Spring House Inn

The Inn is unique and quiet. Old world charm. The staff was very friendly and helpful. While they are making updates, the Inn is kept extremely neat and clean. Pool area is beautiful with a fireplace and the water is crystal clean. Area to walk around and enjoy sitting around a firepit at night. The Dunes national park and Lake Michigan is a must to see.

Nice heated pool and sauna. Also was able to build a fire outside in the swinging area around the fire pit!

Quaint hotel, seems like it is slowly being updated and refurbished. Rooms were comfortable but they could not accommodate our adjoining request, but did give us next door rooms but only available on second floor, and no elevator made it a bit difficult. Pool was also down a flight of stairs. Rooms were clean, but balconies were very dirty/spider webs, etc. they need a good power wash and repaint. Same with pool area, needs some attention to walls, doors, patio. Breakfast was good, enough options for family. Cost was a lot for the area but very limited options, so that’s probably why. Uno pizza next door was yummy but service very slow. Everyone at the hotel was very nice, even had some fun little plastic animals hid around on Sat morning that the grandsons loved searching for.

Needs sprucing up. Water leak in hallway. Pool closed for service. Breakfast was very good.

Warm and a friendly atmosphere. Very good breakfast. Clean. The fitness equipments are a little old and the treadmill is broken.

Overall good! My 11 year old son and I stayed and loved the grounds and the cottage lodge feel. There are no elevators which sucked being in the 3rd floor and the place does have a musty smell in the halls but the rooms weren’t as bad after we left the balcony door open for a few it seem to go away. The breakfast was ok the sausage was gross but eggs were good. There isn’t coffee pots in the rooms BUT they had a free coffee machine 24 hours in the lobby along with hot and cold water. The pizza aT UNO attached was very good. The pool is big enough and nice. Overall especially for the money we would stay again.

It’s a quiet comfortable place to rest. Really close to the Dunes. My family enjoyed the heated pool and sauna.

It reminder me of a german house. Everything was clean but it was old . No elevator but the ckerk was nice enought to give us a room on the main floor. Pool was nice and pool area was clean. Breakfast was ok

We love this place! Its so comfortable, very nice and well maintained, and the breakfast room puts it over the top! The staff is so kind and friendly. We also enjoy the pool and dry sauna! A great perk is the guest laundry room. Since many guests are cisiting the Dunes, that is helpful. Beautiful grounds, beautiful stay!

I absolutely loved this place. Very quaint, loved the decor. Set in the woods. Very cool Pizzeria Uno next door, which used to be a speak easy. Staff is friendly and helpful. I wish we had more time here, but this was a quick overnight stop on a long road trip. Rooms were comfortable and good size, there’s a sauna and an indoor pool. I heard the breakfast is really good we left too early to enjoy it. Would definitely stay here again!

Our first room had a strange, strong odor. Kind of like urine but I assume it’s a cleaning product. The lower level was a bit musty but it’s an older hotel and I knew that when I booked, so I can’t complain about the problems with an older facility. The decor and everything was very cool. It’s a cozy hotel. The staff was helpful and changed our room without any troubles. The sauna had the same strong odor when pouring water on the stove. Probably needs a deep clean. The room was clean, cute, and spacious. Everything worked properly. Breakfast was okay, the coffee machine is nice. I would stay here again because it’s a unique place and I’m not super picky. There are improvements that could be made but I had a good time here and again, staff was great.

The main areas inside are really nice and there are seating areas outside. It's in a beautiful wooded area and super close to the national park. Our room had a smell like urine and stale cigarette smoke, but we would consider staying again.

I would not stay here again. We just took our kids here for a family weekend getaway and the place was BEAUTIFUL dont get me wrong, it wasn’t until the 2nd night I it stay was an issue. The hotel is obviously outdated not a problem until I was sitting in dry clothes in the pool area with a leak in the roof splashing me. As well as when trying to sleep you hear EVERY single sound made from ALL surrounding rooms. The beds SUCKED they were hard as a rock and I didn’t sleep hardly any. The key cards stopped working 4 times total during our stay. The guy at the desk tried to tell me I couldn’t recieve “2 extra” wash cloths for our 4 person room when they only gave us two. The breakfast was not good, the waffles and other warm food was gross. And THE BEST PART ( not literal) WOKE UP SUNDAY MORNING WITH BED BUG BITES ALL OVER MY STOMACH AND BACK! We tried to hurry and leave as quick as possible after learning what bites I had on me.

The room is dated and poorly maintained with wall paper peeling, broken laminate, holes in the walls, chipped doors and a towel bar falling pulling out of the wall. Room was musty and smelled pretty bad. There was no staff at the front desk for 15 minutes upon arrival though I had confirmed my late arrival time earlier when they called. Very overpriced for the quality and amenities being provided.

My room smelled so bad of musty dampness I had to change rooms, then in the new room I had to move the chair to fix the curtains so outside light wasn't blasting in and found a full humidifier. After empting the water basin it ran all night !

Smell of air freshener was so strong in the hallway and room. There was another odor in the room as well, but I’m not sure what it was. It just didn’t feel good for my health. I did enjoy, however, how quiet it was and how dark the room was for sleeping. Good gluten free pizza next door. Overall, it just felt like I paid too much for what the quality of the experience was.

The property is older but charming, nestled up against a wooded area. On each floor there's a sitting room at the end of the hallway with walls of windows on two sides, allowing a view of the woods, a river, and occasional wildlife. The rooms are clean and comfortable. There are some minor things, like an alarm clock that couldn't be reset or no instructions on how to operate the TV, and one room didn't have a TV guide. In one room the door to the balcony didn't lock. The staff is friendly and eager to please, though not always reachable by phone from one's room. Still, overall I would highly recommend this place and will stay there again if I'm in the area. Very close to the Dunes and not far from downtown Chesterton!

Property is in a unique residential neighborhood which was nice and quiet. The only shortcoming of the Inn was the lighting. It was dark in the halls and the room. Could use updating for that reason alone.

This was the second time we've stayed there. The rooms are large and have a good sized frig and a microwave. Both times we stayed, the bathroom fan was obnoxiously loud. So much so, that we would try to avoid turning on the bathroom light, just to avoid the fan's noise.

Quiet and peaceful inn. A nice and clean room was good, butit was a bit of a problem that the soundproofing was not good.

The hotel was low to average quality. Trains are going through nearby and blowing horns audible in the rooms 24x7. Room 310 did not have a hair dryer and the front desk was not helpful in finding a spare or providing a solution (access to a different room that had a hair dryer). Pillows were hard and, although we had hiked all day, everyone in our party had a sleepless night due to discomfort of the beds. I will not stay here again and do not recommend.

It's an aging property in need of maintenance. The balcony door had wood damage outside. The door to our room needed to be forcibly lifted by the handle in order to latch--the staff was aware of this so this was deferred maintenance. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was nothing special, but adequate.

Spring House Inn is in a great quiet location and the hotel maintains a clean atmosphere. I have stayed here 4 times in the last 4 years and this last stay was a disappointment. The hotel I believe has new management or owners. The employees at the front desk are not friendly, and do not smile or interact at all. I remember a couple years ago, how kind and friendly the front office staff were. The breakfast has downgraded massively. I used to be able to request a later check out, that was not allowed this time. I can tell they are trying to cut costs, but the costs they are cutting are disappointing and decrease the enjoyment of our stay. But most of all, the lack of friendliness by the staff was the biggest disappointment.

Charming location. In the woods so there are bugs but it’s part of the woodsy oasis experience. There are places to eat on the property and walking or driving distance to the Dunes park. Rooms are spacious but dates. We had a balcony that was weathered a bit so I did not feel comfortable going outside to stand on it. The view from the balcony window was beautiful and peaceful. There’s a nice size pool and sauna. Breakfast was redundant but decent: egg patties. Sausage links, continental breakfast item, and waffles. Overall, I would stay here again.

We arrived at check in time and the process was seamless. The gentleman at the front desk was very informative and peovided us everything we needed. We were only staying 1 night to hike the National Park and didn't really explore the property. It is ADORABLE though (dated, but so cute), there is an outside firepit with Adirondack chairs, a porch swing, an Uno's pizza and bar. The bartender was not welcoming or friendly, so we got 1 drink and left. Upgrade your room to have your own hot tub because, after hiking, it was NEEDED! We did have to call the front desk to get more towels and had to give them the dirty ones right away...weird, but I get it. We'd definitely stay here again for the ambiance, price and proximity to Leroy's and the National Park.

We arrived at 2:40 pm. There were about 3-4 cars in the parking lot. The lobby and inn looked like empty. The guy at the front desk informed that check in is at 3:00 pm and if we want to check in they charge $20 for early check in haha. $20 for 20 minutes with no one around. It’s not like they would have to get the rooms ready. Then he gave us a room that had the door broke. He told us we would have to lift the door every time when we wanted to close shut because it was “misaligned “. He asked if we want to do that or get a different room. There were other guess at the inn, why would he even offer a broken room. We did ask for another room. The staff is not the friendliest. Will probably stay at different place next time.

No one at front desk when first got there. Said microwave in room. There was no way to heat up our left overs

The property itself was unique. Despite the decor being very dated, the property still seemed clean enough. The breakfast was at best ok. The pool had very cloudy water. I stayed for two nights and they do not refresh your towels which is fine, however I did ask for some clean wash cloths and the front desk would only give me clean ones if I brought him my dirty ones. I thought that was very strange. The location is good for visiting the Indiana Dunes. Overall it was just ok. Also FYI, there are no elevators so if you are staying here try to ask for a room on the main floor. They did accommodate that request

A great check-in on the afternoon of November 2nd, during which we were told by our friendly host at the counter that we could check out 1/2 an hour later than normal. This offer came after we told him that we were repeat customers and very much enjoyed the location. We asked if there would be a charge, to which he said no. Fast forward to the next morning, and as we were packing and getting ready to leave (now 10 minutes after the normal check-out time), there is a knock at the door prodding us to leave. My fiancé explains what we were told the night before but it makes no difference, apparently. 5 minutes later and there is another knock, during which my fiancé explains AGAIN why we were not out yet... except this time we are rudely told that the host from yesterday apparently had "no power to offer what he did". Even if true, how on earth would WE be expected to know that? Instead of recognizing the importance of leaving your paying customers feeling like they are appreciated... (for example- "sorry for the misunderstanding- in the future, please know our check-out time can't be altered" we get an extremely cold brush-off. Turning in my room keys, I get an extremely terse "thank you" and no eye contact from this same lady. We've given this place well over $1500 worth of business over the years and overlooked the often less than ideal room conditions. Over a petty matter of a few minutes you've just pushed us to your local competition. Unbelievably DUMB!

Property was generally fine. Breakfast was very limited, but worked for a single morning. Access to the site was problematic with road construction around the property and some challenges finding how to access the property late at night. Check in was late at night, and we did not have problems getting into the building, but it took 20 minutes for the host to come back.

Nice, National Park Lodge type of ambiance. The staff was courteous and helpful. Location was perfect for Indiana Dunes access. Breakfast left a little to be desired though. And the place needs a little updating. But for the price was acceptable. BUT….the noise from nearby trains during the night did not make for restful nights….

We enjoyed our stay at Spring House Inn. It reminded us of staying in a state park lodge. It is on a large property with a creek, lots of trees, plenty of parking. Our room was large, clean, and quiet. Breakfast offerings included eggs, sausage, waffles, and yogurt. The hotel is very convenient for a visit to near-by Indiana Dunes National Park (visitor center is about a 6 minute drive). We would stay again. In terms of feeling safe and nearness to the park, the surrounding area is great. It is very residential. There is a pizza restaurant next door. No other shops or businesses in the surrounding blocks.

We loved the atmosphere here. It was so different than a typical hotel. Everything was clean and the breakfast was great! I would recommend this place and if we get the chance, we will definitely stay here again!

Easy check in although there is no early check in option but the room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast has an adequate selection but all of the egg and sausage options offered were cold at 7 am when the breakfast opened so we had to heat that up in our room’s microwave because there isn’t a microwave in the dining area. Otherwise, great location and there’s a small pizza place/bar right in the same complex. I would stay here again.

Loved the gazebo and firepit, though it was too cold and windy to enjoy it. Loved the proximity to the hiking I was there for. The room was dated in decor, not perfect, but clean and serviceable, comfortable, and more than adequate. If you are a breakfast person, I suggest you go elsewhere, the pickings are pretty lean in that regard. Leroy\'s "Hot stuff" opens at 7, has tasty offerings and is minutes away.

Great place to stay near the dunes and lake. Easy to get almost anywhere in the area. Can walk across the parking lot to get to Uno Pizza. The continental breakfast includes a waffle maker, eggs, sausage, cereal, yogurt and pastries. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Had a wonderful stay and will definitely include this hotel when I return to the area.

It's a quiet area with a good restaurant on property. It'd be helpful to know there's no elevator prior to booking in case you're with someone that requires it.

Cute atmosphere for the holiday season. Our group loved the sauna to warm up after walking around in the snow. Cute outside hanging areas. We have been coming back for years. Also enjoyed the addition of the pizza uno just across the parking lot. Only downfall was the breakfast. We used to look forward to the breakfast because it was better than your typical hotel breakfast, but this year was not the case. Lacking in offerings, and the sausage was a questionable color.

I've stayed at the Spring House Inn several times, never in season. It was never crowded while I was there. It is set in a little bit of woods very near the Indiana Dunes National Park. It's very quiet, and it's quaint. The complimentary breakfast is not very good, much more limited than most other hotel complimentary breakfasts, and not that appealing. The only nearby dining option is the Pizzeria Uno that is right next door, and it's not open for breakfast.
