Room was not serviced during our 2 night stay. Property is rather dated but in a very convenient location with ample free parking for hotel guests. Directions to parking entrance should be supplied since no access from street address of hotel.

Would have been nice to know that parking was at the back of hotel before hand. I know it’s an old building, but didn’t expect the curtains to blow as was rather windy outside. Looked like secondary glazing had been taken out. Actual wood work on windows was extremely dirty. Must say bathroom was spotless & bed was comfy.

Windows are only single-glazed, so even when it was shut it still felt like it was open. I could hear music from the bar clearly and plenty of conversations outside, making it hard to sleep. A very confusing layout to the building, with the keys not being numbered very well.

Friendly team. Cleanliness is very good. Some aspects of the room and bathroom are dated and showing some wear. Very comfortable bed. Dinner good whilst order was not well taken with starter not provided and no sauces offered with main course.

We stayed in room 40, the curtains were paper thin and there was a light right outside our window, which was on all night. The bathroom was very dated and the shower was a nightmare for my husband to use as it was so low. It was just ok for me and I’m 5ft 2”. We stay there to go to a festival in Portsmouth. It is walkable to the station and transport was good. You have to enter through the back entrance after 11pm which we were not told about, this was a bit worrying when all the doors were closed and we didn’t know how to get in but got there in the end.

We stayed in room 40, the curtains were paper thin and there was a light right outside our window, which was on all night. The bathroom was very dated and the shower was a nightmare for my husband to use as it was so low. It was just ok for me and I’m 5ft 2”. We stay there to go to a festival in Portsmouth. It is walkable to the station and transport was good. You have to enter through the back entrance after 11pm which we were not told about, this was a bit worrying when all the doors were closed and we didn’t know how to get in but got there in the end.

Booked for w nights but due to work comittments gss to travel down just for the 1 night. Firstly, the hotel did nor receive my email about arriving late and with my dog as wastold they dont receive messages from hotel.com, which I thought odd. We were given room 21 right ip the top of the stairs. Which my elderly dog found slightly difficult as very steep. The room.was very neglected and frayed carpet. Floorboards felt like you werte going to fall through and a very tired old bathroom. The room boiling hot so had to turn off radiators and open windows but very noisy with traffic all night long. As we weere by a door we heard the door slamming all night as well. The bed very old and too high for us. I went sown to the bar to order some lunch but a really strange atmosphere and not very festivve so changed our minds and waited for our family dinner at the Wheelwrights. I am so glad we didn't have to endure it for 2 nights. The place needs a complete renovation We werre given room 21

This is a lovely old building with which I am familiar (40+ years) and is in a great central position with very good transport links. Sadly, the place is looking very tired and is in need of refurbishment. Carpets are looking worn, doors in my room were cracked, windows only open a small distance, wallpaper had lifted away from the wall and furniture was shabby. However, the staff were friendly and attentive, the room was clean and the bed was very comfortable; I slept really well - which is really what is most important to me when I’m travelling. Price was good but it’s a shame that the building and facilities have deteriorated so much.

It is a very old building, the floors in the old part of the building including in the rooms are uneven and sloping to such an extent it is uncomfortable to walk on. The wiring gave cause for concern as the plug sockets were hanging off the walls.

The reception myself and my dog received from Ryan was warm and welcoming. This hotel desperately needs renovating. The bedroom furniture in the room allocated to me is antiquated, ie. dark, big and bulky and the carpet is thin and without underlay. When using the cold tap in the ensuite it groaned and the plumbing made a very loud vibrating noise when used.

This was a basic room at an inn. The floor was slanted and the toilet had 500 year old plumbing. The bed was comfy. The room was clean. Could walk to town and train station. Some of the staff were friendly. Others not so welcoming. Not a high level of customer service but a cheap place to sleep if you want to explore the surrounding countryside or take day trips by train.

On arrival we were greeted by a woman who was pretty rude and unwelcoming. She told us we couldn’t check in for another half an hour and to do what we liked to kill the time. She looked miserable, was unfriendly and we felt like we were just a nuisance. The room was very basic with two wardrobes and in definite need of a lick of paint. It was shabby. The room was incredibly hot during the night. We booked a table with the same woman who we checked in with to be told you’ve got two choices of times as we’ve got a table of 30 in tonight. The food that evening was good. When we asked to see the dessert menu we were told by the waitress that we couldn’t have dessert because the chef was too busy cooking for the table of 30. We were guests staying there and had a reservation so to be told we couldn’t have a course of food because they’re were too busy was really unprofessional. Just as we were about to leave to go and pay the bill at the bar, the waitress came back and said the chef says he’s got time to do desserts now if you’re still interested. We won’t be returning.

I thought the telephone manner of the 2 people I booked with was friendly and patient and helpful, I was visiting Havant for the first time and felt I could ask for more. Room was spacious and temperature good, lovely beds, functional and clean bathroom with hot water.Nice staff and appeared to be nice clientele. Liked the attentive breakfast staff.

Enjoyed our stay. Staff were very friendly and chatty The food was very good. Although the appearance of the building could be classed as tired, it was very clean and comfy and also quiet. Good car parking. Also close to local shops and motorway access. There is also a large green park close by.

Staff were all really friendly, room was a very good size, shops and food couple min walks and very easy to get a Train into Portsmouth with the station being a five minute walk away would definitely stay again

This was a business trip for cast & crew. All enjoyed the stay. Lovely rooms, excellent food with a good choice & good portions. Staff were extremely helpful & very friendly. Great location with parking at the rear. We had 24 on one night and the hotel managed beautifully. We would stay at this hotel again. Thankyou very much.

Not a high level of customer service but a cheap place to sleep if you want to explore the surrounding countryside or take day trips by train.

This was a basic room at an inn. The floor was slanted and the toilet had 500 year old plumbing. The bed was comfy. The room was clean. Could walk to town and train station. Some of the staff were friendly. Others not so welcoming. It was OK, clean and on a very hot day a fan running in the room which was excellent. It was showing signs of ageing and could do with a revamp. In a single room bed comfy curtains cheap, bathroom old. Evening meal in the bar satisfactory atmosphere and service bit poor. Breakfast was very good indeed and good service.

This is a hotel that I’ve stayed in multiple times and been happy about it. The interior is in need of some tlc and refurbishment but the hospitality more than makes up for this. Everyone was kind, friendly and helpful. What was a wonderful surprise was the food. Plenty of choice and very tasty too. The quality was high and the portion size filling. I can honestly say that I enjoyed every meal that I had and the Sunday roast is worth every penny.

On arrival we were greeted by a woman who was pretty rude and unwelcoming. She told us we couldn’t check in for another half an hour and to do what we liked to kill the time. She looked miserable, was unfriendly and we felt like we were just a nuisance. The room was very basic with two wardrobes and in definite need of a lick of paint. It was shabby. The room was incredibly hot during the night. We booked a table with the same woman who we checked in with to be told you’ve got two choices of times as we’ve got a table of 30 in tonight. The food that evening was good. When we asked to see the dessert menu we were told by the waitress that we couldn’t have dessert because the chef was too busy cooking for the table of 30. We were guests staying there and had a reservation so to be told we couldn’t have a course of food because they’re were too busy was really unprofessional. Just as we were about to leave to go and pay the bill at the bar, the waitress came back and said the chef says he’s got time to do desserts now if you’re still interested. We won’t be returning.

I spent 3 nights in the bear hotel, hotel is old and just what I was expecting, food was great and reasonable prices room and bed was clean staff were fantastic and I would definitely recommend it and I would stay again, definitely not 5 stars but did the job for me and my son visiting the goodwood festival of speed . Free parking and reasonable prices for drinks at the bar.

Nice clean hotel with great parking for a large van. Food was good with a decent breakfast. Only downside is the hotel is looking a bit dated a could use a bit of a spruce up.

I've stayed at this hotel before, so know not to expect 5* luxury - but this visit was disappointing. Check in is a pain - there was no-one at Reception so had to go hunting to find someone who can help. The person that booked me in was pleasant enough. My first impressions of the room were poor - it's cheap, but it ain't cheerful. Just a small, drab room overlooking a busy road. I used the loo and upon flushing was greeted with a howling airlock-type noise from the plumbing that took a good 10 minutes to die down - it was incredibly loud, and was the same all through the visit. There's no way you can use the loo at night because it would wake people up. I reported this to Reception (who I had to track down again) but was informed that there were no more rooms available, so I had no option but to live with it. Went down for something to eat & drink later in the evening - no use, the kitchen shut at 8:30, far too early for somewhere that advertises itself as a hotel. No draught cider, no draught ale...and a disdainful, disinterested attitude from the chap behind the bar. I'm hoping this was his first day and he was learning, because if he was the experienced staff...yikes. The bed in the single room I had was lumpy & uncomfortable. Half the hotel (the traditional front bar) was shut - a shame as that's the more pleasant part of the hotel. If I was to sum up this hotel, I would use the word 'tired'. Not recommended unless your budget can't stretch further.
