This hotel is in the scariest area I’ve ever seen. While newly renovated, the elevator stinks like mold, the wall-mounted air conditioning unit screeched so badly we couldn’t use it, the whole building is creepy and the neighborhood is terrifying. I literally took valuables from the car in case it was stolen and texted family to let them know my last known location in case I went missing.

totally great! only stayed for a night so we could see a show at mohegan sun. the casino is 2 miles away & ubers come quickly. the front desk was very helpful and helped us get a room with a bigger bed. fine prices. totally fine for staying near the casino! good parking in the back too

Stay was fine, the only issue was no body wash in shower, ceiling was peeling off and falling in shower. Elevator was extremely cold. The room was clean, good tv channels.

The manager/owner was the only staff. Elevator was, at times, not working. Key card had to be reprogrammed. Also, would not allow early check in and did not have a secure space for luggage.

Really cool 200 year old building made into a hotel. Good easy parking. Close to Casinos. Clean. Friendly staff. I would have given 5 star for all but we had no pillow cases on the pillows although they promptly brought them to us and the bed was hard a s a rock. I like a comfortable mattress.

So I found this property on Orbitz travel site and took a chance w/this hotel! Never heard of it! Pictures online were just as what the room looked like in person! Room was clean, steril & looked like it wasn’t finished! No artwork on the walls, no lights in the bathroom other than the fan. Needed a chair or a couch to fill the room. 2 windows needed shades so you can sleep past sunrise! Elevator was broken, but only had to walk up 3 flights of stairs with bags. And nobody offered to help! Free parking was a bonus. Would I stay again, probably not!

The hotel staff was very accommodating, and the room was clean and spacious. The downside is the lighting in the room was not ideal - two small basement-style windows for natural light and no overhead lighting. The bathroom was not lit well at all -- you could barely see yourself in the mirror. The staff was nice to bring a light, ironing board and iron. There also was no closet at all in the room. And while there was a kitchenette, there were no supplies. Lastly, the elevator wreaks of mildew - I had a 20 minute coughing spell every time we used it.

At our arrival, the hotel overall was clean and modern and the onsite parking was convenient. Then we went inside to check in. That is where things took a turn. After being given wrong room, we were given keys to two other rooms both with occupants. After the third mishap, we wanted to leave, but it was too late because we had seven minutes to make it to our dinner reservations. For a one night day it was unnecessarily stressful. In addition, I didn’t think that the hotel itself warranted the high nightly rate. The room was small. The bathroom smelled like urine and they were dead bees on the floor.
At our arrival, the hotel overall was clean and modern and the onsite parking was convenient. Then we went inside to check in. That is where things took a turn. After being given wrong room, we were given keys to two other rooms both with occupants. Enjoyed the fact Hotel Callista was creat of a private residence(mansion). Gave it a homey, comfortable feel. Staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms and the hotel in general were very clean. Would definitely stay at Callista again.

I stayed at Callista Hotel for the weekend while attending the Pickle Festival nearby. The hotel itself is not your typical setup, it looks more like an old Victorian-style home than a modern hotel. When I arrived, the area felt pretty deserted. There’s no staff to greet you at the door; instead, you press a button and the door opens automatically, which felt a bit eerie. I even had to call the front desk because I wasn’t sure anyone was there. I was actually scared to go inside. Check-in was quick, and the one front desk worker I saw all weekend was helpful. Once inside, the hallways and room were surprisingly nice, modern furniture, a huge bed, and a great shower with strong water pressure. I personally liked the firm mattress, but it might be too hard for others. This property was very nice. The rooms were modern and clean. I wasn’t a fan of the bed, it was very hard and very high. It was hard to get up onto. Also, we could have used some chairs or something other than the bed to sit on in the room.

The rooms were clean. The place says that it is a historic building but it has been overly modernized. When we arrived there was a private party on the first floor and you could hear and feel the music all the way on the third floor. It ended at 10pm. The walls are paper thin. You can hear people three doors down. Because they went with an over modern decor with the already thin walls there were no sound dampening like pictures on the walls in the halls ways, so it created an echo chamber. Everytime someone opened a door on the floor it was like they were opening it in your room. Friends of ours were directly below us and they could hear us walking around no matter how quietly we were trying to be. Another guest decided to take a video call in the hallway so not to wake the person they were staying with, it was 4 doors down from us really early in the morning, there was no going back to sleep after that. This is a very loud hotel. If you are looking for rest and relaxation don't stay here.

The room was extremely small. Very basic furniture. I guess for one night it was ok but I probably will not stay here again. We could hear visitors talking. The walls are very thin. If you can, pay the extra for a normal “hotel” feel. The room needs a bureau and long mirror.

Pros: check in was easy. Hotel was extremely clean and in a quiet area of the city. The shower water pressure was great. Cons: the bed was uncomfortably firm. The room was spartan: dim lightbulbs, no trash can in the bedroom. The rooms are not soundproofed very well; a lot of hardwood floors leading to noises from the hallway being too clear.

The pictures of the rooms were a bit nicer than the actual room we got which let a little to be desired. It was very bare bones and the air conditioner didn't really work. You could see this was not an upgraded room.

As far as the hotel goes, it was very clean and comfortable. Perfect for just resting my head after attending a concert at the arena. I was a bit shocked to find an abandoned YMCA directly across the street, so that unsettled me a bit as a woman traveling alone (I did meet up with friends at the hotel, otherwise I wouldn’t really have felt safe leaving the hotel or walking from the parking lot at night by myself). The other issue was the hotel is ZERO sound-proofed. I heard every conversation in every room and hallway within ear shot of my room ALL NIGHT! I had a three hour ride home the next day, and really needed some sleep, but that was really impossible.

Disappointing. Although located near the city center, this hotel had nothing interesting within walking distance—for instance, no cafe or breakfast place. The building was nice and was kept up well, but our room wasn't comfortable. The main things worked: a good bed, working TV and Internet, a fast elevator. But the list of things that didn't work is long: inadequate lighting, electric sockets that failed, a coffee maker that filled a cup only part way, etc. There was no chair in the room, and the lobby was so cold that I needed to wear a coat to sit there. Also, I saw people come to check in or out when no staff was at the desk for 15 minutes or so.

We needed a place to stay for an overnight trip and this place was great. The room was new and clean. The staff was helpful and called ahead to inform us of an issue they were having with the elevator and to ask if we needed any special accommodations because of it. Checking in and out was easy as well. I’ll be staying there next time I’m in the area.

After the third mishap, we wanted to leave, but it was too late because we had seven minutes to make it to our dinner reservations. For a one night day it was unnecessarily stressful. In addition, I didn’t think that the hotel itself warranted the high nightly rate. The room was small. The bathroom smelled like urine and they were dead bees on the floor.
At our arrival, the hotel overall was clean and modern and the onsite parking was convenient. Then we went inside to check in. That is where things took a turn. After being given wrong room, we were given keys to two other rooms both with occupants. The manager/owner was the only staff. Elevator was, at times, not working. Key card had to be reprogrammed. Also, would not allow early check in and did not have a secure space for luggage.

The hotel itself was a very boutique style, beautiful in the inside, the outside looks nice and historic. The rooms can be a little more thoroughly cleaned and checked, but nothing crazy or nasty. The area looks run down , but with historic looking homes. Area is quiet. The staff was very professional, polite, attentive,. Would stay here again

totally great! only stayed for a night so we could see a show at mohegan sun. the casino is 2 miles away & ubers come quickly. the front desk was very helpful and helped us get a room with a bigger bed. fine prices. totally fine for staying near the casino! good parking in the back too

Great place to stay if you do not want to stay at the pricey hotels in the casinos. Only a 10 minute car ride to Mohegan Sun. The building is beautiful and the room bed was very comfortable. The only thing is it's an old building so you can hear your next door neighbors conversations or them snoring at night. Our initial room bathroom was not cleaned very well but staff quickly changed our room, and the other room was great. Great place for a quick stay.

I stayed at Callista Hotel for the weekend while attending the Pickle Festival nearby. The hotel itself is not your typical setup, it looks more like an old Victorian-style home than a modern hotel. Very nice staff and very clean rooms. Beds were comfortable. If you are looking for a nice clean room with very welcoming staff. This is an awesome choice. You aren’t going to be walking anywhere for dinner or drinks but for just a nice clean comfortable room, this is a good choice. About a 10 minute drive to either one of the casinos

The beds were like sleeping on plywood the floors inside the rooms were very dirty. Staff was friendly but kind of an awkward vibe. And breakfast was not included.

Disappointing. Although located near the city center, this hotel had nothing interesting within walking distance—for instance, no cafe or breakfast place. The building was nice and was kept up well, but our room wasn't comfortable. The main things worked: a good bed, working TV and Internet, a fast elevator. But the list of things that didn't work is long: inadequate lighting, electric sockets that failed, a coffee maker that filled a cup only part way, etc. There was no chair in the room, and the lobby was so cold that I needed to wear a coat to sit there. Also, I saw people come to check in or out when no staff was at the desk for 15 minutes or so.

This hotel is a basic as you can get. Beautiful building but it has been cheaply renovated. It was close to Mohegan sun (10min drive) so it served a purpose for us but the furniture in the bedroom is cheap, bare bones room and due to the lack of noise absorbing extras like rugs and curtains, you can hear all the other rooms and the corridors. The front desk staff aren’t very helpful, saying Mohegan sun was a 30min drive and also couldn’t provide me with a light bulb for one of the only two lamps that didn’t work in my room. The elevator stopped working. There is a vending machine on one of the floors but no real food served and nowhere close by to get breakfast. Honestly- if it’s cheap and you just need somewhere to rest your head then it was OK. Would I recommend to friends? Not really.

The room is lacking things that most other hotels have, such as a trash can besides a tiny one in the bathroom and a “do not disturb” sign. Elevator wasn’t working during the night. No continental breakfast, very few amenities. Guests in the hallway were very noisy very early in the morning, it seems like the walls and doors are pretty thin. Cable TV only, no streaming available. Certainly not worth the price of the room, IMO.

The room and hotel itself looks really tidy and clean. Our bathroom soaps in the shower were empty- we only stayed one night so didn't know until the morning we were checking out. The bed was incredibly hard even with a bed topper on it. The pillows were incredibly flat. The bathroom offered a bath cap that was so cheap it ripped while trying to open it- honestly they may as well just save their money on that. The walls are also paper thin, you can hear every door shut loudly and shakes the walla. We had the incredible luck of listening to some guy across the hall go off his rocker kicking doors and slamming things and screaming at 2am. The cops did arrive and remove him from the premises so we were able to finally fall asleep at 5am. The blue striped hallways on the 2nd floor gives off some serious Epstein island vibes. The Nespresso machine in the room was a really nice touch and the TV worked great. It also was an easy drive to the Casino which was nice, but I likely wouldn't stay here again unless I had no other option.
