Whilst the hotel is a little dated, the staff and service was excellent. The dining room and lounge were extremely pleasing on the eye and were much more modern compared with the bedroom. One thing that was not agreeable, was the compulsory service charge that was put on the bill in the dining room. This perhaps wouldn’t have been quite so bad but drinks purchased in the bar during the afternoon were also added to our evening meal bill, and the percentage service charge was added to that as well. Future afternoon drinks were paid for at the time of ordering.

Hotel feels tired and has a not so great smell. Bathroom really cramped. Room wasn’t serviced as requested, but reception friendly and helpful. Doors banging shut made the walls wobble and can hear other gets on the phone etc… Parking is a real squeeze, but at least they have some. Bed was comfy.

Bar, breakfast, restaurant are lovely. Staff are friendly. Room was very clean. Location was great. Free parking on site. We were staying in the patio rooms which had one window looking into an indoor patio area. For me felt a bit claustrophobic as no window on the outside. Pipes are loud. Was fine for one night but wouldn't want to have stayed longer.

The staff were really, really nice and helpful. I can’t praise them enough. The room was reasonably clean, as was the bathroom. However, the plumbing was not so good, particularly the toilet cistern, which had issues. Bathroom fittings in need of major upgrade. One thing is that the place advertises parking for guest. However, spaces are limited and on return in the late afternoon from one trip away, I returned to find no parking spaces. I had to park on the street in a a spot with restrictions. I had to get up early the next day to move it in order to prevent myself from getting a ticket.

Great position on the high street which is quite long with plenty of shops. The building stands out on the high street from other buildings close by. The only down side was the mould around the bath taps and the bottom of the shower door on the top of the bath, has you sit on the toilet you look directly at the mould which is very off putting.

Our room had recently been upgraded to a lovely standard but hadn't been cleaned, dust, cobwebs and mould in the bathroom. There was rain water pouring in to the covered patio making the exit from our room an accident waiting to happen. The beds were lovely and clean and the staff excellent.

Our room was incredibly tiny and not practical for two people, the sink was in the bedroom not the bathroom so this brought about some problems as you can image. We asked to move but they were unable to accomodate this request. Housekeeping wasn't the best either, not hoovered throughout our 4 day stay, just bins emptied and biscuits replenished. The staff were all very friendly, breakfast was lovely we ate in the restaurant once for an evening meal, again delicious. They are clearly mid refurb, the dining areas, lounge and bar all very nice but really feel room 29 was not fit for purpose. I doubt we will stay there again. Location is great for shops alternative places to eat, the train station, nice marina and a short drive to lovely beaches.

Comfortable bed. POORLY insulated room .Adjacent rooms snoring all night. Room was in a courtyard .Public walk way had full view of room/ bed when opened . Strange curtain arrangement , on the inside , to cover door/ window .Bathroom door would not close ,due to warped door frame . Female bar person persisted in throwing , loudly, empty bottles in bin under the bar counter .. Breakfast and breakfasts staff , excelent .

Lovely stay in the family room which was nice and clean. Really big space, smartly decorated. Added bonus of outdoor patio area which was great as we had glorious weather. The breakfast was amazing! Loads of choice and fantastic quality produce. Staff professional and friendly. Can't fault the place. Thanks for a great stay!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Royal Sportsman. It is true that the rooms are quite compact but we had everything we needed for our 4 night stay. The bed was comfortable and everything was immaculately clean. The staff were all friendly and helpful, going out of their way to assist with parking and a special breakfast request. The breakfast is excellent with a good range of choice. We ate at the hotel on two evenings and the quality of the food and service were brilliant. Porthmadog was a great place to stay and we would certainly return to the Royal Sportsman without hesitation!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Royal Sportsman. It is true that the rooms are quite compact but we had everything we needed for our 4 night stay. The bed was comfortable and everything was immaculately clean. The staff were all friendly and helpful, going out of their way to assist with parking and a special breakfast request. The breakfast is excellent with a good range of choice. We ate at the hotel on two evenings and the quality of the food and service were brilliant. Porthmadog was a great place to stay and we would certainly return to the Royal Sportsman without hesitation!

Very small room and bathroom, , my laptop has a bigger screen than the tv , fan in bathroom sounds like a train , could hear all the other guest . Good cooked breakfast but fruit bowl tasted fermented.

We originally booked 3 nights but extended it to 4 nights because we enjoyed it so much. All the staff were really friendly and the food was excellent. A very good location for many local attractions

We originally booked 3 nights but extended it to 4 nights because we enjoyed it so much. All the staff were really friendly and the food was excellent. A very good location for many local attractions

Room clean and comfortable, the only issue we had was the bed sliding about with the slightest touch. Great breakfast and evening meal just a bit too small a portion for the cheeseboard.Loved the vegan schnitzel! Parking was easy and hotel was in a good location.

Great position on the high street which is quite long with plenty of shops. The building stands out on the high street from other buildings close by. The only down side was the mould around the bath taps and the bottom of the shower door on the top of the bath, has you sit on the toilet you look directly at the mould which is very off putting.

Our room was incredibly tiny and not practical for two people, the sink was in the bedroom not the bathroom so this brought about some problems as you can image. We asked to move but they were unable to accomodate this request. Housekeeping wasn't the best either, not hoovered throughout our 4 day stay, just bins emptied and biscuits replenished. The staff were all very friendly, breakfast was lovely we ate in the restaurant once for an evening meal, again delicious. They are clearly mid refurb, the dining areas, lounge and bar all very nice but really feel room 29 was not fit for purpose. I doubt we will stay there again. Location is great for shops alternative places to eat, the train station, nice marina and a short drive to lovely beaches.

We found The Royal Sportsman to be clean, comfortable and friendly. Just a short walk from the Rail Station and easy walking to many points of interest including the steam train station. The restaurant at the RS was a very nice surprise and we enjoyed all our meals there. Most of all we appreciated the staff who were all very kind and helpful. We would certainly book a room at The Royal Sportsman if we return to Porthmadog.

The hotel was convenient for the things we wanted to do. We found the staff very friendly & willing to help in any way they could. We were able to park at the hotel but I’m aware this might have been an issue.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Royal Sportsman. It is true that the rooms are quite compact but we had everything we needed for our 4 night stay. The bed was comfortable and everything was immaculately clean. The staff were all friendly and helpful, going out of their way to assist with parking and a special breakfast request. The breakfast is excellent with a good range of choice. We ate at the hotel on two evenings and the quality of the food and service were brilliant. Porthmadog was a great place to stay and we would certainly return to the Royal Sportsman without hesitation!

Staff were very friendly. The food was excellent. Was made to feel very welcome. Had a room on the ground floor which was lovely. Staff were very helpful during the electric outage. A great place and intend to return very soon

Whilst the hotel is a little dated, the staff and service was excellent. The dining room and lounge were extremely pleasing on the eye and were much more modern compared with the bedroom. One thing that was not agreeable, was the compulsory service charge that was put on the bill in the dining room. This perhaps wouldn’t have been quite so bad but drinks purchased in the bar during the afternoon were also added to our evening meal bill, and the percentage service charge was added to that as well. Future afternoon drinks were paid for at the time of ordering.

Bar, breakfast, restaurant are lovely. Staff are friendly. Room was very clean. Location was great. Free parking on site. We were staying in the patio rooms which had one window looking into an indoor patio area. For me felt a bit claustrophobic as no window on the outside. Pipes are loud. Was fine for one night but wouldn't want to have stayed longer.

Nice hotel. They did really well. This is a very old building. Room was very small and noisy, but well appointed. Breakfast was amazing.

Very small room and bathroom, , my laptop has a bigger screen than the tv , fan in bathroom sounds like a train , could hear all the other guest . Good cooked breakfast but fruit bowl tasted fermented.

Room was clean, bed was really comfortable, slept really well,a little warm as radiators were on but a fan is provided, staff were really friendly, breakfast is excellent but the time slot of 07:30-09:30 is a little early, parking is really good with a roof above which stops any seagull mess👍…. Overall an excellent place to stay

It would have been useful to know that there was no lift in the hotel. Third floor to get luggage upstairs without porterage is not what I expect from a supposedly four star hotel. Would definitely not stay there again

Overall we enjoyed our Stay very much. The Staff were Friendly and Efficient, the Breakfasts and Dinners Fabulous plus the free on Site Parking very Convenient . On the down side we were in Room 7 which is a Ground Floor Non-Courtyard Room. It only has one Small Window making it very Gloomy inside and the Water was never Hot only Luke Warm after running for even a few minutes.

Overall we enjoyed our Stay very much. The Staff were Friendly and Efficient, the Breakfasts and Dinners Fabulous plus the free on Site Parking very Convenient . On the down side we were in Room 7 which is a Ground Floor Non-Courtyard Room. So many good points to mention. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Helpful when asked questions. Couldn't fault my dining experience. Food was delicious and staff were professional and happy. The Restaurant and bar have been modernised which look great. You don't actually realise you are in the same hotel. That's my personal opinion. My single room was small but perfectly clean and well presented Location was great. Walking distance to everything you need. Parking is available, as arrived early enough to get a space I was lucky but I can imagine others may struggle because the number of spaces is very small and they like to reserve them for blue badge holders. Despite being offered basic housekeeping, this didn't occur. Which meant I only had one teabag for my 3 night stay. Yes I probably could have asked but I was out all day hiking and didn't notice until returning. The floor boards in my room were extremely squeaky which isn't great when getting ready early in the morning. Others would have been disturbed.
