Last minute booking as forecast wasn't good.Lovely little cottage, easy to find with the directions.Everything we needed there, and good local info in the info pack.Note one pub didn't serve food on mon and tue night and the other happened to be closed while we were there. But lots of choice for take away in the local towns 10min drive away.

We stayed as a family of 3 over the New Year period, and the cottage was everything we needed. For what we paid for 7 nights, I would say it was good value for money. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook family meals, and was great having a dishwasher and washing machine to use. The living room was very cosy, and having the wood burner was a brilliant bonus. The livingroom was decorated lovely for Christmas and added that extra cosy feel. The bedrooms were of good size, and the beds were comfortable. Plenty clothing storage space too. There was no tv in the bedroom, which disappointed our teenage son as he had to share the living room tv with us, so a small tv in the single room would be a brilliant addition for families. The bathroom was ok, shower could be a bit troublesome but once we worked out how to keep the pressure on, we had no issues. The cottage is a great base for exploring York and other villages by car, however nothing is really within walking distance. There is a village inn about 2 mins walk from the cottage, however we did not visit, and a stunning church which is worth visiting. Overall, a lovely stay and would return.

Stayed 3 nights

Really lovely cottage which was exactly what we were looking for. It was well equipped and the beds were very comfortable. The cottage is within striking distance of both York and Harrogate which gave us enjoyable days out. The staff at the local Oak Tree Inn pub were very welcoming and the food and atmosphere were second to none. The only negatives about our stay was the remoteness of the cottage and total lack of any shop (apart from a butchers) in the village. The cottage is on the main road and the traffic through the village was a tad noisy at night, especially given the warm nights requiring the windows being open. For these two reasons we have deducted a star for location and area.

York is home to this cottage. Aldborough Roman Site Museum and Rural Arts are cultural highlights, and some of the area's activities can be experienced at Boroughbridge Marina and Aldwark Manor Golf Club. The Dutch House and Thirsk Leisure Centre are also worth visiting.
