MainStay Suites Dubuque at Hwy 20

Oh my. This place needs a lot of work. It looked like it was nice at one time. When we got there around 5pm there was no one at the desk. Just a phone telling us to call someone. We called and the man said he would be there in about 5 minutes. The first room we went to had a broken microwave that wouldn’t close and the heat was on full blast and could not be turned off. The staff were friendly, but didn’t seem to care that we had issues. There was a lot of damage to the property like on doors and walls. Our room door looked like someone tried to break it down and the walls were very scuffed. Lots of stains on the carpet as well. They advertise that they have a pantry with snacks, but it was empty. Would NOT stay here again.

Small rooms. 3 day old breakfast reheated and was not attended to by the 1 person at the desk who was not ever in the public view Doors damaged like someone tried breaking into some of the rooms. Toilet didn't flush without effort. Smell throughout the hall was terrible. There were dirty towels left by the entrances of individual rooms overnight from the day before. Nobody was ever at the desk. Check in involved a lady who didnt have the ability to communicate or smile. No receipts were given. She stopped my son and I and demanded the credit card while being on her phone and wanted me to drop everything to give it to her bc she must not have done something the first time. Used the washer and dryer which was more expensive than most. Dryer didnt dry things fully no matter how many quarters you put in. Had to airdry the rest. One of the dryers was out of order as well as machine to get softener, dryer sheets, and detergent. The whole place had a very dinge appeal and did not feel or smell clean. Only offered shampoo....no conditioner or make up remover and was only given a small bar of soap for the family. No room service came through the 4 days we stayed. Worst hotel we have experienced for the money. Stay at motel 6....it will feel like the Mariott compared to this place.

Hotel appears to have just opened or re-opened, but before it was ready. Numerous details not finished, paint drips, floor moldings rough. Zero housekeeping between first and second night, and not all that clean to start with. Breakfast OK, but subjected to loud Fox news in dining room.

First impression was that property was unkept. Weeds, dirty pavement, boot scrapers caked with mud. Walked into the lobby, boxes were piled to the ceiling. Front desk clerk was very nice, and she put us on the third floor. The elevator had not been cleaned in quite some time. Hallways were dark, dingy, and poorly lit. Scary! The room was in need of updating. Paint coming off the fridge handles, painted (poorly) as we’re the cabinets. We were afraid to sit on the loveseat without a towel. AND the room was overpriced. Way overpriced. Sadly, we will never stay there again. It’s too bad, because the hotel was probably pretty nice a few years ago. Sad. Eoperty

The refrigerator was disgusting. The door handles were all sticky and the finish coming off. The ice makers on 1st and 2nd floors didn’t work. The room just didn’t feel clean. And didn’t find out until checkout that we didn’t earn points because we used Expedia. No one said anything at checkin. In fact we asked about points and the guy told us they would automatically be added.

You advertised this as having a pool. There wasnt one. False advertisement. And it was dingy. Theh breakfast wasnt even put out as it ran out and had to wait for any food.

The hotel is run down and not worth the money. The carts to carry things up to your room are broken. We enter our $300 a night suite and the door won’t open unless you pull the handle to fully close it before entering and I felt very unsafe. We walked in and the cupboard door was missing. The refrigerator looked as if it had been painted and it was peeling off. There was no panel covering the pipes and basin of the sink. It felt more like a super 8 than a suite.

The room was dirty. It was obvious the bathroom counter had not been completely wiped down, as there were toiletries left behind, that would not be provided by the hotel. The "security" door that should be locked at all times in the back was not locked. Anyone could walk in the back.

Place had a weird smell as soon as you walk into the building when we got to our room after checking in the key card did not work so we asked for new cards when those didn’t work the guy working stated to mess with handle until it worked and let us in and would not get someone to fix it or change our room. When showering the tub held water instead of draining. We will not stay here again or refer this place to anyone

Room was dirty and had broken things in it

Our room was not clean. There was crusty food on the counter and stove in the kitchen. There was a good 9x9 hole that was patched in the shower with mold around it. Would not stay here again.

Old food in drawers, no bedding for pullout couch. The chairs had food crumbs on them. The floor did not look clean. I am done with Choice hotels, I thought I would try them again, I was a frequent user several years ago.

Took a shower the first night I was there. When I got the soap package was open and the soap was used so i threw it away and use the soap from the sink. When I finished my shower I went to get the bath mat that was neatly laying over the side of the tub to put on the floor. It was drenched and strained. The worker at the front desk apologized and did move us to a new room. The new room was good

The front desk person was friendly. The breakfast was actually okay- I have had worse. They didn’t have any hot items. They had waffles, cereal, bagels and toast. They had mini muffins and donuts, which my kids liked. The bagels and bread were individually wrapped in baggies. However, the room was just not clean. They are very spacious and have a small kitchen (old)- would be great for extended stays. We were only there 1 night. The shower had an old soap wrapper in it. There was so much dust on the top of the shower you could visibly see it on the top. Needs a deep clean. There was hair all over the floor that was not ours. The couch had stuff on it, not sure what it was. The desk chairs needed to be scrubbed. The room was just really in need of a vacuum , sweep and carpet clean. The curtains were also dusty. Just felt gross. Disappointed because I really loved the space for my kids to run around. But I was constantly worried they would find something on the ground and try to eat it (my 1 year old) . I’m not one to complain. I was a housekeeper and front desk person at a hotel for a while though, so I know when something needs to be cleaned better. Ick

Room was FILTHY! I did not feel comfortable at all. Had to go and purchase cleaning supplies and new sheets & towels. Two microwaves because the one over the stove didn’t work. Stove, fridge & both microwaves were dirty. Please note there is only a housekeeper ONCE A WEEK. I did not see this when booking. The smell was HORRIBLE throughout the entire hotel. LITERALLY made me sick to my stomach. Hotel looks old and rundown. Couch looked filthy did not sit on that thing along with the chairs. Towel were dingy definitely not white. Bathroom had hair in the tub. Splashes and splatter on walls, door, and frames. The mirror in the bedroom was nice. The HVAC System is LOUD. The Air conditioner works well. Barley any staff present at the front desk. Would not recommend staying here.

We go there and they assigned us our room the first room was terrible. They didn’t even clean the room from whoever was staying there. Tv was on & bed was not made, toilet wasn’t flushed. Horrible. Went downstairs to he a different room much better than the first. Called the front because we needed more toilet, they couldn’t bring it up to us we had to go downstairs to get it ourselves. Everyone at the front desk was not dressed professional. All in sandals or flip flops with sweatpants & a t shirt. Definitely wouldn’t not stay here again. Would rather pay more for better service.

So I did try to give this place the benefit of the doubt after staying here at least 5 times in 5 different rooms on different times throughout the year but still got bit by BED BUGS in each room and this visit was no different. After this stay I will not return until they fix their BED BUG problem if it’s even fixable at this time. Each time I’ve stayed, I was bitten by BED BUGS in the bed all over my legs and some on my arms and back, on my previous visit I stayed in room 223 and let the front desk know and they said they would take care of it. This time around I stayed in room 333 specifically and I sat on the couch in the living room for all of 5 minutes eating and I start itching at the ankle and leg, it was 3 am by the time I got in my room so I didn’t want to go to front desk and say anything yet but the next morning when I got up I had bites all over and I went to the front desk and asked for the manager and he told me that he was aware that it was BED BUGS in some places and if I had a problem with it that I should not stay here anymore but he couldn’t give me any money back to refund my room for the extra night that I had. I will not return. It has been a kind of affordable stay at certain times when you need something last minute but that condition of this place is very poor along with the service and management. I will not return and not mention all of the pet hair all over the couch and sometimes the bed and chairs that get all over your clothes and luggage.

Horrible experience. Room was very dirty. Black mold on the wall above the AC. Room smelled like strong urine. The only staff member we spoke with was not pleasant. Stains on furniture. Glad we didn’t spend a lot of time in our room.

Last minute decision staying in town for wedding. Found bed was extremely comfortable, however gum was left on the lamp on night stand. Upon bathroom use next morning, TWO cockroaches were roaming on floor, and many many dark hairs of all different lengths through the shower. Luckily I dont have a weak stomach for either, however very unpleasing circumstances.

For the money I paid this place gets a 2.5 on a scale of 10. Very noisy, people running in hallways, jumping on floor, very dirty room, vacuum wasn’t done, dirt on wall outlets in bathroom. No bedding for hideaway bed. Holes in bed covering... many unpleasant things for 695.00 for a 2 night stay.

I'm pleased I chose Mainstay Suites. Traveled with 4 other family members for my son's basketball game. Booked the double Queen suite. It was perfect for the amount of space.

Beds were comfortable

Chicken bone on the elevator floor. Toilet did not work properly, kept running after a flush. Broken cabinet door in the bathroom. Floors and carpet seemed new and clean. Condition of the refrigertor door sealwas sticky and the door looked like it was painted. Bed was fine.

This is a great play to stay when you just need a basic place to lay your head at night. Room could use an update, but the bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean. Breakfast is basic but something before heading out--

The reason you use a hotel is to have a place to sleep while traveling. We booked a room with a double bed and a pull out bed. The pull out bed was not usable due to a flimsy mattress and the metal support under it. We asked the front desk for help and they said there was nothing they could do. There was no manager on duty or available via phone to help. We had to buy an air mattress for the second adult to sleep on.

No one at front desk. Have to make a phone call to get service. Tub did not drain. Air conditioning did not work correctly. Had it set on 67 never got below 74. T.v.a in the room worked intermittently.

Checked in and was supposed to have a 2 queen one pull out sofa bed suite for my family of 5. I was told they don’t have my room and shifted blame to hotels.com because it is sometimes an issue with third party sites. They only had a king bed suite that we had to make do. I know it wasn’t an issue with a third party site as my in laws were also staying there and my sister in law forgot to finalize her reservation through hotels.commso she called the hotel an hour before we all got there and they got her a 2 queen suite…which was our room. I’m not sure why they would give our room away considering it was already paid for. The front desk staff I talked with the next day even said “Oh, they gave them your room!” The room has a bad odor in it but sufficed for the evening. On a positive note, the room my in laws got was pretty good. Didn’t smell, plenty of space. Breakfast was very limited.

Always a great stay no complications. And if i do ever have an issue they are able to accommodate my needs.

The suite was nice, but all kind of crammed together with no divider between the bedroom, sitting room and tiny kitchen. The bed was very comfortable. The kitchen needed more utensils and a frying pan. When I asked for a frying pan, I got a run around about how she would have to ask someone who would have to ask someone else and it would take a while, maybe the next day. I could not understand most of what the staff said and had to keep asking them to repeat themselves. Guests had to dial "0" at the front desk any time of the day or night just to try to get someone there to help them. Sometimes they wouldn't answer or wouldn't come to the desk, just try to take care of it on the phone. Worst customer service ever! During the four days we were there, no one emptied our trash, gave us fresh towels or washcloths, or even asked if the room needed cleaned. We'll never go back there. And heads up, the hotel next door is owned by the same group.

Employee at check in had ipod in ear and talking to someone while checking in. Unfriendly. TV didn't work. When we came back to hotel after our concert the roim keys did not work. The people that were in the elevator with us had the same ussue and had to go back down to get new keys. Not worth the money

Very nice hotel! Could use some minor maintenance, but overall very clean! Very handy to medical facilities nearby for traveling employees. Need to drive to food options, but no big deal for us.

The hotel was a nice place to say and very convenient.

Definitely worth the stay. The rooms are a bit beat up but nothing extreme. You can just tell this is a place that many out of town workers stay for a longer length of time. For the $86/night it was FANTASTIC! We were there with our local college bowling team and the hotel even made sure there was breakfast early for them before leaving. Give it a stay!

I normally frequent this hotel, but this last trip Ii found out they don't do HOT Breakfast anymore. Which really turns me off. I like having a hot cup of coffee with eggs, or biscuits & gravy now on this trip it was a bagel with cream cheese. Very disappointing!

Not a great stay. There were many concerns starting with the staff. There was never anyone by the front desk and you always had to call for them. The room left a lot to desire. The fridge handle was falling apart and sticky. The stove top was black from not being cleaned. The screens for the window has 2 ft long tears in them. The toilet paper holder was broken and the paper was just sitting on the counter. Breakfast is not edible. The cereals were even stale. The hot breakfast would never pass a health inspection. We left our 3 night reservation after 2 nights. Just grossed out. We tried to talk to someone but, no one was available. We sent in an email and received a notification that they will reply to us in a matter of days. There are plenty of other hotels in Dubuque. Stay there.

The stay was satisfactory. The area was clean and felt safe. The check in was good. The attendant was very nice. The room was clean but the refrigerator was so loud when it kicked in, that is my only complaint. Breakfast was the usual, biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, assorted breads and bagels, little pastries, fruits, waffles. We’d stay there again

I’ve stayed several times before, but this time was for 3 days/nights. Only breakfast offered was COLD biscuits and COLD gravy on all 3 mornings. They were notified about on the first day. Would have thought they would change up the breakfast menu, daily.

There was a dried out coffee filter in my room coffee pot. The breakfast in the motel itself only had waffles for a hot item and the rest was bagels, toast, cold cereal and yogurt.

They were out of coffee at 8:00 am Saturday morning & had to run next door for some. I waited 30 mins & still had no coffee available. I wasn’t the only one wanting coffee.
