Rodeway Inn Groton - New London

A 2 star review.Spotted not working smoke detector,only trash can,outside dirty and slightly run down.

Very old building. There has been an attempt at work being done. There had been some exterior work done. There was saw dust all over both sets of stairs that would track into the room. That should have been swept at each days end to avoid this. There was also no vacuuming in the room to compensate for all this saw dust. One of the towels provided had a hole the size of a small dessert plate. The facility had recently gone smoke free. There was still strong smoke odor so strong that my wife could smell it in her sleep apnea mask. There were also staff that smoked just outside the main entry door. Their cigarettes were left laying on top of the door bell button just outside the main entry door. This facility was in Groton CT. All things appeared as though they were oveerwhelmed.

If you’re looking for an unclean, unsafe & downright disgusting place to spend a night or two, then the Rodeway Inn is the place for you! If you looked at the photos provided on Expedia; erase them from your memory, because that is not even close to what you will see when you arrive. The walkway has cat trees surrounded by empty tuna cans. The baseboards are rotted & falling apart. There are rooms with no doorknobs, but web cams in windows. The room will be riddled with the smell of cigarette smoke, cigarette burns (on lamps, walls & sink), water damaged doors, mold, short curly hairs, torn carpet, burned electrical outlets, holes in the wall, sticky carpet. When you realize that this place is not safe for humans & attempt to call the office, you’ll realize they don’t have a working phone.If you go down to the office multiple times, no one will be there. But, you’ll see the little web cam on the counter move & follow you as you walk in. Expedia will offer to refund you once you send the photos over of the diabolical excuse for an inn, but will tell you they can’t do so until they speak to someone in the office, which they can’t do because there is no phone to call. They will however be able to send you some Expedia cash ($20) for your troubles, which you will probably need to buy bleach to douse yourself in once leaving this absolute disgrace of an establishment.

The facilities were falling apart, things were dirty and there are definetly need for upgrades. I will never stay there again,

The room was dirty and cold. Eventually, it warmed up due to my putting the heat on. Why it had been on AC in January is a good question. I waited 25 minutes at the check in for service. The stairs walking up/down to second floor were dangerous.

Room was obviously dirty...not cleaned in corners and debris still there and not picked up.. Blanket and bedspread had holes in them. No coffee pot, hairdryer smashed and broken refrigerator had no freezer and was not cold, so they gave us another one with freezer. Sidewalks ther broken in pieces and there was no wheelchair ramp. Manager was helpful but that is about she could do. The manager was helpful

Older property, needs repairs and updates. Stairs to 2nd floor are rickety. Shower curtain was filthy. Office staff were very nice and helpful.

The rooms are clean and fine for the price, but the outside stairs and hallways are horribly old and dirty.

Entrance to parking lot was a bit weird. Stayed for one night there. I read a bunch of reviews on the property before booking and was prepared for a crappy room. I need a cheap room for a night is why i booked it. The bad reviews made it seem like a horrid place. It was clean and suitable for what i needed. A few cigarette burns in the carpet was all i saw negative during my stay. But nothing like the reviews said. Clean and cheap room.

Room was absolutely the filthiest I have ever stayed in. There were holes in the wall, carpet cruddy and needed vacuumed, matresses were filthy, shower was gross. We didn't even unpack our bags to stay the night.Not to mention the unsanitary area around the motel, including trash and beer cans scattered everywhere. Definitely do not recommend this place to anyone traveling.

Room was not cleaned, there were glass shards cigarette butts, bugs, mold, cigarette burns and bodily fluids around the room.

Beware! Bugs! Dirty! Linens full of cigarette burns, mattress’s old with bedbugs around seams.

There were bugs on the walls. The tub had a patched hole with plaster and brown gold yellow grossness and the mattress was smelly and urine stained and the carpets were very dirty and a foul odor in the room. The pics on the web site make it look like decent cheap option. But we left after 2 minutes in the room and did not stay there

Wasn’t a great place from the moment we pulled in. I’ve stayed in motel 6s that were in better shape. The first room had room on the covers. Dirty floor. Went to switch rooms. That room was even more disgusting. Beds had burn marks from ppl smoking in the bed. Floors were dirty. The bathroom was nasty, looked like it hasn’t been cleaned. We just ask for a refund, not sure if I’ll get it but left and got another hotel. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!

Shower had mold and there were holes in blankets from cigarettes

Absolutely the most disgusting room I have ever rented - left after a few hours - leaky airconditioner, no towels and between the weed and cigarette smell we couldn’t breath - DEPLORABLE

“Non-smoking” room reeked of cigarette smoke. Chain latch on the front door was connected to trim that was cracked and falling off the door frame. Black mold in the shower. Cigarette burns on the sheets.

The place was a dump,the room was filthy I had to go to the office and have them come, change the dirty bedding, the sheets were filthy and the mattress was stained, with what looked like blood we ended up just leaving without even getting a refund we were there for less than a half hour went to fox woods for a couple of hours then went back to the room a grabbed our belongings and drove home 2 hours at 10pm they need to gut that place I wouldn't pay 20 a night to stay there it's really that bad sticky stuff like soda stains all over the walls and dressers the carpet was dirty and stunk it had to be over 20 years old it was really bad, that's all I can say so bad we just left and took the 125.00 dollar loss...

Place was disgusting. Guess that’s what I paid for. Cheap but I was worried what I was sleeping in. Carpets were ripped, stained and had cigarette burns, as did comforters. Chair should have been thrown out, there was barely any leather left on it. Looked terrible. Wouldn’t sit. I wouldn’t walk around barefoot either. There was hair in the tub, and the sink was dirty. All the lamp shades were broken. Only good thing was the tv worked and the mini fridge worked. Inside every drawer was dirty. Every corner of the room and bathroom was dirty and had crumbs and whatnot in them. Spots on the bathroom floor that should be easy enough to scrub away. Just downright gross.

smelled like smoke to the point i smelt leaving the day after. felt unsafe. people banging on doors at all hours of the night waking you up. i would never stay here again. pictures on website dont match up

The hotel desperately needs a renovation. The hot water was not even warm for a shower.

This place is a dump. The smokey smell in the bedroom was outdone by the moldy one in the bathroom.

We book a NON SMOKING room but when we opened the door to the room we were overwhelmed with the smell of cigarettes. The room was most definitely not NON SMOKING. We asked if they had another room that did not smell like a cigarette factory but they said there were no other rooms available. My wife is allergic to cigarette smoke so we left and found another room. Also - there were lots of cigarette butts outside of ALL of the rooms. This hotel is not nice enough for Hotels.com and definitely should not be advertised as NON SMOKING. I demand the refund of our money as this room as NOT ACCEPTIBAL AT ALL!!!

Non-smoker room was clearly used by smokers and left with many cigarette burns on the carpet. Extreme cigarette smell. Missing ceiling light fixture, wires left hanging from the ceiling. Missing light bulb in the standing lamp.

The rug and chair had a tear the TV control was damaged shower curtain rod was damaged the curtain stayed half open AC took time to cool the room and had dirt in it I did not pictures and thought of it when we were already out

There was a persistent stale smoke smell that remained throughout my 3 day stay even after the room was sprayed.

It was absolutely horrible at check in the guy acted like I was a inconvenience for checking in then he tells me sorry we didn’t call or email u but we moved ur reservation to tomorrow when I didn’t need it for tomorrow I needed a place to stay that night he was rude an acted like he just didn’t wanna be there himself it really screwed up my weeken didn’t like his attitude or anything he basically told me too bad u can’t stay here to night u gotta leave when I clearly had a reservation an a confirmation number he said they were booked

Fast easy check in and out

Waited an hour and a half to check in.when someone finally did show they were clearly on some sort of drugs and high. Front desk staff was extremely rude.. problems with the key to my room which involved safety concerns and staff just laughed in my face. Absolutely horrible experience..

Had a room reserved a month in advance. Never got notification of a change, it wasn't changed via the third party service I used. The girl at the counter was extremely rude, with a very bad attitude & swore they were over-booked. Somehow that didnt stop several "street workers" from having a room. Fairly certain they bumped us to pocket cash for rooms given to those women. We were turned away to go find a new hotel in the middle of the night & wasted gas going back & forth with other locations. Didn't end up with a room at another place til almost 5am. I'll never go there again if they pop up when booking in the area.

This property was extremely dirty. We arrived and were given a room next to multiple individuals who were outside smoking and drinking. Our door did not lock, and out bathroom door did not even fit in the frame. It did not feel like a safe environment. We immediately left and had to find other sleeping arrangements.

Sweet staff but this smelly old place is for the desperate only. It was handy for the aquarium.

Tucked away behind an office building next to a huge structure that's being torn down so it's noisy in the morning. Okay place to spend the night.

room was clean, although smelled like cigarette smoke. typical cheaper motel, which is all i needed for sleep & a shower for one night. my only complaint; there seemed to be a lot of random folks hanging out in the trail/woods across from the office. quick & easy check in/out.

Stayed here for one night before the Mystic Half Marathon. It was convenient to get to Mystic, but the rooms are dirty and everything smells like smoke. I have no problems at all with a bare bones motel, but this was bad. Cigarette burn on a lampshade? I would have thought it was hard to put a cigarette on a lampshade, without gravity pulling it down. I was wrong. Half a roll of toilet paper. Someone drew on the wall of the closet (which had no hangers). Strange splatter on the wall by the bed. Group of people knocked on someone's door after midnight and sang Happy Birthday very loudly. This was bad.

This listing is misrepresented. The rooms are dark, dingy, with torn and dilapidated furniture. Also of the rooms are inhabited by long-term residents (displaced low income renters I suppose). They have a higher price for smoking rooms which I definitely did NOT want anyway. I opened the door and the stench of smoke permeated the room as did my clothes (what I did leave out of my bag) the next morning. There is a Motel 6 across the street, stay there instead. FYI I called Expedia (immediately) to see what they could do but of course it was nada.

Property was in a decent location there were stores and restaurants a sort drive right up the street. Room was clean but there was damage to the furniture and wall in the room when we arrived . It wasnt anything that affected our stay since we were there just to sleep after a concert. Front desk staff was very nice and helpful when we had a question. Price was good .

Extremely unsafe hotel. I stopped in and booked another hotel as I was waiting for my room key, because I could immediately tell the place was dangerous. While they were fumbling with finding my reservation, someone came in high and it was clear this was a normal occurrence. Room strongly smelled of smoke. I would not be surprised if this hotel were a hotspot for crime. I locked myself in the room for five minutes waiting for my Uber, and sprinted when I had the chance. My 15 minutes at the Rodeway Inn was the scariest experience I’ve had in a long time.
