Holiday Inn Express & Suites Kalamazoo

Check in went flawlessly. Great check in personnel. Pool was out of service, ice machines were out of service, room lock wouldn't' lock, (moved to another room immediately). they had cinnamon rolls but not the "Holiday Inn" cinnamon rolls but tasty. no waffle or pancake machine. Just not the "Holiday Inn" breakfast that we are accustomed to. All personnel that we were in contact with were top notch.

We booked this location because it was advertised as having a pool. When we arrived we were told the pool was closed permanently six to eight weeks prior to our arrival. Their listings and website need to be updated to reflect this.

Fairly run down. Pool closed.

Ice machine was broken. Had to walk next door for ice. Fire alarm kept us up 15 minutes because someone kept using the side door at 3:00 AM. Other than these two issues everything was good.

Spend the extra money and go somewhere else! The website for the hotel has been taken down recently, the main floor has been without a/c for the last year per front desk, which includes the breakfast area and workout area, the workout room had the key pad ripped out and wires exposed in the door, there isnt a snack/deli , the ice machine has been broken for the last month, we were told to go to the other hotel and use thiers, the pool stunk and was freezing-not heated, so no one swam, they do not have any washer/dryers-but they told us if we really needed to they could wash with their hotel laundry, hotel is non-smoking but our room stunk of cigarettes, opened the window on 3rd floor and there wasn't a screen in it, tub was gross, hair dryer broken, dirty bedsheets were replaced with the managers off her bed- they didn't have extra, room towels were the pool towels, the elevator doesn't have safety feature so it will close on you and kill you, the fire alarm went off multiple times at 1:15am because front desk didn't catch it in time- to turn off, usually goes off at 4am per them, homeless people sleeping outside, and the front desk told us most people walk in to check in, and turn around and leave.

Pool closed, one and only elevator out of order, vending machines out of order, phone in the room out of order, breakfast average, printer out of order so receipt emailed to me, emailed receipt didn’t contain any charges so I had to call back to get it resent.

Pool area in complete disrepair, no towels. The whole building smells musky.

No cars there - no one staying there - changed names and didn't tell me - pool not working wasn't told - yellow stain on sheets

No AC in the lobby or restaurant area, pool was not open, room phone did not work, no towels, room was dirty with wrappers from previous guest left behind

My sheets had blood on them, place was ran down, nothing like the puctures at all!!. Wish i could have gotten a refund. Will never return!!

We had 2 different rooms during our 2 night stay. The first room had hair in the tub, hair in the bed, a grocery bag in a drawer, a stain on the pillows, and a dirty tissue on the night stand. Room 2 had hair in the bed, fries and dirt under the chair cushion, and dead bugs in the bathroom in a corner on the floor. I wanted a full refund and was only given a partial. This is unacceptable.

Our pull out couch had some type of bodily fluid that was dried out on it that had no sheets on it when I asked about it they just gave us sheets to put over it and extra blankets to make a “barrier” between the stain. And the next following day as we were leaving I was told I would get a “discount” on our next stay which I’ve yet to see anything on my account about having any type of discount or reimbursement.

Old, dark, smelly. There was hair in the sink. The desk was not wiped down. The office chair had crumbs on it. One of the towels had a hair on it. The elevator smelled like cigarettes. Free breakfast was minimal and not good.

The place seemed clean enough and staff was fine. There was what seemed to be a couple baby cockroaches one was on the wall when we first walked in and turned on the lights and another in the bathroom, plus other smell dead bugs in a corner in the bathroom. We decided not to bring our bags in from the car. There were many people outside hanging around and loitering and made my son a little uneasy to go out anywhere. There was free breakfast but the coffee wasn't great and we did not eat the food.

So dirty, LOL. Pubic hair everywhere in the bathroom, and dirty carpet. Lawn is over grown, and hotel looks like it’s closed.

The room was very dry and noisy. That made it hard to sleep. In terms of filth, it was mostly fine until I realized there were multiple hairs in the shower in all sorts of weird places. I toughed it out and took a shower. In the fog, the mirrors illuminated the message “I ❤️ Jen”. Who wrote it and when? I’ll never know but definitely the bathroom could be cleaned better

Room rug and bathroom were gross.

This hotel is absolutely horrible. The staff was nice enough, but this place needs a lot of work and better housekeeping. There were stains all over the building and food crumbs all over the floor. The carpets are disgusting and the lamp shades are covered in stains and the outlets barely work. The bathroom sink was leaking all over the floor and at some point they remove the refrigerator from the room I was assigned, but they didn't clean the spot where they took it from. There was nothing but a thick, dusty scum left in its place. This was a last minute booking to visit my son, who is a freshman in college. There were no rooms available in the area because there were a good bit of events happening in the area and the hotels that were available, were price gouging ridiculously. I definitely will plan better next time, but by no means, will I ever stay at this place again.

Loud semi truck noise from I94 was unbearable. Total lack of USB ports for charging phones. Unexceptionable in this day and age. Strange smell in hallways. You can’t cover it up by lowering the thermostat. Ceilings are stained all over the place appliances from water damage. Speaking of water, water noise cycling on and off all nite long. Overall was certainly not worth the money spent here. Because of this experience we will not utilize Holiday Inn ever again. This building is due for a major renovation or razing.

The advertised pool was out of order. The WiFi was out and the television quit working almost immediately. Breakfast was all right, room was clean, but the whole experience left me wanting. And we were there two nights!

Room was clean, check-in was quick. The bed was incredibly uncomfortable, like sleeping on a concrete slab.

The rooms are clean, the staff were very nice; but the hotel needs updating. It was fine for what we needed, and the price was right for the product.

The rooms arent very sound proof making it hard to sleep. The rooms also need to be updated. The bathroom looked old with a dirty shower curtain and mold on the ceiling. The general look of the place looks old and just not kept up but has potential. The fire alarm went off a few times as a fals alarm at 145 in the morning.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was spacious but not cleaned very well. Dead bugs in the corners of the rooms and windows, and even a few live ones. Not much light, had to request a bedside lamp. Staff was very accommodating and helped wherever they could. Very pleasant personalities. An older place that could use some deep cleaning.

Room was good. Bed comfy. A lot of traffic noise from hiway. No ice machines at all. They did have a chest freezer with ice. Staff was super friendly and talkative. Will stay here again.

The staff was friendly and helpful.The room was clean. But the TV did not work, and was stuck on video. The remote did not work to do anything. The air conditioning unit did not work at all. It was very loud and just rattled. We could not change the temperature, heat or cooling, nothing. So the room was extremely stuffy. Kids stomping on the ceiling all night. The room next to us continually knocked on our wall for most of the night.

The staff was very respectful and professional. The room was clean and nice.

Check in was too long. Nobody was at the desk and I had to wait at least 15 minutes for the staff to return from outside with his lunch or dinner. No sign was posted. I literally had to call the hotel while standing at the front desk in order to be able to get staff to help me with my check in. After which the amount of time I had to wait for staff to appear my own dinner got cold. Definitely need improvement in the staff of front desk

There was no room available, even though I already had paid my reservation in advance. The front desk clerk didn’t offer to help me find other lodging, help me initiate a refund, or help in any other way. Just basically “there is no room available for you, bye bye.” Twice in the past, I’ve had hotels that were unable to give me the room I had reserved, though never a prepaid one. In both cases, they had already arranged a room at another nearby hotel for me before I even arrived. One fully covered the cost of the other hotel’s room and charged me nothing. The other covered the price difference between their hotel and the other one. In short, they did what they could to “make it right”. This hotel, however, did nothing, not even the bare minimum. I wouldn’t recommend this property to anyone.

what I DID NOT like was that there was no one at the desk when I tried to check in at 9:00 pm on Friday 6/30. There was a note saying "be right back". I waited at least 30 minutes standing at the front desk until someone finally came. He said he had to 'take care of something' outside. When I checked out the next day, I asked the front desk staff to email me my receipt for the stay - I have yet to receive that in my email. I had wanted to print it, but they could not print it for me at the desk. ALSO - carpet in our room and elevator was filthy dirty. I am very disappointed in staff and room.

The room was nice and the staff very helpful.

The guy at the front desk on the evening of Thursday October 3rd was so helpful and never seemed irritated at our 1000 requests. Thank you!

The staff is very nice. The room and the hotel overall is the cleanest of lower prices hotels in the area.

Paid for three rooms and each room tubs were filty tubs needed replaced. I checked in and paid for my three rooms and left the hotel for awhile and came back. The person at the front desk sold one of my rooms to the guy he was talking to in the lobby when I checked in. Glad I didn't have my personal items in the room yet or they would have been stolen since someone else was occupying one of my rooms. Beware of this hotel.

convenience of getting closeness to our venue, night staff was unfriendly we were in a room we asked for bedding for fold out bed and the front desk lady snapped and said we have no pillows no blankets, she could have responded nicely in a customer service manner all we did was ask. I also had booked 2 rooms we never used the other room but since there were no pillows no blankets we borrowed a pillow and a blanket from the other room and returned it in the morning. ( that is all the other room 312 was ever used for which is crazy) the morning breakfast there was no coffee and no juice at 8:30 in the morning no syrup for the french toast just a empty container so we checked out and went to dennys. next time we will book a named hotel. there was a shooting next door also not a safe area

On the way up to the room I was a little nervous because the property was a little run down, but I convinced myself it was just in need of a little updating/maintenance. However, we got to the room and upon entering we were horrified to find the bathroom in grotesque condition. Urine all over the toilet seat and a questionable sticky substance on the bathroom counter. Shower curtain also gross looking with grime. We automatically start to question if anything else had even been cleaned as the bed looked as if a hurried teenager had made it. We then quickly went back down to the desk to let them know and request another room or for it to be cleaned. They were sold out so could not move us and no one could authorize a reverse transaction so we were stuck. Front desk sent someone to clean but after we got back to the room it seemed as though only the toilet had been cleaned as counter and everything else was the same. We were helpless, and decided to reluctantly stay and touch as little as possible. Thought maybe the tv would help distract us but it was not in working order. Needless to say this was a terrible experience for us, we did not sleep well and made sure to throughly clean ourselves and belongings when we got home. In the morning, we once again stopped by the front desk to let them know how bad of an experience we had. They had me write my phone # down on a piece of paper so the manager could contact me. I haven’t heard from the manager yet and $200+ still charged. 😭

As one who has worked in the hotel industry for 9 years, I will say that it was not that bad but they really should work on the parking lot, The lighting around the property, and the overall condition around the property is not really inviting. If there were not cars in the parking lot you would have thought the hotel was closed down. But I will say the front desk did a really good job checking me in, The room was not bad at all I had no issues with the room, but the fact that the ice machine was down and I was told to go to a different building to get ice that is not good. There was a number of people walking in and out from the streets which is not the best look when they are hanging out in the lobby. But again I would stay there again just for a one or two night overstay visit it's okay.

Place was older but clean. Little hard to find driveway due to lights out and road construction.

It was decorated very nicely for Christmas, however there is an overwhelming mildew smell, assumimg it is from the pool inside. Outside of that very convenient stay to be closer to Wings Event Center.

DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO ANYONE. This property is horrible. The staff is uncaring if you book thru expedia or a "3rd Party". Its location is crappy, off a business route and you cant see the signs to enter...Got to the hotel and there was a small paper sign saying pool was being renovated, not one thing on the site about no pool and the cost was way too much a night for this crap hole. Room was ok, elevator is small, building is old and smelly. Came back to hotel after going out to Whitecaps game to find there was a family reunion that happened there. Found out they used all the ice in the place, and that it was one of the hotel workers family reunion that took place. That price and no ice, 1 broken ice machine and the large manager said that the other ice machine couldnt keep up...Seems to me they should worry about paying customers more than staff using the facilities. Also, the party there was in the parking lot smoking pot and hanging out...There was still no ice in the morning when we got up at 8am to get breakfast. Now on to breakfast, horrible....no pancakes, limited selection of pastries, this was one of the worst Holiday inns that we have ever been too. The room was cleanish, bathroom was dark and dingy and they had only 2 towels. We had to ask for a couple of more since we showered after we got there. Expedia is criminal for making people pay insurance for not being allowed to cancel reservations or book something crappy like this place.

Breakfast was unimaginative. Food supply truck arrived too late first day. Staff called in sick second day. Staff that was there did the best the could. We went elsewhere for breakfast 3rd morning. Card key system had multiple problems. Room for fellow traveler was unmade. Toilet overflowed. Room was quiet and we slept well. All staff was pleasant and tried to overcome these problems. I would pay more & go somewhere else.

I was very disappointed with my recent stay at this hotel. First, the pool was not heated, the bath towels were very cheap, the bathroom faucet sprayed, they apparently were out of hair conditioner, there were only two pillows on the bed, and the “breakfast” was mediocre at best. I decided to call the hotel and speak to the Assistant General Manager before posting this review, and what I got was someone who wasn’t apologetic in the slightest. Again, very, very disappointing. As there are many hotels to choose from in this area, I would not recommend this one!

Older property but in good condition. The indoor pool was out of service. Breakfast was good, hot and decent options. Bed was ok, not the best but certainly not the worst. Overall good for the price IMO.

Every detail of this property was horrible - carpets, walls, dirty, bath towels like sand paper, breakfast a joke. They fresh fruit - one apple, really? Children acreaming past midnight.

So terrible and I was kind about explaining it.

For an economy hotel it was a great place to stay. Rooms were clean and quiet. The staff was very nice and friendly. I only had 2 complaints for the 2 night stay. The refrigerator in the room did not work at all. The free hot breakfast was awesome on Saturday morning. Sunday morning there was no breakfast, conveniently there's a Dennys just down the street. Overall a good economy hotel. It is possible that I would stay there again.

The bed was great. We sleep very comfortably. The continental breakfast was lacking. We got down there in plenty of time but two of the three hot pans were empty. They had trouble with a breaker tripping in the kitchen causing a delay in the food. Overall it served its purpose very well the breakfast issue didn’t deter us. The staff was very accommodating. I would definitely stay again. Great price for a one night stay.
