Residence Inn by Marriott West Orange

We were in New Jersey to visit family. The room was very spacious and clean. Also, the parking was very convenient. The mattress on the bed was concave to the center and the top sheet had a hole in it. The bedding rated a C- score. The ‘included’ breakfast was just marginal although the coffee was very good.

Attractive inn. Needs renovation. Looks like the 70’s with brown rugs and furniture. They are redoing the swimming pool and other areas at this time.

The hotel itself is beautiful, with a pleasant outdoor eating area and a nice breakfast. The woman working at the bar was also very kind. However, be warned about the "hot tub" whirlpool. The chlorine levels were so strong that my dark blue bathing suit came out light purple and blotchy after just one use. I've been in countless pools and hot tubs in my life, and this has never happened before. The hotel claimed the chlorine levels were "within range" after inspection, but if the water can bleach swimwear in minutes, something isn't right. If you plan to use the hot tub here, wear an old bathing suit you don't care about, because there's a real chance it could be ruined. Other than that, my stay was fine

Nice property, but next time I would only stay Thursday through Saturday. Sunday through Wednesday the restaurant and bar are closed. Does tell you that while booking.

Cool building and courtyard.

We booked this property primarily because of 2 reasons. (1) close to Montclair downtown and (2) the pool. Planned to use the pool in the afternoon then head out for an early dinner before catching a show at the Wellmont. Pool was not available for some reason that Friday afternoon and it was disappointing. It would have been great if that was announced/mentioned and I have booked elsewhere. For $300/night pool maintenance should’ve been at a time when it was not supposedly scheduled to open. Staff were friendly and helpful and the room was very clean. But again I could’ve paid a lot less for other properties with no pool and equally good staff and cleanliness.

This property is gorgeous. Abuts the West Orange Manor and has the loveliest and most peaceful grounds. The staff was super friendly and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The indoor pool and jacuzzi was nice however if you like a nice hot temperature in the jacuzzi you may be dissatisfied. The temperature was no warmer than the pool. Breakfast was adequate but if your looking for a gourmet experience you may have to go elsewhere. But for free food it was good. Also if you like your room cleaned everyday you will have to request that specifically. We were there for five days and the staff didnt clean the room once because we didnt ask for it. But they were very prompt with anything we requested. Overall very nice stay.

This hotel is absolutely adorable. It's a comfortable home you are a guest in and the amenities are perfect for a quick get away. The breakfast is exceptional for a free breakfast buffet. And the furniture in our suite appeared newly updated. Unfortunately, I have a little more to say on the negative side than the positive. The floors were not clean.There was small pieces of garbage we found and we felt our feet sticking. We asked to have them clean while we were away and it was evident this cleaning occurred. However, it appeared to be a spot clean. There was ketchup still stuck on the kitchen floor. We had not eaten or drank in the room. Upon further exploration, we found mold on the walls in the bathroom, 3 hairs in the supposedly clean shower we had not yet used, rust and grime built up on the floor near the toilet and the base of the toilet, soap scum built up on the shower wall behind the soap provided that I was easily able to scrub away myself, spots all over the full body closet door mirror that left me questioning if it had been cleaned in the last month, grimed visible on table top surfaces, a hair tie on the bathroom counter behind the tissues left from previous guests, and poor craftsmanship throughout the room including an exposed wire above the main entry door. The only reason we slept here is because my wife could smell the bleach on the sheets but she couldn't even bring herself to shower here. We will not return.

The property is visually appealing appears to be a higher end older building. The pool was down during our stay. There was some light dust/fuzz in the corner of the bathroom and what appeared to be a small spot of "bathroom mold" above the shower in the corner of the ceiling. But other than that we enjoyed our stay and breakfast was good also

The room was not as clean as it could be, missing drapes, and we have been charged twice for our stay.

Everything was clean and the room was very spacious. My 7yr old loved the pool. The garden was very nice. You actually have use of the grill if you like grilling. Breakfast was very good.

hot tub wasn't hot, bathroom fan was loud, the luggage cart needed hooks, the mattress in the pullout bed was very old but the room was clean and well stocked.

We loved the room but the walls are so thin! We heard the people next door as if they were in the room with us.

Stayed here multiple times. Great place, my main complaint is if you have 3 people the pullout couch is HORRENDOUS. They are extremely uncomfortable. You are better off sleeping on the couch and not using the Pullout bed. The mattress in the couches need replacing 0/10.

Great room size for a great price

Not a bad stay, employees were very nice and friendly. Rooms and overall facilities seemed a little dated. Bed was not very comfortable, and this location has wrap around hallways so I stayed far from the elevators. Overall enjoyed the stay here.

Common areas were gorgeous and staff was very helpful and pleasant. Rooms were a bit dated, ceiling paint peeling in bathroom, sofa was missing grommets, tears in carpet… Also the TV wouldn’t get any channels but HBO Max, which was just odd.

Lived everything about this hotel, great staff, extremely comfortable suite and a good location.

Very spacious for our family

We have stayed here before and loved it. This is the reason why we returned. This time we had a room that was adjourned to another and we could hear everything in the other room. Mind you the guests were not being loud but the door was not enough insulation between the room. Everything that they said was audible. Every cough, every cry, it was terrible. We essentially did not sleep for two days.

The front desk concierge was extremely helpful and cheerful with everything! I really appreciated the energy she brought to each of our conversations.

We had a family of 4 adults in our suite. No pillows or blanket were provided for the pullout bed..only 3 bath towels ..requests made to front desk ..we were told if they had someone to deliver them.. never got pillows, blanket or towels .. Will never stay there again !

During our stay we had 2 rooms. Upon checking it my son and his wife, noticed toilet water levels was low, so they flushed it. It backed backed up. When they called front desk for assistance they were told where to find the plunger so they could do it themselves. I've never heard of such service in a respectable hotel.

We have arrived and there was no receptionist at the desk and we had to wait for about 10 min with a little baby in the car sit to check in. We were informed after arrival that we won’t have water from 8pm that day for 6 hours. So, no shower after dinner and then no way to use the toilet. When water came back after 2am, it was yellow so this is how we took a shower in the morning - dirty water and barely warm! We were not informed prior to our arrival that we won’t have water! Baby needed a crib that hotel offers as a service. We had to call 3 times to get a pack and play. When it was delivered to our room, the mattress/bottom part of it was so hard that no one would be able even to lay there! I can’t even imagine how baby would sleep in it. So, we had to find other ways how our baby will sleep. Room was dirty, dirty fridge, toilet, mirrors! Destroyed sofa! Room looked not very presentable. And final - breakfast! It was a joke. We only got scrumble eggs and sausage sandwiches with not toasted not fresh English muffin. Some yogurts, granola and oatmeal and pastry. No potato, bacon, so other options that can go with eggs. No fruits! We had nothing to choose from basically. Try to check out, nobody at reception! Waited again until cleaning lady called somebody. Check out process was unpleasant, we only heard good bye from the lady and that was it. We travel a lot and are very understanding and not picky customers, but that was the worst stay that we could imagine!

Hidden Gem! It's an excellent hotel with fantastic service! Ms. Katie greeted us with a smile every morning.

We thought The Marriott residence would be just fine, but it exceeded ALL expectations. The staff was exeptionally helpful. The layout and interior design of our quarters were creative and optimal. The building was spotless. The location was perfect for us. We have promised ourselves that whenever we return to the area, this is where we will stay.

Chit Chat Diner is nearby and very good! It is large and has a great view of Manhattan!! The hotel restaurant is only open on weekends. This Residence Inn is beautiful!!
