The Embassy Hotel

When we arrived, the most stressful part was trying to figure out where to park. The hotel offers parking for $30/day but unless you know where to go its a little confusing because you have to drive around the block, pull up to gate and wait for them to buzz you in. The hotel was really cool although a bit dated. At over 100 yrs old it was neat to see the craftmanship that went into building it. The staff was very friendly and we enjoyed our stay. For the price it was a great bargain! My only complaint was I had to shove a washcloth in drain to take a bath. Its located in the heart of SF so be prepared to see things you may not be used to. We never felt unsafe and enjoyed walking around the city.

Inconvenient parking, and it costs $30 a day

This is an old hotel, so the rooms are very old, but doable. Expect the floor to creek, the carpet to look old, the shower having old scraped floor. BUT, it is still doable. The price is too high for what it is though! Location is somewhat good. A block or two north, you'll see a fre homeless, but it is a peaceful area. Parking costs $30 a night. But you can go in n out several times.

1. On the advertisement it says refrigerator is available, but upon request, keep making excuses like other tenants have it or ask what room you're in as if they are going to deliver it but never. 2. Parking in the rear not easy to find and cost $30. 3. No maid service. When extra linen towels needed you have to go down to front desk at times none available. 4. Carpet dirty, and musty 5. Toilet pluged up, 2 days pass then I requested for plunger to unplg it myself. None available. Had to request to move to another room which makes it seem like they are doing you a favor. Protested to move, thats when they agreed. 5. Was hot when arrived, no AC told to just open windows, when opened no screen. 6. Sink water handles hard to turn. 7. Elevator jerky and slow to move between floors. 8. Advertise kitchen with microwave available but no kitchen, no microwave or coffee maker, had to buy own cofee maker

Parking was conveniently located in back of the building for only $30. Hotel was very cozy!

Had a mount on shower wall for body gel & shampoo but neither were present. Had an empty toilet paper hangar too. No free breakfast. Walls thin.

Rooms are outdated, stairs steep, elevator works but is small. Parking lot is behind hotel but is pay to park lot for the public and guests. Neighborhood is very dirty and very questionable after dark. Front lobby was very nice they should improve th rest of the hotel as well

I drove around for 20 min trying to find where i could park or even pull over. Then i waited another 15 min waiting for the elevator

Hotel starting to show it’s age, but clean and central location. Friendly and helpful staff. Parking is expensive, but it feels safe leaving your car there, because there is a person there.

Parking was $30 overnight, my toilet was falling apart, no back up towels, thin walls, and very loud guests. Pros was safe area, had security for parking, locked front doors, easy access, close to a lot of things

The man at the counter Bill was great but everything else was terrible and not somewhere i would recommend. The beds were heavily stained, the blankets were cleary not washed because they had multiple spots with stuff still stuck to them. When getting our stuff together to leave we looked to make sure our stuff was not hidden and found an alcoholic drink container under the bed. When we requested new blankets, Bill himself had to go get them because staff didnt bring them up to us like we were told. The room itself was a non smoking room but smelled like smoke. The bathroom was not clean and had hairs stuck to the curtain/ wall of the shower as well as a mildew smell. Not in the cleanest area either.

Very basic, don’t expect much. The paint on the walls is peeling, we could smell the rug, there was a bit of mold in the bathroom and gnats coming out of the shower’s drain. The bed was old and after a couple of days gave us a back pain. Very noisy outside and area is not safe to be out alone at night.

This hotel was dirty! First thing I saw at front reception was a dirty syringe on the counter!! When I got inside the room it was dreadful. Paint cracking off the walls. Dirty carpet and bathroom. Old mattress. I Tried to switch rooms but they denied me! Memorial weekend so everything around area was booked so I decided to tough it out. Before going to sleep I noticed a hole in box spring. I was terrified to sleep. I always check for bed bugs but didn’t see an actual bug. BUT when I woke up in the morning I had BITES all across my stomach and arms. Do not stay here!!

I usually don't need much other than a place to sleep and a clean bathroom when we visit SF, since we're out and about. However, the two rooms we booked - one was for my husband and I, the other for our parents - were both poorly maintained. I don't know if it's the sheets, the mattress, or the pillows, but the beds had a strong odor of either feet or cup ramen seasoning. On top of that, we both had to have our keys reactivated when we returned since they didn't work after we left to explored the city. Both rooms also didn't have a working TV. My parents were persistent and eventually had someone come fix it past midnight, we weren't that interested. My parents found trash underneath their bed when checking out and making sure nothing got left behind, meaning poor cleaning/maintenance. And on top of that, the poor attitude from the front service staff. Unless you want the same conditions and walls so thin you hear everyone stomping or yelling from their rooms, I would honestly recommend a different place or like a motel 6. I've stayed at some pretty run down places to accommodate a budget, but this is one I would definitely not come back to unless they fix their smelly bed issue and the water in the shower which goes from warm to scalding randomly.

Excellent and clean

The hotel was old, my mattress had a very large burn hole in it, the bathroom was dirty, and a lot of the fixtures and doors didn't close right. We didn't feel terribly safe but we are from Alaska and can hold our own. You get what your pay for and the location was nice for walking and right in the heart of the city. The price matched what we stayed in I guess.

Room was clean, staff where friendly. Décor is dated but otherwise all ok.

I didn't feel very safe in the neighborhood and the hotel wasn't very clean. It had a spooky vibe. The curtain was broken, the room was very smelly, the microwave was crusty, forget about extra blankets in this place. I thought they coud do better, it wasn't that cheap!

It a was a great hotel, however with it being an old building, there was no A/C or full room ventilation, only the open windows to get air in the room.

A bit disappointed really. Hotel is tired. Comfy bed and the room and bathroom was clean. Clean towels everyday. Very noisy location sirens all the time and noisy pipes. The hotel walls are thin so could hear everything!

Comfortable bed, nice view. Large room with king bed and the largest closet I’ve seen.

For the price, this place is 5 stars. However you need to bring the mindset that you are in the Tenderloin. Once inside the hotel, it is safe and welcoming. Staff were excellent. You are also near the 49 bus and bart station. Food options were average nearby. They do have a microwave on the mezzanine level. Contrary to the hotel listing, they do provide bed sheets. Beds were great and room condition for the price was great. WiFi is fast, about 100Mbps down and 75 up. I was able to work from this hotel with no issues.

The desk clerk was very friendly and quick to check us in. The lobby was clean and the whole hotel seemed to be very clean. Unfortunately, despite the signs that say “smoke free” establishment, our bathroom reeked of cigarette smoke to the point it was making me nauseous and we had to keep the window open. The bed was comfortable enough, but the walls were so thin we could hear so much noise throughout the hotel.

Bed smelled like urine. Toilet wont flush and no a/c. Have to open the windows to sleep and the sound outside make me awake all night.

Great hotel. Superfriendly staff. great deal. expect little from the water pressure, but the classy hotel somehow makes up for it.

The accommodation was very old. They didn't clean the room, nor did they change the bed linens or towels once. They also charged me $70 in error. When I contacted the hotel, they informed me that it was incorrect and that they would refund the amount. They don't respond to messages through the hoteis.com app.

The worst experience of my life. I had a paid room for 6 days. A layover went bad because of spirit airlines couldn’t get a pilot. I called the hotel every 8 hours explaining I was coming however late. After the first night I couldn’t check in they labeled me as a no show took my money and booked my room. The hotel manager apologized about the mistake, however it took a week to get only half my money back. Leaving me a 62 year old man stranded in San Fransico with little money and no where to go. Sham on them !!!

Our stay at the hotel was fantastic, thanks in large part to the outstanding front desk team. A special shoutout to Sam, the manager, who went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. His attention to details and decision-making skills truly elevated our experience. We felt welcomed and well taken care of from the moment we arrived. Highly recommend staying here—great service makes all the difference!

First they were three people in the room and gave us only one towel and we ask for more and gave us three towels and we requested hand towels and wash towels and the guy at the front desk said he would be back to give us them and never came back, then the first night we were woke up by a couple having a fight and he was treating to kill whoever he was with and I called the front desk to let them know and no one came to stop them..

We arrived late in the night, room was dirty planned on staying 2 nights, next morning, went to talk to management about our situation, insread we were meet with an arrogant, disrespectful, self absorbed manager, who doesn't care about employees, or his guest, he was rude argumentative, disrespectful to my wife, he should be replaced, even fired i would not have him representing my company

Clean, friendly and comfortable. Right in the heart of San Francisco. Night manager Bill is an ultimate professional. It is people like him who are the biggest asset to the hospitality industry.

Horrible experience, when we arrived there were no clean towels in our room, no hot water. We left early. Morning to go see the city and when we arrived back to our room in the evening the front desk clerk had allowed a complete stranger into our room. The stranger had been drinking and gone through our stuff. The clerk didn't kick the stranger out, just gave us another room. Parking was a additional $60 was a very scary experience. I would like to request a refund cause we felt very unsafe

Great staff and hotel, just research the area a little before you go exploring, towards the civic centre is fine but the other way is definitely confronting. I really liked the staff here.

In the WORST part of San Fransisco!! Homeless encampments for blocks around the hotel. Open drug consumption and dealing. Intermittent sirens all night, gun shots one night, lots of yelling and street noise. The hotel is ok. Old and wood framed so you here every movement of everyone on the floor. Room was clean.

The location was great

If you’re looking for a cheap place to stay in San Francisco, the Embassy Hotel at 610 Polk Street certainly fits that category, but know exactly what you’re getting. The building is old, and it shows—hallways and rooms carry a musty smell, and the photos online don’t really match the reality. My room had a cracked toilet with water on the bathroom floor, and the overall condition felt neglected. There’s no air conditioning in any of the rooms, only heaters, which makes it uncomfortable during warm days. No microwave was available in the room, either. The staff were polite and willing to help when asked, but they didn’t seem especially enthusiastic, more like they were just going through the motions. To be fair, they did respond quickly to basic requests, but it wasn’t enough to offset the environment. The neighborhood is one of the biggest drawbacks. This part of Polk is rough, with large homeless encampments and a generally unsafe feeling, especially after dark. It’s not the type of area you’d want to walk around in late at night. Overall, this place is very much “you get what you pay for.” The nightly rate feels overpriced for what’s actually provided—I’d say it’s closer in value to a $25 per night motel. Unless your top priority is the lowest possible cost and you don’t care about comfort or surroundings, I’d suggest looking elsewhere in San Francisco.

I would definitely stay here again. It’s located on a busy street. It’s a short walk from the Embarcadero BART station if you’re planning to walk or be out on the street be prepared to encounter the homeless.

This hotel is a block away from city hall, civic center plaza and other gorgeous buildings. We were within walking distance to bus stops, Bart stations and other local transit. We did not want to be in heart of tourist area and this was perfect. We loved that we could walk to local restaurants, cafes & bakeries, because of the proximity to government buildings, many places close by 8pm. As long as you are aware of that, its a good place to stay. I think people forget that San Fran is an old city with old buildings (thats the charm). I like that those buildings are repurposed, (hotels, shops, restaurants) and are not completely gutted to make them look brand new (if you want something new, gray and boring, stay somewhere else). I like that the hotel bathroom had the old tiles, small elevator and people were friendly and helpful.This hotel is cute, roomy and simple, we slept & kept our stuff there. There is no A/C, but you dont need it (visited in August from AZ) we kept the window open and at 3am it was really cold.

It's a good location. Clean and very easy to access the city center and everything. The street next to it is a bit dangerous, but the street the hotel is on is fine. Very good for the affordable prices!

The surrounding neighborhood was much worse than we expected, even knowing that we were going to be in The Tenderloin. The “walk” to Golden Gate Park, was not walkable.

Hotel is in a horrible location that is riddled with homeless and drug users. As I was walking I could literally see the drugs being used right on the street, not to mention the urine and feces on the pavement. I was in town for one night only or I would have definitely left the hotel and or the area. According to a gentleman outside measuring the entire building is in Escrow and will be sold soon. DO NOT STAY IN THIS AREA if you expect safe/ clean.
