Kandahar Lodge at Whitefish Mountain Resort

We stayed here in the summer for our Anniversary. 1st the Pros: Its a beautiful drive up and down the mountain. The hotel is lovely overall. Everything is so clean. All the staff we encountered were nice and helpful. Large hotub. The continental breakfast was good for what it was. Apples, oranges, pastries, bread, bagels, english muffins, cereal, oatmeal, sliced meat and cheese, milk, juice and coffee. The Cons: When we booked it, the map showed it was in the middle of Whitefish, but when we got there it was 10mins outside of town and up the mountain. I missed that somehow in the details I guess. There is only about 6 or 7 parking spots in front, otherwise you have to park across the street and down the hill. This was difficult for me with my health issues, but it wasn't too terrible. When you walk in- there is a weird smell, it's difficult to explain, like old-smelling (but the entire hotel is very clean) There is no elevator in the hotel so you have to carry your luggage up the stairs (the hotel offers help carrying luggage if you need it). I'm unsure how anyone in a wheelchair would get around this. The hotel could use an update. There was a deeper smell in our room. We opened the window to let fresh air in and kept it open. The room is a bit smaller than we expected from looking at pics. There was either mold, or stains that look like mold on the bathroom ceiling. We would definitely stay here again though. It was a lovely time.

We love the continental breakfast and the large hot tub. If you are in a loft room, be aware there are a lot of stairs to get to your room.

Kandahar Lodge has a gorgeous location and a very friendly and helpful staff. Sitting in front of a roaring fire in the lobby fireplace after a day of hiking was a real treat. The Lodge, however, does have some definite, maintenance issues: the steam room was out of order and the hot tub died during our stay. I had repeated difficulty with the door lock on my room (though the staff was always quick to help out!). The restaurant is currently closed and the continental breakfast was unappealing.

Really enjoyed my stay here. The fireplace was always being tended to. The breakfast hours and selection were good. Hot chocolate,cookies and popcorn after returning from snowboarding all day was chef's kiss. The hot tub was huge and steam room were amazing to relax in. The rooms were spacious. Shower pressure great and hot water that did not run out. Full size coffee maker in our room was nice! Beds were comfortable with extra pillows. Having a ski room (for equipment) was top tier! And ski in ski out!!! ❤️ Dan at the front desk was extremely helpful.

There is not an elevator. We had to go up all those stairs with our luggage. We were on vacation for 2 weeks, traveling everywhere. Breakfast was not good. The checking lady when we got there was not friendly. The lady in the morning was nice. I will never stay there again

Did not like parking.

I make sure to always stay at Kandahar once a year for a trip to Whitefish and Glacier Park. Incredible Jacuzzi and the steam room is one of the best! Great rooms, great beds, and quick access to the top of the Mountain.

Beautiful location and lovely hotel. The shuttle to the ski resort was very nice as well!

We loved our stay here. The lodge is adorable and perfect for a ski getaway. Breakfast is high quality and better than most continental breakfasts. My kids loved the mini Nutella spreads. The rooms were perfect and as described. The resort was true ski in ski out and they also offered a convenient shuttle to the base lodge. Hot chocolate and popcorn snack was an awesome bonus every afternoon. We will definitely consider coming back.

Our room was quiet, well appointed, and very clean. A nice continental breakfast is included. Staff is extremely helpful and friendly. The only negative, although vacuumed, the community carpeting needs cleaning!

This was an ok property. They had limited parking, so we had to trek up the hill to get to the lodge. This was ok during the day but got a little scary at night when we had sighted a cougar about 50 ft away and we had to book it back to the lodge. Hiking trails all around, we did go on one and it was beautiful. Staff service was good. The room was ok but not great. It was a decent size but we did find that the underneath of the table in front of the couch bed wasn't clean and there was rotten food underneath it (ew!!). Shower was OK but the head didn't really have a lot of pressure. Bath was amazing though. The view we had from our room kinda sucked. We decided not to eat breakfast here due to lack of healthy options - pretty much everything they had was loaded with sugar (cereal, muffins, doughnuts) and didn't have good nutritional value. This sucked cause it was my birthday. BIL said the gym was really good and they had more to do there than at the other properties we were at.

Great location, very clean and beautiful lodge. We loved the lobby area with the fireplace and that we could do our laundry. The room was nice and the beds super comfortable. We will definitely stay here again. We love Whitefish, Montana.

We really enjoyed our short stay here. It has a mountain vibe , cozy and clean! Will be staying here again the next time we are visiting.

The property was very nice and staff was incredibly good. The only detractor from our stay was that our air conditioner wasn’t really working in our room that being said, we didn’t really tell them about it until the end of our day, so it’s really sort of our fault

I stayed on the 3rd floor. The room had a loft with a bed. It was wonderful to be able to spread out. Most hotel rooms are tiny. The breakfast was incredible.

Staff was great and accommodations were as expected. Wi-Fi was extremely slow. Below 1.0 mps. I called prior to booking and was assured it was high speed. We had to book another place in Kalispell because the WiFi did not work for our work for an important call. Unfortunately I was unable to cancel this reservation as we didn’t find out about the slow WiFi until we arrived. In the future let your guests know you don’t have high speed internet.

The Kandahar Lodge is ranked one of the top ten places to stay in the Whitefish area. I booked it for the ratings and location up on the mountain. The staff was nice and helpful. To be honest, it was a throwback to the 1980s-1990s. Our room was straight out of the 80s-90s except for the flat screen tv. We were on the "second floor," which was actually the third floor. We got there later in the evening. The front desk attendant and another man helped us haul our luggage up the multiple flights of stairs. I think they are used to it. The accomodations are fine and clean, just not updated. The room above us was occupied by a family and sounded like someone was teaching a ballroom dance class, all night long, four out of our five night stay. I discussed it with the front desk after the first night. They said if it happens again, meaning keeping us up all night, they would look into it and maybe say something. We just dealt with it. The Kandahar Lodge was built, apparently, before soundproofing materials and elevators were in every hotel. It would be hard to retrofit one, but one is surely needed. It's quaint and nice with a nice staff. For the ski season, it is located next to a lift.

The hotel was gorgeous rooms look like they had been recently updated. Plenty of usb and plug ins for all your electronic devices.

I was very disappointed in Kelly at the front desk. She did tell me I was too early to check in 1:30 pm and I could relax in the lobby, which I did. She told me she'd get me as soon as my room was ready. I saw Kelly leave at 3:05 Pm and a new you man take over the desk. I walked up and he told me mine and all rooms where ready. Hence - Kelly just left me sitting and was only focused on when she got off of work for the day!

Not handicap accessible at all. Rude, hateful lady with no compassion (Greta) at check in. Old facility. Supposed to have a restaurant, it has been closed down. I feel like I hate way too much. I was unable to get to the fourth floor since they have no elevator. So I was downgraded to half the size of my original room requested a refund on the difference they would not give me a refund. I would not recommend this place at all.

The staff at the Kandahar were top notch! The property is not the newest on the mountain, but they addressed any issues that we had. We had rowdy neighbors on our first night and we called down to the front desk and they shut them down immediately! I would gladly stay here again!

Horrible front desk staff!!! Our room was on the top floor (3rd) with no elevator, and 7 flights of stairs from the parking lot. We did not know this prior to making the reservation. We had lots of luggage and are in our 60s. No help was offered (even though we saw a note once we hiked up to our room that help was available with luggage). We told the front desk gal (Greta) that this would be very difficult for us. Still no help offered. She laughed at us saying she didn\'t design the lodge. Staff would not budge on relocating us, telling us that\'s the room we booked. Tough. They could not care less. Plus, no AC in the loft portion of the room where we were sleeping, in the summertime. Super hot in the loft!! All beddings are winter beddings, with a wool blanket. Evidently no change made for summertime accommodations. Never again. Don\'t go there. The staff don\'t care about us. This is a winter lodge at a ski resort that charges a fortune for a top floor room with no elevator, and provides little to no service in the summertime. Unfriendly. They need to be reminded they are in the "hospitality" business.

I mean, the guy named Marc at the front desk was amazing, and breakfast was phenomenal. But one female front desk person wasn't intending to help, like when we asked how to go to Glacier or Flathead. She was trying to avoid us, so yeah, overall, it was good.

The staff treated you like family they even helped us find our next hotel told us a lot about the area we can’t say enough about how great the staff was Michael and Lacey and Max they offered a lot for breakfast. Our room was clean housekeeping was wonderful hiking right outside the hotel was wonderful.

It is in a woods setting, beautiful scenery, and a lodge feeling inside. It is a little far from the main part of town. We are a more mature couple so carrying our things upstairs was a little challenging. Overall a pleasant experience.

Staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. Perfect ski in ski out location on the hill for a very reasonable price.

This was a very nice place to stay. Due to availability, it was not as close to Glacier Park as we would have liked (45 minute drive).

This is a beautiful resort, the room was really nice, and the grounds/gardens are beautiful! The downside it is up the mountain about 10-15 miles. There are no cafes or restraunts up there. The continental breakfast if okay. There is no elevator so getting luggage up three flights of stairs was challenging.

It was fine and relaxing. However if we would have stayed in whitefish (vs in the mountains past whitefish) we would have had much better cell reception with Att It was nice but in the summer there’s not much to do here on the property. Should have save the travel time and stayed in whitefish or Kalispell or any town closer to glacier NP

This is a ski lodge area, and very pretty. We visited in June. Unfortunately, the restaurants, bars, and cafes there were all closed. Apparently, the owner is trying to sell. So we had to drive for a ways to get dinner. Whitefish is a cute town, though. The lodge is rustic and comfortable.

charming, privately owned lodge, with great staff, quiet and magical lodge lobby with huge fireplace and tons of antique couches in front of the fire. Games on the bookshelves for those who love games or amazing history books. Kids loved the hot tub which somehow was never busy. Beautiful woodwork and lodge atmosphere. Easy 45 minute drive to Glacier National Park west entrance. Only 15 minutes down the mountain to Whitefish. One of our favorite places :-). a hidden gem

Property location is nice and safe for families and 30 mins away from glacier national park main entrance.We didn’t like the continental breakfast that they serve and they could make it better in the future.add some scrambled eggs,sausage and potatoes etc.need some updated renovations.

We had an incredible stay at Kandahar Lodge and can’t recommend it enough! From the moment we arrived, the staff was friendly and welcoming, creating a warm and comfortable atmosphere throughout our visit. The location is perfect—just a short walk to the base of the mountain where we enjoyed hiking, biking, and the scenic chairlift to the top with stunning views of Whitefish and the lake. The mountain also offers a free shuttle to town, which made getting around super convenient. The highlight of our stay was without a doubt Buchanan’s Chophouse. We ended up dining there daily—the food was consistently excellent, the outdoor patio was perfect, and the service was top-notch. Huge thanks to James, the owner, who personally made us feel at home, and TJ, the bartender, who served up amazing drinks and great conversation. This lodge offers the perfect balance of adventure, comfort, and hospitality. We’re already looking forward to coming back this winter to ski and wouldn’t stay anywhere else! Thanks again for everything!

The staff was friendly, helpful, quick to respond, and great all around. The loft rooms were pretty spacious, but there were a few cramped spots that would have been uncomfortable for taller people. The lack of an elevator was a concern when I checked in. I was traveling with my elderly parents and one of my legs was not a happy camper and having rooms on the 3rd floor was challenging the first day. But they carried out luggage to the rooms for us, which helped tremendously. The breakfast food was a bit of a disappointment, but the staff kept everything stocked and plentiful. It would have been nice to have at least one or two hot items, excluding the oatmeal and toast that were always present. It was cold enough for the last two days of our stay (in August!) that they had the fireplace going. The smell of the burning wood was really nice and it was a nice treat.

We had a nice stay at this lodge. Be prepared there is no elevator. We were on the third floor and it’s a hike upstairs with your luggage. Also the restaurant and bar are closed. Made it a challenge for dinner up on the mountain. Breakfast was good and ample.

When we booked the reservation four months ago we were expecting a complete resort experience. Upon arrival we were told all bar and dining facilities were completely shut down and the property had been sold. If we had known this in advance we would have selected another hotel. Even the vending machine was not working properly!!

The lodge is older but it is nice. The staff was friendly and helpful and the room was clean. Some things I didn't like is that the restaurant was closed which would have been nice to know when I booked the room. Very limited dining options in close proximity. The room appeared much bigger in the picture. There is no elevator so hauling luggage up to the 3rd floor was a little challenging.

We loved every minute of our stay here - the Lodge is an amazing and historic building that is very impressive inside and out. TJ the bartender was super fun and friendly, as were all the staff we interacted with. Dinner at Buchanan's was exquisite ... we can't wait to come back!
