Extended Stay America Suites - San Diego - Sorrento Mesa

This is an old property and some areas are showing their age, such as rust at corner of tub, old cabinets with sticky wood trim, ancient carpet. Carpet is filthy, my feet get black every day just from walking around room. Bathroom fan very noisy. Has 2 burner hob built in, but VERY slow to heat and doesn't get hot enough for real sizzling cooking. Plusses: VERY quiet with door closed, great safe neighborhood, wonderful mattress, and I love the A/C - great temp control, great fan control, and very quiet. Curtains are also ancient but at least I can completely close them with a pillow or box at bottom to block out virtually all light. Lighting not the best, a little dark. But overall, a good property to stay at especially if you need a room for an extended period. Access and parking very easy. If you're between homes and need to store some things there is a Public Storage that shares the driveway, less than a 3 minute walk. Big closet and lots of storage in room. Laundry facilities on site, clean, everything works, a little pricey though. Negative: They only have 1 outdoor grill for the whole property. Frequently in use so you either have to wait or grill the next day. "Breakfast" is pre-packaged muffins and granola bars. Coffee only during "breakfast" hours and not always hot. No food, coffee, or grocery within walking distance.

Free parking, which is not very common for many San Diego hotels.

Need more parking

No 24 hr. Parking lot security, grab and go bkfst consisted ONLY of instant oatmeal, room had a foul odor i think coming from wall ac unit.

No ice machine and the “breakfast” was a disappointment, to say the least. Please stock rooms with soap and shampoo.

Location is great but no elevator to carry your luggage. Housekeeping and front desk is nice. Breakfast is so so.

Good place to stay in a pinch Hairdryers are give out at the front desk- you have to ask though. Carpet could use a deep cleaning. Otherwise a safe and quiet place to stay

Nice stay, everything was clean, & no parking fee was great! Excellent customer service from D’sean in the front, very accommodating & prompt to take care of anything needed to make sure your stay was pleasant.

Our two night stay was average at best. Ive never stayed at a hotel that did not have an ice vending machine. The room was average but the carpet was filthy.

The reasons for selecting this hotel was for laundry facilities and the continental breakfast however we weren't aware of renovations so unfortunately those weren't available

Very clean

The first room was just dirty, walls stained, chairs with food stains and crumbs, toilet seat broken thick 2 inch layer of dust all around carpet phone not working smoking detector missing and I could go on…. I asked to get moved to a different room the second room had blood in toilet seat and urine droppings, dining chairs were dirty bed frames dirty with gunk, phone once again not working plus more

We stayed on August 23rd in a king suite with separate room and pull out couch. The bed was filled with red and clear baby ticks. The pillows were filled with adult sized ticks. Our child was surrounded by all the pillows with the ticks. The front desk agent, Eugene, was nonchalant about the whole situation and once I went to the front desk, he came from the back room without any shoes on. He moved across and around the hall which we were on, and our child was asleep at the time which happened to be about 10pm. We had to move our baby, and all our stuff.

The room had not been cleaned. There is dog food on the floor, the fridge has dog hair, the toilet seat had human hair on it, the bathtub looks like it was not cleaned, it has soap residue on it. The bathtub is peeling and the floors are coming apart, the carpet has stains, could be from pet poop. Now I’m doubting if the sheets are even clean. I had picked this hotel due to the reviews saying it was clean and safe, now I’m here with my husband and baby, feeling unsafe about our stay. I called front desk and they informed me that there are no more rooms available and they have no maintenance person on the property. I had to clean the toilet and fridge myself, so that I can use the toilet and the refrigerator for my baby’s food. by far the worst experience I’ve had.

everything in the room is old, tub is old, peeling with lots of yellow stain, room smells old. Sorry but I am just being honest. needs upgrade.

This is worst hotel I have ever been to. Carpet had multiple stains. Room smelled like a toilet and weed. Tap in bathtub and shower head were very old and not maintained. No toiletries in room. When asked front desk said we need to ask for it. Room was not livable and we had to find another room at 9 PM. Overall it was a terrible experience.

Dead bugs on floor and in sinks. Huge spider crawled out of pillow when I moved it to get into bed. Thankfully I was able to kill it but was antsy all night. Both toilets clogged and the sinks as well. I was glad we were only there for a night. Would never stay here again. It’s worth it the pay the extra $50/60 for a decent room elsewhere.

Bathroom shower was covered in long hair on shower on wall and also on counter tops

This property has a BIG BED BUG problem. We got bitten and they were not willing to do much. The front desk clerk informed us the manager was on vacation and he had no way to get hold of any one. He was not able to move us to another room either. Our two rooms was not the exception another customer also complained about the bed bugs while I was at the front desk. On top of this while I was out of the room for about 5 minute, the housekeeping entered our locked room without being asked to do so and stated to strip down things. When I asked what she was doing in our room she responded her manger had informed her that we had checked out and to clean the room I asked her to stop and to leave my room she did not do so. Asked to speak to the manager and was given the same answer, she was on vacation. When I asked the front desk person to speak to the manager who had given these instruction and was told she was on vacation. The toilets were not flushing, I called the front desk, the front desk clerk came and adjusted things, It still did not flush well and was told by the front desk the maintenance person was on vacation and he could not do much. The theme at this property was every one was on vacation and front desk clack had to mange thing all by himself. We called customer service and not much happened. Move out of the property that day for our safety.

This room/facility was so bad that we checked out early and stayed elsewhere. It’s worse than a motel. It’s a shame because I love extended stays but this one was terrible. Very old building. Our door knob was broken, wooden floors were missing pieces, carpet was extremely dirty, couch had cigarette burn, bathtub had 2 huge areas of chipped coating and the room smelled sour. This is not a safe place for a family with a baby.

Was very dated and plumbing was broken. Wall in the bathroom leaked whenever shower was turned on. Person at the reception tried his best to help Tried to change the room but the new rooms AC didn’t work.

The place was nice and quiet. The room clean and the good thing was it has a stove where you can cook or prepare something to eat if you just want to stay and eat inside the hotel. Overall it’s a good place to stay and we’ll probably stay here again if we are around the area.

Very loud traffic all night, old school decor & furniture from the 80's. Curtains didn't close all the way. Heater was very loud. Would not stay here again.

We got there a little late so we were tired when we walked into our room it immediately smelt horrible, the air conditioner didn’t work. Went down to the office. The staff was really fantastic. They switched our room immediately. Second room we went into, air conditioner worked fine, room did not smell. The door handle was jiggly almost felt like it was gonna come off, The carpets almost felt sticky, the handle in the shower came off, there was mold on the ceiling, there was a cricket in our room that wouldn’t shut up, a spider bit my leg, and we had to go back every single night to the office to get a new key for our room because none of our keys would open our door. If the staff wasn’t so helpful, I probably would’ve been super pissed.

Overall great checkin was so quick and easy room was clean and big enough 2 beds 2 chairs big fridge sink and stove to cook the bathroom was a good size as well everything was on point

Room was dated..Shower the worse.

Room showed a lot of wear and is in need of repair and updating. We saved money by staying here and it worked as a place to shower and sleep.

The VERY substantial street noise in Room 227, compounded by the loud tromping around of the people upstairs all night and the very loud air conditioner resulted in a sleepless night. Probably the worst hotel stay in my life. I got dressed at 5:30 AM and went outside and waited until the desk clerk arrived to check out. It was a traumatic experience.

Worse experience to begin with. Staff assigned me to an occupied room. Keys not working properly. I went from room to check in counter 4 times due key not working and wrong assigned room. Hope management make some improvements to be more organized and trained staff properly. Will never come back to this hotel. Period

Reserved a 2 queen bed room for 3 nights. Checked in, parked close to the room, walked in the room and it was a 1 bed room. Went back to the office and the attendant said all of their 2 bed rooms have been taken. So my friend and were forced to leave and find another place to stay late at night.

Arrived after 10 pm with my son and was told our Pre-Paid Stay was not available. Basically the Hotel was Over Sold. Read previous reviews about this Hotel but didn’t think it would happen to me. Confirm in advance before you arrive, especially with a Pre-Paid Reservation. Never experienced this with Expedia but seems like it happens often to this hotel.

its took us 50 minutes to get the key, the front desk rap was no where to be found , then he give us a room that its stink from smoke , i came to compliane and agian he was no where to be found for another 20 minutes and fainely we got the room , my worse expirance

Id like to give a shout out to the amazing lady working Saturday night 6/21!! She went out of her way and helped ease out stay after the AC stopped working in our room! And provided us with all the necessary kitchen stuff to keep us going. BUT 1 WAY TO improve the hotel stay would be to provide WATER, please 🙏

I'm not sure if they are short-staffed but waited about 15 minutes for someone to come to the front desk to check us in. A line formed. The room had one towel, one soap, no shampoo or conditioner or lotion or anything! I went to front desk for towels and he said they didn't have any clean towel! Another person was also asking for a towel. We walked away that night hoping to get a towel in the morning. Room was hot, getting the air to work took some time. We can hear the cars from the busy street. Get ready the next morning and the toliet stops flushing! We left, we paid around $200 per night and I will never stay here again. I have never written a bad review and was kind/nice to the staff but they need help and supplies.

Lobby was dirty, wifi was down, room had an odd odor to it. Maybe we caught it on a bad day, maybe not. The two staff members at the front were very sweet but the whole place seemed understaffed.

It's in a safe area

The staff was very friendly and helpful. However, the room has carpet stains all over, and the white blanket on the bed has a big brown stain. In the evening, while walking the dog around the property, we encountered a person sitting and rolling on the ground in the parking lot and he looks like something is not right with him. There were individuals who appeared sketchy around the property. According to others, this is normal, and the police are unable to intervene.

Nice basic room with cute kitchen. Convenient location. Only negative/oddity is we noticed a person spending the entire night in their car in the parking lot.

It felt safer, was clean enough, quiet

Our visit with Extended Stay America was great! My mother in law was in town for a surgery and it was super close to where we needed to be at any given moment. Lots of shopping and dining options near by and easier to get to than some of the other hotels in the area. Property felt safe and was always well lit at night, all staff were kind and helpful, and the room had everything we needed to keep to our creature comforts. Thank you Extended Stay America for a wonderful visit!

Very hard to find. No convenient restaurants.

Upon check in the room card key was inoperable, took several hours for the issue to be resolved. Although breakfast is included, I was advised by the front desk clerk, the following morning, that 'there was no food'. I was not offered anything to compensate me for the above circumstances. Very disappointed with the whole experience. I will not stay at this property again and I will caution friends and family, of the above.

There is no breakfast other than coffee and one bowl of cereal

The “continental breakfast” were stale muffins and coffee that was set up in the check in office.

Not as advertised re the Expedia photos! Morning breakfast? No way. Black coffee, hot water and packets of instant oatmeal. Shrink wrapped "muffins." Loud heater.

The guy working the evening shift has a great personality. I was bummed to find out that Sunday morning Breakfast runs from 6:30-9:30 most the hotels we have stayed at on weekends are 7:00-10:00am. On weekends and 6-9 on weekdays

I really enjoyed our stay. We were able to keep our leftovers in the fridge and warm them up in the morning. They also had some breakfast items available which made in convenient for the kids to have something to eat in the morning.
