The hotel is a small oceanfront property. We had a second floor oceanfront view room. The property is older, but well maintained. The hotel is family operated, and the staff was friendly and helpful. Our unit had a king bed with a premium mattress. The Ke Ala Hele Makalae Path is right outside the property. The hotel has cruiser bikes available for free to guests. Parking is free, and there are no additional fees. The property is quiet, with a great oceanfront location. Restaurants are within easy walking distance. This was a great value compared to other Kapaa oceanfront properties.

Lovely balcony with ocean perhaps 50 yards away. Walking path from the little town (Kapaa) past the hotel and on up the coast was wonderful. Beautiful pool. Couple of great restaurants nearby (try Mariachis for great mexican). I would recommend this property unconditionally.

Room was clean and the bed really comfy. I got to borrow a bike to ride up the coastal trail. The staff helped book my taxi to the airport. Wonderful and friendly place. Highly recommend to stay here.

Front desk lady were very nice and helpful. I got a nice ocean front room. It was a bit old but clean. Nice surroundings and very close to a lot of stores, bicycle trail, restaurants and food trucks. Complementary bicycles and free parking were nice. I felt like i got more free ammenities (towels, bicycle and parking) and better service than the Hilton Garden Inn we stayed after.

We booked a single night at this hotel to use the amenities and have a room to shower and change in before our red eye flight home. It fulfilled the role perfectly for us! The staff was super friendly, the room clean and the ocean view spectacular! We sat by the pool to soak up some sun...chairs were a bit worn out, but served their purpose. Location was great...there is road noise on the property, but there were several shops and restaurants within walking distance. Less than 20 minutes from the airport so easy to head out when we were done. The room/hotel in general was a bit dated, but as I said, it was what we needed for the day. Lots of DVDs, games, amenities, etc. Surf was too rough to swim in when we were there in the end of December. There is an elevator to reach the upper floors.

Family run hotel, and they were very hospitable. Nice extras, like free bikes to borrow and movies that were made in Kauai to borrow (Sharktopus, anyone?). Clean, well maintained facilities and pool. Room was very comfortable. Would definitely come again.

It was directly on to the beach with a beautiful pool as well, I had a patio leading out on to the beach front. They have all these extras for free, like borrowing a bike and local coffee to use with your coffeemaker in the room. Can easily walk to the town to get food, drinks or coffee. Absolutely beautiful.

What a wonderful, cute island hotel. Staff was friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Homemade banana bread warmed the office! Location was practically on the beach, across from great food and coffee places, and right off the walking path through town. The amenities are perfect. Pool with a waterfall, bikes, beach chairs, movies, and much more! Facilities could use a cosmetic update (repaint, carpet cleaned) and a good dusting (fan blades, AC unit, behind furniture, & outlets) but the bed was clean and comfy. Bathrooms were cleaned and well stocked. Parking lot was easy peasy to get too. Will be coming back, no doubt.

The hotel is dated. Our mattress rolled to the center and needs to be replaced. The shower let out an ear-piercing squeel that could not be stopped. However, it is in a great location, walkable to fun restaurants and coffee shops. It is on the ocean with great views from some rooms, and it has a great lanai with chairs as well as chairs on the lawn as well. The pool is fabulous, well-kept and clean, and the waterfall was a real plus. Overall, we would stay here again, but hope they update the rooms.

Such a beautiful view! Right off of the walking path that runs down the east coast of Kauai. The beach isn't swimmable, it is quite rocky...but it is a stunning view. The hotel staff was nice, but the beach chairs they let us borrow were broken, the room was a bit run down and unfinished, and there was constant beeping noise 24/7 that some staff said was fixable if a technician came out, while others said it was just the way it was. It was very distracting, especially at night. Only affects one or two rooms.

After checking in after a long flight, we noticed the bathroom sink drain stopper was broken - I had to remove it, then the next morning when going to take a shower, I noticed the tub had mold and rust, and that drain was clogged and draining slowly. I reported this to the front desk and the only response I got was that they would inform their maintenance person. Again I communicated to the hotel about the issue and received no response. The hotel’s location is ideal but the room I had was sinful. Be advised

Beds were clean but the bathroom need work. There was mold in tthe tub and the air smelled of mold as well. So much so we didn't feel it was safe to stay there. We left before staying even one night. We killed about 5 mosquitoes in the first 10 minutes in the room. There was a huge crack under the door. Like the seal didn't exist. We felt like there would a bunch of giant american cockroaches crawling in every night while we slept. No day to day housekeeping. Now for the good. Lots of free amenities and a massage service on the property. Beautiful beach right out back and decent pool.

The room we are in is dirty. Walls even dirty. Coffee strains on floor. Rug dirty and floors in bathroom sticky. Throw pillows ..white..are dirty. I The property is older which is fine if it were clean.

The view from the hotel patio was extraordinary. The hotel it self was not so great. Roaches in the room, had to be very careful not to leave luggage on the floor, hoping to keep the roaches out of our luggage. The beds were old and worn out. The rooms overall were dated and in need of repair. I was told you have to request house keeping, so I did. They never came. The pool was nice.

Only stayed for one night and we arrived a little after 11 PM, however, I notified the management of my expected late arrival and they texted me what I needed to get into the room. This was a great process, both easy and efficient. However, when we woke up and found that the coffeemaker was virtually unusable, I could not plug it in and it was filthy, I was very disappointed. Lastly, the shower can use recalling. The mold is not inviting. Lady at the front desk was very nice and also efficient at check out.

From the Ocean looking at the resort and pool area you would think that it is very nice. The grounds are nice and the location on the water is a plus. The issue is that the rooms are very old and have issues. The carpets were very stained and wasnt great to walk around on. The beds arent in great shape and the overall feel inside was not good. The balcony had cigarette buds everywhere. The chairs were old and the railings rusted. The staff was friendly.

Friendly staff. Room is dusty and moldy. The sheets and towels were clean. Armoire in room had mold on bottom half. Hadn’t been dusted in at least a few weeks. Walls could use a fresh coat of paint. Carpet floors were sticky and dirty. For around $300/night, you’d expect a clean room. Pictures on their website are not current. Might have been 10 years ago. Beautiful views and close to restaurants.

Gorgeous location oceanfront and on bike/walking path. Hotel rooms need total renovation. Carpets are dirty and falling apart. Bath tub is ancient . Walls are stained. No screens on sliding door. Such a shame because the location is excellent!

I've stayed here twice. The oceanfront view is amazing, situated at convenient location on the island and the cost is very reasonable. Staff is super friendly and always available during the posted office hours and being able to do laundry is a huge plus. There are some great spots to eat within walking distance. Definitely don't miss out on Sam's Oceanview restaurant right next door. My only complaint is that the mattress was totally worn out which resulted in significant back pain after sleeping on it for a couple nights. If you have back problems like I do, this is the only reason I'd have hesitation to book a stay.

Great little hotel! Staff incredibly friendly and made sure you had what you needed. Not the fanciest place but every room has an ocean view and you are right on the water. I Had a problem with my refrigerator when I got there and they moved me to a different room and upgraded me for the inconvenience. Great location, Between North Shore and South shore.

Loved the view from our balcony of the ocean. Property and rooms need some updating.

Loved the view from the patio. Disappointed that our twin queens room didn't have the in room jacuzzi ,which was a major reason for us choosing this property. The first 3 days staying there 2 rooms south of us there was local traffic in and out and dope smoking wafting our way. The same situation the last 3 nights from 1 room north. These were all beach level, I would not have liked my kids staying in that environment.

Unbeatable location on the ocean with little beach and nice grounds. Good price for location. However, our room wasn’t cleaned when we arrived and we had to wait 2.5 hours for that. We did get a $50 credit for this inconvenience. Our room was comfortable but somewhat dated. Be aware that windows don’t open in rooms so there’s no enjoying the ocean air; you have to use the A/C. Beds were comfy and we slept well but were glad we only stayed 1 night.

On the positive side, the location is great as far as proximity to the beach, a great walking path, and walkable food options are concerned. On the negative, rooms are definitely in need of upgrades, very dated and run down. Sink leaked, toilet didn’t flush without plunging on occasion, bathroom mirror needed replacement. Traffic in front of hotel and in this area can be really congested either direction depending on the time of day. Mattress was not comfortable. Overall it was good value for the money, but a little upgrade would really make this a repeat location.

The hotel is dated. Our mattress rolled to the center and needs to be replaced. The shower let out an ear-piercing squeel that could not be stopped. However, it is in a great location, walkable to fun restaurants and coffee shops. It is on the ocean with great views from some rooms, and it has a great lanai with chairs as well as chairs on the lawn as well. The pool is fabulous, well-kept and clean, and the waterfall was a real plus. Overall, we would stay here again, but hope they update the rooms.

The hotel sits steps from the ocean. If you get the ocean view you can sit on the terrace and watch the sun rise. Beautiful! You’re close to restaurants and a wonderful walking path. Bed is large though sheets though clean were worn. Bathroom was spacious and clean. Room was shabby in spots. Some of the staff were friendly and on top of things. The woman who checked me in and was behind the desk was welcoming and helpful. You can borrow beach chairs and umbrellas to take to any of the wonderful spots on the island. There was a problem with someone smoking cigarettes and weed near my room that she tried to solve though she didn’t investigate. She also didn’t offer to change my room. I had a short stay so I didn’t ask to change. The guy who was also in the office was surly and very unhelpful. Just be warned that the hotel is near 3 weed stores so it’s prevalent! Turns out it was people in the room below mine who were partying big time. It was New Years so maybe it was to be expected! Mixed bag of a stay.

Super friendly, helpful staff, immediate positive response to any issue. The property itself and our room was wonderful. It was perfect for us. The downside was nightly noise from roadwork going on all night during weekdays. Some room renovations going on below us was on the noisy side as well. However, we would gladly come back and stay again. We also really enjoyed being in the historic town of Kapaa and all it had to offer. The Coral Reef was a great home base when we ventured to all the other areas in Kauai we visited. Thank you so much to everyone there for all the kindness you showed us during our 8 day stay.❤️

Loved our stay at Hotel Coral Reef. It was perfectly situated between food trucks and restaurants giving us plenty of options. We had a gorgeous view from our balcony. It was also just a short drive to Hanalei Bay and other places on the north or to Eleele in the south for our rafting excursion. We were able to rent kayaks in Kapa'a for a self guided Wailua River trip to the trail for the secret waterful. My daughter jogged on the paved oceanside trail each day and took out a bike to ride a couple times as well. The staff was extremely welcoming and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

All and all a good experience if you are on a budget, beautiful ocean view. Only disappointment was housekeeping. We were told we needed to request before noon. We were staying a week and I requested housekeeping on our 4th day. Came back from the beach at 3, still dirty. Called front desk and was interegated, "what did you request? Full service? Towells? What! Wow, I was like housekeeping. She said well they are cleaning owners apartment I will call them. An hour later a very overwhelmed gentleman came to our door to tell us he was the only housekeeper because the other housekeeper was cleaning owners apartment. He didnt have clean towels and had to come back with toilet paper. He said towels were drying and he would be back leave dirty towells on the floor in the doorway. We had supplies by 5pm, nothing else. Carpet really needed vacuuming and clean sheets would have been nice. Found very large cockroach on the 6th day. Most hotels, this is not a condo, insist on coming in to a room every 3 days, not them. Never heard a peep, no phone call or text to welcome us, ask how are stay was. So needless to say I never requested housekeeping again. Not sure why owners apartment was a bigger priority then a guest, literally would have taken 30 minutes to clean our room. Also, don't tell us. Just say you are short staffed today, let me get you supplies and come back tomorrow. Nope, never offered to come back. So as a result, I wont be back.

Overall the property was in a great location and a nice room. My issue is that my AC stopped working mid through the first night. I woke up with this issue in a steaming hot room. I called the front desk before heading out for the day and they said they would send someone right away. I returned to the room that evening around 11pm and couldn’t get ahold of anyone on the phone and had to sleep a second night with no AC but was at least able to open the door before going to sleep. The next morning I have to leave for the airport at 6am and there wasn’t anyone to talk to about the issue and I never heard a word from anyone.

Although we stayed only one night, we had a great experience! The staff was very welcoming and went over and above to make sure we were taken care of. They even had bicycles to use for the afternoon! The view was amazing and we were close to shopping and dining.

It was directly on to the beach with a beautiful pool as well, I had a patio leading out on to the beach front. They have all these extras for free, like borrowing a bike and local coffee to use with your coffeemaker in the room. Can easily walk to the town to get food, drinks or coffee. Absolutely beautiful.

The economy room we stayed in was old but clean. The bed was very comfortable. Loved using their bicycles to explore on our first night on Kauai. Not a full service resort but a nice hotel. Lovely balcony with ocean perhaps 50 yards away. Walking path from the little town (Kapaa) past the hotel and on up the coast was wonderful. Beautiful pool. Couple of great restaurants nearby (try Mariachis for great mexican). I would recommend this property unconditionally.

Wonderful property on a great beach. Clean soft sand gentle waves. Love the landscape, barbecue areas and picnic tables. Rooster wake up calls. Shopping and restaurants just a block away. We will be back for sure.

Great overall for the price, the staff is incredibly sweet and helpful, they’re always looking out for their guests. Amenities are great too, and the cafe connected to the hotel is delicious! Support local and stay here on your next visit :)

Small facility but clean. Room equipped with fridge and microwave however no utensils provided. Front desk staff was very accommodating and friendly. Homeless camp close by across the bridge. Not really an issue. Can walk to several food trucks.

Gorgeous property, perfect location right in the heart of Kapa’a. Easy walk to get breakfast, and less than an hour drive to the north or south shore. The room itself was spacious and comfortable, loved spending time on the lanai listening to the waves. I will definitely be booking the next time I am on the island!

What a wonderful, cute island hotel. Staff was friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Homemade banana bread warmed the office! Location was practically on the beach, across from great food and coffee places, and right off the walking path through town. The amenities are perfect. Pool with a waterfall, bikes, beach chairs, movies, and much more! Facilities could use a cosmetic update (repaint, carpet cleaned) and a good dusting (fan blades, AC unit, behind furniture, & outlets) but the bed was clean and comfy. Bathrooms were cleaned and well stocked. Parking lot was easy peasy to get too. Will be coming back, no doubt.

We love this little hotel. The staff is awesome and you are right on the beach. Try the in-house cafe for breakfast! If you want a quiet stay at a place that makes you feel at home. Try the Hotel coral Reef!

Overall, it was a nice and safe place to stay. The room was clean, and the beach right in front was a great bonus. We did notice a few discrepancies during our stay. The bathroom sliding door had one of the wooden slats broken/off, leaving an opening that was covered with tape. We also requested a top-floor room but were told the floor was under maintenance, yet there were guests staying on that floor when we arrived. Additionally, we found roaches underneath the glass of the coffee table. Aside from these issues, we still enjoyed our stay and appreciated the location.
Overall, it was a nice and safe place to stay. The room was clean, and the beach right in front was a great bonus. We did notice a few discrepancies during our stay. We also requested a top-floor room but were told the floor was under maintenance, yet there were guests staying on that floor when we arrived. Loved the location, very convenient to north and south Kauai. Laundry facilities were broken, we did not use the pool. Front desk person was not the friendliest, her daughter was more polite and accommodating. Loved the retro motel and vibe. The breakfast restaurant attached was amazing!

I will start with the view because it was 10/10. We stayed in the double queen ocean view. The ocean was right there - steps away, and was amazing to wake up to. Parking is easy, lots of food spots nearby. The room was clean but the staff can only do so much. The room itself was so run down with minimal efforts made to make it nice or to fix issues. This hotel sits on a public beach path and is not enclosed. We had our sliding door open about 2 inches so we could hear the ocean without chickens coming in. A man tried to enter the room. He looked under the influence and disoriented. I jumped and slammed the door shut and locked it. After that we had to keep the door closed and locked. There are many issues with the room upkeep - pictures attached. The tv is so old staff had to come and help me turn it on (she was really sweet and very helpful!). But the tv only stays on about 20 minutes before shutting off and you have to restart. There are sooo many wires in one surge protector no doubt causing a fire hazard. I think if you only care about the view, (you cannot swim in this beach) then it’s fine - although I think overpriced. If you do care for a nice room as well - I would consider other properties. Hotels.com did attempt to fix the issue, but they insisted on calling and complaining to staff while I was staying there. They also messed up what I told them and staff questioned me about things I did not stay. That did make it more awkward.
