was awful! Grubby looking grey carpet, thin walls, you could hear ALL the bathroom activities from the room above. Not nice. A very dispiriting experience where you can feel your heart sink. But, as luck would have it! We were reallocated another room at the top of the main house! OK, it meant climbing up two steep, winding stairways but (albeit we are in our mid seventies) we managed it fine. Especially with the help of Daisy, a truly lovely member of staff and an absolute credit to the B&B. However, one can’t help but think about what other poor unsuspecting souls might be allocated the room that we were initially allocated. On departure we attempted to mention this concern to the manager/owner of this establishment. Like the descriptions of others in the one star reviews her response was deeply unpleasant. Do read the 1* reviews they are telling the truth. And one was an absolute tonic to read because his description was so much in a similar vein to ours but expressed in such a way it made me laugh for a good five minutes. So, problem now solved for us. We won’t go there again.

A wonderful hotel right in the heart of Shrewsbury. The recommended car park is less than a minute's walk. The hotel is really tastefully themed with lovely homely touches. The breakfast and honesty bar were a highlight!

Everything about darwins townhouse was superb. Rooms lovely, sevice lovely, especially from the young girl serving us at breakfast (blonde ponytail) sorry, didnt get her name. The honesty bar is also a lovely touch. Thankyou, we will be booking again.

Great staff and excellent breakfast (with some of the best bacon I have ever had). The location is great and there is paid parking very close (£1:20 an hour) but only pay 08:00-18:00 otherwise free

We had a lovely stay! Everything was great from start to finish. The staff were all polite, friendly and helpful. We thought our room was gorgeous and the bed was super comfy. All the attention to detail throughout the property is fabulous. Breakfast was fantastic, lots of choice with something for everyone. The honesty bar is a really lovely touch as well as we got in late from a meal and decided to have one last drink before bed. We would love to stay here again

Lots of healthy or hearty options for breakfast .staff wonderful. Gardens were lovely if only it was summer. Paying car park next to hotel. Plenty of dining places. Rooms were stylish. Definitely a womans touch and thought had gone into the rooms

Great location within walking distance of the shops, restaurants and sights of the town with paid parking available just around the corner. Fabulous room and a lovely garden to sit out in of an evening. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was freshly cooked and absolutely delicious.

Lovely stay that ticked every box. The room was comfortable and very homely. Check-in was really easy and the room was ready early. We took the breakfast option and it didn't disappoint. You could just tell all the ingredients were quality and the service was too. Would definitely recommend staying and I'm sure we'll stay again in charming Shrewsbury.

Perhaps one the best hotel breakfasts I've had, the breakfast menu was fantastic and the bacon was to die for. The staff at reception and in the dining room were lovely. The room was clean and tidy. It was a single so a little small and wherever you put the chair it was in the way. But great place, great location. Will definitely be back.

Lovely welcome and very cute little hotel. Room was well appointed, clean and comfy. No parking but being in a pedestrian zone made all the difference with just distant traffic noise.
