This hotel is a gem. Situated across the road from the ocean, it was clean, comfortable and the room was a good size. The property is quiet and with a window open, all you can hear is the ocean. Staff was very friendly and accommodating and we had an excellent breakfast in the attached restaurant- which looked like it would be fun in the evening as well. We didn’t have time to look around but could see a lovely outdoor pool area that would be perfect for families with kiddos who love to swim. Definitely would stay here again

There’s a restaurant, bar, and convenience store on the property. It’s also close to Cambria and very reasonably priced. Would definitely stay there again.

Happy hour was fun and good deals on drinks. The food and service was fine but on the expensive side for an older place showing it's age. We did love the free EV charging so kudos to them for providing that!!

The rooms are a bit dated but spacious, clean and comfortable with friendly staff. USB ports would be nice. Room has a fridge but no microwave. Located very near the ocean. The heated pool is a bonus!

We have stayed several times at the San Simeon Lodge because of the location and easy care for our small dog. There is a lot of grass out front of rooms and rock areas around property. Great for the dog and view of the ocean. The hotel is set way back off the main street so it is pretty quiet too.

We enjoyed our stay at this motel. There is not any included breakfast. The room we chose did not have a view toward the ocean, those were more expensive, and we wanted to do things and not stay in our room. Only one Ice machine on the property, and the late arrival that parked near our open window wasn't informed to keep quiet. There was a warm, cool to swim in that has a clear plastic fence, but no jacuzzi. The restaurant at the motel was a high class, and pricy. We enjoyed our room. A couple issues only. The cord on the room's coffee machine was too short, and we had to try different spot to plug in, and the exhaust fan in the bathroom was dead. No safe in the room. No AC needed for that area. Non in our room.

The overall experience was very relaxing, and the view was absolutely beautiful. Really good food places around, especially in Cambria. The only complaint I had was the cleanliness, our bed comforter had blood stains on it when we first arrived. But housekeeping came right away when we called and she replaced our sheets with ones that were obviously just cleaned.

I stayed here 9 years ago and it was a typical motel, nothing special, but ok. 9 years later it was grim; mould on the net curtains, paper peeling off the wall, a loose electrical socket, and generally run down. On a positive note, the bed was comfortable, the linen crisp and clean, and the staff were pleasant. This place is at the budget end of the accommodation available locally, and it’s obvious why as soon as you walk into your room. If I’m looking for somewhere just to sleep for the night I don’t need a list of facilities that I won’t use, and so am happy to choose a budget motel, but I do expect to be clean and presentable. The room I stayed in was not - Avoid.

The room and bathroom smelled musty and there was still hair in the shower and pee in the toilet. For roughly the same price, we were able to stay at a much nicer and cleaber inn.

The hotel is conveniently located for visits to the Hearst Castle. The restaurant was ok, service a bit slow and expensive. The breakfast was better than the dinner service. The room is dated but clean. It is rather small but the bed was comfortable.

We stayed at this hotel for convenience and price, and I guess we got what we paid for. Overall it is FINE, not amazing and not completely awful, but there are definitely areas of improvement - mainly cleanliness. The worst thing: the sheets had dark/dirt marks on them when we got into them, so I wondered if they'd even been changed, which is awful. The second worst thing - the floor had not been vacuumed, so we wore our shoes in the room. The third worst thing - the shower and bathroom were overall "clean" but the tiles were cracked and the soap holder was broken off. Good parts: the location, the pool was nice, the staff were friendly, good view of the sunset. It's a 2-star motel on the highway, you pretty much get what you expect. Probably wouldn't stay here again.

Perfect location it took us like 2 minutes to walk to the beach. The lodge property was super clean, the staff was friendly and accommodating and there's a market right at the hotel with everything you'll need. Room was clean and comfy. Very quiet and peaceful my family and I had zero complaints about our stay we'll definitely be back.

The Weather was pretty good. The Motel room was bad. It smells of mold, old cigarette smoke and mildew. The carpet was torn and the bathroom was musty. Extremely small, nothing like the photos on line. It's hard to believe the ratings that are posted because of all the problems. The toilet was incredibly hard to flush and never emptied with one flush. It took two or three flushes. I'll never go there again.....

The hotel is a bit older design with the doors exiting onto an exterior walkway, somewhat typical of hotels near the beach. The sound of people talking and walking down the walkway was excessive and the walls are not insulated well, you could hear the people next door talking (loudly) and constantly slamming the doors. You could hear people outside talking on the phone through the closed door and windows. The windows (both the bathroom and along the exterior walkway) would not lock, so a little uneasy sleeping even though the bed was very comfortable. Bathroom was in need of updating, old shower/tub combination and the shower head was installed for someone under 5 feet tall, and the hot water disappeared at times during a shower. Restaurant was nice and had a decent menu, and there are mini-marts on the property. Location near the beach is ice, access to the beach is across highway 1. Overall nice for a family on a budget, but if looking for a quite or romantic beach get way, spend a little more and stay at one of the higher end resorts across the highway right on the water or up in Cambria (moonstone has less traffic) and nicer more up to date rooms.

Mattress was so soft we rolled into the middle like an air mattress going flat but other than that it was a great stay. Loved the room, restaurant and location. Had a king room with a slider out to the pool area. Included a tiny private patio. Short walk down to the beach. Will definitely return.

This is an older hotel. The bed and pillows weren't the most comfortable, but doable. The room was a bit cramped. We enjoyed our stay. We had requested a room with a balcony, however it was misleading, as the upper floor was a walkway, and not a balcony for the room. That's the case with nearly all the rooms here. We did have a large picture window facing the ocean, which was nice. But it wasn't what we'd anticipated, being able to sit outdoors on our own balcony with an ocean view. Which is why we chose this hotel.

Considering there was so many raving reviews I was kinda surprised how average this hotel was. I think it was worth about half the price since it wasn’t very modern. Also you can hear the neighbors almost word for word. (Including being woken by hocking loogies 4 times in the middle of the night, yes gross!) Bed wasn’t that comfortable either.

We end up getting there a little early..the front desk said our room was ready and let us check in..we were on the 2nd floor facing the ocean which was AMAZING we had the windiws open and heard the waves crashing..i havent slept that good in a very long time...THANK YOU to the FRONT DESK and Cleaning team..we will be back

I booked a room at the motel, but accidently booked it for the following night. When the front desk pointed that out, i asked him to move the reservation to the present day. The motel was virtually empty. He refused to do so, seeming to delight in my mistake. He said i should have booked it directly through the motel as opposed to through Expedia. I hope people steer clear of this place. I ended up not going to Hearst Castle because of this incident.

We decided to stay last minute at the San Simeon Lodge, check was easy, the staff was very nice. A few updates could stand to be done, but overall a great value!

We had 3 rooms for our group. One of us did not have hot water. One room had a foul smell but we were told they were fully booked and could not move us to a different room. We opened doors and windows and aired out the room which helped a little bit. My mini fridge did not work. The smell from the heater was terrible so I couldn't turn it on even though it was chilly at night. My key card did not work properly and I had to return to the front desk several times during my 3 day stay for my card to be reactivated so I could get into my room. The ocean view was nice but did not make up for all the negatives. We will not be staying there again.

Lovely location, a well kept older motel, yes it needs some work, but you can see they are making improvements and maintaining things. The restaurant prices are high, but comparable with the local restaurants. Check in was fast and flawless, Luis at the front desk was very professional and friendly.

Perfectly situated 5mins from the Hearst Castle and just south of Ragged Point. Amazing view from the property, super nice staff. Not a fussy room, but it was very clean and the bed was very soft/comfortable. There is a very WELL STOCKED convenience store on the property that has literally anything you need.

The hotel is conveniently located for visits to the Hearst Castle. The restaurant was ok, service a bit slow and expensive. The breakfast was better than the dinner service. The room is dated but clean. It is rather small but the bed was comfortable.

Beautiful view. Rooms were pretty decent. Wish it had a microwave. Restaurant food is alright but I’d suggest Big Sur cafe down the street. They have a killer happy hour from 4-6 pm. I was very satisfied here.

Loved the park by the beach and the firepits at sunset. My bed was one of the most comfortable beds I have had at any priced motel. Only issue was that the restaurant was vastly overpriced. Simple breakfast was $18 bucks and $5 for a cup of coffee.

My wife had dinner at the restaurant and had food poisoning. She was on the toilet for most of the evening. The shower had no water pressure.

I loved the fact that it had beautiful ocean views, and we loved that we had the ability to leave our window open to hear the surf. A better showerhead wouldn't hurt! While the food was good at the restaurant, it was a bit overpriced which allowed us to go to Cambria to eat on the other days we were there. Overall, the food was good, and the stay was great!

We had a wonderful stay. The staff was very nice and friendly. The meal we had at the restaurant was delicious as well as the drinks we had at the bar. The room was very clean, just a little out dated but overall a very nice experience.

I love this place, I have been coming here for years and it never changes. The staff is very friendly. The happy hour at the restaurant is really good. The rooms are nice and clean. What absolutely recommend this to anybody I am a solo traveler with a dog, and it was absolutely fabulous!!

We live two hours from the coast so we go all the time and we’ve stayed at almost all of the hotels in San Simeon and this one is the one we like the best! The restaurant is a little pricey but it’s good! We will come back

Based on the reviews, I expected this property to be a little nicer. It wasn't "dirty" but it also wasn't overly clean. Older property that didn't appear to be well maintained. Bathroom sink faucet sprayed water all over everything. Restaurant was dingy to me. Food, drinks, and staff were good. Location is 100/10. Beautiful views. Property was quiet at night but in the morning you do hear cars on the highway but it didn't bother me.

The property was well maintained and we were quite surprised by the size of the room. It seemed like two bedrooms the way it was arranged. It’s a quick less than 10 minute ride to Hearst Castle which was our adventure of the day. I would recommend it.

Property is old. Needs upgrade. Parking good. Restaurant on site good. No AC. Only option was window from bathroom opened to anyone walking by to peek in or sliding door to courtyard. Not great for privacy. WiFi on site. Pool on site. Sea is across the street behind hotels there.

The location across from the beach can't be beat. It was also so nice to have a restaurant, mini mart and liquor store all right there on the property. We'll be back!
