Room was nice and comfortable the hotel is old and elevator was scary. Employees were nice and helpful.would stay there again

Free parking and perfect central location, what's not to love

Motel could definitely use some renovations. There were cracks in the walls and ceiling and what looked like mold in the bathroom window sills and along the base boards next to the toilet. Coffee maker looks like it hasn't ever been cleaned on the inside. What can you expect for a room that was only $75 a night, I guess. Bed was nice and free internet was fine. Hot tub was under maintenance. You can find a much better Air BnB for this price.

Room very basic. Not good outside lighting for parking lot. Motel very old but too. Updated. Elevator is antique but does work.

What you get from Metropolitan is a room for the night. The check in area is unkept. The elevator is filthy. The rooms are old and dated with comfortable beds. Homeless people feel comfortable on premises. All that being said it's amazingly quiet at night. Although it's the cheapest motel downtown, I would not recommend it for middle age up.

Perfect location in downtown SLC. The property is older, needs some sprucing up on the exterior, but room interiors are nice, clean, and the value vs. price is excellent.

Lemme preface this by saying that I have fairly low standards and at the end of the day, I don't really read bad reviews. I just want a bed to sleep in. Just gonna be honest about what I noticed: The beds and pillows are pretty hard. The bathrooms have everything you need but are kinda old and there was hair in the shower. There was also hair on the bed. There's an iron but no ironing board. The fridge didn't work and was stinky (specifically in 219) and the guy said he'd call maintenance but they never came. On the website they advertise free breakfast and a pool but there are neither, at least as of July 2025. The elevator makes funky noises but works - we still used the stairs. Could've been a personal issue but my card kept getting deactivated and we kept going back for more cards. The ice machine works, yay! It's downtown which means you're minutes from major restaurants, coffee shops, malls, etc. The AC makes rickety noises but works GREAT. Some sketchy people in the area. They didn't necessarily look threatening but I wouldn't walk around at night. General tip: Mormon 4th of July is on July 23rd I guess? Lots of fireworks from 10p-12a. Overall, it did the job but maybe not worth the 70/night. It's up to you.

The woman working the desk when I checked in was awful… rude, impatient, I didn’t ask for anything specific just a basic check in but she was rude and acted like I was a bother… the elevator up to my room was sketchy at best… the peep hole through the door so scratched up its hard to see through I had to call tech support to connect to the internet and despite signing up for the higher speed it was spotty at best… just generally not a great experience.

It would have been good to know that they require a $100 CASH deposit, so we could have been prepared. The room needs lots of repairs, but the bed was comfortable and we slept well. Also, the info pictured a pool, but they told us no pool and had not been for a long time. That was VERY disappointing.

Sheets of paint falling from the ceiling in the bathroom. Wads of hair stuck to the shower walls.

Pay the extra 20 bucks to stay a few blocks down the street. I’ve bargained some hotels in my time, let me tell you this is the absolute dirtiest, stinkiest, and worst hotel I’ve seen. Mice running around the halls, mold in the shower, terrible AC. Take my word, wouldn’t be worth it to stay for free.

If there’s only one place left in Salt Lake City and you absolutely must, then stay here, at your own peril. They’ve recently tried to renovate the rooms but really shoddy work meant the shower head wasn’t properly plumbed into the wall, the shower leaked all over the bathroom floor and there were random holes in the bathroom counter. There was a chair in our room that I couldn’t go near for fear I would catch something - covered in stains. And the hallways were in disrepair. This was part of a longer stay where we stayed at about 30 budget motels/hotels in total - this was by far the worst. Budget hotels can still be basic but clean and well kept and this wasn’t one of them.

The bathroom had mold on the ceiling. Parking lot was clean. Beds were made. Charged us for smoking and we do not smoke and we weren't really in the room because we had a conference everyday starting at 9 am to 7:30 pm.

The bed was comfortable but the room had wallpaper peeling off the wall. The coffee maker was dusty and in the restroom next to the toilet. There isn’t enough outlets to plug in my phone charger. The grosses part was the moldy shower floor and the peeling off of the floor and sink . I had to use a towel to step on in the shower because I wasn’t comfortable stepping on the shower floor. The extra charges for getting makeup or hair dye on the white towels was ridiculous. Use bleach.

Room was dirty, bed sheets looked dirty. Smelled clean. Pillows smelled like they were used and not fresh pillow covers. Carpets extremely dirty, walls real dirty, holes. Entered the room. Immediately checked out upon arrival. Would like a refund. Did not stay. Chose to book a different hotel.

This hotel was the most dirty unkept hotel ive ever stayed at. The bathroom was so gross we did not use it the shower was never cleaned it was tiles but painted iver and the paint was peeling. Other people's hair was all over. Mold in the windows. Carpet was so dirty i dont think it was ever cleaned.

I have to preface this with YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. The room was only $66. That should have been a clue not to book the room. It was in terrible shape. The bathtub was dirty. The shower might as well have been non-existent.

Their extension process requires an hour and is unlike other hotels I’ve stayed at. The outside is aging but inside the room is great. Beds are good. Only negative for the room is the electric outlet is by the door. The bathroom outlet didn’t work. No trees so your car will bake in summer even with a sun visor

Cheap but you get what you pay for. AC was loud, room wasn’t sound insulated at all either so lots of noise from the neighbors, it was a pretty noisy night. While the hotel was mostly empty we got stuck right by the laundry machines which definitely contributed. The curtains over the window in room 112 were in horrible shape with burns and tears all over them. Very dated, and little has been done to improve it, it just felt dingy.

There was a broken lamp which couldn't be replaced. Not a lot of AC outlets in the room. Not enough light. The bed was comfortable, the fridge and microwave worked. The room was clean.

Good comfy bed, but a run down building. Did the job for a one night stopover.

The room itself is pretty good especially the bed. The only reason I took off stars was their extension procedure/ policy and no outlets by the bed. You have to use 1 by the door since the bathroom outlet didn’t work

The overall stay wasn't bad. I did go to the front desk at one point to request more towels, and the clerk then followed me to my room after giving me the towels and very abruptly told me that he was coming to get the other towels from the room and acted like he was going to follow me into the room. I had to ask him to wait just a moment for me as I went and got the towels to give him. Then a couple of hours before checkout, I called the front desk to ask if I could do an hour late checkout, and a different clerk told me that I could not checkout late which was fine, but then she proceeded to tell me that I needed to get out of the room by 11 if I wanted my deposit back and then just hung up the phone on me. Then when I went to checkout at 11, I waited a few minutes for a customer in front of me to finish their business. When it was my turn I went up and told the clerk that I was checking out of my room, and the clerk told me that I could leave and they would check my room for damages when they had time. I asked her when I would get my deposit back, and she told me that I'd get it back in a few business days if my room didn't have any damages and then just told me that I could leave. I don't know if I'll get my deposit back or not, but overall the customer service was not great and left much to be desired. The room itself had some sort of orange mystery substance splattered all over the ceiling and on the wall above the headboard.

After a delayed flight, we arrived at the hotel for check in. The front desk staff demanded a $100 in cash, saying if we didn’t have cash, we could not check in. We were surprised and stated we prepaid for our room and this hotel has never before required a large cash sum at check in. The front desk staff said the property was purchased by new owners and we either had to come up with $100 cash or he would not check us in. He refused to call a manager, refused to put the deposit on our bank card and refused to refund our prepaid room. He demanded that we use the ATM they have provided in their lobby. When we pointed out that the ATM screen said it was out of service, he said he couldn’t help us and it wasn’t his fault, it was ours for not reading some very obscure fine print in the reservation details. Very disappointing and we were left stranded in the middle of the night after traveling for 20 hours home from a trip overseas. The manager has yet to call us back after two days and we have not received a refund for a hotel stay they refused to let us use. We will never use this hotel again. It’s a shame because it used to be a great deal in the heart of the city and we’ve stayed there several times in the past.

The night cleck was intransigent. I called about my arrival on atramk aroaund 3 am, and he was pushing about arrival time (like I control amtrak trains). Harsh poilicy about x amount of cash deposit against stains on towers and sheets. He lacks manners. The place needs repairs (bath drain didn't work, sink was in bada condition, key cards and lock didn't work properly). If I knew the kind of night cleck's treament to customer, I would never booked that hotel.

The staff was great and they were very understanding and helpful.

I had a very unpleasant experience at this hotel and ended up not staying the night. I arrived early in the morning, fully understanding that check-in was at 3 PM. However, the front desk staff greeted me with a visibly annoyed expression and an extremely rude attitude. It was one of the most unwelcoming interactions I’ve ever encountered at a hotel. Instead of offering basic courtesy or even a simple acknowledgment, the staff continued to blast music or a loud TV from behind the counter and completely ignored me while I was seated in the lobby. The atmosphere felt unprofessional and frankly, unsafe. The overall condition of the property did not match the impression given online — it felt more like a rundown motel than a proper hotel. Due to the unfriendly service and uncomfortable environment, I chose to leave and book a room elsewhere. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a safe and respectful stay.

Easy to find, enough parking lots. The room was very clean and tidy. Within 20 minutes walking time you get it to the centre.

Attentive staff. Close to restaurants. Reasonably close to Temple Square. Smoking on outside stairs not permitted, but saw 2 people doing it anyway.

The website states that breakfast is included. Per a sign it appears as if they haven't offered breakfast in years but the website states differently. Cleaning staff is real nice.

Things were ok but I wish they had some plastic forks available in the lounge. I had to eat my dinner with my fingers. It would also be nice if they had tea as an option rather than only coffee in the rooms.

When we tried to check in around lunch time, without checking the young woman at the Reception said we had to wait until 3 pm. Seeing less than a handful of cars parked in the parking lot, I asked the woman to check with her management. She instead checked with Housekeeping who told her that several rooms were available. Finally we got our room but she asked for $100 deposit (which was not stated in Expedia). The next morning around 7:30 am my wife went to Reception to ask for fresh coffee (as no breakfast was included) the man at Reception asked her to come back at 8 am. When we checked out around 9:30 am, my wife asked for fresh coffee again and now they said no coffee served! Instead they offered us two one-time use coffee packs (which required a coffee maker). Obviously, we were already checked out of our room!

Everything is in walking distance like stores, cafes, restaurants. Quite and peaceful place to relax and enjoy time.

It was close to salt palace, coffee, food and transportation. The room and bath were very clean. The bathroom was large but the room a bit small. Daily room service available. The elevator was fast but a bit creaky.
