The historic building was beautiful and quaint. Very New England. Room was spacious, and in good shape. It was clean and had 4 windows with much natural light. The bathroom was small and shower was tight. The hot water and water pressure was great until mid shower when it scalded me. The bathroom blinds did not close and the window looked into other rooms. So that was awkward. The bathroom was not exceptionally clean. The room did not have a mini fridge or a microwave. The lights flickered which gave an old world charm. The mattress was well worn out and needed to be replaced a long time ago. Tv worked well with a wide selection of channels. Absolutely no noise in the room from outside or other rooms. Very quiet. The gardens and back patio area was stunning, especially at night!

Older hotel located in historic district of Exeter. Room was quiet with a comfortable king mattress. Staff was very nice and helpful. We had an excellent dinner at the on-premises restaurant called Epoch. We started with a cocktail at the bar and enjoyed the atmosphere and the bartender, so we elected to eat at the bar.

This inn had so much charm. It is nestled in a beautiful part of Exeter. It's like taking a step back in time in a good way. The bar was nice to unwind and have a drink at the end of a long day. We didn't try the restaurant, but look forwarding to returning in the future.

Hotel and room were gorgeous and comfortable with plenty of parking. Great location for central Exeter, which is a very nice place. Also convenient for visiting Portsmouth. Breakfast was good. Restaurant was very good too.

The hotel is very nice and historic. Only stayed for one night and the restaurant and bar were closed so we can’t soak on that but the hotel was lovely and very centrally located in town.

Beautiful façade. Had a stay with a baby and a kid - not the best choice of hotel for staying with babies. There are no ramps for a stroller or luggage. However there is a lift. The rooms are a bit narrow and on a smaller size (we stayed at a King Standard). Which makes sense as the building is old and it has its beautiful ambiance. Just wouldn’t recommend it for a stay with kids. Good for couples and adults. The staff at checking in were really nice and helpful. Provided us with a baby travel system and helped to squeeze into the room with all the baggage :D The bed was a bit squeaky and I could hear what I think was a train passing nearby till late evening and early in the morning (I’m a sensible sleeper - I’m easily awaken by any noise). The continental breakfast was sufficient. The territory and building are really elegant. Location is good.

Difficult for people with limited mobility. The paver pathway from the back was too rough to roll our suitcases on, so we had to park the car in front of the hotel and carry them up 7 steps to get into the lobby.

Location was the only positive. When we arrived there was noone at the front desk, despite our calling to say we were arriving late (at midnight). The whole hotel is very dingy, chipping paint, dirty walls and carpet, poor lighting. We put our bags on the floor in front of the air conditioner and it leaked and drenched all of our belongings and a computer overnight. Will not stay there again until it has been renovated.

The photos of The Exeter Inn and the ratings were not as we found the actual location and our room. The carpet was dirty as well as bathroom floor and molding. We also found that we could have paid much less if we had worked directly with the Inn.

I like the location of this hotel. It's under ten minutes walk to Phillips Exeter Academy. However, staying here for a second time, reveals to me that no one paid attention to whether house keeping really cleans the rooms. The face sink and showers has build up that make you uncomfortable to use them both. And the dressers, bed head and pictures on the wall has lot of dust. An organized room is not a cleanroom.

Spent Labor Day weekend at the Exeter Inn. The staff is lovely. The interior is beautiful. I loved the central staircase. Our room was large, comfortable and immaculate. The location is perfect. You can easily walk to town. We had a wonderful stay. Highly recommended

The room was great and the staff were friendly and welcoming. One very minor quibble, the light switch to the huge bathroom was not located just inside the door as you would expect. It was 3-4 steps in by the sink. So we kept the light on all night unfortunately to avoid stumbling around in the dark.

Cons: deferred maintenance, chipping paint, courtesy coffee urn was empty at 8:30 on Sunday and never refilled. Restaurant and bar are sparse, not interesting enough to try them. Nice shower, no tub. "free" continental breakfast unavailable on weekends. Were it not for walking proximity to the shops and academy, it might be a hard sell. Our first trip to the area, will look elsewhere next time.

We stayed overnight on our way to Maine. This hotel is old, but well maintained and pretty clean. We were disappointed in the size of the room..very small and the bathroom was very, very small with no place to put or hang anything. Other than that, sufficient for an over night stay.

It's a lovely old building from the outside. Road and train noises, plus room heater which was noisy whenever it kicked in--kept waking us up. Dining was less than appealing. Frozen fish fillets with the fish and chips dinner. Half chicken was all dark meat (leg and thigh). No tablecloth (although cloth napkins) Breakfast was mediocre. Milk was sour. Toaster didn't heat up for bagels. We waited 10 minutes for it and gave up.

The staff were always very friendly and helpful, They upgraded us at no extra cost and the complimentary breakfast was good. It was also nice being able to open a window for fresh air, unlike other hotels where the windows are sealed

Beautiful historic exterior, but very disappointing interior rooms and spaces….. in desperate need of renovation / redocrating. Linens not very soft (not quality of 4 star hotel) and no robes in the room. It was clean, but very looking outdated rooms. Also no phones in the rooms…. so tried using cell to call for extra towels about 8 pm and no one answered all evening.

After a tiring night-flight from England we arrived at 5am at the Exeter Inn, where the night manager Christopher gave us a very warm welcome. He could not have been more helpful and we truly enjoyed our stay at the Exeter Inn, mainly due to Christopher's hospitality.

Location was the only positive. When we arrived there was noone at the front desk, despite our calling to say we were arriving late (at midnight). The whole hotel is very dingy, chipping paint, dirty walls and carpet, poor lighting. We put our bags on the floor in front of the air conditioner and it leaked and drenched all of our belongings and a computer overnight. Will not stay there again until it has been renovated.

Hotel in a great location, just blocks from Philips Exeter Academy, away from downtown Exeter. Plenty of parking. My room very comfortable and clean. Bathroom was small but for one person it was fine. The Inn let me check in early even though I had not indicated this.

A lovely location, so close to downtown, but still quiet. The building has all the amenities that we were looking for, but it had the character that older properties have, that are so often lacking in chain hotels.

The breakfast offering was great. Room was nice and beautiful grounds. We arrive late at. Night. We didn’t realize we were on the corner of the busiest street in town.!85 was loud and busy all night and morning!

The hotel is very nice and historic. Only stayed for one night and the restaurant and bar were closed so we can’t soak on that but the hotel was lovely and very centrally located in town.

Pros: Room was clean, bed comfortable, WIFI easily connected. Inn is walking distance to shops and restaurants. Cons: deferred maintenance, chipping paint, courtesy coffee urn was empty at 8:30 on Sunday and never refilled. Restaurant and bar are sparse, not interesting enough to try them. Nice shower, no tub. "free" continental breakfast unavailable on weekends. Were it not for walking proximity to the shops and academy, it might be a hard sell. Our first trip to the area, will look elsewhere next time.

The problem was the breakfast - they “ran” out of spoons (no plastic or silver utensils) in the inn thus we could not have a bowl of cereal nor any yogurt. In addition - there were no remaining bagels. Don’t advertise a complimentary breakfast when that is not the case. No excuse for running short!

It's a lovely old building from the outside. Road and train noises, plus room heater which was noisy whenever it kicked in--kept waking us up. Dining was less than appealing. Frozen fish fillets with the fish and chips dinner. Half chicken was all dark meat (leg and thigh). No tablecloth (although cloth napkins) Breakfast was mediocre. Milk was sour. Toaster didn't heat up for bagels. We waited 10 minutes for it and gave up.

Older hotel located in historic district of Exeter. Room was quiet with a comfortable king mattress. Staff was very nice and helpful. We had an excellent dinner at the on-premises restaurant called Epoch. We started with a cocktail at the bar and enjoyed the atmosphere and the bartender, so we elected to eat at the bar.

Hotel and room were gorgeous and comfortable with plenty of parking. Great location for central Exeter, which is a very nice place. Also convenient for visiting Portsmouth. Breakfast was good. Restaurant was very good too.

The Exeter Inn is my "go to" when I'm heading to the NH beaches. It is a quiet and unassuming place that is close to everything yet feels remote. The staff is kind and extremely helpful and the value is excellent. I believe they are undergoing a renovation that will help them make it even more pleasant for guests. Highly recommend!

Basic breakfast, helpful staff, nice old property, very clean. The location is great--just a short walk into town. Our room was musty due to old, moldy AC. We had to turn it off.

The property exceeded my expectations. Interesting, historic building (though about to under go a big renovation) in a lovely, lively, little town. Rooms were clean, simply but nicely furnished, and comfortable. Bathroom was up to date and clean. Staff were super helpful. Overall very good value.

The experience beings, of all places, in the clean, spacious parking lot in back. From there, a pleasant walk through the green space in back to the hotel was pleasant. Once inside, the woman at the desk was welcoming and generous, offering information about the hotel, the area and either a free glass of Champagne or sparking water. The room was well appointed. The free continental breakfast was ample and inviting. Too much to choose from, but one can always go for seconds. Overall, the property is a must if you are in the area.
