The good: rooms were clean, plenty of parking, good view of the dam and sunrise, great blackout curtains, ac worked (though noisily), room had a mini fridge and microwave, coffee maker and a few pods. Very kid friendly place - we didn’t get try the pool because it was too cold for our liking but we saw several families out there for a bit. There’s a few really nice looking fire pits with chairs all around and a grill to use as well. The bad: our room was right next to a hallway door and all night long it was very loudly slamming shut from other guests, waking us up repeatedly. A slow close door is a simple fix that would’ve made our stay a solid 5 stars! Our bathroom fan didn’t work. Definitely not a huge issue but when staying in a small room with 4 people, it’s noticeable when its not there. There is no elevator and they had no ground floor rooms available, even for a disabled guest checking in before us. Check in was sloooooow. One person working for a 4pm check in is just not enough. Overall our stay was fairly pleasant and I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again for the price we paid.

I would not recommend staying here. The hotel attempted some updates and improvements - but it falls short The rooms are not inviting or warm - the views are terrible (see photo). The rooms and hallway are noisy. The A/C is very loud even on low (see video) and if you then it of so you can sleep then the room gets warm and you still can’t sleep. The room is poorly lit as well. The layout of the hotel with the stairs is very poorly designed. The hotel want even fully booked and they have me a room as far as away from everything as possible and it wasn’t so I could have the nice view. They don’t appear to like to answer their front desk phone, as it rings for a while until you get a person. The staff wasn’t rude, but they also were not friendly. The outdoor hallways/stairwells are very dirty and smelly. The ice machine did not work and the door to the room hallways woodland not fully close - therefore losing the security aspect of the inside doors along with the need for a key - anyone could have gotten in. Also the sink faucet only turned all the way off if you forced it. And unfortunately my phone and watch did not charge during the night because the outlets in the lamp did not work. This was very annoying mainly for my watch not getting charged (my phone I can easily charge in the car.) I would not recommend staying here nor would I stay here again. For the price I expected much better and was very disappointed.

The staff was friendly and the amenities the hotel provides are plentiful and appreciated. Warm and inviting lobby that seemed to be a place people enjoyed utilizing throughout the day. And even fresh baked chocolate chip cookies in the afternoons!

We had a nice room overlooking the dam. Parking was easy. When we entered the room, the air condition was on, making it nice and cool for sleep. Coffee was free in the morning before we took off for a 2-hour drive. The staff were friendly both in the morning and in the evening when we checked in. The lobby was comfortable and welcoming. The linens were good and the blinds were sun blocking for sleeping in.

Had a lot of luggage so glad to see luggage carts but no way to get down stairs to car. Then found out there is no evelators. Had to drive around back hike over uneven ground to get to our room.

The accommodations are comfortable and clean. Staff friendly and efficient! The only problem encountered was there’s no elevator anywhere on site. I have MS and hiking up and down the stairs was more of a physical challenge than I care to encounter again.

Room was very clean and comfortable. I had shampoo but no bathing soap. I made do, so it wasn't that hard to get by. The big issue I had was that I went to take a walk on the trail towards the water and stumbled onto a homeless tent. I ran back to the room and didn't feel safe enough to get out and stretch my legs. Yikes!!!

We were told that breakfast was available in the mornings, and we were also told that a Coffee place “Wasco” would also be available in the mornings. Neither were available when we came down at 7:30 am. I tried to ask, but nobody was available at the desk. When I return to my room, I messaged as a reply to a message that I received from the front desk asking for room service. I received a reply that they would be with me shortly. 10 minutes later, I received another reply, saying they would be with me shortly. To this day, I have not received a reply back. When I wanted to complain, it asked if I wanted to receive a call back, you can see in the picture that I sent asking for a callback, but never received one. The bathtub was dirty and so was the toilet. The best part about the room was the bed. The amount that I spent for two nights was way more than what I received.

Our room had ants in it. When I told the desk clerk about it at check out her response was oh well they're in a lot of the rooms this building and the whole town of Dallas is built on sand and everyone has ants in the Dalles. I worked as a maintenance engineer for 20 years for a 300 bed hospital. We contracted a pest control company that did routine spraying all around the outside of the building and when there was some kind of a problem inside of the building, we called them and they came out and took care of it right away. There's no excuse for ants in your building, except for?????

The main lobby has been upgraded nicely. The rooms however are done with cheap materials and it feels like it. Shower fan did not work, hair left in shower and drain. Overall the cleanliness was lacking. Also, no elevator.

The room above us was very noisy with kids. We ignored it but at night it was difficult especially since many rooms were vacant. Why were we placed like this? Our room's floor hadnt recently been cleaned. There was a film on it making your feet dirty. The shower was clean but def needs updating. Thank you for everything.

Noise is a problem. Initially I was given a suite on the ground floor but the sound of guests walking non-stop upstairs was too prominent. The staff was nice enough to move me to the second floor in the older wing that had a nicer view of the water. Unfortunately the walls are thin as well, we could hear the couple next door fighting (with some cussing) ‘til 9pm and every slamming of doors at nearby rooms. We left around 7:30am and found some guest did not clean up after their dog’s mess on the staircase. The price is okay but I think I’ll just pay a bit more next time.

The property was so noisy between the refrigerator firing up every 10 minutes, the in-room heater (even noisier than the refrigerator), freeway noise and some guy dropping a lid on what sounded like an industrial strength dumpster I got almost no sleep. It was a nightmare stay! It also looks like this facility was fairly recently renovated. I can’t understand why you would remove carpet from guest rooms as it provides sound damping properties for the people below you. The guest rooms are all luxury vinyl and you can hear every footstep.

Staff was great, friendly, informative. The Portage Grill inside the hotel was excellent. The hostess seated us promptly, the bartender was our waitress (sorry I did not get her name) but she was very attentive and the drinks were excellent. She made a very good Old Fashioned!! The food was excellent, but most of all the service was top notch, only to be topped by the view of the Columbia River/The Dalles Dam! Thank you everyone for a most enjoyable 2-day stay!

The lobby, restaurant, rooms, and area was beautiful, and it is somewhere we’d love to stay again! The only couple things I’d share is: 1. The tru cleanliness in the room. It looked great and saw how hard they work, but when we put our baby down to crawl, her hands, legs, and feet turned black. It for sure wasn’t moped even close to recently. 2. When I checked out and and waited for someone to show up (being 4am, I get that), I asked for a laundry bag and was told no. Then I asked for a garbage bag (for wet laundry from pool), he looked, then said “couldn’t find one and would have to walk to the hall closet. So I waited to hear and after staring said “so you can check?” He replied “yeah, but it will be a bit”. I was shocked and said I’ll just find something. Was kind of disappointed in the lack of help, so washed the bag from the dinner the night before to hold our things.
The lobby, restaurant, rooms, and area was beautiful, and it is somewhere we’d love to stay again! The only couple things I’d share is: 1. The tru cleanliness in the room. It looked great and saw how hard they work, but when we put our baby down to crawl, her hands, legs, and feet turned black. It for sure wasn’t moped even close to recently. 2. When I checked out and and waited for someone to show up (being 4am, I get that), I asked for a laundry bag and was told no. Then I asked for a garbage bag (for wet laundry from pool), he looked, then said “couldn’t find one and would have to walk to the hall closet. So I waited to hear and after staring said “so you can check?” He replied “yeah, but it will be a bit”. I was shocked and said I’ll just find something. Was kind of disappointed in the lack of help, so washed the bag from the dinner the night before to hold our things.

It was pretty disappointing. I called the day before to see if I could get early check in because we were going to a memorial. She said they were pretty understaffed and I understood. When we got there, we couldn’t check in early so I changed in the public bathroom. When we returned from the memorial at 4:30, we couldn’t get in our room because they were shortstaffed. We weren’t able to get into our room until 630 when we did the TV didn’t work. We also were unable to get two keys because they didn’t have enough keys to give us to. While the room was clean there just isn’t enough staff to keep this running smoothly.

The hotel itself was fine . No elevator and the rooms were a long way from the front desk . The restaurant staff was awesome ! The views were beautiful, the rooms were nice ! The staff at the front desk made me feel unwanted and belittled me . If we weren’t here on business and it was vacation I would be super sad they talked to me that way when I was paying my money to stay there !! Hateful ladies ! All of them !

Does not have breakfast included, this is one of the main reasons I went with this site. The first room we were given had no shower curtain in it and fire alarm was chirping in the hallway. The area around the hotel by the river has homeless people camping out and there was a lot of broken glass everywhere.

Room was very clean and comfortable. I had shampoo but no bathing soap. I made do, so it wasn't that hard to get by. The big issue I had was that I went to take a walk on the trail towards the water and stumbled onto a homeless tent. I ran back to the room and didn't feel safe enough to get out and stretch my legs. Yikes!!!

We were there to celebrate my oldest child's graduation. It was a nice trip and not far from the Mary Hill Stonehenge and museum. I loved the view from our room! It was so nice to be able to sit on the deck and watch the river and look at the dam! So many types of birds to watch as well! The staff were amazing and friendly! Unfortunately, there is no elevator and my husband has a bad knee, but he managed to hobble his way up the stairs. That was our fault for not requesting a bottom floor room. Would definitely stay there again and I have been telling my family to look into this hotel if they are ever out that way.

Nice location next to the river right off the highway. Plenty of parking with a gas station and convenience store next to the hotel. The staff was very polite and helpful.

Staff was great, friendly, informative. The Portage Grill inside the hotel was excellent. The hostess seated us promptly, the bartender was our waitress (sorry I did not get her name) but she was very attentive and the drinks were excellent. She made a very good Old Fashioned!! The food was excellent, but most of all the service was top notch, only to be topped by the view of the Columbia River/The Dalles Dam! Thank you everyone for a most enjoyable 2-day stay!

Food was good at the restaurant and the staff was especially friendly and helpful. The room was great, but the restaurant is not open for breakfast but they do have a small coffee shop that serves a few different breakfast items. I would stay here again.

Everything was wonderful. The room was clean. The restaurant was so good, reasonably priced and very nice staff. The hotel was very quiet which was really nice. The tv was interesting but once we figured it out it was ok. We would have really liked it if the restaurant had been open for breakfast.

In multiple locations, a full continental breakfast was mentioned as having been included. It was a huge disappointment to learn that it was no longer an option under the new ownership. We only book hotels with breakfast included due to the rising cost of literally everything. Had I known, I would not have chosen this hotel.

The grounds around the hotel down towards the river had great asking paths and historic old houses to explore Long walk however from check in to our room and only stairs, no elevator to second floor. On site cafe was very good for dinner, but no breakfast Small coffee shop by check in desk did have lattes for sale and breakfast sandwiches which both were over priced and not very good

The room was clean. The bed was the most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept on. My body hurt after sleeping on it. The bed also creaked every time you moved slightly. Constantly. Great stay... A nice cool room with plenty of space and a comfy bed. My only comment, and it's a minor thing, was that the room didn't smell as fresh as it could have. I assume it was because maybe it hadn't been stayed in recently or simply because of the proximity to the river.

Expensive place to stay, room was not cleaned, water marks all over the ceiling. Walls are not sound proof and no privacy. Restaurant's staff is rude, I was disappointed. I would never again set foot in that location.

We enjoyed our stay here. It is an old hotel that has been remodeled… But the plumbing is old and we had a hard time getting the shower to work. Also, they got rid of any kind of free breakfast and put in a cafe that sells coffee and muffins. The pool was nice and warm.
