Great experience. The building is literally a revolutionary war era building that has been updated with a/c etc. Charming place great staff and live entertainment in the bar and patio.

Nice room polite staff. Great old tavern. Food was great too. Morning continental breakfast delivered in the sitting area of the rooms.

Make sure to stop for a drink at the Cellar beneath the inn!

Excellent stay! The owner did an amazing job restoring this inn. Perfect mix of modern touches and tasteful charm decor in the rooms, while the restaurant/bar were restored with character and tradition in mind. Very nice bathroom and comfortable bed. Very unique setup with a couple different staircases and a sitting area with coffee and fruit/pastries in the morning. There’s a restaurant and bar plus a tavern with live music below. Staff was super friendly and helpful (and informative about the inn’s history), and really seemed to enjoy working together. We had good cocktails, draft beer served in an icy glass, and chowder at the bar. Room price was great, much more affordable than Boston hotels. We stayed here after going to a concert at Cabot Theatre in Beverly and will definitely stay here again. Highly recommend.

Unfortunately, we spent only one night at this very quaint historic hotel. The room was spacious and had an incredibly comfortable bed! There is a restaurant, beautiful outdoor patio with bar, string lights and even a speakeasy in the basement! Parking was easy and free. The hotel staff was wonderful!

The Bell Inn was recently renovated and the accommodations were beautiful. Extremely comfortable and spotless. The lounge and outdoor patio with live entertainment made it extra special and fun.

Last minute stay and we were lucky to find The Bell Inn! Such a quaint little property, nice new rooms. Fruit, pastries, yogurt & coffee provided in common area between rooms. Only downside is that our room facing street got quite a bit of traffic noise (bumpy street + trucks=noisy). We would definitely stay again & recommend the property to others!

I am sad to leave a bad review as I was so excited to come to this hotel based on prior reviews. However, I would recommend NOT to stay here. Firstly, the cleanliness of the room was not acceptable. There was coffee splashes on the window bench that came off with water so it’s obvious that the room was not thoroughly cleaned. The sheets also did not fit the bed and there were multiple stains on them. On top of the cleanliness issues, there was the issue of so much noise. I don’t know why this hasn’t been mentioned in other reviews, however it was so extremely loud in the room from road noise & it kept us up all night for both nights of our stay, therefore having no sleep during our trip to Salem. I understand that this is an old building, however no soundproofing effort has been made and to pay so much money to stay somewhere and not be able to sleep is unacceptable. You could also hear every word from the other rooms, we woke up to the sound of someone blowing their nose at 7am. Finally, the customer service was poor. I received a charge for over C$800 on my card and I had no idea why at check in. We also received no instructions for the property or check out upon check-in. After calling the hotel, I was told this was a charge taken for incidentals. However, I was not told this and I did not consent to this charge on my credit card. The person I spoke to on the phone did not apologize and they admitted to not having the staff trained properly!? Just avoid this place.

Comfortable beds, free wifi, light breakfast served. No housekeeping, room was fairly clean but bathroom had hairs all around. Close to Salem attractions and beautiful old building.

We were there three nights we had to ask for toilet paper and our trash was running over never emptied it so it piled up for three days and you needed something. There was nobody there at night. No one to contact the people in general that you dealt with when you could fine someone were pleasant and that was probably the best thing about the motel. Beds were small uncomfortable . They did have a coffee pot out and add danishes and fresh fruit in the mornings but the coffee pot needed cleaned. I personally would not stay there again.

Very clean and comfortable room; this is no chain that tries to lipstick a pig - this is a gorgeous and clean little mom and pop. Places like this are a true gem. Staff was incredibly friendly. Probably the cleanest hotel I've ever stayed in; felt like home. Excellent dining on-site, no need to even leave. Plenty of options close by if you do however. Worth it.

We were looking forward to this stay but quickly realized some of the previous reviews were correct. For $400 a night, one would expect a clean room, clean sheets, and a shower that drains properly but instead our door combo didn’t work and we had to request several times for assistance because they were more concerned about trick or treaters than their paying guest. Our bathroom had several bugs in it but literally no one is working between 9pm and 1130am. The overview should say that it’s a b and b because the accommodations aren’t there. Our shower didn’t drain and when we told a member of staff, she just said “oh”. No apology or anything. Again… $400 a night! And finally, there were stains on the duvet that looked like blood.

Girls trip, we had a fantastic time. The staff were amazing and the property was beautiful and very clean.

This inn is lovely. The outdoor patio is beautiful. The room, immaculate and the beds comfy. Our shower in the bath was spacious. Plenty of towels and there are even robes if you like. Had a drink in the bar. The whole place is just wonderful. We didn't eat there because we wanted to go to Finz in Salem, but a look at the menu says the food is varied and delicious.

It was a cute hotel with a lot of charm and unique rooms. Unfortunately there was a lot of noise outside our room all night

What a fun little place! Everything was great, staff was nice, rooms were large and clean, and food was yummy. Take note there may be music until 10 some nights but we loved it.

Great stay. Only 2 critiques: There is quite a bit of street noise, but it's at a busy intersection so what can you really do. The wifi is a tad slow, at least on the 3rd floor. Otherwise, lovely.

The staff at this property was the highlight. Everyone was friendly and we had excellent service. Our room was also quite lovely, but there are several things that need fixing, mainly that there is absolutely no seating except the beds, and there is room for a chair or two. The television is super tiny for the space. In the bathroom, there is literally no hook or any place to put the hand towel after you’ve used it. The sink has no extra space. It is the sink, not a vanity. Any toiletry items that you might want to lay out, must be laid on the toilet tank, as it is the only available surface. The hot water in the shower took so long to warm up, that I had almost given up and put my robe on to call the front desk. It was several minutes. The beds were comfortable. There was a complementary breakfast in the morning that consisted of fruit and danish, which was just fine! We ordered dinner from the restaurant, and though it was just very simple tacos, they were delicious. Probably the best tacos I’ve had in a very long time. It is a very unique historical space, though, and I would recommend, if the property cares to fix some of the small things that would make a stay so much better.

Nice hotel but it’s on the corner of an intersection and incredibly noisy with traffic so had difficulty sleeping.

Staff were great, property was beautiful, clean etc. We ended up having issue with the AC & we are all used to sleeping in a cool room. The only one who slept was my youngest but even she woke often. Everything, the beds etc., were very comfortable but I got zero sleep, hubby got a little, & my other daughter did get some. We were there to attend graduation @ Salem State. We were on the 2nd floor which inherently would be warmer on a warmer day anyhow so having the ac not work wasn't thrilling. I didn't want to call down at 1:00 a.m. & wait for maintenance then have everyone up and wait for an unknown amount of time to have them fix for us to then try to get sleep only to be up at 6:00 a.m. departure. Fresh fruit was nice but the pastries, I have to admit weren't great. Muffins were hard as rocks. Croissants were ok. We had dinner on-site because I didn't want to drive more after traveling to get there. Food was worth every penny & more. AWESOME! I had a cheeseburger stew and it was awesome. I don't eat much anyhow but it was awesome. The rest of the meals were just as awesome. Our server was spectacular. We were downstairs in the bar area. There was a wedding dinner party @ the hotel so we decided probably best to go hide lol. All in all I would definitely stay here again as the issue was totally isolated. Gorgeous, clean, comfortable, beautiful & staff great and we love this style buildings. No one there for checkout, no staff around at all so bit strange but no issues.

The cutest inn. The room was clean and cosy. Staff was great- Tyler the bartender was GREAT, he was friendly, offered amazing service, and was knowledgeable about the area when we had questions. I will make this recommendation for travelers- if you are arriving before 11am and want to come in early to either leave your bags or check in, just contact the property beforehand to let them know. Since it is an inn vs. a large hotel they are not staffed round the clock so you can’t go in at any hour without the door code (which for security services is actually great). I would recommend and we’d stay there again.

Heather was so kind upon check-in and helped me to feel right at home. Courtney at the restaurant went above and beyond to help me with making the most of my trip. The whole staff is really ready to help you feel cared for after a travel day as rough as mine was. They made me feel like I was in heaven.

The Inn has a lot of potential, but the service was lacking when we were there. The single time we saw someone she was quite nice, but we felt pretty on our own. There was no breakfast other than a Keurig we had to fill in our bathroom and some sugar free yogurts in a fridge. In no way was that a continental breakfast. Ambiance of the property was great. Loved the outside second floor patio area but the property is currently over promising and under delivering :(

This hotel was a perfect first stay on a multi- leg trip. We had a lovely light filled room on the 2nd floor. We also had the best fish I’ve tasted in years at the restaurant downstairs. Delish! Our only non-5 star experience was with the lady who was supposed to be checking in guests. She sat at one of the tables in the main floor where you enter with her back to us on the phone for > 10 minutes. We stood there wondering if she was a guest. We literally waited until a guest walked through and pointed out that she was the one supposed to check us in. That’s the only unpleasant snafu during this stay. Perhaps next time we visit, there will be someone at the entrance who will greet the guests.

Checking in was slow, but the young receptionist was friendly and welcoming and the place is beautiful. Check out was non existent! There seemed to be nobody there. I choose to stay at inns rather than with a large hotel chain because generally they feel a little more personal. I think the Bell Inn is more focused on the guests restaurant experience rather than the overnight guests. Dinner was great. Good food and good service. My last impression is leaving a cavernous empty space on a cold snowy morning without the option of breakfast or even a self serve coffee. Not a good last impression and certainly I didn’t feel like a well taken care of guest as I was leaving. The place is beautifully restored and restaurant is great. But service for overnight guests seems to be non existent. Disappointed

This was overall a nice place and a good experience but what I'd like people to know is that the staff is very good in person but horrible when trying to get in touch after we left. I was charged extra and when I tried, multiple times to get in touch, no one answers the phone and no one calls back. After a shower, I was looking for a hair dryer. Found the empty bag. Since all staff isn't back in the morning until 11am, I couldn't ask them to get me one or tell them it was missing. I wrote a note and left it in the room explaining the dryer was gone, but i did not take it and them left with wet hair. I was charged $23 so I'm assuming they charged me for the missing dryer. Like I said, I wanted to talk to someone about it but no one got back to me. I hate leaving a review like this, other then that I'd recommend them, room was very tiny as well, just so you know.

If you're looking to visit Salem and save on lodging, this is the place. I visited for 3 nights (no car) and I was pretty happy. The Salem Skipper picks up about 2 blocks away, a short walk and an easy ride into downtown Salem (just be prepared to wait about 20-25 minutes). Down the road there is an amazing coffee shop, Breaking Grounds, with the best morning fare (gluten free options available). The hotel also provides little pastries, fruit, and yogurt for free. My room was clean and really luxe feeling. The bed was comfortable, lots of pillows, and the shower was super nice (takes a while for the water to heat up, just fyi). Plush towels, TV, mini fridge, robes, and even a diffuser with the hair dryer! Couldn't ask for a nicer room for a great price. One note, which I didn't dock a star for: Be prepared to kind of be on your own, there is really no front desk staff unless the Tavern itself is open (and even then it's hard to find someone, as I experienced during my stay when I wanted to update my payment method). But I did eventually contact someone after I was home, and they fixed the issue quickly.

Positives first - beautiful newly refurbished hotel which is both comfortable and came with all room amenities. Free pastries and fruit supplied for breakfast which was a lovely touch. Now for the reason I would avoid - we arrived on a Monday and apparently the hotel is ‘closed’ on Mondays - no one whatsoever at the property - should have had an email and text message with self check in details and door code to get in which I didn’t get. There was a phone number on the closed sign which you are expected to call - I’m from the UK and it would have cost me a fortune to ring this US number from my UK mobile. Luckily an American lady was just entering the hotel and rang on my behalf. I’ve travelled the world and never before found a hotel that was closed with no staff!So we self check in, we found Jewellry in our room that I sent an email about (no one to hand it in too) - didn’t get a reply until after we had checked out so just had to leave it in the room where I had found it (hopefully it wasn’t sentimental to the loser). And to top it off I am now fighting to be charged what I agreed with Hotels.com on booking - my price was the room rate including tax - the hotel have charged me that total amount as the room rate and then added tax on top…. 4 emails in, I’ve sent the hotels.com details but they are still overcharging me. I very impersonal hotel which I would absolutely avoid. It was our last night of a New England 6 state vacation and has left a bad taste - never again!

Such a beautiful location! We had an amazing time on our trip. Less than 10 minutes away from many attractions in Salem. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay here again!

I found this property last minute, booking the day of travel. It is a gem! The employees were all so friendly and the history of the property (revolutionary war era) is fascinating! It was a 1-mile walk to historic Salem, MA. I can’t say enough good things about the Inn and especially the employees. Highly recommend this quaint, charming destination.

The Bell Inn is a very nice hotel. We stayed only 1 night, so did not get to experience all of the amenities. However, check in was very smooth, the staff was excellent and the complimentary coffee and breakfast was a nice benefit. The surrounding area was calm, although a short drive was necessary to get to any activities. It is a great place to stay when visiting Boston or Salem. I would come back and spend a few more nights in the future.

Great staff, Tavern and Room. Area around wasn’t great but cheap Ubers to Salem and surrounding. My daughter and I would stay again.

No dining room breakfast in the morning. Simply a banana, boxed sweets and Keurig coffee. Location is not the nicest area. Room was lovely. Staff was friendly. Only big plus is the driving proximity to Salem. Was hoping to be able to walk around the area, not an option. Otherwise, inn itself was pleasant.

Absolutely beautiful property. The rooms and atmosphere is stunning!!! Staff was so friendly and helpful. Definitely want to go back!! Highly highly recommend!!! Extremely close and even walkable to Salem to see all of the witch sights, shopping and great restaurants!!

Grand historic building renovated to to modern standards. Exceptionally clean, and expertly renovated to meet modern standards. Carpet, floors, walls, windows, every thing spotless. We loved the restaurant and bar downstairs.

Lovely and graciously appointed room at the Bell Inn, very comfortable and quiet. I appreciated the water, coffee, tea and yogurt available in the common seating area, where a light breakfast of fruit and pastries was set out in the morning. Easy parking lot just next door; friendly staff.

Fantastic staff, incredible 5 star food (the fresh haddock amazing), atmosphere bereft was palpable. We will definitely be returning for a longer stay.

One of the best hotels we ever stayed in. Had so much charm you couldn’t contain it! The staff were super friendly and helpful. They made my picky daughter a root beer float that wasn’t on the menu. The 2nd floor had a balcony to hang out and an upstairs living where we enjoyed a couple glasses of wine. There was a great pizza place across the street called the Gallo Nero and a McDonald's close by. If you are in area, must stay here!!the outdoor courtyard area was a great place to relax! We got lucky with front row parking and never had to drive anywhere. We only stayed for one night but it was nice to stay in a place that had so much history in it and was beautifully updated inside, especially in the bedrooms and bathrooms!
