Hampton Inn & Suites San Clemente

We arrived ready to use the pool only to find it was complete empty of water.

Pool out of service and that was not stated anywhere. Plus you can’t even use the lounge chairs by the drained pool. The entire area is closed.

I was not happy with the $22 parking fee for each car. That made the room $44 more expensive that listed. Good breakfast. Comfortable beds and pillows compared to other experiences.

First, the pool is not heated and tiny and the spa was not working. The room we were given was extremely dark. The carpet was dirty and old, we didn’t want to walk barefoot on the carpet it was that bad. The furniture is oddly arranged. Our beds were against the hallway wall next to the elevator and you can hear every person that walked by. The bathroom ceiling was peeling off, the bathroom light switch was almost impossible to turn on and off because it was difficult to use the switch. The bathroom tub/shower was dark and dirty around the edges, no one would use the shower. We were disgusted. To make matters worse, there was a party two doors down and finally at 1:00 AM I had to complain to the front desk about the noise. When I exited the room, the entire hallway smelled disgusting, a dank, wet, dirty smell. The employee helped to quiet down the noise so my family was actually able to fall asleep after 1:00AM. We chose to check out the next day instead of stay for another night as we reserved. We were told we would receive a phone call from the manager of the property Monday(today) but have not been called yet. I would expect at least a refund of one night because this property was absolutely horrible. I would never ever recommend anyone stay at this property. We will be sure to never stay at another Hampton Inn again.

Hotel did not have a working ac in the room. The windows were bolted shut and management made no efforts to fix it. All the other rooms were sold out. We were offered another room the next day, after we moved all of our stuff in. The man at the counter was as so helpful, but the management did not fix the problem. The ice machine was broken on our floor and the tv did not work.

The hot tub has been out since April. The renovations are listed on the website but not completed. Not many options around hotel and only one elevator. Had to pay for parking. Lots of spider webs on balcony!!! and the inside stairwell! Staff was nice.

Booked three rooms for two nights for a wedding at golf course adjacent to property. Best parts of the stay were the large-ish size of the rooms, the gym used by the guys in our group and the daily breakfast included in price. Worst parts of the stay was consistent with many of the reviews that I didn’t read until after booking—mostly related to the upkeep and maintenance of the property. Laundry room not working also. Canceled one room because the air conditioner didn’t work. In SoCal in the middle of the summer. Ugh. The desk person said nothing she could do. I told her not acceptable and what other rooms were available with working air con. She said nothing. I said I just checked on Expedia and there were available rooms. She said not in your room class. I said that’s not my problem when you are not providing me with a room as advertised (with air con) for which I paid. Asked for a manager; staff person replied won’t be in until tomorrow morning. Fortunately the folks in my group had gone upstairs to the two rooms with working a/c and they said the rooms are big enough for us to fit four to a room. So we canceled the third room without a charge to me. Had to be clear about that and got a receipt. Bummer was sleeping on a wiry sofa bed for two nights…but at least there was a/c! The parking charge added almost $100 for two cars for two days—the property is not is the middle of town but is bounded by a major road and a golf course. Kinda silly charging parking.

The pool and Jacuzzi were empty. Also there was a $20 charge for parking.

Not up to Hampton standard. Only one very slow elevator. Some rooms did not have air conditioners that worked. Was not able to check in until 3:35. I had requested an early check in months ago. Called before arriving and they put me on a waiting list. We went early but was told to come back at 3:00. Long line of people checking in, all had issues of one sort or another. The person at the front desk told us when we checked out that only one computer was working. Family was in from other states for family wedding. That was a recommendation by the venue, which I will give them an update. Thought it was way overpriced. Breakfast was the only thing I can say was okay,

I was traveling and had to cancel an appointment just to make it in time before midnight hours away from this hotel. When I showed up, I called the front desk and heard the phone ring. Obviously the staff don’t bother to answer the phone, and the person at night said he has no idea why no one bothered to answer. Rooms smell musky, parapets looks and smell old and dirty, and you can find stains in every inch of the room. This is by far the worst Hampton Inn I’ve ever stayed in. First and last time I stay at this hotel.

Being close to the state beach is nice. That is about the only good thing about this property. We definitely over paid for our 3 night stay here at a 1.5 star hotel. $22 a day to park on top of the $280 a night stay is ridiculous. There was old granola bars that were half eaten in the closet. 2 shower towels and crumbs in the sheets of the pullout bed. If you stay here, I suggest bringing your own blankets and linens. Not the cleanest hotel and our room key stopped working 3 times over the course of our stay. Extremely inconvenient.

Very clean room

Black mold in the shower, I told the front desk about the black mold the morning of May 10,2025 , the lady told me they would take care of the mold, they told me there wasn’t another room available, when we returned back to the room in the evening of May 10, 2025 there was a strong smell of maybe cleaning fluid and paint ? The smell was so strong it made me sick ( asthma ) .

Not bad family hotel but needs renovation. Clean. Good service

I would be willing to try this property again, only once the renovations are complete. Our shower had mold in it that we noticed our first night here. Since it was late and we figured nobody would come and correct the issue until the next day, we went and showered in my sister’s room. We made sure to call the front desk and let them know our shower had mold and asked if it could please be cleaned the next day while we were out. The next day comes around and we return to our hotel to our room having been cleaned, but mold still in the shower. So we had to call the front desk again and ask for someone to come and remedy this mold situation so we could shower. After calling for the second time, the situation was corrected. The staff was friendly and helpful on each interaction, but the mold in the shower grossed me out.

Old and unclean

The hotel smelt like weed 24/7 and our hotwl room had a very weird smell to it. The floors were dirty, our feet were dirty after walking on the carpet. There was someones undies in the sofa bed. If we had the time to find another hotel we would have. Our shower had no soap in the container on the firat night we checked in.

Room was very dated. Smelled musty...old, felt unclean.

I liked that this property was a short drive from my wedding venue. I was able to check in with ease and found my room to be exactly what I needed. The only issue I had was when I was getting ready on the day of my wedding. I was walking barefoot in my room all morning. When I went to put my shoes on the bottoms of my feet were filthy as if I had been strolling around the parking lot barefoot instead of the carpet in my room. My mother was shocked and I had to scrub my feet clean before heading out for the day.

No ac no towels no tv in 2 nd room

Our room was a nice room at the end of the hall. We had a great, quiet view on the balcony overlooking the golf course. A little outdated but they’re beginning to update at the end of May they say. Comfy beds. Free breakfast was not great, premade omelet was a bit sponge like in consistency, oatmeal a bit watery. Coffee ok, toast & muffins are good. Overall a good place. Looking forward to their next phase of updates and refurbishing.

The room was in very bad shape. Most importantly they knowingly put us in a room with a broken air conditioner. The room also had no windows that could be opened. The oustide temperature was 58 degrees, while it was 80 degrees in our room. We had to switch rooms with my small children at 1am in the morning. This was a very unsafe and disappointing situation for my family. I would like a full refund on all money spent for this reservation.

This is a nice hotel in a great location right off the fwy. It's easy to get in and out and has beautiful view of the ocean (over the fwy) if your room is on the west side of the building. What we don't like is the noisy ice machine at the end of the hall and the people that use it at 2am filling their ice-chests for a very long couple of minutes. Very annoying and rude to wake the whole floor. :-(

Very dated, worn out, with mildew smell throughout. And the AC was broken in our room so it was pretty warm. The pull out sofa bed was unusable, very lumpy with springs visible. Lights worked when they wanted to, cut off randomly. They really need to remodel and update this hotel!

Nice big suite, clean and attractive. Interesting entrance- main entrance is from garage.

Everything met my expectations except the wifi signal was weak and barely worked unless standing by the front door.

I was having a Grandma/granddaughter night stay by the beach. Everyone was extremely nice and welcoming. My granddaughter loved how spacious our room was and had fun watching her own TV.

The hotel is centrally located in San Clemente, but that's about it. Very noisy from the highway traffic, the rooms are very dated and need gutting. It's expensive for what you get and the location. The staff was mostly friendly.

A wedding ring was left in the room...don't get me started. The staff did a wonderful job finding and sending it to us. Beyond that though, it was difficult. A bit of a surprise was a $22/night charge to park. Mind you, no security provided, regular parking lot, stalls too tight to get in half the time. Then there was non-functioning TV, the empty shampoo containers, empty Kleenex container, lobby bathroom taped off, and 35 minutes to check-in as the place was understaffed. Glad to get the ring back. Won't be returning.

Staff (Jose and Anthony at front desk), and everyone else, service -excellent ! Rooms nice and clean, breakfast- wonderful! I usually look for Marriotts or Westins when traveling but now I’m going to be looking for Hiltons as well!

Nightmare experience! I was double charged for one room. I have spent HOURS on the phone with Hampton Inn and every time I have to re explain my situation, get a new case number, and am promised that the manager will call me back and issue my refund. The manager, Julianne, will not call me and the front desk worker would not let me speak to her. I have left multiple messages with multiple front desk people. I have been promised a call back and a refund over and over again. It has been a month and I have still not even been able to speak to the manager. I have two young babies at home and the hours on the phone has been a huge sacrifice for my family.

My recent stay at this Hilton hotel was extremely disappointing and frustrating. Check-In Issues: - Upon arrival, we were given a room with a non-working AC. - After requesting a new room, we were asked to wait an hour while they attempted to resolve the issue. - During this time, we were even asked if we could stay in the room overnight despite the broken AC, as there were no other rooms available. Resolution Delays: - The clerk at the front desk gave us the runaround, and it wasn't until 11:30 PM that we finally received a new room. - This resolution was only achieved because a new clerk came on duty, and I had to call Hilton directly and Hotels.com to escalate the issue. -the hotel had 8 available rooms per the new clerk and didn’t understand why the first clerk was against moving us. **Misleading Property Description:** - The hotel is advertised as an ocean view property, but it is actually located next to the freeway, nowhere near the ocean. Hotel Condition: - The condition of the hotel is rapidly deteriorating, with visible mold and peeling paint. Overall, this was one of the worst Hilton experiences I have ever had. I would highly recommend finding a different establishment to stay at.

Room wasn’t ready at 3pm for check in and waited over 2 hours

There was a gentleman at check in forgot to get his name but he was very helpful and polite. Our room was not ready but he made sure to get it done asap. Thank you!

We could not check in until 3pm. Our room was very close to the interstate highway, and could not be changed. Water was coming through the ceiling, and the room had a strong odor. We could not open the sliding door for fresh air because the highway was very loud. We were moved to another room, still facing the highway. Wi Fi was weak, and kept shutting down completely, which was quite annoying. The location is not within convenient walking distance to the main part of town, and the walk would not be a nice one. The employees were nice, but the stay was below average.

We really enjoyed our stay at the property. Parking was easy and plentiful and the staff was awesome. This hotel is a 5 minute drive to the state beach. There’s about 7 restaurants in walking distance.

Easy 10-15 minute walk to beach. Large room with balcony and nice views of golf course. It seemed you could easily park near by on street without paying hotel parking fees.

Great customer service, location, and breakfast. What a great time

I tend to stay in places that I know have a free breakfast included; this one did not disappoint. Room was very clean. Decor(wall paper) starting to show age as the edges were peeling up. Must be a CA thing to charge for parking...

This is a very average hotel. Our room was nice and spacious because we had a suite, but overall the whole hotel is very outdated and needs remodeled badly! The breakfast is nothing special. The second day that we were there, they had no milk or juice. I'm not sure how you offer a breakfast and run out of those items. The pool is extremely small and it wasn't clean. We tried to get in it and then got out because it was so dirty. If you just want an average stay, then this will be fine for you. We expected more!

My husband LOVED the breakfast every morning. He loved the variety and raved how good it all tasted. The staff was great, very friendly and helpful. We will recommend this hotel and would stay here again ourselves.

I always go to the Hamptons in San Clemente, but was disappointed in the breakfast. It was a little messy and everything wasn’t full. You have to ask them to refill food. Also they don’t have decaf coffee anymore or nonfat milk.

The hotel was clean and staff were friendly. The breakfast was great and I loved that every room was a suite.

The breakfast was amazing. Graciela is a great cook. Our rooms were great. It was the perfect weekend. Thank you.
