Extended Stay America Suites - Red Bank - Middletown

I have never taken the time to write a review about a hotel, good or bad. But in this instance, I feel a duty to warn future guests what an absolute DIVE this place is. Upon entering, you are confronted by a big TV screen that displays the front desk you’re standing in front of, with a big flashing crawler that informs you that you’re being recorded, like a liquor store in the ghetto. The lobby was beat and looks like it hasn’t seen a coat of paint (or a mop) since the Obama administration, and the giant washing machine for towels is oddly right behind the front desk, tumbling away, which accounted for the acrid stench of bleach—a lovely touch. The “receptionist,” who was also washing towels (see above), asked for not only my ID, but my wife’s as well. Not a good sign—a prostitution issue, perhaps? Then there’s the incredibly misleading photos of the rooms at this (ahem) “hotel,” as if they were taken 25 years ago). The rooms were filthy. The doorknob on the bathroom door was missing, with (I kid you not) a plastic shopping bag stuffed into the hole for “privacy.” The window curtains were hanging off to one side, and food particles were splattered all over the inside of the microwave like a Jackson Pollock painting. The bathroom countertop had dozens of cigarette burns, and my wife was afraid to sit on the bed for fear of bedbugs, which illustrates just how bad this place is (and why we turned right around and left, our demand for a refund refused). Do NOT stay here.

The girl at the front desk was so helpful and sweet. She made the stay. You can get anything needed such as utensils by going to the front desk. Clean, great location, easy parking. Would stay here again

The staff takes a photo of your drivers license on arrival which I don’t like. Yes, they have to look at my ID, but why take a photo? Also, the walls of the hotel are so thin that I could clearly hear cleaning staff speaking normally in the hallway at 4:45AM which was right after the garbage truck made a racket outside my window picking up the trash container. Does that really have to take place at 4:30am at a hotel where 95% of residents are likely sleeping? Not good for the price.

The place was very dirty. There was a whole peach pit just laying in the hallway by our room. The floors were incredibly dirty. I mean you get what you pay for and the place was cheap.

Staff was extremely helpful upon check-in. Room was spacious, clean, cool (key when visiting during a heatwave) and quiet (despite numerous thunderstorms and close proximity to the highway). The only negative is there is no covered entrance for unloading or loading during inclimate weather (especially useful for a disabled traveler such as myself).
