Grant Plaza Hotel

The property was located in a good area of China Town. It did not have air condition which was a bit of a bummer. I wished it had a little fridge for drinks. It was difficult maneuvering to the closet because the rooms were so small. Parking was difficult but they did have a garage for an extra daily rate but it was a bit of a walk. Otherwise the front desk people were always so nice and helpful.

The location and price were great. The hotel doesn't offer amenities such as a mini-fridge, ice maker, temperature control in the room, and the t.v. is very tiny.

Great location in Chinatown, easy walk to piers at Fisherman's Wharf, close to trolley car stops, plenty of Ubers close by. Friendly staff. Compact and clean room, perfect for the single traveler or young couple. Shower worked well. Bed is not soft and night time has a lot of street noise and you have to leave the window open as these older buildings don't have A/C, but if you make yourself busy enough during the day, believe me you still sleep well! If you are fussy and want A/C and soft fluffy beds then be prepared to fork out $500 per night in San Francisco. The Grant Plaza is value with extra cash left to go to the baseball, cruise to Alcatraz, day trip to Yosemite etc!

No thermostat for temp control

We arrived to find out that the elevator was without power. The management had a staff member take our luggage to our room (that was nice). Ice was located in the lobby and Hot water was located in the stairwell to the basement. The rooms are small and you have to have good mobility to sit on the toilet, also be small because if you are tall your knees will hit the wall. The shower has excellent water pressure (power washer worthy). Did not lack in hot water which self increased as you shower. Need to constantly turn down the heat. There was no coffee maker in the room. Not sure if there was one in the hotel at all. The twin beds could use a nice 3" foam topper to be comfortable. Management should have alerted their customers that the elevator was not able to be used prior to their visit. We witnessed a fiasco which involved a customer with compromised lung capacity who was staying in the deluxe room that happens to be on the 6th floor. This person was not able to walk up that many flights of stairs. The management offered to clean a room on the second floor however it was not a deluxe room. I'm not sure how the debacle was worked out. In all, for the price I think the accommodations were fair considering we were close to everything we needed/wanted to be close to. The management should update all customers that their elevator is not working and offer a refund or pay for the customer to stay somewhere else if they choose to be secretive about the problem.

My stay here was fine. I chose this hotel because it was one of the lowest prices (if not THE lowest) in the area, plus it was walking distance to my destination the day after I stayed here. This is pretty darn basic, though. I didn't read the full description of the hotel, but I was surprised there was not mini-frig (so my lunch for the following day was thrown away). Other than that, I really don't have complaints - just a simple, basic stay. I probably woudn't stay here again, though.

It’s a room. I’ll say that. Took 15 minutes for water to get remotely warm, basic room nothing more to it. No microwave or mini fridge. Had to go to lobby for ice (I was on six floor).

No mini fridge or microwave in the room, no air conditioning, and was not clear on the site that there was no parking, you will have to pay $35 to park in a parking garage 3 blocks away and then walk your bags and luggage all the way there.

coffee and ice service for free was good. The room was a little cold but we were not able to control the temperature from our room.

There is no AC or heat in the rooms. My room was top floor, corner room - super cold. There was a locked door leading to some other place(don’t think it was another hotel room), cold was getting in from there. Also, the elevator was not working and my room was on the 6th floor. The guy at the reception helped with my suitcase checking in. 3 days later the elevator was still not working, so I had to carry it downstairs by myself.

Great location downtown convenient to financial district, Embarcadero, Chinatown, and Union Square. Room was clean, tiny, & pretty basic. Front desk staff were wonderful. Good value. I would stay again.

It was a clean room in a central location of SF.

My family and I had a great experience at this hotel. The staff was friendly and the rooms were clean. We are bit of clean freaks so we brought Lysol wipes to wipe the toilet, sink and shower which were spotless. We used alcohol spray for the beds and there was nothing there. The location is perfect. We look forward to staying there again very soon. Thank you Grant Plaza Hotel for our wonderful stay.

Bedbugs!!!

Good customer service and nice clean room.

1. Was questioned and almost turned away for my licensed service dog after i gave them legal documentation. 2. Room had bedbugs! Was bitten at least 10 times throughout the night. Rooms are very outdated. Felt like they havent been remodeled since the 90's.

Excellent location for attending conference at Moscone Center. Clean hotel and room with very nice bathroom. Great value for the location and room size. Friendly staff.

This property is located in Chinatown right by the dragon gate. We were able to walk to where we needed to go. Parking is off site. Ask for a parking voucher to get a discount to park in the garage. There was 6 strands of long black hair that were in the shower so it obviously wasn’t cleaned. There was also a peanut on the floor and earring so the floor wasn’t vacuumed. This is a good option for travelers who do not plan to spend much time in their room.

The workers were very nice, however the street traffic noise at night was beyond believable! Felt like we were sleeping next to a racetrack or runaway. Shower had dirty shower curtain with mold on it.

Positives: Very Friendly staff, Great Location to Chinatown / Financial District. Affordable. Generally clean rooms and property. Room for Improvement: 1) Better beds - very firm / hard 2) Thin walls / can hear door hallway chatter and footsteps creaky floors everywhere. Observations: Not much could be done about the physical structures / noise since its an older building, it’s understandable. However travelers hold these tenets highly - Cleanliness, Comfort, Noise Level, Hospitality. The beds are their best opportunity to improve upon and regularly auditing their rooms to ensure it has everything in working order. The single room was very tight and small versus the advertised photos and the window lacked a mesh net. The alarm clock makes a slight buzz noise. The sink was slowly detaching from the wall mount/ tile. The shower head was loose and couldn’t remain in a fixed position and the bath mat itself showed dark spots / sullied use. If you can forego some of these aspects then this a hotel worth booking for the price point in a prime historical landmark location. It’s no frills, basic, simple, generally clean. Should they make some improvements it may be worth consider staying here again.

Property was in a good location. Room was as described. Clean and staff was helpful and friendly. Room was basic good if you’re not looking for frills. Beds definitely could have been more comfortable. No complaints.

I had a cozy but comfortable room for three nights in early October 2025. Check in was a breeze. Nice, updated bathroom with great shower, super comfy bed, and steady WiFi. Quiet at night, despite the downtown location. Super close to Chinatown and heaps of public transportation options. Including only one block from the California cable car line. I doubt I could find better value for money in that location. Professional, efficient front desk staff and friendly housekeeping. I would gladly stay again.

Excellent staff, great location, awesome room!

I stay here when in San Francisco, it's in Chinatown and walk able to Bart/Muni station. I like the 24 hour service, I arrive late 1:00 am, there is always someone there to greet you. I also like the hours check-in 2:30pm and check out 12:30 pm :)

Loved the location. The price was excellent and everything was within a 5-15 minute walk. The staff was very helpful, got me a room that faced away from the street so it was super quiet!

The staff was very friendly and helpful. Having a desk open 24 hours was super convenient as we arrived late and and were very helpful with dining suggestions

Clean room, great view, and incredibly kind staff! I accidentally left a belonging behind, and they were quick and happy to arrange sending it back to me. They even gave us options for our preferred room layout. Amazing team and a wonderful overall experience!

Great location near to downtown but also near tourist options. Traditional small SF hotel, but it is everything that you need. The front desk staff were fantastic. I will mostly likely stay here again on my next business trip.

Just in the heart of Chinatown walkable to Pier 39, fisherman’s wharf. Even though breakfast is mot included you can get closeby breakfast.

The front desk claimed they did not make coffee because of the pandemic. It’s almost 2024. I stayed at five hotels on this trip. This was the only one that didn’t have coffee, at least. The elevator requires one to have three arms to get in and out if you have bags because of the scissor gate and door you have to open. The mattress was very firm. The water temperature and pressure was good.

Website said it had coffee in mornings and toothbrush if you forgot yours. Both are no longer a thing. Window and ceiling leaked all night into room and was noisy.

beautiful old character building from the outside. modern & spotless on the inside. staff very friendly & helpfull. bordering chinatown, so convenient for restaurants, bars etc. use of the nearby cable car to climb the hills made it easy to walk to all the attractions other than the golden gate bridge. fridge & kettle with tea/coffee would have been good but for the budget traveller, no complaints. would recommend,

Overall, good. It’s quite noisy in the late evening from traffic and garbage pickup. The windows are quite thin. The location for price can’t be beat. Reviews say shower pressure and temperature is excellent and I found this to also be true. Bathrooms are bright and clean and reno’d. Mattress is SUPER firm. Too firm. Don’t expect a coffee machine or toiletries other than body wash, bar soap, 2in1 shampoo, makeup wipes, and a blow dryer. There was s’pose to be coffee in the lobby but a sign said they’re currently not offering coffee service. There are many coffee options near by but free morning coffee would be nice. Overall for value, good, but you will be sacrificing some things for the price.

December 2023, but closed coffee facility and no proactive room cleaning due to covid. I’m completely fine with staff wearing masks, but do not understand why we cannot have coffee. And for cleaning the room no interaction with customers is needed. The room was very clean, but it’s an old wooden building so you heard everyone walk, all hours of the night as well unfortunately. Staff was friendly.

If you’re looking for a hotel to simply sleep off the day you had exploring San Francisco then this is it! I stayed here for three nights and only took the train once when traveling to Burlingame. Everything else was walking distance for me! It’s in the heart of Chinatown making it the perfect spot as there are lots of restaurants around you & public transportation is easily accessible. I loved the 24/7 front desk as they were very helpful with answering any of my questions & overall gave the hotel a much safer feel. The only complaint I would have are that the walls are a bit thin so hearing bed squeaks are to be expected but nothing ear plugs can’t fix. Overall this hotel can’t be beat for its price & location! I’ll definitely be coming here again for any future trips.

Definitely enjoyed the free coffee in the morning because I definitely needed it for sure.
