St Charles Hotel Downtown Hudson

This property was not as described on EXPEDIA nor their website. TV service was not available, the microwave did not work, the elevator was out of service. Breakfast was included from 7:30a-9:30a, however it was set up late on both mornings that I was there. I chose a hotel with breakfast specifically because my husband was there on a business trip with a tight schedule. I came to relax and enjoy my stay in the hotel and to explore the town. I was disappointed that I could not watch some tv when I was in the room. The room was clean with a comfortable bed. The hotel has a great location with a lot of potential. I hope they improve the property and hire more staff in the near future. The location is perfect for walking around the main street of Hudson (Warren Street) with restaurants in walking distance.

The St. Charles Hotel is so close to being an amazing place to stay. The location is cool, right in the heart of Hudson. Lots to wander around and see. The city appears to be in the midst of a rebirth or renewal. Some places are updated and vibrant- others places and in various stages of decay and/or restoration.

 So, the hotel. The building is very cool. An old building with lots of character thats been there forever. Part of it is restored and the other part looks like an abandoned building. The front entrance is closed - doesn’t look to be in repair - just closed. When we arrived there was no one at the desk located at the side entrance. There was a sign to call a couple numbers to get a hold of someone. Eventually someone did answer and came to the desk in a couple of minutes. This wasn’t an issue really - just kind of odd. The person at the desk was helpful and got us checked in. The room was mildly updated and clean. The bathroom was remolded recently and was in decent shape. Our room looked out over the front of the hotel with a street view. The room windows are in serious need of cleaning and repair. They looked open from the street - just broken I guess. The flower boxes haven’t been weeded or cared for in a very long time. With a bit more effort the place could be spectacular. It’s a nice place to stay if you can past the first impression.

No TV. Elevator broken. No Morning Breakfast (as advertised)

Property appears to be under large scale renovation. It should make this clear in the description. Room are clean but otherwise, feels like you are staying in a construction site.

The hotel is completely run down and under some sort of construction. The room had many things wrong with it. This hotel was suggested by a wedding we were attending. Not worth the price and would not have stayed if we weren’t attending a wedding and traveling from far. The staff were friendly and accommodating, but the facilities and hotel itself was not somewhere I’d pay money to stay.

Staff and room were excellent. Coffee station is great with some fruit, and waffles and rolls/pastries. Location is very convenient to Warren Street and shops etc. Elevator is out of service, and there does seem to be some work going on, front entrance boarded up. "Please excuse our appearance" etc etc. All told, it was clean and comfy and convenient. Just not a luxury hotel.

I arrived at the time I was told was check-in time: 3.00. The manager said check-in time was actually 4.00 on weekends. (People arriving after me had the same experience.) After 10-15 minutes he got me checked in and said he'd "waive" the early check in fee. Gee, thanks. He also told me the hotel is locked after midnight and that I have to call a number to gain entrance (?!) but later that night when I returned to the hotel at 1 am, the front door was open. Wide open. No one there at all. Not the safest situation... The hotel itself is a bit run down although the room was fine. It's cheaper than other area hotels and it doesn't require two night stays so I guess it fits a need. If money is not a concern, this is not the place for you. If you're trying to crash for a night or so as inexpensively as possible, this is an adequate option.

The price and location of this hotel make it easy to ignore minor areas that are rough around the edges. For example, if youon’t like the free breakfast, which is admittedly spare, step outside and for to the Hudson Roastery, a fantastic coffee spot. You’ll also be steps away from a pleasant little park and Warren Street, a commercial strip loaded with great restaurants and shopping. Parking was plentiful and the overall vibe was relaxed. I’d stay here again!

Great price for the location on a holiday weekend. No frills hotel but clean and loved the spacious parking lot!

The hotel was dirty and smelly. Very disappointed.

The room smelled gross, amenities were typical of a lower end hotel. I have little good to say except the location was great for walking around Hudson. The bathroom was disgustingly dirty, but they had plenty of towels. The guests next door were loud all night long, both nights. Despite telling the front desk about it the first night. Guess there is not much that can be done. I can see potential for this property to be revitalized. Price was steep for getting little sleep even though, that is the purpose of getting a hotel room when traveling...

My room was fairly clean, except for the fact that there was a prominent blood stain on the underside of the duvet (i.e. the side facing my body when I got between the covers). The front desk (only?) employee was overwhelmed by 4 groups checking in, none of whom had rooms ready because there was only one person cleaning the hotel. I was already 30 minutes late to the wedding I was in town for, and so I decided against requesting a new duvet (how would I have gotten a word in edgewise to make the request? who would have had the time to remake the bed?) and just slept on the other side of the bed from the blood.

This hotel is very old and outdated. The sheets had stains and barely fit the bed. The entire room smelled like perfumed disinfectant. The AC\heat unit was dusty and dirty. The phones next the bed and the hair dryer were filthy. There were cracks in the walls. The walls are paper thin and you can hear everything in the rooms next door and hallways.

The front desk was kind and understanding when I told them that our sheets were dirty, there were tacks in the floor, the phones don’t work to call out of the room. There were 3 large spiders in bathroom. There was dirt and black hair in bedding. The pillows were all stained. It smelled awful in the hallways. The paint is chipping off. There were homeless people sleeping at doorway. I tried to book another room immediately and everything was booked within 1 hr radius . The lamp looked like it caught on fire recently . The fridge froze our milk and juice and had to throw it away. The AC unit worked but smelled weird. My son didn’t want to stay. We drove from VA to my cousins wedding and had to bring in our sleeping bags and sheets.the elevator took a couple minutes to close the door. The staff said they were working on fixing the phones. I got several bites from spiders and hoping they aren’t bed bugs. The door dot our room didn’t lock.

We didn't like anything. We could not get past the unkempt condition of the hotel. There is no reason that a hotel should be dirty.

The room was dingy and cramped, and the curtains were falling off the wondow, which was in terrible condition. The coffee maker was dusty on the inside. The elevator was filthy - it looked as if something had spilled on the floor and had not been cleaned up for a long time. The hotel has potential, but it's not being realized. If the front door worked it would add charm.

The hotel was clean and the rooms were like that of a Fairfield Inn. The lobby on the first level is a two star level, and the breakfast was packaged to go processed food. On the plus side, the front desk was helpful, the rooms were clean and it’s pet friendly.

Great location. Staff was super friendly. Rooms were very clean. The hotel is getting a renovation and I can’t wait to see it when it’s done.

Ok for basic lodging- fairly sterile room was clean and mattress was very good. But some misgivings- at 6:15 am there was a banging on our door- woke us up and of course distressing- turns out it was another guest trying to find there way back to their room- But NO PEEP HOLE VIEWER to see whoever it was! Called the desk, and NO ANSWER! WENT TO VOICE MAIL!!! I was ready to call 911 but the knocker went away and we went back to bed- notified the manager as we checked out, she apologized, said she got my message, and reviewed the security camera footage, confirmed the knocker was a guest who forgot their room number. Great! Also, shower had no anti- slip strips on floor, very slippery, and loose wall tiles in the shower stall. We will not return as guests.

The best thing this hotel has going for it is its location. The beds are comfortable. TV in the room didn’t work. Bathroom door didn’t lock. Not bad for its price, but there are better options in Hudson.

This is an old hotel that is in dire need of repair and renovation. The ceiling was broken down in places. The door to my room was buckled and getting unglued. The paint on the walis was chipped. The smoke detector was removed. The interior decoratng was not good. The staff however was wonderful. The manager was the best, the rooms were clean. The bathroom was small but good.

In a great location but don’t think it was worth the money. Facilities seem like they are going through some upgrades. Broken tiles/trim in bathrooms. Our room had awful paint color with flecks of paint chips. The air conditioner was off in our room prior to our arrival so we walked in to a hot room. Bed sheets had stains on them. Outlet plugs were very loose and almost didn’t hold a charge.

I would not go back. My room was extremely out of level, the air conditioner was right above your head at the bathroom sink, the TV didn’t work, and the walls appeared to have water damage.

Broken bathroom fixtures and noisy ally outside window. And paper thin walls. Could hear everything.

Run down needs repair. A/C barely works

Zach at the front desk was so accommodating. If he goes, that place is going under.

Lobby unattended upon arrival, throughout the night, and all morning -- including checkout. If you want to be alone -- completely alone -- and do not require any service or attention, and you don't mind having to call a phone number to get in after midnight, then this is the place for you. If you don't care about bathroom doors that don't close, sawdust-stuffed pillows, hallways and other common areas in various states of disrepair, refrigerators on the brink, and empty vending machines, and a really, really basic breakfast. And, if you love the smell of cheap, nauseating air freshener in your room -- then I think you'll love this 1-star motel hidden behind a charming 18th century facade.

Nightmare. I made a reservation on November 25th for New Year's Eve 2023 for my friend and I. Two hours before check in time on NYE, while we were traveling from NYC and Boston respectively to meet at the hotel, I was texted by the hotel that my reservation had been canceled because it was "New Year's Eve and no one was going to be at the hotel, but we hope to see you again." The staff member said that he contacted Expedia three days prior to cancel, however Expedia disputed this and verified that no changes were made to my reservation status and that I had a confirmed reservation. In text message conversations en route to the hotel, the staff had no accountability for the random last minute cancelation, leaving my friend and I to be homeless on New Years Eve. It is standard practice in the hotel industry for hotel staff to find alternative comparable lodging at no additional cost from the original price to the consumer in these instances. The hotel did not source alternative accommodation or volunteer to help, but relented after protracted and panicked text messaging. Upon check in, the hotel staff eventually allowed the reservation to be maintained. The hotel had massive security concerns as both the front and side doors were not locked and there was no staff in the building. Further, there were only three or four guests in the hotel, making it tantamount to an abandoned building with open entrances and no staff or guests. Also, there was no breakfast as advertised.

Do not stay here. Zero housekeeping for 5 day stay. No television, no breakfast 4 out of 5 days. The one staff person that we saw three times was extremely rude.

Considering the hotel was booked up solid, the staff did a great job working with everyone during check in.

We could not check in since no one was at front desk. Place looks like a slum.

It was great! We were comfortable, it was a unique place, and met expectations! The manager was great, too! Very helpful when we had questions.

The check-in process wasn't very pleasant. Waited with an existing guest for 11 minutes before desk attendant came from behind a closed door. It was evident he was on a personal telephone call conversation with the laughing and loud attempts to coordinate an after hours. The room was clean, stuffy smelling. The televisions did not work throughout the hotel. My desk chair in the room was broken, the chair seat sat 14 inches off the ground and wasn't secured to the base. I was able to get the staff to 'swap' the chair with another room. Checking out this morning at 6:55 am, no one was at the front desk, a sign stated the staff would be back shortly. The entry door was locked. I unlocked the door, went to the corner cafe for coffee and breakfast sandwich. I returned to the hotel at 7:20 am, still no one at the desk, sign remained. I collected my luggage, returning to the front desk, still no one. I could not get a copy of my bill. No one answering the direct dial at the hotel. I left my key cards on the desk and left. The bed was comfortable, sheets and bathroom clean. These good points are not enough to offset all the not so good points for me to rebook at the St. Charles Hotel in Hudson, NY.

The hotel is in an historic district, and it is easy to access. There are cafes and restaurants nearby. For the price, it is well worth it.

This hotel is convenient to Olana and other tourist destinations, and it's reasonably priced. The room was clean and comfortable. There were a few knicks in the wall paint. The breakfast was standard fare. The hotel is across from the park and there were quite a few unhoused people hanging about. I wouldn't go out after dark. That is why I give this hotel a so-so rating.

Room and hotel are definitely old and run down. The front of the front desk was very dusty. Abandoned buildings across the street were very scary. The locals said it’s not safe at night around there. A scary man jumped into the back seat of my sister’s car while sitting outside waiting for us to come down and they had to scream and threaten him to get out of her car. I was uneasy about the front entrance of the hotel being open with no one at the front desk at 1am when we got back from the wedding. We didn’t need a key or anything to get into the hotel entrance. I didn’t like that we couldn’t put our expensive items into the safe in the room because the instructions of how to reset the pin were completely scratched off. Other than that, our beds were clean and the room was neat. Thank goodness we only had to stay 1 night.

Great hotel at right at the end of Warren. Super convenient and walkable to the whole downtown area and train station.

the cable tv was not working, which may not have been their fault, and the breakfast was not as advertised...pretty sparse really.

They are trying to update this old hotel but it was short on services. Breakfast was billed as serving until 9:30 but at 9 there was no breakfast available.

New owners are so nice and very accommodating. They are renovating but itll be even nicer when they are done. Nice breakfast offering as well.

TV didn't work, Air conditioning barely worked, room was never cleaned, vending machine had one bag of expired pretzels in it, breakfast was... not really even a breakfast and staff was missing the majority of our stay with a "call this number" note at the front desk that no one picked up.

The breakfast area was still dirty from the day before, and I had to ask the manager to have it cleaned. Unfortunately, the next morning was the same situation. We ended up going out for breakfast down the street, which cost us an extra $60. The laundry area was also neglected, with about a quarter inch of dust on the washer and dryer. For the price of this hotel, I would recommend staying somewhere else.

Loved the creaky old wooden floor in the lobby of this 200 yr old hotel. Rooms were modern, clean, & large. Continental bkfst was meager

This hotel was BLEAK. Shocking for something that cost over 400$ for one night. The smell was horrible. When we arrived they gave us a key, we unlocked our room to find someone else already there and in the shower. They apologized and told us we would receive a discount on the room and gave us a different room than what we booked as a compromise. It was old and dirty and giving motel, not hotel. The breakfast in the morning was so rough. Microwaved sausage patties and stale bread. Truly one of my worst hotel experiences.

Very history building. Rooms very small No service. No one at desk at all need to call. Breadfast was empty. Only waffles. If you like waffles. Very dissapointed for the price!!!
