Port Jefferson is beautiful, quaint, and very walkable, with restaurants, ice cream shops, harbor views, and a charming small town atmosphere. Danfords has a fantastic waterfront location and looks gorgeous from the outside and in photos. Unfortunately, our hotel experience did not match the setting or the price. Noise was a major issue. Between the ferry horn, motorcycles, traffic, trucks, deliveries, and garbage collection, our room was extremely noisy. We were awakened around 4:30 a.m. Our advertised “city view” was essentially the trash compactor, garbage, old tables, and a parking lot. Our room was in a separate building across the street from the main hotel. The room itself was very dated, with old carpet, poor bathroom lighting, older finishes, and an awkward layout. The bed was comfortable and the shower had plenty of hot water. My biggest concern was cleanliness. Hallways, elevators, and common areas had a musty smell, and the lobby bathrooms needed much more frequent attention. We also found the hotel very inflexible regarding reservations booked through third party sites. This property has tremendous potential because the harbor, town, and location are wonderful. But at premium summer rates, the rooms and common areas need significant updating, better soundproofing, and much more attention to cleanliness. Once inside, it felt much closer to a budget motel than the upscale waterfront hotel the photos and pricing suggest.

I was impressed with the outside of the hotel but that was it. The staff are all friendly and the lobby is comfortable. The Pearl Restaurant was dark and pub like which was nice and the food was tasty in the restaurant. My room had all stains on the rug and the tiles in the small bathroom were all broken with moldy grout. Be prepared if you book overlooking the harbor. The drapes do not pull open as it is really a parking lot between you and the harbor. So there is no outside deck to get that smell of the ocean as it is old draw drapes without a view. Car alarms went off 3 times at night so sleep was difficult. I came home exhausted and left early. My turn off was the handicapped bathroom was marked out of order in the main lobby area servicing the bar and restaurant and very old. Many flies were in the corner of restaurant in the morning landing on the glass corner window , my table and food. I do not think it was cleaned from the evening before. The service and people were great very pleasant. I’d not return due to the condition inside the property for the entree prices.
