Nice place lots of history in there. Must be a nightmare to keep running and I take my hat off to them for that. Food good, nice atmosphere, good facilities, the Spa is great. Rooms just a bit chintzy for me,

Friendly staff, lovely breakfast and evening meals. We used it as a base for our walking holiday. The pool steam room and hot tub were a very nice thought to come back too.

The Metropole is a reminder of the glory days of Llandrindod, a big Victorian hotel that has changed little over the years. The food is generally good and plentiful and the service is very good. The spa is worth a visit, the facilities are very good, especially the pool area. The hotel is starting to look a little shabby again, but is clean and tidy. We have been staying here for years and will come back again.

Jacuzzi nice and hot, swimming pool large and clean. I visited this hotel with my IAM motorcycle club 2 weeks ago and liked it so much I came back to show my wife. Llandrindod Wells is perfectly placed to explore the beauty of Wales and we both enjoyed the National Cycle Museum which is just down the road.

We were visiting family in Llandrindod Wells and this seemed one of the few hotels open there now. It's a massive place in need of tlc. Not sure if the owners will ever be able to get it back to its former Victorian splendour. The pool and spa area are a good extra. Not really sure it's a 4* hotel any more. Food in a la carte is fine. Breakfast a buffet and plenty of choice. Let's hope if it's done up at some point they retain the fab original features - stair banisters and wonderful windows in the breakfast/dining room.

Pretty good overall, issue was there is building works which spoilt the whole reason for staying. Would not have booked if we knew about the works, perhaps some interaction with hotels.com wouldn’t go a miss

We enjoyed a lovely time at the Metropole hotel in Llandrindod Wells. Our room was quiet, clean and spacious. Staff were helpful and friendly. We had a swim in the Spa pool which was a wonderful experience. We ate in the Brasserie and enjoyed delicious food and service. Breakfast was also delicious and had a good selection of hot and cold food. I would definitely recommend a stay.

Fabulous location. Quirky large Victorian hotel. Very busy when we stayed the 1 night due to local Royal Welsh Show but staff were very professional. Room was huge if a bit musty from old water damage in ceiling and wall corner. Bathroom enormous and spotless. Sadly no hot water to the walk in shower but bath was fine. Reception staff very apologetic and noted room for immediate attention. Will stay again at this hotel because it made me smile. No corporate chain blandness as still in family ownership. Would be great for a murder mystery

Spa was nice and massage excellent but the roof of the pool is covered in green algae, not very nice, needs a good clean. Food excellent. Bathroom looks like its had a recent makeover and is lovely. Shame the room and rest of the hotel decor is very tired. Not really what you would expect when paying 180 quid for a superior room.

First the good. The staff were very friendly professional and helpful. They really looked after us well. The food was also excellent. However the whole hotel was grubby and tired. The sofas in the lounge area were dusty and i could not sit on them as i have a feather and dust allergy and if i say for more than a couple of minutes it woulds start up. The shower in the room was awful. You would be better standing under watering can no pressure at all and volume of water pathetic. Again the room was dusty and grubby with old furniture but the feather items had been removed so it was fine for me. All in all i would have to say it wasn't worth the cost and we wouldn't return sadly. This is a shame as the staff and the food were excellent. Whoever owns the hotel could do with updating and cleaning the place.

This hotel is old and tired and cold and in need of massive investment to bring it remotely up to par. Dusty tables in restaurant, dirty juice glasses at breakfast, unhappy staff and a really unacceptable pungunt body odour issue with a dinner waiter. This was most off putting and was brought to the attention of the restaurant manageress. She prevented him serving us further but he continued to serve everyone else. A tricky issue to address but totally unacceptable not to. On the positive side our room was clean and the service there was very good. The maid even folded our pyjamas bless her.

Dirty carpet in bedroom. Very strange wallpaper. Family room sited at front of building beside the main road. Room therefore too bright from street lights and too noisy from passing cars and people. Our room was £170 per night inc breakfast. We were on the 2nd floor and were told that there was a lift, unfortunately we were on floor 1&1/2 and had to go down a number of stairs with luggage.The room photo showed a pleasant room with bedside cabinets etc - the reality was a room that was so small there was no room for bedside tables only a shelf running behind the bed to put spectacles,etc on ( not very accessible or secure). Moving on to the bathroom with 1 hand towel, 1 bath towel and 1/8 roll of toilet paper and a light that was on a timer - if you wanted more time you had to open the bathroom door again! Not very user friendly. The heating could be changed but no air conditioning or a fan (not sure if there was room for a fan) and as the room faced a busy road we could not open the window to let in some cool air to a very hot room. I think it was a single room for 2!The breakfast was totally self service inc tea, powdered juice and burnt toast! The cooked breakfast was mainly cold and not tasty. We spent quite a while looking for the juice and coffee machines tucked away out of sight. The waitresses did a super job of clearing away dirty plates but could have done a better job of bringing fresh tea (in a pot not out of a vending machine), juice (not powdered water) and toast that was either anaemic or burnt (we actually saw toast on fire coming out of the machine!). This hotel is overpriced, over hyped, not 4 star (based on the room not the spa) and bad value for money.

Very old property, rooms need a refresh. Multiple customers talking/complaining about their rooms in the bar whilst queing and lack of accessibility for elderly guests. Our room was very noisy, loud doors, loud fan from bathroom that is on a timer, hearing same loud fans from all neighbouring rooms. It was acceptable enough (as young people) for one night but very very over priced, would not revisit or personally recommend.

Lovely staff, clean rooms and excellent breakfast. Stayed to attend a wedding function which was fantastic. However, rooms felt v tired for the amount we paid . Internet connection was poor on the 2nd floor as it didnt reach that far. Air conditioning controls weren't even connected and toilet took a few pumps before it flushed.

Room was ok, but room thermostat wasn’t working so no heating and bathroom was freezing cold in morning. Tap handle kept falling off and toilet lid wasn’t fixed down properly. The noise from coming from upstairs pipe work was very loud and creaking floor boards was also very noisy. Over priced considering these factors. Good buffet breakfast in morning. Only thing was my sons mattress was so uncomfortable you could feel all the springs, luckily I only had I child in the family room so used the duvet of the other bunk to make it a little more comfortable! Adults bed were fine tho

Very happy with our night at the hotel. Beautiful spacious room with lovely view of the park. Very quiet and peaceful. Clean with everything we needed. Had meal in bar with was excellent. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend and visit again.

This is a very tired hotel. We asked to move rooms which they upgraded us but the room they moved us too did not have toilet facilities working and they almost were blaming us for complaining We moved to another room and the door key did not work and again assumed that it was us, the receptionist came with us and we were right it didn’t work. For being a sweet in their top room, the carpet is very stained wallpaper stained not a pleasant stay here at all. The bathroom was nice. I could take 100 pictures of this room, but I’m just taking a few to show you.

We asked to move rooms which they upgraded us but the room they moved us too did not have toilet facilities working and they almost were blaming us for complaining We moved to another room and the door key did not work and again assumed that it was us, the receptionist came with us and we were right it didn’t work. We had a classic double room. Bed was comfortable, but pillows were awful - both hard and lumpy. Certainly not conducive to a good night's sleep. Bathroom was very small with 1 little shelf for toiletries not big enough for 1 let alone 2.

A very nice hotel & all the staff were very polite & helpful. Food was excellent with lots of choice & catered well for gluten & dairy free. Downside was because of weather conditions another night was needed & the inhouse price charged was way in excess of what it was being advertised for on the Metropole website. Not happy to discover we paid over £50 more for additional night.

First the good. The staff were very friendly professional and helpful. They really looked after us well. The food was also excellent. However the whole hotel was grubby and tired. The sofas in the lounge area were dusty and i could not sit on them as i have a feather and dust allergy and if i say for more than a couple of minutes it woulds start up. The shower in the room was awful. You would be better standing under watering can no pressure at all and volume of water pathetic. Again the room was dusty and grubby with old furniture but the feather items had been removed so it was fine for me. All in all i would have to say it wasn't worth the cost and we wouldn't return sadly. This is a shame as the staff and the food were excellent. Whoever owns the hotel could do with updating and cleaning the place.

This hotel is old and tired and cold and in need of massive investment to bring it remotely up to par. Dusty tables in restaurant, dirty juice glasses at breakfast, unhappy staff and a really unacceptable pungunt body odour issue with a dinner waiter. This was most off putting and was brought to the attention of the restaurant manageress. She prevented him serving us further but he continued to serve everyone else. A tricky issue to address but totally unacceptable not to. On the positive side our room was clean and the service there was very good. The maid even folded our pyjamas bless her.

whether its ringing up to book or arriving at the hotel there is always a welcome from the team who deal with you. Natalie, Sophie or any of the receptionists greet you well and if you choose to dine then Julian, Nicoletta and Viktoria in the restaurant will look after you. If you want a good room then any of the Superior Rooms are good but why not treat yourself to a Luxury room for a few pounds more. Our dog always gets a warm welcome from the team too.

An historic building. Large hotel which is is pretty well maintained. Staff were all great and really pleasant. Very surprised how good the food was. We had 3 course menu in what was a busy restaurant. Food arrived quickly and was excellent. Room was large with a comfortable bed. Overall an excellent weekend and yes I would go back.

We really really enjoyed our stay at the Metropole. Our two young daughters absolutely loved the pool and made the most of it by going three times in less than 24 hours! It's a huge old place, hard to imagine someone has recently taken it over from the family who had owned it for years, as it needs quite a bit of TLC, but we were happy. On the downside, we had to wait quite a while to check in as the reception was deserted when we arrived, the mattresses on the kids' bunkbeds were very uncomfortable with springs poking through - even our 7 year old noticed this. Plenty of upsides though, the free breakfast was welcomed by us all and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Check in was efficient and friendly. We had an issue with the room, (not the hotels fault but ours due to a medical need), the receptionist on duty, Sophie, was an absolute star. She was exceptionally busy due to other guest check ins, but took the time to find us a suitable room. She was absolutely brilliant with all the queries from different guests. Calm, professional and friendly, an absolute asset to the company. Our room was warm, clean and comfortable. Had breakfast, plentiful supply of hot food, with the added advantage of gluten free food. We have stayed here before and would happily return,

Fabulous location. Quirky large Victorian hotel. Very busy when we stayed the 1 night due to local Royal Welsh Show but staff were very professional. Room was huge if a bit musty from old water damage in ceiling and wall corner. Bathroom enormous and spotless. Sadly no hot water to the walk in shower but bath was fine. Reception staff very apologetic and noted room for immediate attention. Will stay again at this hotel because it made me smile. No corporate chain blandness as still in family ownership. Would be great for a murder mystery

Jacuzzi nice and hot, swimming pool large and clean. I visited this hotel with my IAM motorcycle club 2 weeks ago and liked it so much I came back to show my wife. Llandrindod Wells is perfectly placed to explore the beauty of Wales and we both enjoyed the National Cycle Museum which is just down the road.

Very happy with our night at the hotel. Beautiful spacious room with lovely view of the park. Very quiet and peaceful. Clean with everything we needed. Had meal in bar with was excellent. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend and visit again.

Beautiful historic hotel. Plenty of parking available. Close to amenities. Common areas are spacious yet inviting. Hotel rooms are lovely. My bathroom was en-suite but down some stairs which I found very unique. I ate in the brasserie which was good. I would definitely come back.

In its day - this was probably a grand hotel and still has a sense of grandeur about it but it is definitely looking a little tired and out of date in places now. Having said that the rooms were a very good size, the swimming pool and gym were great and the service was good.

Lovely Victorian hotel in great location with a steep history. Unfortunately the hotel seems to be in a time warp and not in touch with modern day competition with regards to room quality tv, bed, furnishings. The dining options were extremely close windowed and not flexible. Breakfast was really poor quality with limited choice with many expected food items not bailable or offered. It seemed to be more in line with a seaside bed and breakfast offering rather than what appeared to be a 4 star hotel. We don't regret staying at The Metropole. Just that we were a little disappointed

The portions in the restaurant have gone much smaller but the prices have gone up we had ham hock as starter which at nearly £8 was very steep for the size of portion 1/2 a tomato and a few leaves does not constitute a side salad !

We were visiting family in Llandrindod Wells and this seemed one of the few hotels open there now. It's a massive place in need of tlc. Not sure if the owners will ever be able to get it back to its former Victorian splendour. The pool and spa area are a good extra. Not really sure it's a 4* hotel any more. Food in a la carte is fine. Breakfast a buffet and plenty of choice. Let's hope if it's done up at some point they retain the fab original features - stair banisters and wonderful windows in the breakfast/dining room.

Hotel was as we expected, leisure facilities great, and room dated but super. The biggest let down was the price and the cost of the drinks. A glass of wine and a half of beer, £25 ! The food was ok but soup, sticky toffee pudding and a main course of a small piece of salmon, fries and salad for £38 ! Rather expensive. Staff were pleasant and helpful.

Lovely old hotel, clean quiet and spacious. Unusually we struggled to spend money, the kitchen would not serve food in the bar area, because it would cause "delays" in the kitchen. We eventually got some olives and some nice charcuterie but no bread because the fridge was locked...you don\'t keep bread in the fridge and the olives and salami were from the fridge. A real disappointment to be treated like fools... Marred what would have been a really good review.

Located centrally in the town with excellent parking. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Was nice to sit outside under the beautiful wisteria and enjoy a drink in the evening sun. Brasserie food was excellent. Breakfast was really nice also. A great base for exploring.

We waren laat met boeken (2 weken voor de overnachting), maar betaalden een hoge prijs voor een middelmatige "Superior" kamer zonder airco. De ramen konden ook maar beperkt open wat bij 29-30 graden niet geweldig is. Het ontbijt en diner was prima en de bediening was vriendelijk, maar er is weinig plaats om bij mooi weer buiten op een terras te zitten. En het terras aan de voorzijde is direct aan de drukke weg gelegen. Het terras achter was beter, maar dan zit je tegen een vervallen hotel te kijken, waar de verf spontaan van de kozijnen afspringt. Kortom, de reviews die we gelezen hadden werden 100% bevestigd.
