Staff were all very friendly. We loved the history of the property and area. Grateful for ceiling fans in the room!

Staying at La Fonda was a fun and wonderful experience! We stayed in the penthouse, which was really nice and full of character. The living room is sunken, so there are about three steps wherever you go. The hotel is filled with beautiful, eclectic art and charming little doors everywhere. A really unique feature was the window in the living room floor hidden under the rug, which looks straight down into the lobby! The fireplace also added a great ambiance to the room, and we got to see the "special art" as well. The staff was incredibly friendly and the entire hotel was very clean. The only downside was the outdoor area, which was in need of repair and did not look completely safe. It would have been great if that had been a usable space, but it was fine because everything else was absolutely wonderful.

Staying at the La Fonda for my husband's 81st birthday was a treat! It is a very unique hotel....a true taste of the southwest! Its location on the Taos Plaza is perfect for shopping and dining. I highly recommend it for folks looking for an authentic Southwestern experience !.

Booked La Fonda in Taos to be near restaurants and be in a place with a little history/character. When you book a hotel like this you expect some quirks. The room was classified as a suite and had a separate sitting area and bedroom with the bathroom in between. The bathroom was a bit of an issue, as it is at a higher floor level than the rest of the room (a step up.) The bathroom tub/shower was safety issue with a tub bottom that had no mat or non-skid and was pretty slippery. There was a mini-split type AC unit in the bedroom that was set at 64 degrees when we got there, but depite that it was pretty stuffy in the room and it seemed to run constantly without making any difference. The room seemed reasonably clean, but the wood floor areas need a good scrubbing as evidenced by what light colored socks picked up when walking in the room. The hotel charges $10 per night to park in a gravel lot behind the property. There is access to the back of the hotel from the lot, but there are spots in front of the property for loading/unloading. The elevator is in the back and closer to the back parking lot but gravel is not luggage or luggage cart friendly. On the day we were checking out, access to the street in front of the hotel was completely blocked at about 9:00am. I am guessing there was some sort of event that day, but there was no way to get a car from the parking lot to the loading zone in front of the hotel. Front desk was unaware and no help with the issue.
