Carlyle Inn

I arrived at the location and was given a room on the first floor. I walked to the room and found the door to be cracked open. I tested the door and confirmed it was open and dark inside. I was not comfortable going inside. There was an employee serving alcohol just steps away from this room. I asked him about it and he just told me to go back to the front desk. I go back to the front desk where I was told it was safe neighborhood but they would call someone to go in the room with me. The person they were calling was the guy serving alcohol which I told them he wasn’t helpful and come to find out he didn’t have a walkie talkie. The front desk employee went to the room with me, she was even hesitant to go inside. Once inside and the lights on, found out the room was going through maintenance. Went back to the front desk and was moved to another room, everything at the front desk too a long time as well. I had to stand there each time for about 20-30 minutes. I get to my new room and the room was adequate. Parking in the structure is strange and you can be blocked in if you end up in the second row. I had to park in handicap one night because all the regular spots were taken. The area around the hotel is not very nice but that is LA for you. I probably wouldn’t stay here again but it’s not the worst place I’ve ever stayed. Also, i was there for 4 nights and never got a cleaning service the whole time, might have been an error on my side when at the front desk checking in.

It’s unfortunate that the rooms don’t have a microwave. This hotel has been undergoing remodeling construction for some time. This was my second stay in the past six months. Can’t really fault the noise for that, but the properly is decent and it’s around the corner from where my daughter lives. It’s been very convenient.

Cute boutique like hotel with a younger people vibe. Clean and quiet in the evenings. Needs new elevator… it is old and bounces around a lot in fact I was stuck in it the day I was checking out. They opened it fairly quick and waived the extra fees they normally tack on at checkout. Please note then when entering their garage which is gated and they open for you that your car is not near the gate as it opens outward bottom up and your car can be damaged. I would stay here again.

Interior public spaces feel safe and private. Nice outdoor seating on multiple levels.

This hotel is excellent if you want a comfortable bed and a place to base yourself. No frills. The construction was happening in the courtyard but we didn’t hear anything. They gave us comp free drink for happy hour. Coffee bar in the lobby is nice. Staff friendly. Recommend for a good night sleep after a day filled with activity.

It was not bad but could be better in many areas such as gym and adding a shower curb.

The hotel did not match the photos shown on Hotel, worn down and cheap finishes. I chose the horel partly because they had a fitness room; it was a very small space, more like a fitness closet.

The front desk on April 6 and 7 (two different people) were both just as apathetic and lacking customer service. I asked for a receipt and I didn\'t get one, they didn\'t have water ON THE PROPERTY for me to purchase, their front desk phone doesn\'t work and their email bounces as "incorrect". I asked for 2 bathrobes that were delivered OPEN and in hand. Disgusting. The website did not mention any repairs being done on the property - their whole lounge/ garden area was closed and there was no care for appearance. Pooe wifi signal. When we checked out, the clerk was not there, but he had left a woman who did not speak English at the front desk. It was a waste of money. No breakfast included (we knew that, but they weren\'t offering any for purchase either), the room smelled stale, the carpet in our room was so dirty, and the pillows were lumpy.

Good value for surrounding area. Free coffee and daily beer/wine happy hour were a plus. Gym was the size of a small bedroom and not very conducive to working out. Otherwise, rooms were clean and staff friendly.

The property was much older than pictured, and the room was not well maintained. Both the shower curtain and the curtains in our room were ripped and hanging and our room had tons of ants. On the positive side, the beds were fairly comfortable.

The staff was very nice and helpful when in room safe was not working. Room was clean but not in good repair. Faucets lose painted furniture chipping It was very convenient to where I had to go.

It is a cute hotel. Rooms are nice but beds are creaky. Our first room was stuffy and then when fan was on it was like a wind storm. We extended for medical tests and moved rooms. That room had ants. We returned from dinner with ants on the bed and in bathroom. Luckliy they had another room. The other solution was to spray our room right before we were going to sleep (unacceptable.) Our 3rd room did not have hot water. It was fixed by 9:30 PM . Just between a long day, ants and not hot water when I wanted to shower, it was frustrating. Staff is very nice and do their best to resolve problems. Unfortunately, "garden room" was under construction and made for lots of extra noise starting at 8 am. Windows in rooms need to be better. You can hear the sirens from the street all night.

I prefer a local boutique neighborhood hotel to a chain, and The Carlyle Inn delivers that experience. The Robertson-Pico neighborhood is a lively area of LA bordering on Beverly Hills. A well-maintained property overall, the room was spotlessly clean, and the king bed very comfortable. The front desk is staffed 24 hours a day. I received free self-parking as a VIP bonus. Tip: use the bath mat when showering; the tub was very slippery.

I discovered the first morning after sleeping in the bed that it had dirty sheets.

Room smelled like it was previously flooded. There was moisture on the floor and the beds have no idea why. Gave it a very dingy and old smell was not pleasant.

The room was clean and the staff was really friendly. Such a cute small hotel. I would recommend this place

My stay at the Carlyle Inn was great for the price. Staff was friendly. They have parking at $30 a night but I used street parking with meter. There is a Walgreens within walking distance and good places to eat. Try “Pizzeria Sei” so delicious. No microwave available in room only in lobby.

The pictures are quite misleading. The property is much older than it looks in the photos and the rooms were very small

The hotel is lovely, overall clean and conveniently located to shopping/dining area. The rooms are nice but somewhat outdated. The extra charge for early/late check in/out is probably an LA thing but i did not appreciate it. I've traveled in many places around the world and this is the first time i was asked to pay for early check in. I understand why but it adds to the bill. The main problem with my room was that it was not really sound proof which made it difficult to fall asleep. I heard people walking in and out in the lobby, talking and taking showers in the room next to me. To provide a decent place to rest at night is one of the functions of any hotel. It was lacking and Carlyle and that's why i gave it 3 stars plus the outdated interior. The service desk person was very nice and welcoming.

The staff and room were very nice! The shower water was very hot which is a big plus in my books! The only issue was that throughout the night lots of sirens were head from the street which woke us up a few times. If not for that, I would have given them the full 5 stars.

Nice staff, safe location. However, the room (at least our room) had one of those shared doors. You could hear every word the neighbour was saying and they were not yelling. You could also smell what they were eating or doing.

The main issue is that they falsely advertise wi-fi when their internet doesn't work at all. The wi-fi login page wouldn't load for us the first day after countless retries. Reception said to keep trying, so they weren't much help. On the second day I was able to connect once, but the wi-fi speed was abysmal at < 10 mbps which made it useless. Also this hotel is clearly a converted apartment from the 70s that has received the landlord's paint special over the years; it's overdue for a renovation. They should start with sound insulation by replacing the windows and doors because it sounds like they're not even there.

U hear every voice in the hall, thuds every time someone walks above or next to u, super loud a/c and in general a pretty depressing place. My search for a fairly priced room in LA that’s nice where one can actually sleep continues. This isn’t it. Only positive is the free parking however the multiple signs reading “Not responsible for loss or damage to vehicles” made me wonder how safe the parking garage is. Guess I’ll find out shortly.

I've stayed here a few times and it's always perfect for just getting a nights rest. They were closed for awhile doing updates but I didn't see much change. I'd stay here again, however our room, 102, had the most annoying fan of all time and made it very hard to sleep. The bathrooms needs some major updating but the rooms are comfortable.

I don't normally write reviews but am making an exception in this case. The Carlyle Inn is under construction - of course, no prior notice from either Expedia or the Inn - so you are greeted with yellow caution tape and sheet-rock or plywood barriers to most of the public areas upon arrival....and the Inn is small. The bed was comfortable and the staff pleasant enough, if not totally competent. For instance, upon checking in, they inform you that you will be charged $22-$25 a day for house-keeping and services, but you have to specifically request house-keeping. I asked that I get house-keeping throughout my 3-day stay; that request never made it to the next day, and there was no one else checking in when I did who might have confused the attendant. And they offer Happy Hour and a voucher for a free drink; when I went, there was no bar, no bartender and no quests. I returned my voucher. The 3 star rating that they have is generous and there pricing more than fully reflects their LA/Beverly Hills zip code. My advice if you are thinking of staying there, especially while they are under construction...don't.

Check in was late because of a system failure

This was an absolute NIGHTMARE. I checked in with Morgan after a long flight from the east coast, she told me she could accommodate an early check-in for $25 per room. After paying the fee she gave me the key cards to the 2 rooms on the 2nd floor. We shared a small elevator up with a maintenance worker and their cart. At the 2nd floor we saw there is no internal hallway. Motel set up. We enter the first room and it had a heavy smell of mold, forcing one to breathe out of their mouth. I left the room with my belongings and headed to the second room - hoping that it was just the room and I could ask for a new one. But, the second room was just as bad. I returned to the front desk, within 10 minutes of receiving my key and explained that I wouldn’t be able to stay and requested a refund. Morgan said they couldn’t help me. I asked for the manager, she said they weren’t there. I asked if she could get them on the phone, she said no. She then went to a back room and came back with a piece of paper that had the email address of the general manager they called “Oscar”. I left the facility. Emailed Oscar, called Expedia, and American Express. Expedia tried for 3 days to get the manager on the phone. They never responded. This is the worst experience I have ever had. BEWARE!!!!

Great location!!! Close to Beverly Hills, close to major museums, close to great & diverse restaurants. Check-in was awkward. Clerk announced - 45 min after check-in time the room was not ready. Not what you want to hear. Then he said it was probably ready and would I mind going to the room to check which I did - a first for me. The room was ready and it was a nice room with an extremely comfortable bed, plenty of towels - a big plus - and really nice bodycare products. I felt well taken care of by this property!

My stay was great. East check in. Friendly staff. My only gripe would be i was Accidentally charged the $50 deposit fee twice. I now have to wait for $100 to fall off my account in 3-7 business days.

Had to pay for parking, but plenty of spaces available when we were there in early March. Great location about a block off West Pico near many kosher restaurants and markets.

In my opinion, the location is the best thing about this hotel. The Carlyle is close to lots of synagogues, which is the main reason why we stayed here for Shabbas. It's also close to lots of restaurants, Beverly Hills, shopping, and is centrally located to many tourist attractions. Garage parking is convenient, but it's $30/day. The room was ok. My husband and I found the bed to be a bit soft. The bathroom floor felt like it was on a major incline. You can tell the place is old, but has been updated a bit over the years. No breakfast is included, but they give you a couple of coupons to local places, which we didn't get a chance to try. The room has a Keurig, which my husband and I appreciated.

This was a great place to stay in Mid Wilshire. It was centrally located and easy to catch nearby buses to city attractions. The hotel is undertaking some renovations, which will make it even nicer.

My only complaint is the sneaky last minute fees they tack on, there is no need for a $22 cocktail hour especially for people who don’t want to drink but still have to pay that fee.

Has a great, inviting courtyard. Staff, especially Mason, at the front desk were extremely helpful and accommodating. We have stayed here a few times and have always enjoyed the comfortable beds, the happy hour and the walkable neighborhood.
