The hotel was recently renovated. The staff was warm and friendly, definitely aimed to please. Dinner was quite delicious, and breakfast couldn’t have been better. Everything was beautifully plated and tasted as good as it looked. The hotel offers a very nice fitness center, with a new spa opening in the next few weeks. The location was convenient to iconic spots in the area, such as the Santa Monica pier, great restaurants, and good shopping. The beach is close with a trail from the hotel grounds. The next time I’m in Santa Monica, I will definitely stay at the Sandbourne.

I truly loved this hotel. Such amazing amenities. We had the ability to take beach chairs, an umbrella, and a body board, free of charge, to the beach everyday. We also had the ability to rent bikes each day for 90 minutes, again, free of charge if we desired. We also were given a $50 credit for each night/day. Very nice restaurant and bar, definitely well prepared and fancy. I would not recommend renting a car and having it parked at the hotel due to the charge for the valet parking nightly. However, overall, loved this place. Will definitely come back.

Loved the property. Pool is small and not a lot of chairs. If you don’t get there super early you won’t get a lounger

This is a fabulous hotel: modern, chic, functional, clean. The room is spacious, beds are very comfortable, bathroom new and clean. We had a large terrace on the 4th floor with ocean view and nice outdoor furniture. Other reviewers were complici ting about no coffee machine in the room. True, but the complimentary coffee at the reception is much, much better than any coffee that can be produced in the room. Also there is no more construction on site . The pool has nice sitting area and the pool attendant is very nice,,responsive. They provide beach chairs and towels free of charge. The location is perfect (an apartment building is partially obstructing the view) just few steps from the beach. It is a few blocks from the Santa Monica pier, we did not go there as it looked noisy and dirty compared with the serenity of the hotel grounds. We looked a lot online before booking and now I am convinced it was the best choice in Santa Monica. They give $50 credit towards the restaurant/day, we used it for breakfast that was delicious. This is a a true 4star boutique hotel at a very reasonable price for the quality they offer. I suspect it will be much more expensive in the future.

The location cannot be beat. It's exceptional. We went for walks and bike rides along the strand every day, went to the pier for treats and fun. Took an Uber to the Santa Monica Mountains for a hike. Lots of dining and fun activity options. The staff is exceptional. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. The hotel offers a pool (needed a bit more cleaning) and sauna/steam room, a nice restaurant with great breakfast options, and free bike and beach chair rentals. We took advantage of all of these options. One miss? The balconies need more comfortable seating! There's great seating throughout the hotel (lots on the decks for sunset views) but not on the personal balconies. Overall though, we had an exceptional experience. I'd stay here again anytime.

Excellent property!! The free bike rental was super clutch for our family! The welcome drinks were a nice touch. The pool area and outdoor sitting space was spectacular!

We have stayed at a few different properties in Santa Monica on the same street as the Sandbourne. The photos and reviews on Expedia led us to stay there. However, immediately upon arrival we knew it was too good to be true. The staff was good but not great, B- grade. Our room did not feel fresh and the closets were musty with poor lighting. In fact, the entrance of the room where the closet and full length mirror had a dimmed light. We felt like a dark room where they develop photos in the movies. The bed was lump. The shower door was hard to open and close. Good thing we brought our owe toiletries. They had the most undesirable products and the toilet paper was poor quality. We followed the reviews on Expedia but knowing the area we should have gone with the reputation of others hotels.

Amazing remodel that was complete on this hotel. The aesthetics, design, cleanliness and exceptional service went above and beyond.

The staff at this property are amazing! Lovely clean room and the pool area is great. Easy walk to the beach and main shops/ restaurants.

Good for the value in rooms but the bars and restaurants for drinks are grossly overpriced….it is refreshed but not fully renovated as advertised Carpeting needs to be cleaned Staff is mostly helpful

The room smelt like....a lot of sex in the room.

Perfect location, short walk to the beach/pier. Lots of great restaurants nearby. Staff was wonderful. Hotel was very nice and clean.

I would state at the outset that the staff were friendly and courteous and had nothing to do with the issues we had. Here are the lowlights. 1) The room smelled bad. When you walked in the door you would get a blast of what smelled like really strong Mr. Clean. The bathroom smelled like mold. The closet smelled bad and we kept the doors to the closet open to keep clothes from stinking. 2) Construction was going on in the rooms adjacent and there were construction people on the decks next to most of the day. We paid extra for a "partial ocean view" but there would be construction people walking around and making noise. 3) There is an extra "convenience fee" for every day you stay there. This is on top of the cost of the room itself. You can use this fee for food or drinks, but they're going to charge you anyway. 4) You have to pay for internet.This is the 21st century. Motel 6 has free internet.If you want free internet you can only get it if you join their membership and you book directly with the hotel and not through Expedia. 5) There is no ice machine. You have to call to get ice and the ice buckets are small. 6) The shower take a while to warm up. This is California, which is noted for water issues. Also no bars on the shower door to hang wet towels. 7) There is no shelf in the shower for your toiletries. They have shampoo dispensers on the wall but what if you don't want to use their cheesy shampoo? 8) The bed was pretty hard. Worked for me but maybe not you.

The hotel has recently gone through extensive renovations and it looks great! I think they did a great job updating everything. The new beds are very comfortable, the bathrooms are large and very clean. The staff is also very accommodating and friendly.

There’s no coffee , room service is very basic selection. Room request wasn’t given. Jackhammer noises 2am every night, disappointing

Just stayed for 4 nights and had a great experience. It’s very nice but not snooty. Room was large as was bathroom. Bed was comfortable. The decor is very California laid back cool. Restaurant was very good, we had breakfast every day. It was too cool to be at the pool. Had drinks at the lobby bar one night. Service was good and it wasn’t overly crowded. Overall a good experience and price for Santa Monica.

I was woken up early by construction in the building each day very early. It went on all day

Our room was not ready until 30 minutes after checkin time eventhough we arrived 15 minutes before checkin time. The room was way too small for the price. Pictures on the website are deceiving. Also was not made aware that parking was $68 plus tax per night until I got the bill at checkout. However, the room and the facility was clean and well kept.

I love the lobby design and proximity to the beach, I made good use of the bikes! I wish they had more of the design extended to the rooms, my room had the humming of fans turning on and off (like a motor) which made it hard to sleep sound. The balconies were great. The food needs an upgrade: I feel this place could be really great with lighter cuisine. it just wasn't quite right for me at breakfast. the fair felt a little too heavy. I think it could be great with these updates.

The room was so comfortable, quiet, great air conditioning perfect for a good night's sleep. Also great location: close to the beach

The location of this hotel was fantastic. But beware: There are no coffee pots or water kettles in the room. The hotel was out of them, and room service did not show up in the morning. I enjoy my coffee early in the morning, and I don't want to walk to the lobby to get coffee. Bring your own pot if you want coffee or tea in your room. You also pay for WiFi in your room if you did not book through the hotel's direct site - even if you are a Marriot Bonvoy member. These are little things, but this hotel comes with a big price - I expect the little things. Food and drink in the restaurant was good.

Location excellent. Has received a refurbishment but for the price you pay, I expect a bit more such as better WIFI, in room complementary water, coffee etc.

The room had only three small draws and a small closet not enough for two people that are staying for 5 days. That should be mentioned in the room description. I tried to get another room but they said they didn't have any rooms available.

Arrived at 4.15pm and no room, waited 30 mins before giving up and taking a walk. Came back at 6pm with a new receptionist (may have been the manager) and he was very abrupt, no apology given for the delay either. Later during the stay he was more helpful. Rooms are newly refurbished and a good size (we had a twin queen beds room) but there was poor lighting and hardly any space for storing clothes. No water or hot drinks in the room either, but they did give a $50 credit each day for food and beverage. You have to pay $50 Resort Fee, however you do get access to decent chairs, towels, boogie boards and umbrellas for the beach. Parking was expensive ($36) and cheaper alternatives nearby. Overall I felt this hotel was more style over substance, would not return.

We arrived half an hour early before checkin time of 4pm. Understand we are early than promised time so I don’t mind waiting. Front desk said we can have a seat at the lobby and they will let us know when ready. So at 4, no one approached us, so I check again and they said they need more time. And said they will let us know when ready. Asked if I want some water which is right next to reception. Well I will help myself. Then we see more people checking in after 4. So fine we can wait. At 4:40 pm, no one came to us at the lobby so I asked front desk again and then there is a room available. During the waiting time no one ask us anything or offer a drink etc. oh and I have to ask about the welcoming sparkling wine then they gave me one. It’s a self serve hotel. For the price I paid, I am very nice to give them 3 stars ratings.. To be fair, it’s nice and clean but I don’t feel welcome to stay.

The front desk staff was not friendly and rude. The manager of the valet was extremely helpful and accommodating. The location is great

What a nice experience. From check-in until I left 6 days later, there wasn’t one thing that wasn’t perfect. The public spaces and rooms are updated to the highest standards, and the design is upscale and modern. Relaxing space to be in. Location with proximity to the beach and pier couldn’t be much better. Staff (valet, front desk, pool, housekeeping) all friendly and happy to help. I normally don’t leave reviews, but this place is special.

It is a nice hotel but the disappointment from the false advertising and the extra amount we paid for the Juliet balcony that we didn’t get dampered the whole experience. Also food and drinks were significantly overpriced which was annoying

This is a very nice hotel and it’s in a great location. It’s just a few steps from the beach when you exit the hotel near the pool area. The breakfast was nicely done and the food was excellent. My “partial ocean view” room did not really have a view of the ocean.

Room service coffee should not be $25 fior 2 coffee when the coffee is complimentary downstairs. $62 for parking is a little much in top of $500 a night and then a $50 destination fee ridiculous

Hotel was nice and in a great location. Staff were friendly and patient. The only thing I tried that I wasn’t the most impressed with was the restaurant. I recommended staying here
