Beautiful resort. The history and old Plantation worth the stay! Spa was amazing! Good food options and awesome rooms.

The resort was very well kept. Parking is far from the actual hotel part. Room was nice. Bed was wonderful. I will stay again.

Quiet, stately property. Beautiful venue, lots of walking trails. Did not have time to use Spa facilities, but they looked nice. The plumbing fixtures in our room needed updating. Would definitely return.

This property is very historic and off the beaten path. If you are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle this is the place. Super quiet almost eerily so. Parking was a chore. Breakfast/brunch was very convenient. Would go back but with a better idea of what is offered.

While the property and surrounding area are beautiful and full of history, the parking is horrible. Not nearly enough or safe spots for such a large tesort.

the property is quiet bucolic and somewhat serene, anachronistic in a good way, great place for a private getaway. The rooms were too cold even n the summer and attempts to lower the AC were ineffective, needs to be remedied, also the gym is in need of a major remodel, walls were smeared and dirty as well as ceiling times and 2 of the machines about 10 worked, literally just a few mismatched weights to be had. Overall for the guest who wants to do nothing great, if you want to mix in a few activities not so great, go there to do nothing but sleep and daydream.

Grounds was beautiful. And beautifully maintained. The mansion is a little run down. As well as common areas.The room was nice and clean. The biggest complaint is the parking is not convenient at all. Especially for the elderly. You either park out front of the Mansion area..in a gravel area...a very far distance and extremely dark, no lighting what so ever, or try and find parking down below the motel area and walk is uphill and lighting is not good. Very vulnerable feeling.

I stay at Berry Hill every time I’m in town. I love everything about it- it’s comfortable, clean, convenient- it’s great. This time, I had my sisters staying with me, and we decided to take advantage of the pool. The pool was SO hot it felt like a hot tub. On a high-90s August day. That’s my only complaint. Maybe consider having the pool heated only in the colder months, and allow guests a cool dip in the dog days of summer. Or at least don’t have it SO hot. Very unpleasant. Another guest in the pool area shared our sentiments. Other than that, great stay, as always! :)

The property was very beautiful. The staff was great! The room was very clean and comfortable.

Room was dirty and so were the sheets.

I like the outside charm but the interior needs a desperate refresh. Rugs and upholstery in the rooms were dirty, the furniture is chipped and the mattresses are so uncomfortable. I completely understand a continental breakfast, but the toaster was broken, no one there to refill anything, just a bad experience. The spa was amazing, but we won’t be staying again any time soon.

Place is charming but in dire need of a deep cleaning and refresh.

Beautiful property. Rooms are elegant, up-to-date, and super clean.

Luxury accommodations in a historic setting. The staff was awesome as well as Darby's Tavern, the Mother's Day Lunch, hiking/running, and the pool. Mr. Luck brought history to life and was delightful!! (The beautiful facility is beginning to show some wear/age. We sincerely hope this treasure can be maintained for enjoyment accross time. It was a terrific experience/get away for my wife and friends.

I was extremely disappointed with just about every aspect of this hotel. The bathroom was disgusting! A large dead bug was next to the toilet. Mold and hair all around the tub. The towels must have been from the 80s. At 10PM there were no staff available to request a wake up call. The channel line up on the circa 2000 TV was approximately 15 channels! Breakfast was beyond horrible and there were fruit flies all around the food. I will say the food and staff at the Tavern was good.

Very quiet, clean

This retreat had the potential for five stars, but missed the mark. A very interesting place with lots of character. The first 24 hours was about a 4.5 star experience. However, when’s a wedding party came in the second day, other guests were largely ignored (I.e. sitting at a table for 30 minutes at Darbys before getting as much as a water). The second day forward, the staff was low-energy, and hot water/coffee/cups were not out, with the explanation that they were “running low” as just ONE example. When things were asked for/about, a shoulder shrug was an average response. One kitchen cooks everything, but the Library, Mansion, and Darbys refuse to let you order something off each other’s menus, and when you want a selection, you have to order from multiple places, despite them being less than a shout from each other. And the staff is not very nice when you ask them that question. The Mansion House was taken over by the wedding party while it remained open for other guests, making it both uncomfortable and difficult to tour. It made other paying guests seem like they were intruding (throughout the property). Many things were in need of repair /maintenance or cleaning. Coffee maker in room was not usable due to scum in it, and cleaning through appeared to be very superficial, with more deep cleaning needed in the room and throughout the property. Still, because of the historic character, indoor pool, spa, etc. a fair trip.

The room was full of lady bugs. And the tv channel selection was difficult to mange. I could not get any local channels or ESPN - CNN etc.

We really liked the hotel. Had been past many times but first overnight. The HVAC system made a noise about every 30 minutes like a stack of plates being dropped. I realize things don't always work properly but when reported it upon checkout I was toid they were aware of it already???? WTH? And they put us in the room anyway???? Unforgiveable.

The reception staff were friendly. However, we found the staff in the bar to be quite surly. The bar food was tasty, but they did get our order wrong and hearing what the people on the table next to us were saying they had their order wrong too. The TV in the room seemed very old and the picture quality was like something from the 80s. The pillows were extremely lumpy and uncomfortable. The rooms didn’t seem very soundproof either as we could hear our neighbours very clearly. The pool was a good size and warm. We found breakfast to be very limited. It said continental breakfast on the menu, but all we were offered were American bagels and cereal.

I had a great time and everything went well. It feels safe and very quiet. One notable thing that may be of interest is there are no microwave or fridge in the rooms, for extended stays I would think that these may be desirable. Parking was a challenge on two nights, I had to drive around several times to find a place to park in the grass

Our overall experience was great, and we plan to stay here again. The grounds are well kept, and very peaceful. The rooms were very nice, and comfortable as well.

Room was OK, the bed was very firm and on the smaller side... Staff was courteous... Continental breakfast was not very good and the next day was leftover cake and fruits from the first day... Very disappointing. Restaurant was OK

The Berry Hill Resort is beautiful. This was my second time staying here. Both times my room had a beautiful and comfortable 4 post canopy bed. The rooms have hardwood floors and are beautifully decorated. The pool is amazing, and it is fun to walk around the grounds of a historic home. One thing that would make it better is to provide more outlets. It is difficult to have lamps on and charge devices at the same time.

Only complaint was Bed was extremely hard for us- otherwise enjoyed our stay and looking forward to going again.

Such a unique setting! The mansion house and surrounding land is beautiful. The rooms are charming.

I love Berry Hill Mansion and resort. I come regularly several times yearly. The staff is so friendly, nice and accomodating and the room/property is immaculate! The mansion itself is like stepping into history!

Very calming atmosphere. Service in Darbys Tavern was a little slow. We sat for approximately 10 minutes before being waited on. Only a couple people at bar and two couples in dining area. Food was good.

We had a problem with the checkin

Front desk staff was extremely helpful, sweet and cordial. They answered all of our questions, and went the extra mile to make sure our stay was pleasant.

Staff was friendly and helpful. The grounds were beautiful and dining options were convenient.

When I arrived late in the evening all of the lights were out at the front desk and I didn't think anything of it.... When I got back one night about 10:00 p.m. and no one was at the front desk and the lights were out and I called the front desk about 25 times stood there for more than 20 minutes called the extra number that was on the counter all with no response that's what made me start to think if I had not run into cleaning lady in the hallway sweeping I probably would have slept in my car that night it looks like I was disappointed that my key did not work and I could not find anyone at the front desk for more than half hour

Amazing place, wonderful service, even personalized welcome (as a return guest).

Our stay was lovely as were the rooms and facility. We enjoyed drinks in the library, walks on the grounds, and great food in Darby’s Tavern. We did encounter a few hiccups in service. The morning front desk attendant was a bit unpleasant as was one of the waitstaff in the Tavern. However, we spent several hours in the Tavern watching football and being taken care of by the most exceptional young woman Crystal. She is a treasure! Our group has met here on several occasions and will continue to do so. This is a treat for all of us and we will return!

Out in the country

The historic Berry Hill plantation was the real draw for my visit. The modern hotel added to the property is traditional, tasteful, and entirely appropriate for what was a somewhat controversial addition to a landmark property. Because we were visiting from Sunday-Tuesday, some of the amenities like the dining room and the bar within the house proper were not in service. That was understandable but nonetheless disappointing. The pub option worked well enough, however.

A beautiful gem , I stumbled across whilst looking for accomodation close to Virginia International Raceway 10/10

The only "problem" is that it takes a rather long drive for most people to get there. But it's worth it!

Was in town for a car race. Location was no far from the track. Only stayed one night but plan on visiting again soon

It's a very historic site. It needs a little updating. The food and service at Darby's Tavern and at the Mansion was very good, but their air conditioning was way too cold. The complementary breakfast was good too. There is not a lot to do in the area. There are some good eating places in South Boston. Overall, it's a good place to relax.

Randomly booked this on Expedia when I took the family to a race at the Speedway. Everything else was booked and this popped up as an option. It was a short drive away. BEAUTIFUL resort! We had the dog with us, but the whole family was pleased with how amazing this place was. I've been in VA my whole life, but have never made my way down to this area. Absolutely gorgeous grounds. There was a wedding party the night we arrived, but the hotel was serene and quiet, I'd come back to the area just to stay at the resort! I really wish we had a day or two to enjoy it. We checked-in late and left early, but it looked beautiful. Nice bar/restaurant (just walked through), bu the pool looked nice too. I think we lucked out with the random booking. I'm giving it 5 stars for what we were expecting. Only negative was the dated TV w/ analog signal that was a little wobbly. Really not worth the mention for the price, but we were only there for a few hours before leaving for kids travel sports early in the morning. Would defintely book again for a longer duration! Two thumbs up!

This was our second visit to Berry Hill and what really drove us back was the food- the food here is excellent! We could not get enough of the delicious food and drink. It would have been nice if, when we checked in, someone told us that they advise you to make reservations. Priority in the restaurant seating is not given to hotel guests. Also, the suite my family and I stayed in was beautiful but the doorknob was non-functional. I understand wanting to preserve the integrity of the original hardware in the mansion but that presented an issue of safety. All we had was a deadbolt. Overall, Berry Hill is a beautiful, peaceful place to have a getaway!

We have stayed multiple times at Berry Hill. The rooms are always clean and comfortable. We enjoyed Sunday brunch at the restaurant during our last visit. The food and service were outstanding!

Beautiful building, lousy breakfast. No decaf, No breakfast tea, empty pancake dish was not refilled at 7:30 am, No courtesy drink.

Great location and a nice place to be out of it all! The only issue, after many stays is the breakfast. It's never any good and they run out super early. One coworker of my husband's who was staying there went to get yogurt and it was all.out of date. Someone seriously needs to revamp breakfast. It's the only downfall of thos beautiful hotel

Loved the room however when we checked in we didn’t realize the we had to climb stairs. We were not offered assistance … both of us 77. The “continental” breakfast was awful. The coffee urn was empty … waited 10 minutes for it to be refilled. Sausages we brought out … ice cold … worst breakfast ever!

The continental breakfast was horrible… I’ve had way better at cheaper hotels.

The food at the Tavern was so good and the staff was very nice!! The rooms amd bathrooms were big. Overall, a great option for staying overnight in South Boston!

Neat property! We want to return and spend more time checking out the historical places on the property. We stayed because we live out of town, but work near the resort. It was great that everything was at the property, and after a long day, we were just able to relax! The Tavern was great! Food was good and service was impeccable!

We love the location, but again the breakfast is awful and this time it was even worse. The egg thing looks so old and like it had been reheated many times. They used to put yogurt out, (I didn't eat that as it was yuck yogurt) and now none of that. Again love location and the room, but breakfast is not edible to me.
