Stayed here 5 nights. Great stay! Rooms are clean and have that cabin in the woods feel. Short walk to lodge for dining (great restaurant) and shopping. Then in the park lots of things to do. Hike, bike rides (bring your own) , swim in pool, float in the river. Drive down hwy1 for more hiking and eating.

Everybody was very nice and helpful. Location in the park with access to two other parks was unbeatable if you want to get away and detach from it this is your place. No TV and spotty coverage and no microwave in room. So low on amenities but high on quiet peaceful.

The cabin was clean and quiet. One of the beds is out in the living area, so minimal privacy. They were adamant about their 4 pm check-in time. The restaurant had a lovely menu posted on the outside, but when you went into the restaurant, about half the items were unavailable. Fortunately we had brought our evening meal. I would advise this for longer stays. We were only there one night, so it did not seem worthwhile to build a fire in the fireplace. They do provide wood and a fire starter.

Only one parking spot per room. The WiFi is horrible prepare accordingly. The room was beautiful and clean. The staff was very friendly and polite. The property is super beautiful and close to hikes. Definitely will stay again!!!

This is IN the state park. It feels like being at camp amongst the redwoods. For T-Mobile, cell signal is mostly miss. I also had trouble getting the wifi to work except in the main building where we check in. There is a restaurant offering all meals. There is a mini-fridge and hot water pot with coffee "tea" bags. The room is spacious and has a balcony looking into the forest. There's a swimming pool. Yes, I would stay here again.

We loved our stay at Big Sur Lodge. The property was so peaceful and beautiful. The room was large, clean, and comfortable. It was an older property but well maintained. The bathroom was a little dated but it was clean. We would definitely stay here again.

Bed was comfortable and the room adequate. Free fire wood was left each day for the fire place The trails were in excellent condition and plainly marked. The issues were dirty carpets, it had spider webs and cobwebs, there were dead bugs and dirt in the corners of the floors, the bathroom and vanity area needed a remodel, and if you are over six feet the shower will be a challenge, Restaurant was only open from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm and you had to go to the counter to order your food which is advertised differently on their website. Parking near the lodge is limited. Check-in is at 4:00 pm but not before. People started cuing up near 4:00 pm. There was only one person at the registration desk which delays your time to check in. All the Information for the park and lodge is in the hand out material but they need to remind the guest there is no smoking in the park due the fact there were guest smoking. We guess they believe guest would read the material. There are a great number of dogs in the lodge.

The location you can't beat yet the state of the rooms was pretty poor. The floor in the unit was extremely dirty and hadn't been cleaned in I don't know how long. I let me children walk around in the room barefoot for about an hour and their feet were literally black from all the filth on the floor. I can say the same for the bathrooms as there was hair and grime all over the shower that was not our own. I would say that would be my biggest concern The amenities provided inside the main lodge were great and they had nice places to eat, get snacks, and souvenirs which was a great touch. If only the rooms matched the main lodge.

Unfortunately our cottage(#14) was extremely dirty. The only blanket you get on the bed is a sheet. The one positive of this place is where it is located. The setting is absolutely beautiful. My family was disappointed our cottage was so dirty and run down, because the trails and location at Big Sur are wonderful.

This lodge needs a major renovation especially restrooms. The restroom smells like mold and shower panels have black mold along the caulking. Room #46. Restroom door, frames and overall wood bases had many scratches including peeled paint. Shower curtain smells bad. We decided not to take shower. For Room #5, similar conditions.

Beautiful property, excellent check in, helpful, kind. Lovely redwoods and trails! Our 2 bed cabin was great, comfy beds and linens and towels. We aired out smoky smell from fireplace. It cleared with open windows and fan. Bathroom needs fresh paint but roomy size and sink out of bathtub area which is nice. Cabin 19 🙂

First of all check in was pretty late, 4pm instead of 3 like most places. We booked 2 suites and honestly, it’s a waist of $$. I should’ve go for the regular 2 queens, the view was way better with a big glass slide door. Ours has a door with 2 standard windows and old blinds that doesn’t work properly in both rooms. The blanket in my kids room had dirty dry stain on it, I don’t think they even wash it, that’s why the dry stuff was still there. My room had reddish brown spots splattered on the wall by the toilet and also on the picture frame in the wash room. WiFi was terrible and almost non existent in most rooms so if you want to disconnect from the rest of the world, this place is for you. As for me, all I need is to be able to communicate with my kids without having to walk over to their room and knock. But of course there was no other way. The perks, we have entries to multiple parks.

Filthy dirty rooms, carpets, and furniture. Windows falling out of their frames. Rooms wreaked of fireplace smoke. Frame around shower was rotting away. No sign any maintenance has been done since the place was first built. Was so bad we left and drove to another hotel.

The location is unbeatable, you are right in the middle of the forest, completely immersed in Big Sur. The cabins are comfortable and clean. Construction is outdated but this is not unexpected in a place like this. Staff is responsive and friendly.

There is not much internet in Big Sur, but I had to go to their conference center to get wifi which was a pain. It’s cold at night and only 1 heater in the cottage. Other than that it was reasonably priced for a cottage with a deck.

I really like the Big Sur area. My first time staying here. So cool to sleep in the Redwoods. Hotel needs to buy some pads for the beds. Like a lucid or something. Very uncomfortable bed.

Assigned parking, BIG room, great heater and hot water in the bathroom, refrigerator and electric kettle in the room and so many wildlife near the cabins… even we had balcony….. a great place inside the park… great find for us! Loved it… no WiFi in the cabin and phone connection is almost zero for AT&T…

Nice and helpful staff. Room was basic and dated but clean. Room was incredibly hot upon arrival but had AC unit and fan in closet- took a long time to cool room down. Wifi doesn’t work in room but good in lodge. Overpriced food at restaurant but that seemed to be the norm in the area.

The rooms could use upkeep. The blinds didn’t fully close due to an electric AC which needed a hose to come out of the window. Realistically, there was no privacy due to it.

Property is in a nice woody environment, close to nature. However room can be quite cold during this time. There's only 1 small heater, while e fireplace cannot warm up e unit fast enough. Water heater is not fast enough to warm up water.

We arrived late for check in so our keys were left taped to our door which was fine. The cabin was clean. The beds and pillows weren't great. What disappointed us the most was the lack of knowledge and help available to find the sights. I was told several times just look for the trail head... or I don't know, you'll have to go back to the lodge... Which we did and there was zero help there either. One important thing to know is the wifi doesn't work there so make sure you download any and all maps of areas you want to see. We never found the trail head to the waterfall and the beach was overcrowded so we didn't get to see it either... Eventually, we just decided to move on to our next destination. We did enjoy the River Inn Restaurant located down the road from Big Sur Lodge.

It's important to note that due to the closure of PCH, and the other weather issues the area has had to endure, that Big Sur is struggling on a lot of levels. The Lodge was severely understaffed and the staff that was there was surly and defensive when approached. It made the stay difficult to manage. Again, I understand the issues the area is dealing with, however this was one of the busiest weeks of they year so there should've been better prep on the part of the management. Mason was helpful but we are still waiting to hear back from him (or anyone at the lodge) about the adjustment made to the last night of our stay. Please let us know if you read this. Praying that Big Sur recovers fully and we'll continue to visit and support as this is a very special place to my family and I.

Our cabin was fabulous, the in room coffee was sparse and weak and staff is difficult to find to ask for more coffee for our cabin. Not being able to communicate to staff (phone) is a pain in the neck. The front desk staff has NO knowledge about anything in the camp and was not able to answer any questions about anything. We had questions about the campfire talk that takes place at 8:30 pm on Saturday nights and if we could park in the day use area for this event but front desk staff knew nothing about it nor about if the day use parking would be open at that time. Upon arrival on Thursday, there was no parking due to an event happening at the lodge - when we asked if we could park up by the cabins or the pool until check-in we were told we were not allowed to do so.

We arrived on Monday, June 23 for a 5 night stay. We were given a unit next to an active construction site. Backhoe and Bulldozer and large construction trucks starting at 7:45 AM or so and going all day, every day. Not what I had in mind when paying to stay at the Big Sur Lodge. Also found out the onsite restaurant has about 80% of it's menu unavailable. They did have 2 salads, a burger and a pasta dish - and that's it. Neither of these issues was mentioned when I booked, or anytime prior to arrival. The gas heater in the unit didn't work, and the temporary electric heater would pop a breaker any time we tried to run the electric kettle to heat water. Also the wifi only worked at the Lodge. We bought some T-shirts and when we tried to return one were told store credit only. There was signage anywhere in the store providing notice that refunds were not available - I'm violation of CA civil code 1723. I mentioned this to the staff and the manager and was told this was their national corporate policy, regardless of CA law. Big Sur is beautiful and this site is an amazing asset - but it is being operated very poorly and without concern for the guest experience nor CA law.

We stayed one night. The hotel was prepaid and booked on Hotels.com. But, we were charged again but the hotel for the room. Three calls to the hotel later and still no return call from the manager regarding the over charge. Very dissatisfied!

The Big Sur Lodge is a beautiful and convenient site for touring parks and taking trails. The map and recommended to-do list at check-in are super helpful. Remember to check the status of Highway 1, as there is always some construction going on.

Big Sur Lodge definitely did not disappoint and we will be back very soon! We enjoyed the convenience of staying in the middle of the park and waking up to the fresh air of the forest around us. Walking outside our door to the beginning of a new hike everyday was an experience we will never live down! Pfeiffer Beach was our favorite part of our trip and we were so fortunate it was so close to the lodge. All in all 5 out of 5.
Big Sur Lodge definitely did not disappoint and we will be back very soon! We enjoyed the convenience of staying in the middle of the park and waking up to the fresh air of the forest around us. I loved the Big Sur Lodge. It is in the heart of Big Sur. It is extremely situated convenient part of Big Sur. Close to the Big Bear Bakery and lots of great restaurants with breathtaking views. I loved the room, shower, bathroom. Each room has its own parking and you can walk to Pfeiffer park and they have gorgeous trees, river, bridges. I will totally come back to this hotel with my family.

Big Sur Lodge room was very good like in March 2025 but the Quality as well as the portion of the food(Amount of food quantity in a plate) has gone down in just last 3-4 months so reducing one star.

The restaurant inside Big Sur Lodge was really not very tasty. The French fries were too wet with oil and the onion fries were all melted. And the hamburger patties was smelly. Too expensive for the tasteless food. And the website said the Wi-Fi worked, but it never did. So, you had to go to the office or conference room, and if an employee was using it, you had to wait a long time to use it. Except for the kitchen unit, there isn't even a microwave. The refrigerator is too small to store food, so it can only accommodate drinks. A large family would have to pay more than $50 per person for each meal. I would never recommend this place to my friends.

Great stay at Big Sur Lodge! The room was convenient for our family of 4 to have space and sleep comfortably. We only had one night, so appreciated the rest located to the park and trails. Free access into the park was a nice touch as well! Restaurant was amazing - both the food and location above the river were great. We enjoyed the rib eye, salmon pasta, and the beet salad. We enjoyed a little river walk after dinner. Will be back!

Nice and helpful staff. Room was basic and dated but clean. Room was incredibly hot upon arrival but had AC unit and fan in closet- took a long time to cool room down. Wifi doesn’t work in room but good in lodge. Overpriced food at restaurant but that seemed to be the norm in the area.

Parking was easy, right outside the cabin. Restaurant had good food, but plan on spending longer than usual for the eating experience because of having only 1 server. The servers were pleasant, professional, friendly, but just not enough of them during busy times.

Big Sur is unparalleled and Pfeiffer State Park is one of Big Sur’s jewels. The facility could use some updating, and the dining area is beautiful but the restaurant is a bit disappointing. However, there are options available and I feel guilty about pointing out flaws in paradise. I’d return in a heartbeat.

The cabins are very old, not rustic but old. They have not been maintained very well. The carpeting is very old and dirty, bring slippers. The bathrooms need updating. The wall paint was pretty fresh but they hadn't fixed what was leaking, they just painted over it. The staff was nice. No breakfast but at the lodge they had a small restaurant. No in room microwave or refrigerator. You had to go to a central building by the pool for the microwave and ice. They did have a coffee/tea station in the room. Also No WiFi conection except in the building where the microwave and ice machine was. No Bar. BYOB. Small gift shop with a few snacks and wine and some camping gear. Not a 5 star hotel.

It is more expensive because of the cost to get food in there, which is understandable. Rooms are spacious and clean. Lots of great marked trails nearby for hiking.
