Clean and well maintained property. Adequate room amenities and comfortable bed. Few blocks from the marina, beach, park. Restaurant across the building open 24hours (Denny’s). Perfect place to stay in for a quick weekend getaway. Staff very strict with check out time. Pool small and too deep for little ones. No hot tub and no bath tub in the room. No big deal for us. Overall experience excellent! Will book again for sure.

The location was very nice. Walkable to plenty of restaurants. 5 min drive to fairgrounds. Parking free for one car-was told there is not enough parking spaces for everyone which can be problematic. Luckily we didn’t experience a problem. Seems like the fridge didn’t reach a cool enough temperature as we had food in there and didn’t seem to get that cold. the ac seemed to turn off after a certain point and were not able to have it as cool as we would have liked. Overall convenient location. About a 10 min walk to the beach as well.

I don’t usually leave reviews, but this is hands down the biggest bang for your buck. It’s a cute little motel style facility with a lobby that is supplied with complimentary water, tea, and coffee. Rooms are supplied with a refrigerator and the lobby has a microwave for guests to use. It is also in such a convenient area, I was able to walk to every single destination my entire stay. 10/10 would recommend this to anyone who comes to Monterey!

An older property, clean and well maintained, a short walk away from shops and restaurants on Alvarado Street, and a very manageable walk to the Wharf (~15 mins). 24-hour desk. Only downside is traffic noise, but at least during the week, it dies down after 10:00 p.m. and doesn't start up until about 7:30 a.m. Would happily stay there again. Elevator works, so recommend a room on 3rd floor (top).

The room is tidy. The door to the shower has such gaps that the bathroom gets flooded. The motel is directly behind a petrol station and the street is quiete loud. No food at all, just a coffee and no milk. The pool area is a nice little spot. The personell is friendly.

Really enjoyed our stay. It's an older property but clean and close to the Wharf, shopping and dining. Staff was wonderful! Kind, helpful and very attentive. Parking a large vehicle is not easy in their garage (very limited parking above ground). We have a tall pickup and had to park underground and the clearance was literally ½ inch from the roof. I needed assistance in backing out of the garage for clearance and a staff member, Amal, stopped what he was doing and guided me through the I-beams and low hanging conduit. He was awesome! Would stay again, just drive a smaller vehicle. Ha!

For the price, room was nicer than expected. There is a heated pool, coffee machine, and refrigerator. It can be a little loud. The parking lot is limited, small and tight. Upon our attempt to check in, the front person was not hospitibal and let us know that if we had booked our room directly through them we would have been able to check in early. "Since you chose to book your stay through a third party and not through us, we cannot offer you an early check-in and you must remove your vehicle off the premise and come back at 3pm."

Parking was not great, but luckily there is street parking - be mindful of the time though. The AC works well but doesn't stay on long because the thermostat is so close to the unit. So when the AC was off, the room was always too warm. Great location though!

The place was clean and well kept, located in a convenient area. I don't want to be too harsh about my review since I think what happened was purely bad luck, but our room flooded after using the shower. The staff was quick to send help and try to solve the issue, however if we had stayed another night I can see this being a big issue for us. Again, this must have been a plumbing problem and I don't blame anybody for what happened. Regardless of this, the place was pretty good for what it's worth, specially if you are simply looking for a place to crash at night after spending all day exploring the town.

Great price. Check in/out was quick. When we arrived, the room had toenail clippings on the floor by the beds. The bedding had stains and rips. The traffic on the corner and gas station next door didn’t bother us being on the third floor.

Room was clean and staff were friendly and helpful. The room did have a stronger smell from cleaning and we’re more sensitive to smells. Overall the room was good other than the smell. Some items aired out after getting home, others we just ended up washing rather than waiting for when they would air out from the smell.

Could have been a 5/5 stay if it wasn't for the constant noise of cars, trucks and buses. There is a bus stop right outside which tends to be loud. The area also gets alot of traffic, so if you are sensitive to noise and don't have a way to cancel it out (earphones/headphones), then I would suggest booking in one of the hotels along Munras Ave for cheaper or almost same price. I also noticed very few ants in the bathroom, which was very odd but nothing to be concerned about. The room doors also open and shut pretty loudly, so you can hear others coming in and out. It would also be nice to have microwaves inside the rooms, but they only have one in the front desk office for everyone to use. Since I was on the 2nd floor, I didn't feel like going down just to heat up any food. The room was decent size but the bathroom felt small/tight. The shower water pressure could've been stronger for my preference, it was just ok. Other than that, it would've been an almost perfect stay. The front desk were very nice and welcoming. Free coffee/tea is available at the front desk office at all times. The bed and pillows were comfortable. Plenty of outlets and enough lighting. People in the other rooms were either very quiet or the walls are not thin. Just wish it was able to block the noise from the street.

This is a very basic hotel. It’s clean, it has parking, it is walking distance to down town and pier. But basic. Walls are so thin I could hear the person in the room next to us sneeze. I ordered a queen size bed but it looked more like a full size, was told at reception that this is indeed a standard queen, not an American queen, but last I checked we are still in America and most places that advertise a queen bed advertise a normal queen bed not the small one. I had to ask for a room with two beds because I couldn’t fit with my son in that little bed. I felt that they could’ve given me that courtesy without extra charging me for a room with two beds, but they didn’t- that is the reason I can’t say that their customer service was exceptional.

Service and friendliness was great. Hotel is older and lacks some amenities like a decent wifi (slow up on 3rd floor). Room is basic but clean. Bed could use an upgrade. Can certainly hear traffic so bring some ear plugs. Overall value for $ is decent compared to other properties nearby.

The hotel was nice and was walking distance from Alvarado! Staff on check-in night of 1/11/24 was very nice but every experience with staff after that was a nightmare. Upon check out I was billed an additional ~$70 for having “3 extra guests overnight” in the room when my family was just saying goodbye to us in the room then left shortly after. When I went to speak with staff about it, on the day of 1/16/24, and ask for the printed hotel policy along with the document I signed, they printed the signed document but refused to show me any documentation of their hotel policy regarding what is considered an “additional guest” no matter how many times I asked. They said “I’m sorry you interpreted it that way” and told me to be on my way and that there was “nothing” they could do about it. The original staff from the night of 1/11/24 was very kind to us when our original room’s door would not shut whatsoever (I believe they recently had new weather stripping installed which can be a doozy!) so they allowed us to change rooms. When I brought this up with the staff member working in the AM of 1/16/24 they told me “they didn’t have to do that. I would have slammed the door shut for you and told you to deal with it.” Overall cute little hotel that is walking distance from a lot! I just wish I did not have such an abhorrent experience with the staff during my trip back down here for a funeral.
The hotel was nice and was walking distance from Alvarado! Staff on check-in night of 1/11/24 was very nice but every experience with staff after that was a nightmare. Upon check out I was billed an additional ~$70 for having “3 extra guests overnight” in the room when my family was just saying goodbye to us in the room then left shortly after. When I went to speak with staff about it, on the day of 1/16/24, and ask for the printed hotel policy along with the document I signed, they printed the signed document but refused to show me any documentation of their hotel policy regarding what is considered an “additional guest” no matter how many times I asked. They said “I’m sorry you interpreted it that way” and told me to be on my way and that there was “nothing” they could do about it. We were so happy we decided to stay at The Stevenson for a show at Golden State Theater. It s an easy 5 minute walk to the show & we had a great meal & beers across the street at Alvarado Brewery! The hotel is older but very comfortably updated. Front desk staff were awesome… friendly & extremely helpful. We’ll definitely stay here again!

For the price, room was nicer than expected. There is a heated pool, coffee machine, and refrigerator. It can be a little loud. The parking lot is limited, small and tight. Upon our attempt to check in, the front person was not hospitibal and let us know that if we had booked our room directly through them we would have been able to check in early. "Since you chose to book your stay through a third party and not through us, we cannot offer you an early check-in and you must remove your vehicle off the premise and come back at 3pm."

This hotel is just "OK" and is a glorified motel. I am not sure why so many people gave it such high ratings. For over $350 a night I expected a lot more. We asked for a quiet room but our room was super noisy. The hotel is surrounded by streets on three sides and we heard traffic and cars reviving most of the night. We also heard a super loud banging of what I am guessing was a door to the cleaning area or employee area opening and closing all night and day. If this is a quiet room, what are the regular rooms like? Additionally, we asked if we could check out 1 hour later and were told it would be $75 for that. I have stayed at lots of hotels much nicer than this one and have never been charged a fee to check out 1 hour later. The rooms are pretty run down and our shower had a rusted out shelf in it. The room had a mini fridge but no freezer in it and no microwave. The manager at the front desk was not that helpful or friendly either and he and his colleague seemed more concerned with chatting to themselves about politics or something than actually helping the guests. I won't be staying here again. For the price I will stay somewhere else that is quieter, more friendly, and has better amenities.

Horrific noise (room by pool, busy traffic/buses/truck noise until late at night. Little privacy. Staff provided inaccurate information re room and was extremely rude when I addressed during checkout. Neighborhood is fine, but this place didn’t feel safe. Parking is very limited and not guaranteed.

Just a few steps from downtown Monterey! 40 minute stroll to Monterey bay aquarium. Free trolly about 5-10 mins from the hotel. Very clean. Overall very satisfied with our stay!

I have stayed here over five times because it is within walking distance of the restaurants and shops of Alvarado Street. The staff is friendly and helpful. The only downside is that it is a little noisy with vehicle traffic. But for the price, this is my favorite place to stay in Monterey.

Love the Stevenson and accessibility to nearby Trader Joe’s and finding options. I continue to stay as a former local and appreciate the convenience and kindness of the staff. Gas station next door makes it easy to grab a snack, or easily walk to dining, Trader Joe’s, Pete’s coffee and shopping. Really close drive to the beach! Walkable if you’re into active lifestyle.

Clean and well maintained property. Adequate room amenities and comfortable bed. Few blocks from the marina, beach, park. Restaurant across the building open 24hours (Denny’s). Perfect place to stay in for a quick weekend getaway. Staff very strict with check out time. Pool small and too deep for little ones. No hot tub and no bath tub in the room. No big deal for us. Overall experience excellent! Will book again for sure.

The hotel is dated and the room is basic. But, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The room and the hotel in general are clean and tidy. We didnt use the pool but it was clean and open for use. The bed was clean and comfortable. There was tea and coffee in the room and extra in the reception area. There is plenty of free parking, with camera security. The hotel is 10 mins walk from fishermans Whalf and there is a Dennys over the road that do a nice breakfast.

I don’t usually leave reviews, but this is hands down the biggest bang for your buck. It’s a cute little motel style facility with a lobby that is supplied with complimentary water, tea, and coffee. Rooms are supplied with a refrigerator and the lobby has a microwave for guests to use. It is also in such a convenient area, I was able to walk to every single destination my entire stay. 10/10 would recommend this to anyone who comes to Monterey!

On the outside it looks like a 60s 0r 70s motel, but has been very nicely updated inside. As such it is a good value. Location is good with lots of places to eat in easy walking distance.

Great downtown location. A few street noises in the night but generally quiet. The shower has two cannisters -- both labeled "conditioning shampoo" with nothing else, including shower gel or soap. For an otherwise good motel, that's a needless inconvenience. Also, one awful thermos of coffee in the lobby was worse than not having any at all.

I think the best aspects about this hotel are the staff and the affordability. The staff are really helpful and really go out of their way for you. The refrigerator really did not keep my food, cold enough. After two days it smelled.

Parking garage is max 6'4" we were 6'2". Not a problem we walked everywhere. Parked out suburban and it sat. Great location. Only 4-5 blocks from the beach and your car is safe. Everything you want at your fingertips

I came here for a work conference and I got to the motel at 12:15 PM. I asked to check in and they told me there would be a $50 fee to check in early which I thought was outrageous. I then asked if they had a bathroom I could change into and they said there was no public bathroom, but I could go to the gas station next-door. I had to get to my conference and so I ended up changing in my car and going to the conference I thought the motel was fine but at the end of the day, it’s a motel and I didn’t care for the customer service. I thought the $50 fee was really ridiculous. Had I shown up to the motel at 7 PM, I don’t think they would be giving me a $50 discount.
