Pele’s Secret Garden should be renamed Pele’s Secret Heavenly Garden! We have stayed at many rentals, and I must admit this is my favorite. From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed. From the beautiful flowers on the table, the fresh fruit, the personalized note on the home binder, the little Christmas tree in the den, and the fresh Christmas Wreath over the inside door. So many little things that say, “you are welcome here. Enjoy your time.” As an artist and quilter, I loved all the little touches that made this house a home. The locally created art and quilts throughout this home are absolutely beautiful. The wrap-around porch is truly a little of heaven on earth. Mornings and evenings were my favorite time to sit and enjoy all the surrounding lush forest and the songs of the birds (and nap in the hammock when I could 😉). On the practical side, this house had everything! Nicely stocked pantry and refrigerator with condiments, great coffee, all cooking utensils, grill, and bathrooms stocked with plenty of towels and supplies. Super comfy beds. As a person with sensitive skin, I was impressed by and appreciated that the laundry detergent is dye and scent-free, so the sheets didn’t make me itch and were super luxurious and soft. Peggy was the MOST gracious host. We could contact her about anything, and she would get back to us almost immediately. We left feeling like we had made a new friend. 😊 We traveled over 1000 miles and saw most of the Big Island on our visit, and Pele’s Secret Garden was the perfect home base!! We can’t wait to return! ❤

Wonderful place! So serene and private. Beautiful wrap around deck with slider access from every room and a 2 person hammock. Spacious bedrooms and bathrooms. Nice living space with a well stocked full kitchen. Do your grocery shopping in Hilo for your best options.

3 of us stayed at "Pele's Secret Garden" for 3 nights. The home is spacious, beautifully decorated and well equipped. The house is set in a very private rain forest enclosed garden and has a great wrap around lanai. It is minutes away from the town of Volcano and the National Park. The kitchen is well equipped. The home has plenty of thoughtful touches and some beautiful artwork. The queen bed was particularly comfortable. This will be our preferred VRBO for future visits.

We enjoyed our stay a lot. It is literally in the middle of the forest. Very close to the volcano National park. The house itself is gorgeous and the owner thought of everything. The wrap around porch with the hammock was the icing on the cake.

We had the most wonderful stay at this property! The entire space is beautifully done, with a lot of attention to detail, and unique and tasteful touches. It is the perfect place to stay if you are visiting Hilo and Volcanoes National Park. It is nestled into a corner of the rainforests surrounding VNP, with a wrap around balcony that truly immerses you in nature and tranquility. The kitchen has every appliance and cooking accessory that you could possibly need, all in great condition. The linen closet was well stocked with towels, extra bedsheets and blankets. And the beds were so comfortable! Peggy is very responsive and proactive. She made us feel very welcome with seasonal Hawaiian fruit - some of the best you'll ever taste!

We stayed in this house for 2 nights in early June as we wanted to be close to Volcanos National Park. It is about a five minute drive to the entrance of the park. Its location is in a neighborhood in Volcano Village but you would not know it as the house sits back off a lightly traveled street and it was incredibly quite and serene. It was nice during the day and cool, almost cold at night. The wrap around porch was comfortable and perfect for our first 2 nights on the Big Island. It was easy to relax. The host, Peggy, was easy to communicate with and she made sure to reach out to make sure we got checked in OK. The fresh fruit was a very nice touch and introduced us to apple bananas, which are amazing! I would not hesitate to stay at this house again.

The home was easy to find but felt secluded in the rainforest. Very convenient to stores, restaurants, and Volcanoes Park. Peggy was a great host with coffee provided, plenty of kitchenwares, towels, and blankets. Very thoughtful with umbrellas, flashlights, and even a basket full of warm socks by the door. I would definitely stay here again!

The check in instructions were clear and helpful, especially since we had no internet as we got close to the property. The property itself was clean and amazing relaxing. Pele’s Garden is beautifully furnished and decorated, comfortable, quiet and peaceful. The kitchen is fully stocked with assorted pantry items, coffee beans & grinder, coffee maker and french press. Peggy also provided eggs, butter, and half & half. Although the property is less than a mile from hwy 11, it is VERY dark and lushly vegetated. I loved that there were flashlights. There was even a basket of chunky foot warming stocks. The bathroom showers had professional shampoo, conditioner and body wash dispensers. The towels were luxurious. The beds were sooo comfortable. We stayed 3 nights. We hope to stay at Pele’s Garden again!

This was our first time staying at Pele’s Secret Garden. The property’s interior and exterior and the location were all five star. Property was extremely well kept, furnishings up to date. Peggy was timely and on point with her communications. We had everything we needed to make this an extremely enjoyable stay. We definitely plan to stay again.

We loved staying here! It was clean, quiet and peaceful. It felt like an oasis. We loved the sounds of all the tropical birds in the surrounding forest. It was also VERY convenient to the Volcano National Park. Peggy was a fantastic host and the communications with her were great. We would stay there again if we come back!!

This is one of the best, unique and wonderful places we have ever stayed!! The home and surroundings are beautiful inside and out. The home is super clean, well stocked with everything you could possibly want or need and then some - including fresh fruit and coffee beans!! The beds, linens and furnishings are very comfortable. The outside areas have plenty of seating areas to enjoy the peace and tranquillity. Peggy was an excellent host!! She provided great information and was always available if we needed anything. We would definitely love to stay here again and would highly recommend it to anyone planning on staying in the area. Thanks again!! K&P

We absolutely loved this house. It was the cleanest vacation rental we have ever stayed in. Communication with the owner was quick and clear. The house is set back on the property so it is very secluded and gorgeous. If we ever won the lottery we would try to buy this home in a heartbeat. We hope to stay here again in the future!

The house is clean and comfortable. Location to Volcano Nat Park excellent. Check in and communication was very good. We did have a little difficulty early on with getting hot water. Not a big deal once we figured it out. Would recommend!

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed staying at Pele's Secret Garden. The house was clean and had everything we needed for our three night stay. The setting is very peaceful and we loved the beautiful garden. It was easy to get to Volcanoes National Park and nearby restaurants. We would definitely stay again.

Beautiful home! Wall to wall windows. Wrap around porch. Surrounded by plants and trees. Happy birds signing day and night. Every little corner of this home has some type of surprise - metal figurines, decor, paintings on the wall, etc. vaulted ceilings, bamboo style fans. The host provided fresh fruit, coffee, beverages, pretty much everything you would need. Thank you Peggy!

Peggy's property was simply wonderful. She was an amazing host. The home was very secluded and comfortable. Peggy was very responsive and helpful. She let us know that Kilauea was active and we were able to witness the 500 ft lava fountain!

My husband and I absolutely LOVED our stay at Pele’s Secret Garden. We didn’t want to leave. The views from EVERY room are stunning; lush, green, and tropical. The only sound you’ll hear are the faint voices of the tiny birds who visit in the morning. We truly felt like we were in our own world…no traffic noise or even the site of neighbors. If you want to get lost in your own paradise, come and stay here and warm your soul by the exquisitely designed fireplace. Thank you Peggy for your wonderful hospitality and the delicious local fruits.

This was our first time staying at Pele’s Secret Garden. The property’s interior and exterior and the location were all five star. Property was extremely well kept, furnishings up to date. Peggy was timely and on point with her communications. We had everything we needed to make this an extremely enjoyable stay. We definitely plan to stay again.

We loved staying here! It was clean, quiet and peaceful. It felt like an oasis. We loved the sounds of all the tropical birds in the surrounding forest. It was also VERY convenient to the Volcano National Park. Peggy was a fantastic host and the communications with her were great. We would stay there again if we come back!!

The house was in te prefect location to explore Hilo, South Point, Water Falls, Zip Ling and Volcano National. Everything was is prefect working condition, clean, well stocks with all the basics and more, coffee, eggs, even a bottle of wine and a few beers too. Peggy the Host always answered our questions within minutes. This is an awesome place to stay ! We will stay there again. Fred

The home was easy to find but felt secluded in the rainforest. Very convenient to stores, restaurants, and Volcanoes Park. Peggy was a great host with coffee provided, plenty of kitchenwares, towels, and blankets. Very thoughtful with umbrellas, flashlights, and even a basket full of warm socks by the door. I would definitely stay here again!

This place was perfect for us. The location was ideal - easily accessible but quiet and private. The house was comfortable and had everything we needed plus some lovely and thoughtful extras. The check in instructions were clear and helpful, especially since we had no internet as we got close to the property. The property itself was clean and amazing relaxing. It also contained one of the best stocked kitchens we've seen. This is a A rental - thank you Peggy for letting stay in your home.

The most magical place! The garden and the house and the Tranquility are all you need in this part of the world. Host was absolutely incredible, super responsive, and just a delight to work with. If you’re looking at this and the dates match, just push play!

This location is a bit out of the way for touristy stuff as it’s 40 mins from Hilo and 2 hours from Kona. The reason I selected this spot is that it is only 15 mins from Volcanos National Park which was my goal for this trip. It’s a beautiful home 2 bed 2 bath. Great communication with the property owner. Comfy clean and has everything you could need. I recommend you check the fridge before you buy grocery as there’s some of the essentials already there. We came in January and it was a bit cold a night lows in the 40s Fahrenheit. Also a reminder that the island is a tropical wet location so if you have mold allergies well that’s the island…

Very comfortable place with everything you need, just like at your own home. We really enjoyed the privacy and waking up to singing birds in the surrounding forest. We were lucky to experiece an eruption episode at the kilauea caldera and being only 5 mins away made visiting it day and night very easy.

We stayed in this house for 2 nights in early June as we wanted to be close to Volcanos National Park. It is about a five minute drive to the entrance of the park. Its location is in a neighborhood in Volcano Village but you would not know it as the house sits back off a lightly traveled street and it was incredibly quite and serene. It was nice during the day and cool, almost cold at night. The wrap around porch was comfortable and perfect for our first 2 nights on the Big Island. It was easy to relax. The host, Peggy, was easy to communicate with and she made sure to reach out to make sure we got checked in OK. The fresh fruit was a very nice touch and introduced us to apple bananas, which are amazing! I would not hesitate to stay at this house again.

This is one of the most peaceful places that we have ever stayed in. We sat on the covered porch, listening to the rain filter through the leaves. It was absolutely silent at night, even when we had the screen doors open to the night.Peggy was wonderful and sharp to communicate with. Thank you for sharing your lovely home.One note: we did not see any grocery stores. There are a couple nearby general stores with some food. Bring your food from Hilo which has every store possible

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed staying at Pele's Secret Garden. The house was clean and had everything we needed for our three night stay. The setting is very peaceful and we loved the beautiful garden. It was easy to get to Volcanoes National Park and nearby restaurants. We would definitely stay again.

Peggy has gone above and beyond to make things comfortable and easy at her home. From her consistent communication before and during our stay, to the amount of kitchen products (oil, sugar, salt pepper, spices) to the amount of towels, she literally has thought of everything. For the first time ever staying in a rental, we didn’t need all of the items we brought for our stay, we just needed groceries. Her rental feels like home and we couldn’t have been more happy or comfortable. Our kids say they miss the house like it’s a family member. We all really connected with the home and the beauty of the entire property it was so peaceful and quiet, with the only sounds outside coming from the birds and pleasant sound of occasional rain. If you stay, please say hi to the North Cardinal we named “Big Red” that visited the bird feeder all through out the day.

Beautiful home! Wall to wall windows. Wrap around porch. Surrounded by plants and trees. Happy birds signing day and night. Every little corner of this home has some type of surprise - metal figurines, decor, paintings on the wall, etc. vaulted ceilings, bamboo style fans. The host provided fresh fruit, coffee, beverages, pretty much everything you would need. Thank you Peggy!

We had the most wonderful stay at this property! The entire space is beautifully done, with a lot of attention to detail, and unique and tasteful touches. It is the perfect place to stay if you are visiting Hilo and Volcanoes National Park. It is nestled into a corner of the rainforests surrounding VNP, with a wrap around balcony that truly immerses you in nature and tranquility. The kitchen has every appliance and cooking accessory that you could possibly need, all in great condition. The linen closet was well stocked with towels, extra bedsheets and blankets. And the beds were so comfortable! Peggy is very responsive and proactive. She made us feel very welcome with seasonal Hawaiian fruit - some of the best you'll ever taste!

This was the exceptional award winning stay of all the places we stayed in during our two week visit to Kauai and the Big Island including resorts and VRBOs. Peggy, our host, is clearly felt in this lovely and well appointed home. This is not just a rental, but a home, beautifully constructed and furnished. Not that we do any less anywhere we stay, Peggy's home makes you want to care for it like it was your own. The cottage sits in what is essentially a rainforest like environment without the rain (I'm sure it gets rain because of the lushness, but not during our visit), and at dusk you are serenaded by tree frogs, which makes cocktails on the long deck a real treat. Peggy was always accessible for questions, and she is an exceptional host. Eggs were in the refrigerator, fruit on the counter, coffee beans with grinder were provided as well as sugar and coffee mate (I got my own half and half though). I highly recommend this cottage, only minutes from Volcano National Park.

This has been our best stay at a Vrbo. Peggy the host has thought of everything. We were welcomed with Fresh tropical flowers from the yard, a personalized welcome letter, a fully stocked kitchen with basics as well as complimentary local juices, fresh fruit, and coffee! The home is beautifully decorated and the bed was very comfortable. We have nothing bad to say about our stay. We would return in a heart beat!!

Pele’s Garden is beautifully furnished and decorated, comfortable, quiet and peaceful. The kitchen is fully stocked with assorted pantry items, coffee beans & grinder, coffee maker and french press. Peggy also provided eggs, butter, and half & half. Although the property is less than a mile from hwy 11, it is VERY dark and lushly vegetated. I loved that there were flashlights. There was even a basket of chunky foot warming stocks. The bathroom showers had professional shampoo, conditioner and body wash dispensers. The towels were luxurious. The beds were sooo comfortable. We stayed 3 nights. We hope to stay at Pele’s Garden again!

Fantastic setting and certainly offering the opportunity to be one with nature in the natural jewel of volcano. Host was great and the kitchen and baths were very well stocked. Fireplace was inoperative foreclosing a night around the fireplace. Do ensure you get the WiFi password and entry code in advance as once at the property the cellar coverage makes for a very slow if at all access via the app. Fresh tropical fruit was a very nice touch.The tropical birds will visit on the lanai to cap off the nature surroundings.
Fantastic setting and certainly offering the opportunity to be one with nature in the natural jewel of volcano. Host was great and the kitchen and baths were very well stocked. Fireplace was inoperative foreclosing a night around the fireplace. Do ensure you get the WiFi password and entry code in advance as once at the property the cellar coverage makes for a very slow if at all access via the app. Fresh tropical fruit was a very nice touch.The tropical birds will visit on the lanai to cap off the nature surroundings.

The description of the house is accurate. A clean and comfortable house in a peaceful setting. The kitchen is well equipped. In addition, there are restaurants conveniently located in Volcano. Easy and quick access to Volcanoes National Park.

This is a beautiful, comfortable home that blends seamlessly into the rainforest. The enormous windows provide an astonishing view of hapu'u ferns, anthuriums, 'ohi'a lehua, beach naupaka, and other tropical plants. We saw beautiful birds, including some colorful Kalij pheasants. The home is decorated with lovely artwork that celebrates the rainforest and volcano (and Pele!). The beds are comfortable. The host is very friendly and welcoming. It only takes a couple of minutes to drive to Volcanoes National Park. We hope to return one day! Bring a light rain jacket and warmer clothes for the park.
