The hotel is old, Not accessible at all. Many stairs. The carpet in our room was ancient and stained by use, but the excellent cleaning staff did the best they could. There is no staff at the hotel. The doors have electronic locks which are opened by a smart phone. This requires at least the hotel WiFi password and the ability to receive text messages in the USA, which was a problem for us who arrived without data, and we couldn’t get the WiFi password without getting into the room. The staff will respond to text messages.fortunately, a fellow guest was able to help us out. The bathrooms are shared. Two toilets and one bath/shower per floor. The kitchen is very nice. They no longer provide breakfast but you can store your food in the big refrigerator. The neighbourhood is very lively, crowded with restaurants without outdoor dining. As a result it is very safe. We’ve been coming back to the Hayes Valley Inn for years.it provides a simple and comfortable space in a great part of the city. There are two Bay Wheels bike stations nearby, and convenient connections to the Muni buses. The walk from the Civic Center BART station is pleasant and only takes about 20 minutes, which makes the link to the airport easy.

Basic accomodation with shared shower room and toilets. Sometimes people would shower for 30 min. Kitchen was great and beautiful view from shared dining table. Good central location and value for money. Several stairs so don’t come with a lot of luggage.

We truly enjoyed our stay. The Inn is centrally located with fantastic shops and restaurants around. It’s a nice walk to Japantown and overnight parking is available at the Opera garage.

We liked our stay, cheap and you get what you pay for. The area was lovely, so nice walking around, restaurants (specially burgerplace right downstairs) and bars are good. We loved the area. The hotell was in two different buildings, we where in one and the kitchen was in another - the front door of the building with the kitchen was some days closed and we did not have the code for it, so we could not use kitchen. The kitchen does not have a stove or own, not even a water heater. Only fridge and microwave. Not possible to even make eggs… Did not know how to check out because we had a manuel key for our room not keyless through app, housekeeping only spoke spanish. The room was a ok size, shared bathroom where okey. No cleaning of rooms even if we stayed 8nights. The rooms where really hearthrough, we heared all our neighbours even in the middle of the night, and they showed at 4am. So bring earplugs. Over all, you get what you pay for, nothing more.

A great location for travertine city. Bare-bones, but not mush else is needed in that location. It’s a clean and comfortable room. The shared amenities don’t pose any issues. Only downside is lugging suitcases up the staircase but it’s easily manageable.

This is such an amazing location and a great place to stay within budget! We were super bummed that the kitchen had no stove or even hot pad for cooking (only a microwave). Also, it was quite hot while we were there and the room fan was not adequate to stay cool (even with open windows). So fans in the closets of each room would have been nice. I would definitely recomend this place, though, for anyone wanting to stay and have a smaller room budget!

First, read the fine print. The parking structure they suggest is well over a mile from the hotel. I have two replaced hips. I was really pissed about that. And we saw many parking structures much closer to the hotel. Know that you will not have.a toilet in your room, nor will you have a shower. Read the fine print. Otherwise, it was fine. Clean enough.

Great location. Public parking nearby. Excellent customer service. Answered our questions right away. The bed was very firm, but the room and facilities were clean and comfortable.

Good location. Unloading was a tough experience and you’ll have to walk up stairs to get to your room but the rooms are clean as well as the community bath and water closet. The bed was super comfy. I’d definitely recommend it for the price.

The common areas were shared but we could always find space in the kitchen. The bathrooms and shower were clean and people were respectful of the shared spaces. Everything was cleaned daily and well stocked of common goods.

Large common kitchen area was a great place to sit and relax, common showers were always in a clean and usable state whenever I used them. Property location is smack bang in the middle of Hayes Valley and could not be any better. Unfortunately I did see a few mice running around in my room and saw other evidence of their existence in my room, so I would say the property does have a rodent issue. I promptly removed all food from my room once I noticed and did not experience any issues.

1st stay 10 yrs ago. Still very clean, charming & quaint! Super happy to see the Hayes Valley area has continued to blossom & thrive into a 'hot destination area'!!! Housekeeping took care of our immediate needs and accomodated us with attentive care regarding check in/out as we do not have a cell phone!

DISGUSTING! No soap/toilet paper in main bathroom, with a separate toilet-only bathroom with no sink. Stained sheets. Dirty shower caddy for your use. Musty room smell. Neighbors (live-in housekeeping staff?) yelling at each other through paper-thin walls to keep it down. No on-site front desk, and remote support takes an hour to reply through text. You’ll get locked out of your room if your phone runs out of battery. Maybe this place was different before COVID, but now it basically feels like a place for the transitory homeless. I left behind the $2 hand soap I had to buy from Safeway, so maybe someone can use that until it runs out.

I really wanted to like this place. I hate writing poor reviews but here we go When i checked in i found 2 dead roaches in the ground and my floors were filthy. I did tell management and they cleaned me room again. My room was basically above a bar with loud music all night and homeless who would confront you when you entered or exited the hotel. My room next to me had 2 drugged out guys who monopolize the public bathroom and showers Sorry Hayes, but my stay was aweful

😁 very well located (shops and restaurant all around), easy to get in, thanks to the code you can check in anytime you want, cleaning/tidying the room is well done each day. 😔 the carpet on the floor doesn't allow a good hygiene (stains everywhere...) and the door lock of the room works eraticaly... sometimes it will work and some times it won't... but i had the issue more with room 301 than 309 so i guess it is a device issue (the door's lock)

I thought the Hayes Valley Inn was a great budget hotel. The room wasn't fancy and there was a stain on the carpet but it was comfortable. I mention the stain only so other people will have their expectations set. The room was clean, but worn in that type of way. The shared bathroom and shower was very clean. There is no front desk but if you call their number the staff is very responsive and helped me out when I had not received my unlock key and also when I needed to store my luggage after check out. It is centrally located but still set back from Van Ness and Market so not noisy at night. Would definitely stay again if I come back to SF.

Pleasantly surprised. Next time I will stay for a month! I like communal living, so the shared facilities felt good to me. It’s been a long time since I’ve stayed in a guest house, and the noise took some getting used to, but it’s all part of the experience. If you’re afraid of the unhoused population, I don’t know what to tell you. Makes me happy as a bug in a rug to stay in a lovely old well-loved (and secure!) guesthouse. Will stay again.

Safe area to stay at! 5 min walk to public transportation from where you easily can get to any part of the city. Room and shared restrooms were clean. Had a room in the third floor so had to go up the stairs each time, no elevator. Windows in the room can not be opened, room had an AC output but air condition was still very stuffy.

Was not able to sleep much due to the poor sound isolation (street sounds), and there was a humming diesel generator working the whole night, felt like it was shaking the whole building

Very small rooms, but you pay for what you get. Amazing area in Hayes Valley with many things within walking distance. We were two women travelers and felt safe the entire 4 night stay here!

Small room and shared bathroom, but the location is great, and the price is reasonable for what you get. Definitely way better than staying in the Tenderloin, and not much more expensive.

Great location. Nice old building with vintage vibe. Cute room, although some of the furniture needs repair or deep cleaning. The mattress was lumpy but good enough. Check in and key app were easy and worked well. Tiny bathrooms but serviceable. Have to wait a long time for hot water. Lots of street noise but I slept fine with the earplugs I brought. Overall I really liked the property and feel it was a good value for the cost.

Good location. Unloading was a tough experience and you’ll have to walk up stairs to get to your room but the rooms are clean as well as the community bath and water closet. The bed was super comfy. I’d definitely recommend it for the price.

I called the property around 12:45pm on 9/5 regarding a lost item. They never replied. I texted around 9:30pm and am still awaiting a response. The day before, I contacted the number provided to ask questions; no reply. Very unprofessional.

Staying here was a bit unconventional as tar as rooms to stay in. Keys are all through your smart phone. Check in via email exchange. But the stay itself was great. Food is within walking distance. Everything's very close by. Overall, staying here was great. Would highly recommend if on a solo trip.

1st stay 10 yrs ago. Still very clean, charming & quaint! Super happy to see the Hayes Valley area has continued to blossom & thrive into a 'hot destination area'!!! Housekeeping took care of our immediate needs and accomodated us with attentive care regarding check in/out as we do not have a cell phone!

DISGUSTING! No soap/toilet paper in main bathroom, with a separate toilet-only bathroom with no sink. Stained sheets. Dirty shower caddy for your use. Musty room smell. Neighbors (live-in housekeeping staff?) yelling at each other through paper-thin walls to keep it down. No on-site front desk, and remote support takes an hour to reply through text. You’ll get locked out of your room if your phone runs out of battery. Maybe this place was different before COVID, but now it basically feels like a place for the transitory homeless. I left behind the $2 hand soap I had to buy from Safeway, so maybe someone can use that until it runs out.

I thought the Hayes Valley Inn was a great budget hotel. The room wasn't fancy and there was a stain on the carpet but it was comfortable. I mention the stain only so other people will have their expectations set. The room was clean, but worn in that type of way. The shared bathroom and shower was very clean. There is no front desk but if you call their number the staff is very responsive and helped me out when I had not received my unlock key and also when I needed to store my luggage after check out. It is centrally located but still set back from Van Ness and Market so not noisy at night. Would definitely stay again if I come back to SF.

I was pleasantly surprise with this hotel, I was a bit nervous to stay in a hotel with shared bathroom but I also didnt want to spend 400 a night in San Fran, and this hotel was with in my budget. The hotel was super clean, room, bathroom and shower were great, I never ran into any issues with to many people wanting to use them when I needed them. The location is great, walkable and lots of restaurants, I felt very safe in this area. Also was close to the subway for getting around and to/from the airport. For a budget hotel I would recommend 10 out of 10, I did find it noisy one night from the bar below but luckily I had brought earplugs, also the shared kitchen was great if you decide to make food or get take out

We truly enjoyed our stay. The Inn is centrally located with fantastic shops and restaurants around. It’s a nice walk to Japantown and overnight parking is available at the Opera garage.

Great location. Nice old building with vintage vibe. Cute room, although some of the furniture needs repair or deep cleaning. The mattress was lumpy but good enough. Check in and key app were easy and worked well. Tiny bathrooms but serviceable. Have to wait a long time for hot water. Lots of street noise but I slept fine with the earplugs I brought. Overall I really liked the property and feel it was a good value for the cost.

Van Ness Muni (subway) stop was an easy 3 - 4 block walk away. Area around Van Ness was sketchy with homeless... I felt OK but I'm a 6ft male. Area right around property seemed like a nice, inter-city neighborhood. Didn't see any A/C, so might be hot in summer. I'd book here again!

A great location for travertine city. Bare-bones, but not mush else is needed in that location. It’s a clean and comfortable room. The shared amenities don’t pose any issues. Only downside is lugging suitcases up the staircase but it’s easily manageable.

I really wanted to like this place. I hate writing poor reviews but here we go When i checked in i found 2 dead roaches in the ground and my floors were filthy. I did tell management and they cleaned me room again. My room was basically above a bar with loud music all night and homeless who would confront you when you entered or exited the hotel. My room next to me had 2 drugged out guys who monopolize the public bathroom and showers Sorry Hayes, but my stay was aweful

Very nice stay in the heart of Hayes Valley! Loved the location, walkable with plenty of transport & dining options. We stayed in annex building hence the room was quiet but did not have a sink, neither was as spacious as advertised online. Shared kitchen was equipped but a few extra items like clean sponge, dishwashing liquid and a dish cloth would make the stay even more comfortable and homey. 5* for cleanliness & a pleasant stay overall.

The common areas were shared but we could always find space in the kitchen. The bathrooms and shower were clean and people were respectful of the shared spaces. Everything was cleaned daily and well stocked of common goods.

The hotel is old, Not accessible at all. Many stairs. The carpet in our room was ancient and stained by use, but the excellent cleaning staff did the best they could. There is no staff at the hotel. The doors have electronic locks which are opened by a smart phone. This requires at least the hotel WiFi password and the ability to receive text messages in the USA, which was a problem for us who arrived without data, and we couldn’t get the WiFi password without getting into the room. The staff will respond to text messages.fortunately, a fellow guest was able to help us out. The bathrooms are shared. Two toilets and one bath/shower per floor. The kitchen is very nice. They no longer provide breakfast but you can store your food in the big refrigerator. The neighbourhood is very lively, crowded with restaurants without outdoor dining. As a result it is very safe. We’ve been coming back to the Hayes Valley Inn for years.it provides a simple and comfortable space in a great part of the city. There are two Bay Wheels bike stations nearby, and convenient connections to the Muni buses. The walk from the Civic Center BART station is pleasant and only takes about 20 minutes, which makes the link to the airport easy.

Basic accomodation with shared shower room and toilets. Sometimes people would shower for 30 min. Kitchen was great and beautiful view from shared dining table. Good central location and value for money. Several stairs so don’t come with a lot of luggage.

I promptly removed all food from my room once I noticed and did not experience any issues.

We liked our stay, cheap and you get what you pay for. The area was lovely, so nice walking around, restaurants (specially burgerplace right downstairs) and bars are good. We loved the area. The hotell was in two different buildings, we where in one and the kitchen was in another - the front door of the building with the kitchen was some days closed and we did not have the code for it, so we could not use kitchen. The kitchen does not have a stove or own, not even a water heater. Only fridge and microwave. Not possible to even make eggs… Did not know how to check out because we had a manuel key for our room not keyless through app, housekeeping only spoke spanish. The room was a ok size, shared bathroom where okey. No cleaning of rooms even if we stayed 8nights. The rooms where really hearthrough, we heared all our neighbours even in the middle of the night, and they showed at 4am. So bring earplugs. Over all, you get what you pay for, nothing more.

This is such an amazing location and a great place to stay within budget! We were super bummed that the kitchen had no stove or even hot pad for cooking (only a microwave). Also, it was quite hot while we were there and the room fan was not adequate to stay cool (even with open windows). So fans in the closets of each room would have been nice. I would definitely recomend this place, though, for anyone wanting to stay and have a smaller room budget!

There should be a warning for senior citizens and disabled people! This property, though clean, required climbing 2-3 flights of stairs with our luggage. The keys were very difficult to use and the bathrooms were separate and shared. I'm sure it's a quaint experience for young people, but totally unsuitable for older patrons.

I have always liked the look of this hotel in an extremely vibrant area of San Francisco. (If you don't like a lot of happy and excited screaming and shouting from the street, you should perhaps give this place a miss.) It is one of those self-service hotels where you are sent the code to the front door and then have to download and use an app to open the bedroom door. Of course, we misremembered the front door code but were let in by a fellow guest. Then there was the issue that only one of us decided to spend the night there, and the one who was leaving was the one with the app on their phone. The bathroom was across the hallway from my room, and at two in the morning I needed a pee, accidentally locking the bedroom door behind me. My cell phone was back in the room, so I ended up sleeping in the breakfast room, naked except for a skimpy towell, until at 6am a fellow guest found me and contacted the hotel for help. So, when everything works, it is a cute, funky, clean hotel in a great area. But when you goof up, there is no safety net and you end up alone and naked in a public space. Oh well, that's very San Francisco.
