The Barrington Hotel

Great location for transport and from motorway. Good parking and great price. Stayed here twice now and will book again when visiting family in London. Decent price too!

No kettle in room (despite listing saying there was). Arrived at 7.45pm but couldn’t get any food as kitchen had closed (expected a gastro pub to serve until 8.30 on a Saturday!). Went down to the bar to have a cup of tea before bed but couldn’t get one there (despite sign outside saying pop in for tea or coffee). Very noisy, every door banged. Booked for 2 adults but only got 1 hand towel and 1 bath towel in room. Sign outside says it’s a B&B but no breakfast available - can’t even get a cup of tea or coffee in the morning - staff looked at us like we’ve got 3 heads when we asked. Stinks of weed everywhere, even in our room as chap was smoking it outside for most of the night.

This location was quite expensive for the poor condition it was in. The beds were made, but the floor wasn't clean, there was no kettle and no liner in the bin. The bathroom stunk so badly and there were open holes around the pipes. We didn't try the shower because it was so difficult to even be in the bathroom with how badly it smelled. While we were there, another resident showering set off the fire alarm at 6:30am and after spending 30 minutes contacting the phone numbers provided by the hotel and receiving no response, we had to call the police and the fire brigade to turn it off. The fire brigade was annoyed that the zone maps and other things were not up to code. There is no lift and a lot of thin stairwells. The only things we liked about it was that there was a small car park behind the building and that the tube was a 15 minute walk up the road. Wouldn't recommend and wouldn't stay here again, especially not at this price.

Nice but very snug room and friendly staff. Few things which unfortunately take away from this hotel. Room had a green light permanently on which made it harder to sleep. Some of the doors stick and make access more difficult. Car park is very narrow and can be difficult to get out of. Main positives Staff were lovely and friendly and the restaurant food was tasty

In this area , quiet but convenient and that price....Everything is good already, can't expect much.Just one thing , if you have a big and heavy luggage, you better consider more about the stairs....light luggage is no problem at all.

At check-in, given keys but no other info or asked any questions. Shown to entrance door of accommodations and left to find room by myself after brief description of where room could be found. Although room has been refurbished, paint was on floor and furniture. 2 seater settee dirty with cup rings and other stains. No kettle provided, so unable to make a hot drink, which for a very early riser was not good. Had to go to local garage for coffee and food. No breakfast served. Ingress of cigarette smoke from patio smoking area not nice. Only redeeming feature was the bed which was very comfortable.

Secondly, this is a BUDGET hotel, so don’t imagine that it’s going to be impressive. Having said that, the beds were clean and comfortable, the room was warm, the bathrooms were clean, and to stay for one night was totally fine. I would definitely stay the night here again if I needed a cheap stay. Things to note: Because this is over a pub, there will be music playing until late. The rooms are not soundproof, so you can hear what’s going on in the hallways clearly and also above you. The doors slam a lot as people go in and out too. The blinds aren’t blackout, so light does come through. There is no kettle in the room, no hair dryer, things like this. Just towels, hand soap and shower gel. There was a bright green light on the ceiling for a smoke detector or something. Not great while sleeping.

Dirty towels. Dirty bedsheets. Dusty furniture. Other than that good location if you are looking to stay in Barnet. The staff is the bartenders in the bar down. Welcoming. Helpful.

The room has been refurbished and looked okay, however there were no tea or coffee making facilities in the room and when I asked about a kettle I was told there was a kitchen near to our room with a fridge and microwave, I checked and it was marked staff only and didn’t have a kettle any way. The room was very noisy all night with music and noise from the pub and people coming and going to the small hours. There was a cigarette disposal unit right in front of our window where people gather to smoke and extinguish cigarettes. One of the single beds prevented closure of the bathroom door. No hot water available when I wanted to take a shower or to the sink. We left to find somewhere to get a coffee and breakfast and then went back to the pub, We went to go inside to report the problems and a young girl stood out front telling us they didn’t open until 11am,we said that we were going to check out as it was very noisy and there were no facilities or hot water, her answer was Again…and then no problem, to which I replied it is a problem but she wasn’t interested and carried on texting on her phone. To call the place a Hotel is a complete stretch of the imagination as hotels belong to the hospitality industry and we had none, it is not even a B&B. Just rented rooms. The owners need to look at it with fresh eyes to see what is needed when guests stay! Refurbishing rooms alone does not make it a Hotel/ place to stay. The only good point was a free drink on arrival,

The wifi was very poor and made watching anything on the TV a hassle. The door leading up to the rooms got stuck and staff had to call someone to come down and open it from the inside, but they were very apologetic . The cleaning staff were pushy with us leaving the room at 11 despite the checkout time being posted as 12 on a card on the wall. Our room was right over the entrance and the noise from traffic and pub patrons was less than ideal late into the night, but that can't be helped I suppose. We were provided a free drink at the bar, and the staff were very friendly. The bed was very comfy Overall: a great Pub, but a mediocre hotel

Was shown to an inferior room to the one i had booked and then after insisting on a better one, was given an alternative that was an improvement but not as clean as would be expected and there were some old blood stains on the towels.

It's in a good location, there is a small amount of free parking and for London it's fairly cheap. Not very clean, very very dusty on top of wardrobe, no hot water on first night, in shower. Bit intimidating having a bouncer looking me over and not initially wanting to let me in with my suitcase despite saying I was checking in

Rooms were fine, clean and tidy. Bed linen and towels smelt clean but covered in stains so a bit gross.

We have a 7 week old so specifically booked the "Superior Double Room, Ensuite" as on info says "1 King Bed, 1 Double Sofa Bed and 1 Single Sofa Bed". Excellent enough space to admin baby, for me to bail to the sofa bed if wife and baby needed the king to settle. On arrival were shown Room 7, a fairly compact room, insufficient space for us, not what I believed I had booked. I mentioned this to the check in lady, she had twins available, but not the one with King and two sofa beds I had booked. Fortunately another guest was asked if would swop his king with sofa bed room (13) with us, and kindly he agreed. Other than that we would have had to bail to relatives an hour away. Now on the receipt the "1 King Bed, 1 Double Sofa Bed and 1 Single Sofa Bed" element is referenced as a request, and notes that requests may not be met. This is not at all clear from the hotels.com process, and should be clarified. Aside from this issue, the room was clean, the shower was hot, bed very comfortable. At 25DegC overnight also very hot, provision of fans would be a nice touch, none were available. Entry could be difficult, as 4 doors from street to bed, with narrowish/steepish stairs. Bar staff were amazing, esp the brunette with tattoed wrists, she offered a cushion to assist the holding of baby. No noise issue from Room 13 but some smoke smells even at 7am from below. Street Parking was easy. Would probably stay again, if I could be certain of what I was booking, which atm I wouldnt be.

Rooms were clean and sufficient for what I needed (Bed, shower, toilet etc). But I was unable to be kept dark at night due to ineffient blinds and a green LED in the center of the ceiling that was constantly on. Was fairly noisy outside but wasn't too surprised by this. And the large firm pillows were unusable/unsuitable for me.

The wifi was pretty bad, and i think the power went out during the night because of the storm, but the staff were amazing, the room was clean and comfortable and as a solo traveller i felt super safe 👌

Other than steep stairs leading up to the rooms I have little to no complaints. Bed was ok, it was just what I needed to get some sleep as a solo traveler. Even with it being a bar below it wasn’t noisy from inside the room. Would definitely stay again.

Photos online are misleading the room was tiny as soon as we open the door it hit the bedside cabinet Photo shown on our booking was a larger room with a sofa in what we got was a tiny room with one old pub chair and a small table in front of the wardrobe very cramped towels were dirty

This is a no-frills hotel with none of the usual things you’d normally expect like tea making facilities etc, but having said that I checked in early with no problems, the young barmaid who assisted was friendly and helpful, the room was quite a good size and the bed was comfy and the sheets clean, and the shower was as good as anywhere with a good flow and hot water. Free parking too. Our room was on the top floor and was very quiet, but since the hotel is above a lively pub i guess other rooms may not be. Short walk for transport to central London

I booked the room Saturday evening, three hours before I arrived. The bar was busy and it took a little while to get my keys and find my room, but overall I can't fault the cleanliness and comfort of the place and the friendliness of the staff.

Overall very poor. The music from the bar was far too loud until very late. Staff were poor - one staff member who checked us in was helpful but all other staff were unhelpful and quite rude. Room was very hot with no A/C. Power all went off in the night with the fire panel beeping consistently since early hours and nothing was done and no apologies/explanations from staff. This resulted in no hot water to shower in the morning and no lights. Our bathroom window was also situated directly above the smoking area which was less than ideal. All doors to get into the property were extremely difficult to use and we had to rely on other guests to help us figure out how to operate them rather than staff.

Very enjoyable stay kind and helpful staff.

Whilst the room was clean and nice our overall stay was very disappointing. We had very little interaction with check in staff, was handed the key and the lady walked away without any further communication. Had to access 3 different doors to get to the room and all locks were difficult to navigate. Our room was very public at the front entrance so very noisy when other guests were coming/going. The blind did not work so we flelt very exposed as people could see into our room when the lights were on. When checking out in the morning there were no staff available and the pub attached was not yet open so there was nowhere to safely leave the keys. We had to post them through the pub door letterbox as had no other option and no alternative was explained to us upon check in.

I came early as the app said check-in was at 0900am, but apparently, the check-in was not until 2pm. I appreciate the ladies who were in-charge as they catered me despite being early. To Hotels.com, kindly change the check-in time so that people will not be confused. Overall, the facility was good.

It was a nice place whith cinema next to it and lots of shops tesco round the corner

The Barrington is situated in High Barnet about 10 min stroll from the tube station - northern line giving great access to London. The area surrounding was nice with lots of places to eat. The hotel was clean. The bathroom was not great, it had no privacy glass and with quite a low window any plans to have a shower or use the toilet had to be done in full view of oncoming traffic. We were only given 2 towels (1 bath towel 1hand towel) with 2 of us using the room for 4 days reusing the same towel during a heat wave was grim. We left early each day before the pub had opened so I left a note for a second towel; unfortunately nobody came to clean the room in those 4 days. A blind needs fitting in the toilet of room 8 and more than 2 towels needs providing for a 2 person room. Other than that a pleasant enough stay.

My room was large, clean with a comfortable bed. As expected, it's a b&b service attached to a large busy pub in a busy area. There was a lot of noise from the pub. I assumed there would be. It stopped around 11pm. Calling the pub a gastro pub is pushing it otherwise all good. Nice staff. There are negative reviews floating around that I consider unfair. There are no other options nearby. If you have sensible expectations this place is decent.

Where to start..... Cold room, unhelpful staff, uncomfortable bed, not kettle in the room, well worn holy hotels, rude staff, closing the kitchen at 7.45, Thin walls where you can hear everything from down the corridor. And a pungent smell from the locals standing outside the pub door.. definitely not welcoming.

Little gem. Great find. Nothing too flashy, great pub under hotel. Good setup. Will be going again.
