Illinois Beach Hotel

They havent updated the place in years the hot tub and pool is under construction and they dont know when it'll be up and running again, its very outdated and over priced but the staff is very friendly and its a few steps from the beach so thats nice

1960s styling of the hotel is great, the staff are friendly and professional, and the location on the lakeshore by the nature reserve is fantastic. The swimming pool was being refurbished, but other than that it was the perfect stay.

This property has a lot of beautiful beach. If you want to simply relax and do nothing.. this is the place. There's definitely things to do in the area. We like to bring a little grill and use the state park. They do have a pool but as far as 8-15-25 it's not open yet. The restaurant is pretty good too.

Rooms are very outdated, our air conditioner leaked all over balcony and made a hudge puddle couldn’t even go out on the balcony, there were so many cobwebs everywhere and spiders. Like no one has touched it for a very long time. Had to ask for new towels, rooms weren’t cleaned in the 3 days there.. the bar & restaurant had good food, and of course the location & views are Amazing. But for the price, it’s definitely not worth the $$. And the pool was under construction, should have been informed of that.. not worth the $$ Entire hotel, inside, outside needs a huge overhaul..

Every thing seems out of date. The carpets look so dirty every where. No toilet paper roll holder in room looked broken and never fixed. Bathroom smelled moldy the vents look so gross. Doors on exterior seemed to always be unlocked not safe feeling doos always proper open. Pool had been closed for over a year. Such a large beautiful pool not being utilized is such a disservice to the lake county community.

Amazing location right on the beach. We were a little disappointed that the pool was being remodeled but are excited to come back in the future. Property was very clean and the room was nice.

We had a beach staycation at this hotel. The staff was so friendly and for an extremely budget friendly hotel, we had a perfect stay. Hot breakfast was included and there was coffee in the lobby 24 hours. Once they remodel the fitness area and pool, it will attract more year round guests but, i highly recommend this hotel in you like to watch sunrises, hike and spend time on the beach. We will be back next summer!

The pool wasn’t operating. The motel was relatively clean. The staff were very helpful

The swimming pool has been closed for two years and it's nowhere near ready. They need to remove the swimming pool from the listing because the lady said there's nowhere near completed. My plan was to go swimming.

Location is great. You can tell that they are working to improve the property. There does need to be more attention to cleanliness in the rooms

Hotel room was terribly dirty, doorknob was broken, sheets were stained with mystery brown stains, the floor was wet, smelled weird, and the room was very dusty. The woman at the front desk was very kind and respectful when we told her we did not want to stay there, however. I did not get her name, but she was one of the only pluses to come out of our experience.

There were tons of cobwebs with bugs stuck in them everywhere. The grounds were very unkept. There were weeds everywhere. There was mold growing on the wall in my room.

Mold in rooms and ac/heater units, bugs all over balcony, every floor in the entire hotel needs a deep clean. Staff is extremely nice but the hotel is gross which is a real shame bc the location is unbeatable.

We really like Nolan's restaurant the fettuccine alfredo with shrimp was great and the view was amazing. Attention to cleanliness needs to be addressed the housekeepers are missing a lot in the rooms. The bathroom was very nasty. Every surface needed to be wiped down in the room

W e came here with a group for a weekend. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and newly renovated. Location is great, you’re a short walk from your room to the beach. The downside was they had minimal staff and they don’t seem to take out the garbage on the entire premises. The whole weekend, there was piled up garbage downstairs near the patio and there was human feces on the men’s bathroom floor from at least Friday until Sunday that was not cleaned up. This place could be amazing if they put in some extra work and hired 5-10 more employees to maintain things. They are renovating the basement and we accidentally took a wrong turn down there which was slightly creepy. Overall, a great and inexpensive weekend but definitely a work in progress.

The stay overall was good! There was no fridge or microwave so my leftovers had to go to waste. The water took AT LEAST 20 minutes to warm up. The sink water didn’t go straight down and i had to wait until all the water let out to cut the sink back on. The bed was comfortable, but for the price - there definitely should be a fridge and microwave at least.

Such a great location! But unfortunately the restaurant was barely open, our room didnt have a mini fridge or microwave, and our air conditioner leaked so bad the floor was soaked and soaked our bags. It was obvious they knew becauae there was a powder down to either absorb or hide the smell of mold. Too bad because it could be so great there. The view from our room was of a moldy old pool they dont use anymore :/ probably wouldnt have been so bad if me and my daughter werent allergic to mold and had ti use our inhalers the 3 night stay.

Nice hotel. No microwave or fridge. Room was clean. Staff was friendly. No housekeeping services. A great price so I didn’t mind the above. Pool is closed as well.

At check in they had 4 people behind the desk but only one person was checking people in. No mini frig in room, no microwave, I thought I booked a balcony room but didn’t get one, still had a lake view.

During booking it said breakfast was included and also that I would have a lake view only to arrive and be told that breakfast was not included, and we had a roof view with very little lake view at all. Best to probably call the hotel and book directly.

Really great location, however, there were cobwebs in the windows and Pineneedles all over. If they just had someone sweep the windows and the metal roofs where people can see out onto them from the windows, that would really improve the space. Also, they had an incredibly loud concert downstairs that was rather disturbing during the stay.

The room was comfortable and fairly clean. But the air conditioner was really loud and smelled bad. I would’ve killed to have been able to open a window.

Old beds

Unclean rooms- even other guests were having complaints about bloody bedding, and the front desk staff didn’t seem bothered. We had fingernails all over, and food in the microwave from previous guests. Elevators broken all weekend. No food or bar options available until 10:30 according to staff. Great location bc of the beach. Wouldn’t recommend otherwise

I have fond memories of this area from growing up in a nearby town hiking and camping at the state park, and spending time with my grandparents at the resort. A few weeks ago, I went out of my way to patron this small business while in-town during a family wedding. Overall, our stay was adequate (sans the dated "renovations" and slightly smoke smell from years past) but uneventful. However, my issues began after check-out. My reservation was pre-paid ($150 thru Expedia) and a standard hold on my debit card was placed ($116) Regardless of this fact, the hold on the card (for incidentals) was processed ($105) the day after I checked out. Since then, I\'ve called the hotel nearly 15 times this week to get in touch with someone. The front desk reps have been friendly and helpful as best they can, however, they do not have the authorization to refund the measly $100. Whatever, I get it, I\'m also a customer service rep, so I\'m being understanding in their limitations. I was extremely patient during the middle of the week when I called and was told the whole system was down, and the refund would be processed soon (by the mysterious "manager" themself.) When I requested to be cc\'d on an email to the manager from the front desk earlier today, I was told that was not possible. The final issue is that in those 15 times, over half the time my call was throttled to the voicemail line, which is perfectly fine...however, there\'s no place/prompt to leave a voicemail.

My room was clean and quiet and there are wonderful views of the lake and beach. Lots of hiking trails with abundant wildlife. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Check in was supposed to be at 4 o'clock. Our room was not ready until seven that evening. Was excuse after excuse after excuse. Management did comp breakfast. The restaurant and server were dirty. Not a pleasant stay.

This hotel offers a beautiful view of the lake. The only downside was that it seemed like they didn't have enough staff to run the hotel. We had to wait awhile for our room to be ready because there was some sort of mix up with our reservation. That said, they were very apologetic.

Its isolated away from any shopping and the closes area for dining or shopping is about 19 mins away But the scenery is beautiful and relaxing

great location we stayed in a lake view room only downfall the outside windows were dirty with bird poop and dirt run off . would have been nice if there was an outdoor shower area for guest to wash off the sand before entering the hotel

We had a wonderful experience staying at this hotel for our son’s A school graduation. Conveniently located, friendly staff, walk to the beach, quiet and a 20 minute drive to base.

I absolutely loved the view! So peaceful. We were there for my daughters graduation from the navy bootcamp, it was an easy drive to base. A very beautiful area! Staff was over the top! I loved it all. Took walks at the beach and the sound of the waves were amazingly comforting. We all had a blast! Food at the restaurant was really good! I had the ceaser salad my kids had the meatball sub and we were all very full and satisfied. It was delicious!! If i ever come back this way this will definitely be my go to place to stay!!!!! I do not remember the lady at the front desk name but she has a daughter that lives in abilene where i live, anyway she was so awesome! We had great conversations. I would give this place a 10 all day long!!!!

The hotel is undergoing renovations and the pool was closed. It just looked outdated. We ate the the restaurant inside and took forever to get service. The room wasn’t as clean as it could be. I checked out a Day early.

I had to wait an hour after 4 pm to check in because short staff issues. There were stains on the chair pillows and crumbs on the couch. The toilet paper holder was almost falling off the wall, and there were bugs in the room. Other than that, my stay was relaxed, I enjoyed the multiple spaces in the suite, I loved how big the mini fridge was and the big bathroom, the steak dinner from Nolan’s was delicious and the service was great, and I saw the most amazing sunset from my bedroom window. I do really enjoy staying at the hotel and I will be back. I think that small fixes in the rooms, and a little more detail to cleaning would make it a better experience.

The beach and hotel itself are very beautiful! Lovely views. The pool was down for rennovation, which I understand and still booked. However, I inquired about the really great looking restaurant/bar inside the hotel being open the day before and when arrived and checked in and both people said "yes they open at 4". We come down at 4 and asked again, and the receptionist said no the restaurant was not open today because they did not have a cook and were looking to staff one. Both the website and google hours also said the restaurant was open. Everyone was really nice and overall we stil had a good stay, but was just disappointing Since everything was saying the restaurant would be open, it was not, and we were looking forward to that aspect of our stay.

Communication of restaurant staff and dishes were dirty

The hotel sits on the beach and is beautiful and tranquil. What I did not like was the lack of staff involvement with people slamming doors after 9PM and kids shouting in the hall way. There is no concession stand, No grab and Go, No bottled water, Pool is out of service, Staff sat at desk and stayed in their phones, there was no staff interaction accept at check in. The restaurant staff were so very nice and professional. There was No mirror to check my appearance. The lock to a connecting room look cheap. The bed sat on a makeshift platform. The light in bathroom was dim.

Checked in for a king lake view. It was really a king roof and ventilation view. Manager, Lisa did her best and got us a much better room with a view. The restaurant on site was a mass of confusion. 35 minutes and we needed to track down a server. Then no water after 15. Then another 10 until the food and water came. Never saw a waiter again. In the morning the manager tried to make up for dinner, but the restaurant closed before 10 am. I won’t return until they get their staffing and service in order.

Great place to stay. It was unexpected being in a State park. Excellent food in the restaurant.
