The hotel was fine, what is terrible is parking. The lot was 2 blocks away and we had to leave at 4 am to get back to our hometown because we had to teach class the next day. The clerk did not tell us that the lot is locked down and we could not get to our car! My husband walked the 2 blocks to get our car and could not get in, we thought maybe we’d need our room key so I dragged both of our suitcases the 2 blocks to bring the key, which also did not unlock the gate. About 10 min later a dude runs out of another hotel lobby that was across the street from the lot to unlock the gate. It’s the most ridiculous situation I’ve ever come across.

Here quite often. I like how it was restored in a classy old-fashioned way. I would like to see more deli/vending options. There is nowhere on site to get water, Gatorade, a cold beer, snacks, etc. late at night without walking a few blocks through downtown Spokane to a a mini mart.

We enjoyed our stay at Montvale. Cool, historic hotel with lots to do close by. Staff was friendly and property has lots of amenities. The atrium area is a great place to enjoy coffee and read. Also enjoyed the fitness center. Would recommend and would stay again if in the area.

I have stayed here many times for work. Nice older hotel, on the smaller side. I like the location. Parking can be interesting..smaller lot behind the hotel, and overflow lot down an alley. If I am a solo female it would make me concerned walking to/from, as there is a significant homeless population in the area. If the price is right, though, I choose this most every time.

Nice hotel with a good location. Unfortunately this picot of a bar does NOT EXIST at the hotel. There is no bar in the hotel at all, so don't book for this cute feature.

Charming hotel with large rooms, thick towels. Coffee and tea bar is available all day and is a thoughtful amenity. Gym is nicely equipped and spacious. Perfect location to attend concerts at the Fox Theatre, which is right across the street.

The property and parking was very confusing. It was very confusing on how to get into the hotel once we were parked in the overflow parking area. It surprised me that there were so many rooms and not much parking at all. Overall I was happy for the most part with the hospitality.

Let me first say I really liked this hotel. It has really old class charm. The restaurant in the basement called the Gilded Unicorn is certainly worth a visit. Be sure to try the Bocce rolls with the Gouda fondue dipping sauce. The exterior of the windows need to be cleaned. The bathroom sink was cracked and the bathroom vent cover needs to be cleaned and repainted.

There was mold on the ceiling in the bathroom, dirty grout, the hair dryer had a lot of lint in the collector - overall it didn't feel like a clean and refreshing space to rest our heads after a long night. The linens did seem alright and the room otherwise was average cleanliness. Unfortunately, due to the building's age you can hear every single sound and movement in the room above you on the floorboards. We might have gotten unlucky with our upstairs neighbors walking around non-stop at 3AM, but I'd bring ear plugs if staying here. When we arrived the attached lot didn't have any parking spaces yet, luckily they have an overflow option a few blocks away - but if you are solo and arriving late keep this in mind. The location was great, a lot of cafes and shops in walking distance. Easy to find on the road as well.

I had booked the presidential suite for two nights, but the day we were to arrive, I was told that they had overbooked, and changed us to a loft room. The loft was nice and very large. However, the bathroom sink faucet was barely attached, so we could not use it. We told the front desk, but it was never fixed. As a result, we had to wash our hands in the kitchen. Also in the bathroom, there was some blood on the wall and no trash can. There was a TV in the bedroom and in the living room, but we couldn’t get either one to work, as there was no connection. We told the front desk and a staff member was able to get one of the TV’s working, but not the other.

Darling old hotel renovated and done beautifully. The rooms are comfortable and well-appointed. The bathroom was spotless and large. The linens were clean and fresh. Slight mix up at check in which was promptly resolved. Great room and terrific stay!

Room was fine, door didn’t close by itself. Shampoo dispenser broke, haven’t seen my deposit refunded yet. I’m not sensitive to smells but the lobby fragrance went home with me.

Enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to return. Staff was friendly, helpful and accommodating. Our room was spacious, clean, comfortable and quiet. Awesome water pressure in the shower/tub combo.There is historic ambience with all of the modern conveniences. We were told The Montvale has existed the longest of the Spokane hotels. The 2nd floor atrium was a lovely place to enjoy a glass of wine in the evening. A variety of eateries are within a block or two of the hotel. Hotel guests receive a discount at several of them. We went to they unique, underground Gilded Unicorn for dinner and loved the breakfast burritos at Rosies…among the best I have had since leaving Texas about a decade ago.

This historic hotel is so cute!! We stayed on the 2nd floor and the room was really spacious. The beds comfy. There is a little courtyard on the floor that was filled with free tea and coffee...that was a plus. Only downside, that we could not control was we could hear the footsteps of the room above us, but it was not unbearable. I would definitely stay here again!!

We booked the signature suite. This hotel looks way better on paper than in person. We arrived to a couch covered in stains. We used a bed cover to cover the stains and make the couch loungeable. There was a full kitchen but the seats at the island were only an inch lower than the island which mostly rendered them useless. There was no paper towels or dish cloths, we borrowed one from the bathroom to clean the dirty wine glasses we found in a cabinet (along with a broken one). The room itself was pretty but had zero airflow, we slept with the doors to the rooms open each night to stop the rooms from getting too hot. There was one bathroom which was serviceable and only one mirror in the entire room (over the sink in the bathroom). Not having a full length mirror when there was so many places that it would be perfect, felt like a total miss. The location is amazing. We could walk all over downtown and it was close to many things to do. This was a major plus. The staff were all friendly and they were super responsive via text.

Love this locally owned quaint boutique hotel and the location. The walls are a bit thin and the character isn't for everyone, but we've stayed a few times now. Really appreciate the in room microwave and fridge, even if the TV isn't a smart TV.

Hard to even mention anything after an otherwise perfect stay, but the floors can be a bit creaky if you have some… larger night-walker guests above you. Not terrible but enough to be a little annoying. Other than that, a wonderful hotel. Definitely would still recommend.

Not as good as past stays. Staff is great. Seems to have been acquired by a larger management company (Ruby). And the layout of this hotel is soooo cool with its interior spaces. First time I was woken up (twice) by some loud neighbors because of very thin walls (however the place is the oldest hotel in Spokane which makes it very cool). And the cleaning service was poor. Also our refrigerator wasn't working, which we only figured out on checkout, making any food inside suspect.

Room was nice in appearance and amenities and desk clerks were professional. CONS: The room was less than fully comfortable, all things considered: first, very noisy children next door banging furniture on the walls (or so it seemed) and making an endless ruckus. Walls are way too thin. We heard a neighbor's conversation on the other side as well. Hotel staff intervened at our request ca 10pm but still could hear talking and roughhousing from the room with children loudly till midnight. Light came in from bright lamps outdoors, despite a venetian blind. (No blackout blinds.) The bed was soft, pillows all lumpy, perhaps from repeated washings. The sink was almost blocked, collecting water when used. PROS: Nice sport bar with good food! Great location and handing parking. Heating control in room was excellent. Great housekeeping and front desk. Elegant historic hotel that we have visited many times before; this is our first negative experience there.

The hotel is in downtown Spokane. Many nice restaurants in walking distance, as well as the river park. Bed was nice and soft. It was annoying, though, that it didn't have Netflix. That said, not a biggie. Would stay there again. Spokane was dope.

The hotel was fine, what is terrible is parking. The lot was 2 blocks away and we had to leave at 4 am to get back to our hometown because we had to teach class the next day. The clerk did not tell us that the lot is locked down and we could not get to our car! My husband walked the 2 blocks to get our car and could not get in, we thought maybe we’d need our room key so I dragged both of our suitcases the 2 blocks to bring the key, which also did not unlock the gate. About 10 min later a dude runs out of another hotel lobby that was across the street from the lot to unlock the gate. It’s the most ridiculous situation I’ve ever come across.

The door entry states that the door would be locked after 10pm and to call a phone number or ring what was essentially the doorbell. I was standing outside that door for 25 mins in downtown Spokane at midnight calling the phone number and ringing that doorbell with no response. After walking to a sister property down the street with everything I own in hand, I was turned back around to go to this hotel with the front desk guy giving me all the excuses as to why it wasn’t his fault he wasn’t there to open the door. The room itself was clean, quiet, and had a lot of character. When checking out, the front desk woman was rushing off to cook herself a cup of noodles and was disgruntled when noticing I was trying to check out. As I was leaving, housekeeping let her know another guest needed replacement coffee. The woman sighed and with a tone said “Guess I won’t ever get to eat my cup of noodles today!” Kind of funny but more so unprofessional. Overall, I will not be staying here again.

Imagine being in a deep sleep in the dead of night, safe in what you thought was your private, secure hotel room, only to wake up to the sound of your door opening—and there, in the darkness, stands a man dressed in all black. It was absolutely terrifying. My girlfriend and I were frozen in shock, staring at this stranger in our doorway, our hearts racing. I immediately went to the front desk to report this, and their response? It was an ‘accident.’ Apparently, they have security doing vacancy room checks at….2 a.m. !! Who in their right mind thinks this is okay? And even if you were conducting checks, how do you not verify whether a room is occupied? This felt like such a violation of our safety and trust. If you stay here, be prepared for the possibility that someone might barge into your room in the middle of the night, when you’re at your most vulnerable. The only way we could sleep was securing the door with a chair. I wouldn’t wish this experience on anyone—it was traumatic and completely unacceptable. update: the hotel called and was very empathic to the situation. They informed me that they would be making changes so this would not happen again and I have faith that they will implement these changes

The building was fantastic and full of history as being one of the first hotels in Spokane. Rooms were large and had high ceilings. Loved the unique euroshowers! Parking was gated and locked up at night. Discounts to local restaurants were included in the stay and so many fun things to see in the area, the famous fox theatre being right across.

I have stayed here many times for work. Nice older hotel, on the smaller side. I like the location. Parking can be interesting..smaller lot behind the hotel, and overflow lot down an alley. If I am a solo female it would make me concerned walking to/from, as there is a significant homeless population in the area. If the price is right, though, I choose this most every time.

We loved the decor and the feel of the property. The restaurant below was fabulous. The staff were not overly friendly. Coffee ran out on Saturday morning. Appreciated having someone tidy up the room and replace towels. We would stay again and recommend to others.

Montvale hotel is a historical property in downtown Spokane where I spent two nights in April 2024. I appreciated its old-West charm and limited number of spacious and well-lit rooms. Even though the rooms are on the 2nd and 3rd floors, there is a large elevator from Reception. The central lobby with a glass sky-dome is superb. The bed was supremely comfortable and wide, and there was space for everything. TV, sufficient plugs, iron and board, hairdryer, and fridge (empty) were provided and worked. A nice wide desk was also there with two seating options (chair and armchair). The room and hotel were clean and generally quiet even though sometimes the ceiling creaked as normal in an old building. A mini-breakfast of pre-packaged (very good) pies and muffins is offered and there is always tea, coffee, hot chocolate available. If I have one fault it’s the bathroom, which had a tub and rain-shower combination but no movable wand. I cannot understand this system and, while better than washing in a bucket when it was invented, wand showers should be universal by now. Nevertheless, overall it is a dependable, safe, clean, beautifully historical and friendly place.

Good: beuatiful, classic as if traveld to 1950s. Furnitures and hotel design...Very nice and clean room. Bad: some smell I did not like. Some might like or ok with it. Not so bad: $10 parking fee per night. No breakfast. Parking, entry, lobby are all in different side of the building.

The hotel had an artsy modern look and information on nearby restaurants with discount coupons to use. Friendly staff and very helpful! We really thought Delaynee @ front desk was exceptional! The Guilded Unicorn was excellent for dinner & First Ave Coffee was a great hit as well!

A gorgeous vintage property in the arts district of downtown - everything is very walkable, or you can just stay on the property and have a GREAT time! Excellent food in the gorgeous basement restaurant Gilded Unicorn, fun to have in the relatively new Griffin Arcade with pinball, and the beer wall and food selection upstairs are excellent, as is the fantastic staff! (and this place had an incredibly comfy bed!)

This is a great value hotel. It enjoyed the morning coffee, breakfast at Rosie’s, and the Gilden Unicorn is a great restaurant, hidden gem only accessed through the hotel. All clean. Bed was only full size and random frequent sounds like pressure from pipes or something. But would stay again due its good location and value.
