Residence Inn by Marriott Homewood Mountain Brook

This hotel was a disappointment. We chose it for the location and while the location was as we expected we could only exit the hotel by going one direction on highway 280 so we often had to exit the highway and go under it to get going the right direction. My main gripe with the service was housekeeping or lack thereof. We were told that housekeeping only came every three days but if we needed towels or garbage taken out to ask at the desk. That seemed kind of cheap but what are you going to do at this point. On our third day (of a four day stay) we were supposed to get housekeeping. After being out most of the day and returning after 2pm we had had no housekeeping. When we asked at the desk first we were told we wouldn't get housekeeping until the next day (our checkout day) and then when she checked she said that we would. I asked her if we could go ahead and have our room cleaned in the next hour or so while we went to the pool. Her response stunned me as she said that they went in order by the rooms starting at one end of the hall and wouldn't go out of order. So if you like to have your room cleaned and to get fresh towels don't stay here. The hotel seems new but there were things that weren't well thought out, like the location of the pool. By afternoon it was entirely in shade. The shower was a bit strange and the bathroom fixtures were cheap. Breakfast was good but the orange juice machine was broken. For the money in Birmingham, I wouldn't stay here again.

We arrived just before midnight. The staff was excellent. This was the smoothest check in we have ever experienced.
