Hamilton Inn Select Beachfront Mackinaw City

The room was dirty. The tub was dirty. The jetted tub was lined with sand after draining it. We were not on the beach. This came from the jets themselves. Upon a closer look they were dirty. When we mentioned it to the front desk they claimed "the lines are flushed and that is the result". That did not remove any concerns. The bathroom sink didn't drain properly. The screen on the sliding door was taped at the top and the tape was hanging half off. The pool was dirty and the hot tub was filthy. You could not even see the bottom. There was peeling stripping all around the top of the hot tub. It looked too disgusting to enter. The room came with free waterpark passes at a local hotel. It has a couple of waterside and a lazy river. Both slides were closed and boarded up and the plunge pool empty. The lazy river barely moved. We stayed less than 10 minutes. For the price we paid I expected better. I would NOT recommend this hotel.

Propriety was okay we didn't like that you could go in and out of the building anytime without using a key or card

Staff was nice. Accommodations average. Gnats or mosquitoes everywhere including our room. Perhaps pest control for this issue would be prudent. The layout was confusing and outside doors were not locked.

Room was quiet. A bit worn. Pool was dirty. Breakfast was basic, salty and not great.

Easy to park and walk to ferry, bars, and restaurants. Bed was comfortable pillows could be replaced. Hot tub was very good and so was the pool. Breakfast had a few hot options (eggs, ham, and pancakes), waffle maker, cereal was empty, coffee was good, and they offered orange juice and water. I would stay again.

Only one elevator for the whole hotel was not good. Long waits to use it. Weird how breakfast was on 3rd floor. Long waits to use the elevator to get up there or had to take the stairs. Also didn’t like that the breakfast was only from 7 to 9. People on vacation do not want to get up super early just to beat the rush of people getting breakfast. Even if we slept till 8, by the time we showered and waited for the elevator it was already past 9.

This is an older property which needs some upgrades. Only one elevator, definitely a hold up. Everyone was friendly and the breakfast was good.

The hotel room itself smelled like moldy-mildew and the carpet was old and sticky. The pool and hot tub could be much cleaner. The gym is basically non existent, very limited machines and the bowflex was broken. The booking notes that the rooms are sound proof and that is very much untrue. I’d be less upset about it if they didn’t go out of the way to lie about it as a perk.

Delicious hot breakfast each morning, with a wonderful pool and hot tub for relaxing after your day’s adventure. I will stay here again when I’m in town!

Clean, excellent service and quick check in. Clean room, easy to find.

The entire hotel seemed as if it hadn’t been cleaned in years, dirt and hair in the pool, dust along every surface, and even a beer can littering the hallway. The no smoking rule was not enforced, as multiple rooms near us stunk. Staff was kind, but hotel itself was just nasty.

Our room was damp. Carpet damp, bedding damp. The smell was terrible and gave me a headache and had a hard time breathing. The smell of mold and musty. I was very thankful we only booked there for one night. We couldn’t leave fast enough. When we asked for a dehumidifier they sent a maintenance man with what appeared to be a bottle of windex but he claimed it was air freshener. No help at all! We also had black mold growing on the wall.This property needs major restoration done. I would not recommend this property to anyone. The staff check in woman were very rude and made us feel like a burden.

The bedding was never changed from the previous guests. Visible hair and crumbles in the bed.

I wanted to love staying at this hotel but was unfortunately disappointed when I saw the bathroom ceiling and the balcony. The bathroom ceiling was filthy, it looked like there was some black mold growing. We could not even sit out on the balcony due to how many spiders were out there. The screen door on the patio was also taken off so we couldn't enjoy the sound of the waves. All of the windows were dirty and full of spiders. You would think that a hotel that probably makes a ton during tourist season could allocate money to fixing a mold problem and pest control..

Dirty and smelly

The room was filthy dirty when we walked in. We were gone from 7am-5pm and our room never got cleaned. I ended up just asking for fresh towels and never got the room cleaned.

Room smelled terribly musty. Stains on carpet. Dirty knife from fudge from previous guest left on carpet. Very dusty. Hairs in the bathtub. Beds very hard!!!

Everything was dirty, no Kleenex, 1/2 roll to! Coffee pot dirty! I wiped everything down!

Beautiful view. Pay extra for a view of the lake! The room could have been like a foot wider. Beach is wonderful.

Room was FREEZING when we got there and didn’t seem to warm up much, heater sounded like it was going to die any second. Beds not comfy, the sink drain and shower drain were slow so back up. Smelled old and musty. We powered through for our weekend because I didn’t want to lose out on money. We won’t go back though.

Breakfasts they had upstairs was great, the whole place was nice and so was the staff, they had a door that went 20' to the lake, very impressive however the in room jacuzzi in 116 was broken and the jets weren't at full speed due to 2 broken knobs on the tub.

Great location. We had a lake view room and enjoyed a beautiful sunrise each morning. The hotel is old with dim lighting in the hall but a comfortable and pleasant stay.

Jetted tub did not work

Yes the room was clean.. and front desk clerk was courteous… the only issue I had was… the heater makes a pretty loud knocking noise before it actually kicks on… and off… about every nineteen seconds… trust me .. I know… it kept me awake.. it almost sounds like someone was knocking on the door…

As they say in real estate, it's location, location, location. The Hamilton has it in spades. In between the 2 ferry terminals to Mackniac Island, close to downtown Mackinaw City but not too close. Yes you are right on beach, accurate view pictured. After that it starts going downhill. Place has a dingy look inside and out, just not clean, I'd wager bulit in the late 80's to early 90's and minorly refreshed since. Only other positive was the bed as it was fairly comfortable. Where to begin....cable wires hanging from the wall on the TV's, The Jacuzzi? Didn't work, Wallpaper beat to hell, all furniture scratched up. WiFi was abysmal. The 'Free' breakfast you got what you paid for (runny powdered eggs, cold pancakes, sliced ham that was mostly salt). I got the impression the ownership plans to run this place to complete inhabitation and demo the property. I suspect thats many years from now as saps like my wife and I want to be in the area which is gorgeous and plenty to do

Checked in on a Thursday around 6:30pm. I received a call from the hotel earlier that day asking for our arrival time, which I found quite odd. Once we arrived we were greeted rather rudely and given our keys to a 4th floor room. We were not informed the elevator only goes to the 3rd floor. We get off the elevator on the 3rd floor and there was a maid standing there so we inquired about the 4th floor. They replied oh, you take the stairs, it’s not that bad! Well it is if you have Asthma, Sjogren’s and a host of other auto immune disease and are there for 3 days. Unacceptable!!!! We proceeded to contact the front desk and they said it would be 40 minutes until another suitable room would be available. Horror story continues! My husband and I decided in the meantime to look for another hotel, so we found one and advised the Hamilton staff we wanted to check out and wanted the paperwork shredded in our presence. They stated we were going to have to pay for two nights and that we signed for it. I was told I was signing for one car in the parking lot, also return the keys at check out and that I understood what time checkout was as well as extra charges for late check out or removal of any items or damages. We ended up on the first floor begrudgingly and the window would not shut, cold air was coming in. It was 54 with a real feel of 43 and raining the majority of the time. They put a bar in the window to keep it shut and we had the heat cranked to 85 just to be comfortable.

Staff was very friendly. Even called to verify our stay since we were checking in late.

Extremely rude front desk manager!

The manager at check-in was not friendly. She should not be working in the hospitality industry with that kind of attitude. However, the young girl who actually checked us in was patient and sweet. Good location, easy access to the ferry, easy parking. No variation in the breakfast selections for 4 days in a row. Room was small.

Front desk staff was super friendly and helpful. The breakfast was hot and served a variety breakfast food and the server was very helpful. Highly recommend!!!!

We stayed two nights. We had the two bedroom two bathroom rooms both nights the first night we stayed in room 106. Everything was wonderful. It was clean and very comfortable. Our second night was in room 237. The room was comfortable, however it had cleaning issues and the faucet in the back bedroom needs to be repaired. I reported the issues about the bathroom tub being dirty, and behind the beds when I went into plug in my phone, had not been cleaned in forever. In the morning, I reported the issues to the front desk manager. She extremely curt and downright rude. She explained to me that they are there 24 seven and I should have reported it when it was found. I explained we were already in pajamas and getting ready for bed when I noticed the excess dust behind the bed and I was already getting into the shower in the morning when I noticed the dirty footprints in the tub so I cleaned them myself. I just wanted them to know so that it could be fixed for the next customer again she was so rude no apology no thank you for letting her know. Just rude. on a positive note the workers in the breakfast room were wonderful. They could not have been more pleasant and helpful. We were traveling with our 94 year-old mother they more than once went out of their way to make sure she was taken care of and comfortable, to those employees thank you for all that you did during our stay. To the worker at the front desk, perhaps some Customer Service training would be helpful.

Excellent location. Walkable to downtown attractions and right on the beach. Everything was clean and kept nice. The staff was very friendly. We got to the city several hours before check-in, and they allowed us access to the beach and pool while we waited for our room to be ready. We also received wristbands for a waterpark down the street, but we didn’t use them so I can’t comment on that, but it was a nice unexpected extra. Laundry on-site was a bonus. The breakfast was better than your average hotel breakfast, with plenty of seating for everyone. If I ever find myself back in this city, I’ll definitely stay here again.

Overall this stay was one of the worst by far. With Hotels.com I selected to pay at the hotel upon our departure. I received a call the night before my reservation letting me know that my card was declined. I asked why it was ran in the first place and was told it was a preauthorization fee and my room would not be held without another card to run. I refused to give another card and told the manager, Michelle, I would call my bank in the morning, as they were already closed. She was extremely rude and reluctantly agreed, demanding that I call by 9am. I did reach my bank the next day and the payment in fact did go through for preauthorization. A callnwas made back to Michelle and again, she was very rude. Upon arrival at the hotel my husband and I were greeted rudely and charged the rest of our stay even after I had requested to pay after. Our room was not clean, there was a dirty pillowcase shoved in the bottom of the nightstand that remained through our stay. The food was poor quality. The staff was unfriendly. The bed was uncomfortable.The only good thing about our stay was the view, beachside balcony. Even with the view the people were loud and the beach area was often trashed by other visitors. We were very disappointed with the service!

Great location! Easy walk to the city center. Very friendly staff. Clean but a bit dated. Nice beach but shady in the afternoon hours.

Very conveniently located near the Mackinac Island ferry.

I liked the location. Close to the ferry about a 5 minute walk. The hotel is on the beach and chairs are provided .the sunrise was beautiful to watch. The area is quiet. The hotel is older but kept up well and clean. The staff was very polite and accommodating .

We loved Hamilton. Super clean. Close to all the restaurants and shops (walkable). Very close to Arnold Ferry to Mackinack Island. The parking lot is right next-door so you can walk there and not have to pay for parking. The hotel also offers a small discount for the ferry as well. Our room had a quaint balcony that faced the lake. No complaints.

Good location for ferry acces.

The complimentary breakfast was not good.

Room was clean and staff was friendly. Shower drain was slow and breakfasts could use a bit more variety as we stayed 5 nights and each morning was the same hot breakfasts.

Only down side was breakfast was very crowded and congested at the buffet line.

Room was a good size, bathroom was large with double sinks. Bed had 6 pillows for extra comfort. Even though hotel was packed it was quiet. View of lake from balcony was lovely. Only downside was the breakfast. The eggs were powered and there were no cold selections (like yogurt).

Check in was very slow with poor attitude by the front staff and vague and confusing directions on where to park and what door to use. The hotel was very crowded which made for a crowded breakfast. The food was not very appealing. The room temperature was hard to control.

This place should be ashamed of what they charge for this outdated, dirty, overly crowded hotel. 1. Dead bugs everywhere 2. Entire hotel is rundown and old 3. Elevators literally shake and make noises 4. The musty smell was overwhelming. Like a damp basement. 5. Breakfast is literally the poorest breakfast I’ve ever seen. Only drink options were coffee, OJ, water. Foods were: premade rubbery eggs, ham, pancakes, 3 cold cereals, a bowl of canned fruit, make your own waffle (only 2 waffle irons so good luck in that line since each waffle takes 2.5min to cook!). That’s it. That’s EVERYTHING. A Holiday Inn Express breakfast puts this place to shame, that’s how bad it was. There isn’t even a cooler with yogurt or anything. And it is so crowded you’ll wait in a line that wraps the dining room waiting for this. I’ve stayed at hotels for $100/night that were 10x cleaner and better ran than this place. Only positive was that the toilet had its own door so others could ready at the sink at the same time.
